Update to my review! Well I have since left Honolulu, my care from Dr. Sultan did not end... She knew how hard it would be for me to find someone on the other side on the mainland, especially with how backed up everyone is with appointments. To my surprise, I learned that she is licensed in multiple states and Washington, where I moved, was one of them! She was so kind and met with me virtually until I could find someone to help maintain my medication and support me on my weight loss journey. Their entire office is so thorough and wonderful... Brittany comes to mind especially, as she is usually want to call me and is always so kind and informative as well. I have since moved onto a new care provider here in Washington, because there's a lot of things you just can't do virtually, however, I will always be grateful for the care of Dr Sultan and her staff during my time on the island and will continue to heartily recommend her. read more

Not a fan of this practice. The management style is horrible. You wait forever when u have an appointment aka almost an hour sometimes. I got fined $200 for missing an appointment i was going to be 5mins late too and then was told next available appointment was in a year. I received a bill a WHOLE YEAR later for serves and then they told me it was over due even tho they sent it a year later. I ended up going to another doctor and am very happy with the switch they did not push birth control on me and helped me with my problems and actually listened. Would not 7 this practice to anyone. read more

If I could give her minus stars I would! I definitely wouldn't recommend aya to anyone I cared about ( or my worst enemy) It should be a huge red flag how many different facilities shes worked at over the years. It honestly surprised me to see how many good reviews shes gotten. I know I'm not the only one who doesn't care too much for her. I had a hysterectomy from dr aya sultan in 2013 and even though it was something I pushed for due to having severe endometriosis for the last 30+ years, I wish I never let her do it...even the nurses and her assistant at Olympic medical center short stay said they didn't care for her or the way she treated them. Dr sultan seemed really nice at first but her attitude changed and she became defensive, accusatory and rude. I even had to have a close family member start coming with me to my appointments because of the way she treated me ( I was surprised how rude she was to them as well). If you just need an exam I guess I would say shes ok but I would not let her do anything else. She didn't document the findings during my hysterectomy properly so when I tried to tell my urologist and gi dr about her finding mass amounts of scar tissue from my bladder to my bowels, they have no charting from her re it.. so thanks to her, made me go through more unnecessary Tests at my drs .i also haven't been able to go to the bathroom properly since then. Most of us didn't even get a heads up she was leaving to move to Hawaii, she was gone by my next follow up! read more

I was consulting Dr Aya Sultan . she ShowEd up very late to appointments like an hour late . I was literally waiting for an hour to discuss my lab results In appointment. I spoke about another concerns and she told me that you can discuss only one concern at an appointment. To discuss on lab results will take max of 15 minutes I booked a virtual appointment with her got only after a month. Appointment time was at 3 :30 pm and she came on 4: 26 pm . Since I need to pick up my children at 4:30 she told me to reschedule the appointment. I learned my lesson. sharing it for others. Never book appointment with her if you are a person whose health issues are to be addressed on time and your time is valuable. read more

Edie and I found a great OBGYN!!! Dr. Sultan has the most updated equipment and new comfortable chairs for your annual exam. The office is clean and new. When you walk in, you are greeted and directed to bottles of what and the best coffee. If you need to use the bathroom, they do not have the tissue toilet covers, they have a button you press and the clean plastic cover rotates for you to use! It's the best bathroom experience. Also, in the bathroom, they have a little medal window that you open and put your urine sample in. Is that awesome or what! You don't need to go out of the bathroom with your cup of pee in your hand! That's like the coolest for me. Well the button you press for a clean toilet cover is a little better then that. That's all the cool stuff for the office. Now for Dr. Sultan. She is very sweet and very professional. Super thorough and explains everything in detail. Takes the time to explain in her office if you need more information. My wife was diagnosed with uterus cancer. She got things rolling quickly and my wife is now cancer free! Dr. Sultan made sure we got what was needed to be done ahead of time and worked with us very closely. She was also a part of my wife's surgery. She also came on her day off to check on my wife in the hospital. She is a wonderful doctor and a wonderful person. If you are looking for a new OBGYN, look no further. She is someone I would recommend for sure. read more

I can not say enough wonderful things about this Doctor. She is caring, thoughtful, listens and really knows her stuff!! I came to her experiencing severe bleeding and already knowing a hysterecomy was going to have to be in my future. My case was rather difficult and would require a serious level of skill which thankfully she possessed. I was really nervous going into surgery but I could feel her holding my hand and gently rubbing the top to comfort me and know that everything would be ok. I came out of surgery with flying colors and she was able to skillfully address everything that needed to be done. Finally and one of the best parts is the scar I was left with. I had a previous surgery in that same area and had healing complications and was left with a horrible scare prior to this surgery. After this surgery however I feel as if I went to a plastic surgeon based off of just howe beautiful and perfect my invisible scar is turning out to be. Not only did she fix my problem but she didn't leave me with some terrible scar to remember this whole thing by. I am absolutely head over heals about this doctor and the ladies in her office!! They are awesome and you are a fool if you pick anyone other than Dr. Sulton and Honu Women's Health read more

