Taking a 66% deposit in Arkansas can be legal but is HIGHLY CONDITIONAL. It is typically only allowed for contracts over $25K where the funds are used for non-refundable, special-order materials. I had a $9000 job of river rock work so I don't see that falling under those guidelines. Since I had been told the work would be completed in one to two weeks, I was pleased. Guess what never happened. I'll agree rain slowed things down, but I was told it was a two or three day job and we had plenty of two and three day's rain free. I decided after 6 weeks I was not comfortable having them do my work. I failed to mention messages not returned, no callbacks and when they did it was always we are on it, or you are not on the schedule when I did talk with someone. I'm sure that if you have dealt with them you have had the same experiences. So I sent notice I was terminating our agreement and two days later low and behold they tried to deliver material. I refused it. I had asked for a full refund and was willing to walk away. Well they don't want to do that. Said they had bought materials. I didn't get any materials and after driving by there yard there isn't enough material there to do my job. So lets summarize all this, THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY DO NO WORK AND DELIVER NO MATERIALS AND REFUSE TO REFUND. Every one be aware of what is going on here.

John promised to begin within 2-3 weeks and said the project would take about a week to complete. He presented a "design" -- just a few pencil lines on paper -- and asked for 75% of the total cost upfront, claiming it was needed for materials. After receiving the money, he stopped responding consistently. For nearly three months, he kept promising to start "tomorrow" or "next week," but rarely showed up. Eventually, he sent one worker for only a day or two, who did very poor work -- simply threw some gravel around and left. John then lied about parts of the project we had agreed upon and again demanded more payment before completing anything. When we refused to pay until the job was done, he disappeared, saying he needed to "order more materials," and never came back. We have been considering legal action and consulting with a lawyer regarding this situation. It is clear that this company takes people's money and does not complete the work. I'm sharing our experience to warn others -- please be extremely cautious before hiring Natural Landscapes and Designs or John Martinez.

We decided to use this contractor after checking others experience. They just completed our timber/rock structure. The workers were very responsive to our requests and definitely got a workout, as we live on a steep hillside at the lake. The project turned out better than expected. My mulch bed looked great at first! Key word "at first" after about a month I noticed that the…read moresheet that goes under the mulch was folding up which was fine I just kind of brushed it off but there wasn't enough mulch layed down to cover the spots where it was folding up so they did not lay down a sufficient amount of mulch. Over time as summer came I noticed A LOT of weeds coming through the bed. They would pop up and I would spray weed killer on them and they would come right back, for clarification I got this mulch bed done in February/March. Two of my trees that they planted are also dying even though they have been watered multiple times since I got them. I'm assuming that they didn't take measures to keep the weed barrier in place. I payed thousands of dollars to get this done and it went down the drain and now I will have to pay another company to fix whatever they did.
