We just walked out with my family of four with two little kids after waiting 35 minutes for someone to serve us. I even went by the front desk to ask for service after waiting for about 15-20 minutes. Everyone else appeared to be served, but us. When we got up to leave, I told the manager the issue. She apologized, but offered no resolve and no explanation. Just a blank expression. They seemed like they could have cared less. Given that, we won't be back with my kids. My kids asked "Why are we leaving?" I said because they chose not to serve us. Then they said "Why?" I said, I don't know. Worst restaurant experience that I can remember. read more

Only 1 star because I have to select something. Four meals, four disappointments. Nothing was good--the food, the service, or the cleanliness. The flies, however, were thriving. I have been to the Hoof and Barrel many times over the past few years. Recently my family did go to the HB and the experience was not great. It seems that it has been hit and miss over the past six months or so. We typically stick to the same order for wings, burgers and pork chops. I did order wings as a meal and they came out with my salad and were cold when everyone else's food came. The service is the same... hit or miss. I don't know when we will be back but it will be a while. We had a party of 4 adults and a child and with a tip and bull it was just under $100. Entrée took over an hour to arrive. Baseball cut streak was very dry and leathery. My wife's steak was overcooked and cold. Both baked potatoes were also dry and barley warm, so warm butter would not melt. Our steaks had a hint of shellfish taste, which would lead me to believe they were cooked on the same surface as the shellfish on the menu. Cross contamination? I'm glad we're not allergic to shellfish. Our server Sophie was very attentive and apologized for the long wait. If it wasn't for Sophie we would have left. The house salad was a nice portion but wasn't very fresh. Other patrons were complaining about the wait. The only thing good I can say about hoof and barrel is there open during business hours that's the only reason they're getting a star. It's my second time visiting the restaurant the first time was about a week ago I ordered a cheeseburger, easy mustard. It was spewing out mustard. I tried scraping it. It was replaced, and it was replaced. The hamburger was wrong. I can tell the Owner was upset because I sent the plate back twice. I returned with a friend thinking OK one day bad experience this time. I ordered a steak and ordered it medium well and it's completely cooked. The Mac is extremely tasteless and dry. Our favorite go-to in York. Staff is always smiling - sign of good management! Food is perfectly prepared - happy the Cod (fish & chips) are now available in a smaller portion. Sooo good - perfectly crispy on the outside, and then melts in your mouth!! I ordered shrimp and grits. They were out of shrimp and grits. I ordered two hotdog all the way get home two hot dogs with ketchup and mustard is what I received. Take it back for them to fix it. Give me the same two hot dogs and it looks like it does below that is absolutely ridiculous and poor customer service. We recently visited Hoof and Barrel and had a wonderful experience! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were genuinely friendly and attentive. The burgers tasted great -- juicy and flavorful. What stood out most was how accommodating they were to my 12-year-old son's gluten allergy. He ordered a hamburger with plain rice, and it was prepared with no issues at all. That level of care gave us peace of mind. The only thing we wished is that they offered a dedicated fryer for gluten-free cooking, so my son could also enjoy their house chips or fries. But overall -- lovely place, tasty food, and a staff who clearly cares about their customers' dietary needs. Highly recommended! read more

Place was busy so service was slow. Cocktails fair at best and very small except the price wasn't small. I paid $3 extra for a salad which came out after we got our entrees and I had to ask for it then. Also paid $2 extra for broccoli salad which was a very small portion. Skirt steak was tough. Ventured here after looking at the reviews and menu. What a great experience. It's small inside but even between the lunch and dinner rush it was busy. All the wait staff are young but are professional and deliver. We had the baseball steak, flank steak, and bone-in pork chop. It was all cooked perfectly and all cuts tender. Would never go back after choosing a constructor if bacon wrapped shrimp full of very highly spiced pepper that burned my tongue for way too long! Large overcooked shrimp wrapped in thick heavy fatted bacon that was so fatty full of uncooked stringy fat that I couldn't bite it nor cut it. Sent it back and asked to have the$20 charge removed. I only ate 2 of 6. Returned rest of the plate and the owner only took off $5! We paid $15 for nothing but disappointment! I would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

New to York, S.C., I thought I would try the Hoof and Barrel for dinner. If you want to try this place, I have one word for you, DON'T. I took two friends with me. I should have known something when I watched one of my friends cut off at least a third of his steak's fat in order to eat it. Evidently, my broccoli had been cooked earlier and put into a microwave to reheat. It had come apart. The baked potato had been cooked days earlier and was so tough I could not cut it, even with a steak knife. My friend had ordered mac and cheese, two servings. He ate most of one, but would not touch the other, saying it was the worst he had ever had. Our server was very pleasant, but that was the only good thing I can say about this place. We were in town for a baseball game and wanted to eat local. This place is super cute. Rustic, farm decor was very pleasing. We started with the bread and some mozzarella sticks. No one in my group loves pimento cheese so we got butter instead. The bread plate would have been good with just bread. Not sure why they have a pretzel on there but it was fine. For our meal we had several dishes. A sunny pasture burger which had a perfectly cooked egg on it. It was delicious! We also had chicken tenders and a hot dog. Both were tasty. This evening we order the little barrel and the bowel they served it in was such a joke in so many ways . it a bowl that you put a cup of soup in. yes it was that small. When we questioned it the waitress said the owner changed the bowls . That was a mistake , it is so small you can't cut your salad without it going all over the table . We ask them to bring up bigger bowels . You want your food served in such a way it looks appetizing and is a pleasure to eat . You need to get ride of those ridicules bowels . read more

Was pleasently surprised. Was expecting a normal, middling burger and fries, but found my food was really, really good. Maybe I was just hungry, but my wife agreed hers was really good too! Helped a ton that our server, Ashley, was on top of things. I always judge a server by never having to ask for a refill and she was awesome about making sure my cup never ran empty. The restaurant itself has a nice feel. . .casual for sure, but great if you just want a really good, relaxing meal. 10/10 would recomend. read more

Very slow. Don't make to food as requested told them no hot sauce and got food it was ont the sandwich and when told them was told it's not on there. I know what hot sauce looks and tastes like. Had to ask for sweet tea a few times and when we got the tea it had something in the seasoning my husband just asked for a coke. Would give it zero stars if I could. I ordered the turkey sandwich. Luckily the bread was very good because that's just about all the sandwich was. Very...very...little turkey. My side was roasted veggies of zucchini & onions and they were served almost raw. Our waitress Tammy was doing the very best she could & was very nice but extremely overwhelmed. My husband ordered their goat cheese burger medium rare and it was well done. The patty was again..very...very...small. We had the fried mushrooms appetizer and they were fantastic. We were super excited to try this place and arrived around 2:30 the blonde bartender saw us and a dark haired waitress saw us and a young man from the back came out front and saw us not one of them greeted us or smiled back when we smiled waiting for them to seat us. The place was pretty empty. We were standing out front for just over ten minutes with multiple people choosing not to acknowledge or even say they would be with us in a moment. We will not be coming back. We didn't even get a chance to try the food which was the worst part. Unfortunately if the only three people we see working there look at us some even looking at us multiple times and choose not to acknowledge, engage or even smile back then I guess we can find a place that is interested in making money. read more