At first I thought she was a very nice and compassionate doctor. I was in my first trimester towards the very end mark, and they said they normally don't take patients past this mark, however, they made an exception and saw me. I was torn as I had a very trying decision to make, and was feeling extremely vulnerable. Due to such circumstances I was referred me to a specialist by Dr. Sultan to do some testing at Women's Specialty Care.....which went well. However, upon the results coming back preliminary normal from Women's specialty care, I called Teresa who had left a message for me to see about scheduling the next appointment ....for a follow up with Dr. Sultan, as was the original plan Dr. Sultan had discussed with me. However, upon calling....Teresa in scheduling quickly informed me that Dr. Sultan may not be able to see me as a patient any longer, I was shocked as due to very personal circumstances (labs and other tests were put on hold until the results from Women's Specialty Clinic we're back)! This was what I was told originally as there was no point unless the results came back normal! It is so incredibly disheartening to be thrown under the bus after going through such a tough time (physically and emotionally). I really don't think that a Dr. who has true compassion for mothers and babies would or should just decide to no longer see you after having 2 visits, one with ultrasound in her office, and referring you to a specialist! I feel so horrible! They were short and rude with me on the phone stating we'll Dr. Sultan can't see you anymore as you're not in your first trimester and never did the labs! Like duh!!!! That was the plan and I had seen her twice in the first trimester. Now I have to search for a OBGYN who will take me which is so difficult now being in the second trimester. Any truly caring doctor, would have made good on the plan originally discussed and just had me follow up as planned (now that I have been cleared by Women's Specialty)! The only logical explanation is personal which is so unprofessional! If you want to be JUDGED HARD, at a very sensitive time in your life such as having a pregnancy with a known history of having a special needs child with a severe genetic mutation then come here! Otherwise, I suggest you stay FAR FAR away! I am so disappointed to be treated with such judgement and disrespect not only for myself (that I can take as I am far from perfect) but when it affects an innocent unborn child then it is just immoral and plain WRONG!!!! read more

Normally I would recommend them, however I just received a bill from them and haven't been a patient or lived in Hawaii for two years. Their billing department is "off site" and the only way to speak with them is through email. Sketchy. Apparently I've had an outstanding bill with them and nobody bothered to try to get a hold of me for over two years until yesterday when I received a past due invoice to my email. I paid it immediately but this is terrible customer service and clearly you've had the ability to email me or call me this entire time. read more

A PLACE FOR WOMEN For a while I've been going to Dr. Dao at Queens- because he's been there forever and he is really nice. Also because I guess I'm primed to think of Queens and the traditional hospital as the only options. So I started seeing him when I was preggos with my son. He's a great doc but every time I'd mention problems I was having- he'd chalk it up to the price of having babies. I'd just have to live with it. And I accepted that as reality because what do I know right? Until a couple years back I was introduced to the ladies at Honu WH at a conference and noticed they did a lot of "aesthetic" services. They looked super ahead of the times with women's health. So after another appt with Dr Dao for a problem I was having where he threw his hands up and said nothing could be done, I decided to visit with Dr. Sultan for a second opinion. Located in downtown, (parking validated in Pioneer Plaza) she is convenient enough for me to walk over on my lunch break. Her office is filled with top of the line equipment and catered to making YOU feel comfortable. After examining me, she thought I may actually need surgery and referred me to another specialist - a specialty that I never knew existed. But she told me that I DIDN'T need to suffer with this problem and that it could be corrected. I was relieved and so grateful- I felt like she was on my team. I don't feel embarrassed telling her my symptoms, I feel like she empathizes and doesn't brush it off the way Dr. Dao did. Today, I'm fully recovered from my surgery and feel great! This is my first yelp review and I had to write this. Dr. Sultan delivered our son and I am so thankful for everything she has done. I was new to the island and had an unfortunate experience with another ob-gyn. Dr. Sultan gladly accepted me as her patient several weeks into my pregnancy. She is knowledgeable and truly cares about her patients. Dr. Sultan and her staff take their time to assist and answer any questions-concerns you may have. You will never feel like you're being rush out of her office. I appreciate the cleanliness and updated equipment in her office as well. Side note-I was in labor for two days. She was at the hospital checking up on me/baby up until the birth and even came every day after the birth until we went home. I was truly blessed I found Dr. Sultan to deliver our son and could not have asked for a better doctor. read more

