First time visiting this restaurant and found it to be quite nice. My wife & I sat at the bar which is first come first serve which was a great idea on a Sunday around noon time as when we sat down there was a line almost to the restaurant rooms which started from the ordering area. With seating at the bar we were served right away by a pleasant women who worked with us our entire stay. We started with the fish dip which was very good. A bit more cream cheese than I normally like but was still very good. Also had the Crab Savannah soup which is like a tomato based she crab soup, excellent!! For our entrees my wife had the Poke' Bowl with seared tuna. Asked for medium rare but got more to a medium color (gray) but the veggies that it came with were fresh, flavorful & crisp! For my self I had the oyster poor boy which was huge! Plenty of oysters and cooked just right. The remoulade sauce had a nice flavor and the veggies also were fresh & crisp. The ambience is more like a warehouse feel but I'm ok with that kind of atmosphere. In talking with our server Sunday's is there busiest day. Honestly the first point isn't too bad because the closer you get to the restaurant, the more it smells like cooked seafood which smelled so so good. But the second point is a huge game changer. Pretty good food. Crab cakes are excellent. My only suggestion is to monitor the seating a bit. I was in a large group and went for a set of open tables only to have a young lady take ownership of the table once we started to sit down. Haven't been to Safe Harbor since the remodel. It is nice to have a bar and additional seating where the fresh catch coolers used to be. There was quite a line when we arrived but we took a seat at the bar (FCFS). Service was very fast and attentive. My wife ordered the fried mayport shrimp as nd I ordered the whole fried snapper. Her shrimp were excellent as usual, but my snapper was overcooked. It was still good, but was dry in the thinner areas. All in all a good visit though. read more

As the name entails Safe Harbor is a watery respite from landlocked troubles. With dried marinara on my back and the red eyes only tears and brackish water can bring, you could guess where I was at in life. I was dehydrated. What Safe Harbor gave me was a glass of cold water, a Shrimp Po Boy, gator tail, conch fritters and shrimp nachoes! It was a king's ransom in terms of quality, grilled and blackened to perfection with a sweet and tangy sauce that's reminiscent of seaside family days where the kids thought dad was still "cool and inspiring." Service was fast and candid too! The clerk was very informative about recommendations and within 15 minutes our food was ready. It's a busy location but well organized and if you're lucky you may just find a spot at the bar where dine-in and take-out orders are processed. Casual seafood, but some things lacked a basic flavor profile you'd expect (crab dip- cold and tasteless). Shrimp and redfish were good, but their tarter sauce tasted like just mayo, and the coleslaw was bland as well - neither sweet (which I don't like) nor tart as I would have expected and preferred. I let the cashier know that I'm gluten free and he immediately put it on my receipt and they prepared my fish in a totally separate pan. Which I appreciate so much! I opted for the sweet potato fries which is new on their menu and they were so good! Here's the worst part.. they come with hush puppies. What a pleasant surprise of a spot. Lots of amazing seafood and they got stonies. It was cold out so I had a "clam chowder" and a shrimp Louie salad. The chowder was the salad was a deconstructed not so great version of a Louie which in my opinion should have the dressing mixed in and be in a bowl but it was served on a tray. This last visit I opted for a clam strip basket with sweet potato fries. I ordered extra hush puppies too, they are the tastiest around. My son had chicken strip and fries and he was very happy with his meal. The service is always friendly and the food is fresh. The wait can be long especially on the weekend. The location is a little far out but it's a beautiful area. The only complaint I have is the portions don't seem to be set in anyway. My sister ordered clam strips, she had about half the amount I did and her's were mostly bits of batter rather than pieces of clam. I think they need to work on this. The crab cake also had shell last time. I understand it's seafood and this happens, but they should really take care to ensure no one breaks a tooth on shell. read more

When our order came (a pick-three platter of calamari, scallops and fried clams) the ONLY thing on the tray that was slightly warmer than room temperature were the French fries.
