This spot is a soul food haven with so many dishes to choose from . The menu options were posted on the wall as well as a friendly staff. I was greeted at the door with a very nice server. The inside is roomy with seating . I'am a southern girl so I tried the pig feet entree which was delicious and an old school dish. Almost better than my grandma's. read more

Today my wife and I decided to dine at Blu Diner, and it was a very enjoyable experience. I ordered the turkey wings with dressing, mac and cheese, and a side of greens. My wife had the BBQ pig feet with rice and greens. All of the food was perfectly cooked and very well balanced in seasoning--not overly seasoned and not bland. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. I would give the meal a 9 out of 10. Whoever was in the kitchen today clearly put a lot of care into the food. Our server, Daja M, was extremely professional and attentive. She responded to every question and request I had with courtesy and a positive attitude. From the moment we walked in, she greeted us promptly and made us feel welcome. While taking our order, she was polite and appreciative, thanking us and also greeting other customers who entered behind us. Her professionalism and friendly demeanor created a comfortable atmosphere for everyone dining there. The portion sizes were also well worth the price. Each plate was around $15, and the quality and quantity made it a great value. Additionally, the dining area was very clean. There were no dirty tables or sticky floors, which made the experience even more pleasant. Overall, I truly enjoyed everything about our visit today. The food is off the chain good. So many different wonderful main dishes with perfect seasoning. Today I had the beef stew with green beans and Mac n cheese. We actually ordered 4 different sides to try and all were delicious. They give large portions so if you are with a friend you could share a meal if you could agree on what to order. The staff are so patient while you go thru the line trying to make decisions. Came here for lunch during my science monthly meeting. I got a veggie plate but my coworker got a turkey wing plate with mac and cheese and okra. I recently moved to the Northside and I've been looking for the good food. Blu Diner is exactly what I needed. Apparently this place has been around for decades and I can see why. First of all, if you don't know what you're looking for, you might drive right by it. But once you're there, you'll find a ride dining room, good air conditioning, and a cafeteria style setup. One of my pet peeves is food not being kept at the proper temperature. My food at Blu is always piping hot. My two favorite things are the curry turkey wing and their green beans, but you can't go wrong with anything on the line. read more

Pig feet and smothered pork chops. After reading the reviews I had to try it for myself. I was craving pig feet in day and took a shot in the dark. Buffet served set up with only a few staff member. The food appeared to look really good when in the hot trays. I took it to go. Once home the gravy began to look like premade jar gravy was poured in the pork chops. Visited the Blu Diner on 06OCT24. It's been years (possibly 10) since I've visited this establishment. I must say, a totally new and welcoming environment. I ordered turkey wings (additional wing not pictured) yellow rice, greens, Mac and cheese. Meatloaf, (additional piece of meatloaf), yellow rice, cabbage and corn. I also ordered a side of dressing. All items were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The Mac and cheese stood out amongst all items. I was not a huge fan of the dressing. However, it was edible. Pineapple lemonade was on point! I arrived around 1 PM. Line was somewhat long. However, staff was accommodating and served rapidly with professionalism. The portion size for the entree was massive. I ordered the liver and it was very good. I would definitely recommend the liver and gravy. I got the cabbage as well. It was good not very seasoned. It was more sweet than savory but I enjoyed it. Macaroni and cheese was where I was disappointed. I love macaroni and cheese. I did not like this macaroni at all. It taste like sour cream and I know some people put sour cream in their macaroni, I don't like that. It also could have been baked longer for my liking. Overall all though the food was good and I would recommend eating there. When I'm in Jacksonville I will visit there again. They had spaghetti that looked good and I wanted to try it and some steak and gravy that looked as well. read more