I googled Dr. Sultan and Honu Women's Health office, as its location was perfect for my work schedule in downtown Honolulu. I had been having mild symptoms of burning/stinging during urination. I was completely misdiagnosed by this doctor, and want to serve as a warning to others who might be considering this office AND this doctor! Upon entering the suite, red flag #1-I experienced the sensation of being in a brightly-lit cosmetological sales office. I waited a long time in this lobby area, where EVERYWHERE one was visually directed to 'learn' more about the newest, state-of-the-art 'labial' surgery technique to unfuse labial tissue (and, I never knew that I needed to unfuse my labial tissue). I was finally taken back to an exam room, escorted by a young woman in scrubs, who was so ignorant that she didn't know how to pronounce the word, vaginal, which was quite unsettling for me...I even corrected her. Red flag #2. After another half-hour wait in my paper robe (and mind you...I was the ONLY patient in the office at the time), red flag #3 - the doctor finally came in. She asked about my symptoms (CLASSIC for a UTI), she performed a pap smear, at which time, she discovered, much to my surprise...and NOT, that some of my labial layers were fused together. Here comes red-flag #4 - and the sales pitch about her ground-breaking surgical fix for this problem. Everything else seemed to her to be fine for a 66-year-old female. She completed the exam AND the sales pitch, and said that she would discuss her thoughts with me in her office after I got dressed. Red-flag #5 - when I went to her office for my summary, there was a monitor on her desk showing more information about the labial fusion technique. By this time, I just wanted to get out of there! Dr. Sultan never revisited the symptoms for which I came to her in the first place. I suffered for another 6 weeks with this UTI, not knowing that this was what I had, and am finally on strong antibiotics to clear it up. This woman is nothing more than a cosmetologist of the labia...SO weird, and SUCH a bait and switch to call herself a gynecologist! Save your money and your time. Go elsewhere!!! read more

I was looking for a new OB/GYN after my previous OB retired. I read an article in a magazine about Honu Women's Health and Dr. Sultan. I made an appointment and was able to get an appointment that fit my schedule. The office is new, clean, and modern. Water and coffee are offered upon arrival. She has a state of the art exam chair that is very interesting. The first pap exam that I've had in many years that did not hurt at all. The first visit does take a while. I was there about two hours. Dr. Sultan went over my health history and listened and asked questions about my concerns. I didn't feel rushed. The parking is $3.00 that is paid at the doctor's office. I highly recommend Dr. Sultan. She also does other procedures for women that is explained on her website. I'm just happy to have found an 0B/GYN that is thorough and friendly too. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Aya Sultan for a little over a year now since my colleague referred her. I never know that a doctor can be as caring, attentive and efficient as Dr. Sultan. All my past experience taught me that all doctors are busy and can only spend little bit of time with patient. Dr. Sultan had completely changed my views and experiences. As a previous review noted, when you first walk in it's like you're there for cosmetic procedures. It wasn't a calming or welcoming feeling when they've got advertisements running on their screen to get body contouring treatments. The staff was friendly, I'll give them that. But, Dr. Sultan gave very generic daily lifestyle advice that you could get off a quick Google search without digging into the research. Suggesting that we look into pills to supplement diets when she has clearly not be trained in nutrition. Overall the experience did not inspire confidence in this doctor. Like she would be one of those who would automatically say that a woman is going to have a c-section just because she's carrying twins, without looking at past history. read more

High quality patient-centered care is what Dr. Sultan and the staff at Honu Women's Health provide. HWH is hands-down the best gynecology office I have ever been to and Dr. Sultan is the most thorough, responsive doctor I have seen in my 42 years. She helped me through the decision to finally have a hysterectomy after suffering with unbearable periods for the better part of 30 years. The decision to have surgery was very difficult for me to make. To make matters more complicated, I was preparing to make an international move and had time constraints to make my decision. I was afraid of having complications and it created a lot of worry on my part that ended up being completely unfounded. Dr. Sultan very gently guided me through and made sure I was ready. She has an amazing bedside manner and could not have been more in-tune with what I needed at the time. I am a nurse, so I do not take any surgical procedure lightly and Dr. Sultan's approach was exactly what I needed. She took me methodically through each step of determining medical necessity along with ensuring my comfort and readiness at each point. It was eventually discovered that I had been suffering with adenomyosis for which the cure is total hysterectomy. As a nurse, I have had the opportunity to work with many doctors in a hospital setting and I can tell you that I have not experienced many who were as conscientious, meticulous, and caring as Dr. Sultan was for me. Not only is she an excellent surgeon, but she made sure I was comfortable through every step of the procedure from making sure I was going to be ok with the positioning on the surgical table to personally checking on me throughout my overnight stay (without the nurse needing to initiate contact...this is RARE!) It has been 20 weeks since my surgery and I feel great!!! Not one complication from surgery despite the intense amount of stress involved in moving across the world 6 weeks post-procedure. I couldn't work, or really enjoy my life for several days to weeks of each month. Now I rejoice in the fact that I literally never have to worry about it again. In addition, she also helped me to get a handle on the cystic acne I have been dealing with for years and my skin has not looked better in several years. She did more than perform a few laser treatments/peels, she taught me how to take care of my skin every day. Something that none of the dermatologists I have seen over the years (and it is no small number of them) offered me. This is a long review, but I really wanted to paint a picture of what a great doctor and truly amazing practice HWH is. You are in good hands here! Dr. Sultan really gives you her all. I was a patient of hers for 4 years until I moved off the island, and Dr Sultan and her team always treated me with professionalism and great care! She really lays out all your options and has great intuition when it comes to treatment and diagnoses. All of my concerns were always taken care of, and she is very knowledgable with modern understandings of new findings and research coming out in this field. I always liked that she looked at health from the full perspective and full picture. An incredible doctor with an incredible staff and I will miss them all very much! Unprofessional!!!!! Completely disregarded my appt. parking and trying to find the office is ridiculous!

