Tried this place on a whim of craving some good Chinese food! It was great! We got a medley of favorites- dumplings, crab Rangoon, sweet & sour chicken, egg rolls, wonton soup, orange chicken & general tso's! Everything was actually delicious! Fried rice was yummy. I always order the pepper steak and each time there is less and less steak and just smothered with onions. In the past year I have noticed the amount of steak has drastically decreased. I had it again yesterday, and there were less than a handful of small pieces of meat. The dish was instead littered with large pieces of onions. Service - newer faces, friendly Food - 2-3 days old house fried rice, spoiled I used to eat at Hop Hing quite frequently but moved away. I returned to find it under new management. I finished my old favorite, House Fried Rice with duck sauce, and, unfortunately, hunger and nostalgia. I should have known from the first taste it was old. I became sick for five full days. Finally got around to Hop Hing for some takeout. I've been meaning to try all of the Asian restaurants in Medina, but somehow missed this one. And that's unfortunate, because this is one of the best around. There's not a lot of monosodium glutamate in their food, which means it didn't make me very thirsty after eating it. That's a good thing. The food was hot and tasty. I especially liked the fried rice. My Chow Mein Chicken was tasty, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I was expecting a variety of veggies and some noodles, but I got celery, one type of Asian vegetable, and noodles, and broth. It was basically Asian chicken soup. Don't get me wrong it was VERY tasty, but again, not what I was expecting. The spring rolls were crunchy and delicious. The Lo Mein noodles were just average. We have eaten here three times in the last year. Each time, the food was meh. This time, I ordered "house chow mein" and my partner ordered sesame chicken. The chow mein was tasteless. It was full of savoy cabbage, 2 strips of chicken and some shredded pork. While I could visually identify the meats and vegetable, I couldn't taste anything distinctly. I wanted to like, perhaps even love, this place. I read the reviews. I wanted it to be yummy. Too bad for me. The staff is pleasant. The physical restaurant is small and basic. It's about the food. My family and I have been eating at Hop Hing since we were kids! I am 25 now and to this day this is my favorite Chinese Take out! The inside is normal and extremely bright. They have minimal options for seating but it is not necessary because this food is best taken to go! The crab rangoons are the best choice! Creamy and crispy. The TOM YUM SOUP! Wow this stuff blows me away every time! They know my dads voice on the phone when we call and each time they make it extra spicy for us! The sesame chicken, fried rice and broccoli is our favorite! Hubby and I bought a house recently and in the process of getting it move-in ready, we pretty much ate our way through Medina. We were delighted with our experience at Hop Hing. It's a small dine-in or carry-out kind of place, not much for decor, but the service is always with a smile, the food is made fresh, and the portions are ridiculous! The food is piping hot when you pick it up and still piping hot when you get home. I recommend the Bourbon Chicken (we asked the gal behind the counter if Bourbon Chicken is really Chinese - she smiled and told us they make it for their American friends :)). It is savory and sweet, and paired with the bone-in short ribs.. you're in for a treat! Don't be surprised if that same gal behind the counter gives you trinkets her grandma brought back from China. My wife and I love the shrimp crackers and ended up buying 4 packs. The flavors are very good. Better than any of the ones we have tried. I used to work in tallmadge and a take out place near that job had a GREAT hot and sour soup. All others that I have tasted are gross. So i bit the bullet and ordered the hot and sour soup and an order of crab rangoon. Both items are FANTASTIC!!!! I also love their home made hot mustard (unlike the packet kind). Decently priced and the large soup is HUGE. I got the large (hoping it was as good as previous reviews had said) so that i could take some to my mother after work. I think she will love it also. If you're a fan of Dragon Buffet like I am you'll love Hop Hing. They have the same menu because they are owned by the same family. I love some good cheap Chinese food and Hop Hing is that place for me in Medina. I've been going here for years and it is consistently good. I love the Shrimp Fried Rice and Sesame Chicken to name a few. Hop Hing has a few tables that you can sit at for eat in but this basically a take out place. I've been there twice and both experiences were awful. Most recently I ordered orange chicken for my son. He'd asked for noodles instead of rice and I asked the gentleman who took my order if that was okay. Told it was fine. When I went to pick it up, I was told the noodles were an upcharge of $3.75! I don't mind an upcharge for a substitution, but $3.75 for noodles without being told. When I asked about it I was told I can pay for it or not get the noodles. Never ever again. read more
