Early after noon on Saturday. I didn't check the door but drive-thru service was open. 2-3 cars in line. I wanted some fresh fish. This is the place to go. The building is aged, but the folks friendly and are more than accommodating. She came outside to help with me ordering. And I needed help, the menu is busy and slightly confusing. The intercom doesn't function so well. No matter, it's the food that counts. I ordered catfish nuggets and wings. The order was up after a few minutes. Surprising quick considering. The food very hot. The order was $10. More than I wanted for lunch. It was really a meal for two. The nuggets were juicy and lightly battered. Fried perfectly. Hooks is a go to in my home. Very quick dinner, not the healthiest but price wise and quickness they never fail to make us happy.

Outside can trick you but baby, this southern girl can vouch for the fried snapper and okra! Good portion because it is a whole fish! They cut the tail off(not sure why because that's my favorite part) leave the head on and fry that bad boy. I can appreciate them leaving the head on. I'm a real southern gal. We somehow came across this place looking for late night food. I was little discouraged, but my BF insisted we try it. Had it once and had to go back. The first time I tried the livers-delicious! The second time, I ordered livers and gizzards-delicious! Most recently, my parents came to visit, and we ordered everything! Lol. My parents did the pan meal with chicken wings, shrimp, and fish with okra. I got the snapper with fried mushrooms. My BF got the liver and gizzards with fries. Everything was perfect! I went last night to get dinner for my family and I as soon as I got home and opened the box of chicken it looked different, dark in color and kinda strange looking. I know everyone's raving about that "white dust" they use as a seasoning, but I found it to be very salty with no discernable flavor. Hook fish & chicken is conveniently located on Atlantic Blvd and the I-295 exit. The building itself looks like it's 30 yrs old and a little rundown, but it was by no means dirty. The staff was friendly and my food arrived in about 5 minutes. The menu consisted primarily of 2 item combos with your choice of fried chicken wings, liver, gizzards, shrimp, fish and french fries. The combo I chose was the fried shrimp and gizzards. When it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by mountain of fried glory sitting before me. The gizzards were piled high atop the fries and the 8 shrimp were still steaming! I always eat my gizzards with a Louisiana style hot sauce, which I was happy to see they served. I tried the cocktail and tartar sauces with the shrimp and fries, but those were mediocre at best. The cocktail sauce tasted too much like ketchup and the tarter was basically sweet mayonnaise. But after a request for extra lemons, the meal was quite enjoyable! If your looking for fresh fried fish at a great price, don't hesitate to give Hook a chance. Normally I like hooks but their customer service is horrible at times. I always ask for them to cut the head off the snapper for me. It always happen but one day the guy is going to tell they can't do that when it has happened so many times before. My food was ready and all they had to do was cut the head off and the guy is going to tell me it's going to take 20 minutes for it to be done. That's crazy. Another time I ordered the snapper I waited for at least 15 minutes for it and got home to have the wrong order. Most times their foods is great but that experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I haven't been back since because if you requested something, it shouldn't be that hard to do when it was listed with the order you accepted. These guys know how to make chicken - they've been a lifesaver during the pandemic staying open late serving fresh, high-quality and well-seasoned food every time. Even with how busy they can get, their lines go by quickly because they come out and proactively take orders in advance. I usually get #23 because their wings and chicken are so delicious. Their seafood is just as satisfying if you're into that. I will add, their sweet tea is bomb. Friendly service is also definitely worth recognizing.
