Went due to our summer league being held here at their gym. Love the small campus. It's so nice and clean.

Ask the Community - Hope International University

How strongly do they incorporate Christian principles and God's word into the curriculum? Is Jesus mentioned in some of the courses, is there prayer or Jesus-lover-minded Professors?

They incorporate Christian principles into every course and the name of Jesus is intertwined into the curriculum. Some professors will even pray with the students before the weekend begins.

I highly recommend meeting with multiple advisors and keeping written documentation of any guidance you receive. My experience at CSUF was exciting at first, and I was genuinely looking forward to completing my degree. However, I encountered significant issues with the transfer-credit evaluation process that resulted in me taking additional courses that ultimately did not apply toward my degree requirements as expected. On several occasions, I contacted counselors for clarification regarding whether specific community college courses would satisfy CSUF requirements. Unfortunately, I either received no response or inconsistent information. Some transferred courses were accepted, while others were later denied despite my efforts to verify them beforehand. I believe CSUF would greatly benefit from improving communication between advising departments and updating the TDA system to provide clearer, more consistent transfer-credit evaluations. Doing so could help future transfer students avoid unnecessary coursework, additional tuition costs, and delayed graduation timelines.

Come to find out, my physical textbook didn't correspond to the online textbook. Paragraphs were missing in each chapter, or data statistics were not the same. I scratch notes and make highlights physically into my book to help me study information l, hence why I purchased the textbook. When attempting to fill in information that was missing, it became ok much to do in each chapter. I informed my professor that I am getting chapter questions incorrect due to questions being asked that were not in my physical textbook. My professor's response was "...printed textbooks are published every 3 to 4 years. By the time it gets to print what was written is 9 months old before the actual publish date... Unfortunately, we cannot stop the world from changing." Is this something where I say "you're right Professor. What was I thinking?" Why do I spend money on outdated material? It appears that the material is sold at the Fullerton College bookstore because the professor approved it. I ask again, why do I have an outdated textbook that was sold to me by the school?

I put my heart into practicing long hours for the city competition and I still have been proud that I got the prize from it. Then time went by and I realized that I should measure different options for my lifetime career and there my violin became the less priority. After all, there is one and only Sarah Chang. I wanted to fill that leap of time and dusted off my violin hidden in my closet and went to this school to create beautiful sound once more. Moving on... The actual school space: very small, run down, doesn't look like "university." The majority of the school ground has no sound proof. Most rooms are small and heated to max during the day because of the windows are apparently walls. There are few rooms for more advanced ones who have orchestra or competition purposes. I didn't let few minors to defeat my passion though. The school president aka the owner is very understanding, kind and caring. The daughter who hangs around the school, NOT. She gave me evil eyes couple of times with no apparent reasons. I paid on time and worked on my skills with best of intention. It's not like I practice in the middle of the waiting room. One word: Creepy. I do not like the daughter's attitude towards the kind disciples like myself. Currently trying to find other academies, not necessarily "university."

As much as I'd want to rate the dorms higher because of my awesome memories there, I can't. The…read moreyear I spent living on campus was a blast - it's convenient, you can explore campus at night, there are study rooms open all the time. We made some awesome friendships, even with the ducks and raccoons that roamed the grounds. The actual dorms themselves weren't terrible, but compared to every other on campus housing I've visited they dwindle in comparison. (We did have balconies in the doubles though, which was sweet). But most of all, there were so many random issues that came up that just kind of ... sucked. This is for the 2012-2013 school year, so hopefully things have improved. One of the biggest issues I had was with the way the keys worked. If you somehow got locked out the temporary key could only be borrowed for an hour - meaning you pick it up, use it to get back in the room, and have to go drop it back off in the office. This was fine if you locked your key in the room, but not fine if you actually lost it. Because the keys were encoded on our id cards, and the library would only give new id cards on the weekdays, if you lost your id card after 5 pm on Friday you couldn't get a new encoded one until Monday morning. You'd either have to be an annoying roommate constantly asking to get back in or lock yourself in your room all weekend. The first semester one of the apartments had this "minor" issue where anything that went down the garbage disposal from the floors above it would come UP their sink. Yes, exactly ... what. The food we put down the sink on the 4th, 3rd, and 2nd floors came up and out of the sink on the 1st floor. One day they came back to an apartment flooded with the food remains and water from the upper floors, which needless to say smelt absolutely disgusting. The three upper apartments couldn't use the garbage disposal for a few days, everyone from the bottom one just avoided the living room. It got fixed, but that isn't something that should need to be fixed in the first place. When we came back for second semester we were greeted with broken water heaters, which meant no warm showers even in January. Our entire building had cold water apparently because of some part that needed to be ordered and would take a bit to ship. They did leave kind little notes on our doors saying we could use freshman dorm showers in other buildings if we wanted too. Also, they did give us all free movie tickets for the troubles. How sweet, we can have a smelly group outing to the cinema! It ended up fixed a week or so later, but again ... seriously? On a more positive note, the groundskeeper who maintains all the plants is super cheery and always made my day! Always greeted good morning with a smile on his face. Even if he was just doing weeds he would make some comment like "weeds are just flowers that grow in the wrong places", his positivity was a nice way to start any day.

Little do people realize that Cal State Fullerton has quite an extensive collection of carnivorous…read moreplants. I discovered this during my first or second semester when the LA Weekly ran a story on a club of remarkable individuals who grew the meat-eating vegetation as a hobby. Listed among the members was Ed Read, who ran the greenhouses near CSUF's McCarthy Hall. A year or so later, I took a tour of the greenhouses with Mr. Read himself. He was so very helpful while also laid-back. The man really knows his plants, and since this is something he also does when not on the clock he really loves to talk about them. If you go to take pictures, he'll walk around with you, tell you about each plant, and write the name of it on a piece of paper and hold it in front of the plant for you so you'll be able to identify it later. CSUF also has several specimens of titan arum (a.k.a. corpse flowers), the plant that smells like rotting meat when it blooms (which is considered a big deal when it does blossom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_publicised_titan_arum_blooms_in_cultivation). The greenhouses just tend to go unnoticed by the general student population, and they're quite a gem. Ed cultivates all sorts of carnivorous plants, some of them rare in the States like Albany Pitcher Plants from Perth, Australia. It's completely free to walk around the greenhouses, but it would be best to call Ed ahead of time so he knows who you are and what you're doing.