Was my husband's and I first time trying this restaurant. Did not disappoint, turkey was tender and delicious. Black eyes pea's reminded me of my Aunt Shirley. Greens were fresh and tender. Mac and cheese had great flavor. The yellow rice was perfect for soaking up the turkey gravy. Next time we will have to show up earlier to get more options. Happened to be near this side of town and saw recommendations for this place for soul food, which we don't have enough of in Jax (as far as I've seen). Figured I'd try a variety of things. Ordered Turkey necks, spaghetti, Lima beans, beef stew and peach cobbler thru Grubhub. They ended up being out of peach cobbler when I got there . So, the food... large/good sized portions for everything but oddly enough everything was kinda bland. I think I must have caught them on an off day, because soul food and bland don't go together. read more

Decided to try this place out due one of my yelp friends reviews. I am SO HAPPY I did! There's so much to choose from, this is not your standard soul food restaurant. We came an hour before closing and usually at other places they run out of food but here, this place right here? They call out to the kitchen for a refill of what the customer wants! I was so psyched! I got smothered pork chops, black eyed peas and Mac n cheese that were to die for. My dinner companion had the smothered turkey legs, yams and black eyed peas. They come with rice and cornbread. Needless to say, I know what I'm having for lunch tomorrow:). I'm definitely coming back because I have to try that peach cobbler and smothered chicken. I was excited to have a soul food restaurant so close by my home. I have purchased 3 meals, turkey wings, stewed beef (?) and oxtails. I thought the flavor of the oxtails were good, however they charge more than Soul Food bistro for a lot less. I leave the Bistro with big oxtails and some of the meat that has fallen off the bone. Here, the provided 3 oxtails that were half the size, no side meat. The flavor was good, but so costly for so little. The turkey wings were okay and I like the option of white rice. read more

This is definitely at the top of my list of best soul food restaurants in Jacksonville. They always have good food and friendly service. My favorite two are the turkey wing dinner and the fried pork chops dinners I've never had a problem but finishing all my food because they give generous portions. read more

The only thing I can say good about this restaurant is the drink was the only thing good, IJS soooo I ordered a oxtail dinner ok wasn't too bad cld of been seasoned a little more but any who let me tell y'all about the food overall ok so my greens wasn't done @ all nor was my cornbread, not to mention my Mac and cheese wasn't done either, yams wasn't good at all I was so disappointing that I gave restaurant a call and explain everything to them now the young lady that answered my call was very apologetic and told me she would give me a store credit hopefully the cooks can get it together with Covid still around who needs to be getting sick from in cooked food very unprofessional to serve uncooked food so I'm a very unsatisfied customer food went in the trash and 40 dollars down the drain read more

Here from out of town and had a taste for soul food. The recommended places given to me were already closed or near closing. I ran across this place and since the reviews were good I gave it a try. They definitely didn't disappoint. My only issue was that I ordered pork chops but they ran out so I was sent turkey wings instead. The macaroni & green beans were delicious! read more

The overall vibes were casual in a nice way -- nothing too aggressively themed, just a good and bright breakfast spot. Our server, Bonnie, was friendly and helpful. I ended up ordering a hodge podge of breakfast items: eggs over medium, hash browns, cheese grits, a waffle, and a blueberry muffin split and grilled. My mom got an egg sandwich with grits and vegetarian sausage (yay!). Our food came pretty quickly, and I hoovered up everything on my plate. Everything tasted the way you'd expect: just good breakfast food. The hash browns had a crisp top, which is vital for me. The malted waffle stood out the most; I could smell it the second our server walked out of the kitchen with it and I ate the whole thing, even though I frequently split a waffle and take half home for later. The muffin was good, but a special shoutout for the option to have it split, buttered, and lightly grilled. I immediately requested my mom start trying that with her own blueberry muffins next time I'm over. It's a little pricey, but what isn't these days? It sure hit the spot.

The table next to us had a couple with their golden retriever puppy. Service was great, food was delicious and reasonably priced. I built my own omelette with chicken, spinach, and Swiss cheese with wheat toast. I upgraded my side to fruit. My husband ordered the 2-2-2 and said his pancakes were great. Our friend ordered the chicken salad plate, they make their chicken salad in house and she really liked it. I went inside for a quick bathroom stop before leaving and inside was really cute as well. Looking forward to returning soon!
