Just finished up my 4th rental, returning to a unit I stayed in last year. Reservations made quickly, email questions answered promptly. They helped with some wifi issues, brought me more detergent, and I even got the TV figured out this time. I wish Oregon would repave I84 to cut traffic noise, but then this place would be too perfect, I guess. May try a new rental with more of a water view next time. But if you want to be able to walk out and be at a great restaurant or brewery on 2 minutes, they can recommend a spot. Place was clean and tidy when I arrived. I'll rent with them again. read more

I can only speak to the one rental we got but it really was amazing - we stayed at Aloft and it was bigger than I expected from the photos (cos let's be real, real estate photos are deceiving) - the living area fit us all comfortably. The stairs were kinda intimidating and that wasn't really apparent from the video or pics but once we got over that, the rest of the house was great - amazing panoramic views, and it comes with A/C that worked really well. The garbage disposal was broken but no biggie... and the house was pretty clean. Overall pretty happy with it and I would stay at least at this particular house again in a heartbeat! read more

Rented Absolute Vista (1 and 2) for a week with my family. HRVR tried to be very accommodating about the fact that I was very unhappy with the unit. They provided us with extra fans and ant traps for the ants throughout the house. The sent a handyman to put the screen doors on the upstairs unit (Absolute Vista 1) which fell off the tracks the next day. They offered another unit which was available but it had too much glass for my grandchildren to play safely. I would certainly consider renting from HRVR again but I would never consider staying in this specific house again! This is certainly not what I was expecting. I question if Absolute Vista was even legal with the lack of appropriate locks and safety equipment. The top step going up to Absolute Vista 1 was not level. There was a piece of wood that should have been cut away to make the stairway going down to Absolute Vista 2 safe! I was very concerned about people tripping up and down the stairs which was quite dangerous. There was a good amount of yard for the kids to enjoy. The kitchens were well equipped although there was a dishwasher upstairs but not downstairs. There was a very friendly neighborhood dog who loved to come over, bring a stick and play fetch with the kids (or anybody else who would throw it for him)! We enjoyed going out for walks through the neighborhood. The house was completely open when the first family member arrived. Several of the locks are not functional. I expected A/C in an area that frequently reaches the mid 90 degree mark. For a house that is supposed to sleep 6 in each unit, I expected it to sleep 6 comfortably!!! The sleeper sofa is barely able to sleep one and is not the quality that I would expect from a sleeper sofa that is supposed to be able to function as a bed. There were ants on the upstairs kitchen counter and throughout the house. For Absolute Vista 2, if a house is to sleep 6, then why does it only seat 4 at the kitchen table and patio table? There are not functional windows in the lower level (Absolute Vista 2) and the one in the bedroom that should open has a broken screen and is covered in bugs and webs!!! There are holes in the screen of the lower level window with the broken lock and the screen doesn't lock. The only functioning door with a lock to the whole lower unit goes into a bedroom? How is that even reasonable? The house needs serious maintenance! read more