I was looking for a gynecologist not far from my house, so that I could walk to the appointments, I don't like driving far. Yelp search showed me several offices and I started calling them. Most of them could offer an appointment months later and many simply didn't pick up the phone. But when I dialed Honu, it was different, they were very polite and offered a next week appointment. Unfortunately I couldn't make it because of my working schedule, so I needed to reschedule several times. Every time I called Honu personnel was highly professional trying their best to accommodate my needs. And when I finally made it to the appointment I received a high-class service by Dr Sultan. She removed my problematic IUD which was displaced and was causing me troubles. I recommend Dr Sultan to anyone as a professional physician and just as a nice personality. read more

I truly had the most unpleasant experience here that I've ever had at an OB/GYN. I've actually worked for an OB/GYN for four years in my past and I know what good doctors are in good staff are. I've also moved a lot so I've been to different OB/GYN doctors before all of which have been great. I decided to go to Dr. Sultan because the facilities looked state-of-the-art and it looked like a comfortable place. I was running late and upon my arrival. I was treated in a manner that made me feel uncomfortable by the staff I was also given a form to fill out quickly in a rush that basically allowed them to perform an HPV test on me even though I did not need to have that performed at this time. I found Dr. Sultan very rough and very unsympathetic to my problem. Her cold bedside manner along with her staff's rudeness leads me to basically never want to go again and not recommend her to anybody. I was also billed for the test that I did not authorize and told that I signed a paper stating that they could do this test even though I was not verbally told that it was being done. It resulted in a bill that my insurance did not cover and even though I argued the office persisted that I had signed the paper. I now go to an excellent OB/GYN in Kailua. read more

I was looking for a new doctor after moving here from Maui a few years ago. Dr. Sultan exceeded all of my expectations. She gave me one of the most thorough exams I've ever had. She did not rush through the exam and took her time going through my medical history and asking follow-up questions. Her equipment is also state of the art. She made me feel comfortable and answered all of my questions. At one of my follow-up appointments, she discussed birth control options with me. I have never ever had someone go through every single available option so thoroughly with me. She reviewed the pros and cons of each option and then recommended what she thought would work best for me. Everyone should experience something like this. Patients are set-up with on-line accounts and can complete forms on-line. Appointment reminders are sent via email and can also be confirmed on-line. She never seemed rushed as she patiently addressed all of my concerns and was thorough in answering all of my questions. As we finished up the exam and I was expecting to leave, Theresa directed me into Dr. Sultan's office where she was patiently waiting to talk to me furthermore about maintaining a well rounded and healthy lifestyle for a woman my age. I feel it's important to note that she did all of this all while knowing this was likely to be my first and last visit to her office as I am moving to the mainland in a few months. I just might have to start a special savings fund so I can return to Dr. Sultan when it's time to see a doctor... she and her office staff definitely exceeded all of my expectations! I highly recommend Honu Women's Health for any downtown working professional. The location is extremely convenient, the office is bright and inviting, and Dr. Sultan does an excellent and thorough job of hearing your concerns and identifying the root cause of your gynecological symptoms/problems. With my intense period pains, my previous provider just advised me to take ibuprofen and did not suggest any further examinations. In my first consultation with Dr. Sultan, she walked me through the female reproductive system and the various chemical and anatomical issues that could be at hand. Since that consultation, she has worked with me through pelvic and SIS exams and has identified what could be the cause of my painful periods. It's reassuring to have a doctor that is focused on finding and addressing the underlying cause of symptoms rather than just relieving symptoms. read more
