Um... what did I walk into? Ok so I had not been to hoops in over 10 years. I remembered it being a sports bar with good pizza. When we arrived to the tables, a woman gave us a menu. At first I assumed she worked there. However, this woman was heavily intoxicated and stumbling around. I also witness a dishwasher appear to be fired as he stormed out swearing. Then he stormed back in because he forgot personal items. Pizza was not that good. I would not return. read more

I haven been there since the new owners took over. Prior to that I liked their pizza, although sometimes it's undercooked. I didn't like being pan handled right at the bar while eating. Hopefully the new owners have gotten that under control. read more

Review Visit: September 22nd, 2015 3 points for delicious pizza. Out of bounds for late night zaniness. Hoops. Hoops is quite the odd place. It's on Main Street in Peoria, so it's easily accessible. They are open until 5:30am. They serve many types of liquor, beer and varieties of pizza. They have available space upstairs. The pizza itself is super delicious. Lots of positives and now, the negatives. Do not come here after the sun goes down. Stuff gets weird. I've been here many times since turning 21 (back in 2008). There are cops always parked next to the building since there is always something going wrong in the general area at night. The clientele goes from business/normal people during the day to the odd ones at night. This one time, a bunch of my friends and I were there and this lady stops by our table and is convinced my friend is her nephew. So she offers to buy us food and drinks and just continues to increase her creep level. Getting really close and touchy-feely. Creeped us all out to no end. We booked it to Richard's as soon as she went to the bathroom. She makes an appearance in the slideshow below, if you are curious about her. I just don't know what it is about that location that does a 180 after the sun goes down. It's a great 'by the slice' pizza place though. So if you go, make sure it's for lunch or an early dinner. The kind of place Anthony Bourdain would love. Divey, real, everything people have posted honestly seems true. The meaty pie slice I had (with a couple Buffalo Trace bourbons - good combo) was hot, crispy, light on sauce, cheesy and delicious. Not a place to go if you're looking for upscale, high end, everything is perfect. Very real Peoria, just tell staff what you want/need and they'll take care of you - it's a bar, not a fancy joint. I sat at the bar and the guy making the pies/calzones cared about the quality and it showed. Not a corporate Applebees etc. operation but, honestly, who wants that all the time. read more

Very disappointed in the lack of service. It appeared their was one staff member who was responsible for bartender, waitress and dishwasher. Sat down and attempted to get service which after 10 minutes We lefted. Big let down. Suggestion would be hire more staff or one that gives a hoot. read more

Not what it use to be. Still love their pizza by the slice (better than when you buy a whole pizza for some reason) slices are large and fresh. Service is hit or miss. Definitely not a safe place to be after dark as shown by the heavy police presence and emergency lighting in the streets. read more

Pizza is okay. I'm the most excited that they have the ability to do green olives as no other pizza place in town seems to have green olives on their menu. Come on Peoria get with it. The environment is a little lackluster. Unfortunately this is in a area of town where there are a lot of People who are strung out or homeless hanging around. There was a guy outside, who was clearly delulu, who was screaming at my partner that he was the brother of the devil and he was going to kick his ass. Ones inside not so bad. The bartenders are pretty chill and no their stuff pretty well. One thing that I did struggle with is the bar was completely filthy. I accidentally stuck my hand and someone else's leftover drink mess. I was disgusted. Then when the bartender came to supposedly wipe it up, she did not. The yuck and water were still there. I'm not talking just water. I'm talking water with pizza pieces floating in it on the bar. And then it did take over an hour for us to wait there in the bar to get our pizza. Like I said, the pizza was decent, it did not reheat very well. And my partner got the white garlic sausage. He said the tomato was just unnecessary on it and made the pizza a bit soggy. So... This place surprised me to the core! Hole in the wall bar with the FRESHEST salad I've ever had, CHEESIEST calzones, and a twice baked spaghetti that took me bake home. This was wonderful food! I encourage anyone to give this place a try. read more

Hoops is a Peoria staple. It's not fine dining and probably not going to be the best pizza you've ever had...but it is REALLY good and its reliably good everytime. It's always served hot and pretty quick, great quality ingredients, always cooked perfect, affordable and generous portions. They run good drink specials (and week day pizza specials) and there isn't one thing on the menu that isn't delicious. They don't get the respect they deserve for their italian beef sandwich...if you haven't tried it I highly recommend it. Hands down the best homemade ranch dressing in Peoria also! My picks...italian beef nachos (hold the lettuce), pizza (duh), pigs in blankets, italian beef sandwich and stromboli. read more

I've been to Hoops a few times before visiting today I tried nachos and salad just know one order is big enough to feed 3 people!!! They are huge. This place is great dive bar in downtown Peoria. Open later than I will ever see. Bar with probably 10 stools and probably 10 tables. They serve pizza by the slice as well as a full menu. Hoop's is compulsory. It's like an itch...you have to scratch it. The point is, did someone actually plan this place...was this a vision or a mistake? Either way, when I'm in town...I'll stop...because I have to. Hoop's is a downtown dive bar, It's not a Pub and not even a stretch of the imagination of a Sports Bar! The storefront sign is misleadingly brilliant! It's a dark void even in the light of day. The female bartenders are tall, talkative and seemingly professional. The staff that prepares the pizza are sketchy, creepy and lurk in the dark background silently until they have to get off their ass and do something! You can order a pizza slice that is "made to order". My sausage, black olive & onion ingredients are never evenly distributed...Never! The cheese quality is "real" however barely melted to ooze like lava on the platter. The fact is that quality control is not a consideration. The star of the show here is the unique "pizza oven", not the cooks nor the pizza itself. I'm only here for a beer, a slice of pizza and to blend into the surroundings to observe. Hoops is a great dive spot. The pizza is excellent (and this is coming from a Boston pizza snob)-It's New England Greek style- but they call it Peoria style. Heather working behind the bar is great. Disappointing. I was having dinner with my buddy, who previously had good experiences here. He agreed that this must have been an "off night" for them. First of all, there was practically NO sauce on the pizza! I mentioned that to one of the waitresses who said, "yeah, sometimes the sauce gets baked in." Here's a word of advice: if the sauce gets "baked in" and disappears....you're not using enough! Secondly, the pizza could have benefited from a little more time in the oven. It would have helped to firm up the crust, which was soggy in places. Increased caramelization of the cheese would have strengthened the flavor. On a positive note, our waitress made sure our glasses were full: therefore, two stars instead of one. With so many good alternatives for pizza in Peoria, however, I won't bother returning. read more

The 4 stars is based solely on the fact that you go to this place and eat this food when your drinking, drunk or desperate to eat (kitchen open till 4am). Good service.