We've rented from HRVR for the last four summers since they pretty much have a lock on the vacation rental market in Hood River. Overall, as a business they are responsive to emails and phone calls and have a good website that is easy to use. However, (unlike yelp, tripadvisor, VRBO or AirBNB), a traveler can't actually read honest, up-to-date reviews about the properties from former renters. Thus, you really have to rely upon the pictures and descriptions posted by the management company. And, unfortunately it's always a bit of a gamble as to how the home or apartment will turn out. For example, we were very disappointed with our last rental, "Panorama" for several reasons. The first is that all four bedrooms are located on the East side of the house, just 15-20 feet away from the neighbors house and their newly constructed chicken coop which is home to a very loud rooster who begins crowing every 25 seconds from 4:45 until around 10 AM. Because this house is just outside of the city limits on Riverview Drive, there is no ban on roosters. Even with our windows closed, fans blaring and ear plugs there was no way to drown out the rooster noise. It's unfortunate that the neighbor decided to build their chicken coop next to the Master Bedroom. Thus, after 5 nights of managing only 4 to 5 hours of sleep, our entire party was exhausted and ready to leave. Sleep deprivation really takes the fun out of vacation and thus we really lost on this year's gamble. Second, we were surprised about the freeway noise. Although the home has great views of the river, the sound from Interstate 84 travels directly upward and it is really hard to enjoy eating outside of sleeping with the windows open. Finally, the deck is really much smaller than what we could see from the photos. We spent most of the time inside (to avoid the freeway noise). Here are a couple of tips for those looking for a vacation rental in Hood River: 1) Most of the older quaint homes in town do not have air conditioning. This is fine except for the months of July and August when temps can get close to 100 (and you have a toddler who needs to nap in the afternoon). Just keep this in mind when looking at rentals, and make sure there are windows that open and lots of fans. 2) Freeway noise is predominant in most downtown houses that have views of the river (or are located North of State Street). Although locals might get used to this, after several years of rentals, I'd rather forego the view and instead have a quiet backyard or patio where one can enjoy meals without feeling they are at dining at a Highway Rest Area. Or consider renting across the river in White Salmon. 3) If you don't want to gamble with your vacation rental, I would place a preference on booking properties that have real reviews from real travelers rather than relying upon a management company's descriptions and pictures. These homes are usually operated by the owners who have more at stake than a management company. We've found them to be cleaner, more comfortable and often better value. We have rented from Hood River Vacation Rentals nearly every summer since 2007. While there has been some "variety" in the quality and condition of the various places we've stayed, the customer service provided by Libby and Lesley have been second-to-none. They must manage dozens of properties and yet they somehow manage to provide very personal and responsive service, both during the booking process via email and phone, and during our stay, whether we needed extra towels, an early check-in, or immediate solutions to unforseen challenges. We are kiteboarders with kids so like to be able to walk downtown and see the river from the property, and have found that Kite Beach Lookout and Sailaway are both exceptional stays. Great location and very well-maintained, beautiful homes. We look forward to renting from Hood River Vacation Rentals for many more years to come. You just can't beat the personal attention and their commitment to create satisfied customers. I have called this company a few times in the past, and they have always been slightly rude on the phone and act as though they have better things to do than speak with customers and be helpful. Most recently, I called because I was looking for a weekend rental, and I was on their website from my mobile device. Their mobile site or something must have not been working correctly because it was giving me options to book places at amazingly low prices. It was even going to allow me to book said places right then and there at the low prices, but I decided to call to confirm everything. When I called and explained that the website was allowing myself (and probably others) to book at prices different than what the gal was telling me she essentially just told me I was wrong and brushed me off without trying to address the problem. The whole conversation felt very unprofessional, and leads me to believe they wouldn't have been any more helpful had I just booked the reservation then and there at the wrong pricing. This is one of the worst property management companies I've ever worked with. I've been working with them for 3 months. I reserved a large home for a weekend retreat. I have 12 people flying in from all over the country and I had requested an off-season rate. The property mangers responded that no off season rate was available. I decided to book the house anyway. I was instructed to either book online through vrbo or call their office. I decided to call directly to provide my credit card. Mind you, maybe 15 minutes had gone by and when I called I was told they rented the property to someone else. The other person wanted it for 2 additional days. Unbelievable. But there's more. Come to find out, this property had been rented more than a month prior. Oh and by the way, they're sure they could find something else. I guess bait & switch comes to mind first, quickly followed by absolutely unprofessional and appalling. If you want to hire a property management firm that represents their clients with integrity and professionalism - absolutely do NOT use this company! PS - the girl I spoke to responded to the situation by saying there was nothing they could do & really it was my fault for not calling my credit card in sooner. We just rented two places from HRVR, "Aloft" and "West Windjammer" for our kiteboarding related business trip. Both houses were great. They were better than we imagined from the photos, very clean, had all the amenities we needed during our trip, and were easy breezy to get checked in and out of. When we first checked in to West Windjammer, the AC unit wasn't working properly. It was a very hot day so we called HRVR and they fixed in right away. Anytime we needed anything from them they were prompt and found a simple solution that didn't require anything from us. We found everything we needed in the houses and found it very relaxing that the houses came equip with extra blankets, detergents, extra towels, paper products, etc. I would highly recommend either rental unit and definitely suggest renting from HRVR. It was so nice not to have to stress about any issues that may arise during our trip. read more

What a disappointment. I was trying to plan a vacation in hood river. I have posted to their Facebook page 2-3 times and sent two emails asking for more info and availability. The only response I got was on one of my Facebook post I asked for an email address because I was having a hard time contacting a human. I have been trying for over a week with no success. I am positively sure this would not be a company I would pay to manage my rental. I am one lost customer but I'm sure I'm not the only one. read more
