She's so confident in the water and loves to swim and show off her skills. The pool itself is gorgeous and a pleasant place to observe lessons. The owner is kind and professional. This review is long overdue. We've had our son working with Starfish (starting with Sarah and then mostly with Maria) for three summers now, and we're so happy with his progress. He went from a kid who didn't like having his face underwater to a little guy who played splash ball this summer and loves diving into the deep end. They worked on water comfort first. That moved into water safety. After he was water safe, Maria worked with him on different strokes and his breathing. All in all, this was a pleasant experience for everyone, and we have a tiny fish. read more

This is a great program! My boys really enjoy going to their lessons and they also progressed quickly. There is a changing tent and places to sit and watch. There is also a little water table for a younger sibling to be entertained while they wait for their turn. Just make sure you wear bug repellent because the mosquitoes are vicious. read more

Was recommend by an acquaintance, who had nothing but good things to say about all the swim instructors so decided to register my 3yr old daughter Valentina into swim lesson's last year. It was her first time and she loved it. Miss Maria, Miss Samantha and Miss Ava were all amazing, and friendly and easy going which made my daughter feel comfortable. If i can give it zero I would. Pretty sure we were just catfished into thinking this was a legit swim academy when in reality it's run by people who have zero awareness on how to handle small children who are new to swim lessons. My husband and I brought our three year old for a private class and had already mentioned it was her first time taking a class. She's been swimming almost every day in our pool at home, so we felt like it was time for her to take classes to learn specific techniques so that she can be extra comfortable in the pool. Sara, the owner, almost ruined everything we've been working on by running out of her house to yell at us for wanting to use a floaty (we didn't know this was a rule that they don't allow), told Max to just grab her and let her cry in the pool which he did, then when I said I didn't want her to cry she said we needed to leave for them to be comfortable with her swimming. We said fine, I walked away and she grabbed my daughter made the call to let her scream cry and then decided she's not "ready for lessons". basically, it was nightmarish and now I have to backtrack with my daughter and teach her that swim lessons are fun and teachers are nice. This will be my honest review for the unprofessional and rude experience I've had with the owner of Starfish Swim Academy by the name of Sarah. My family and I ultimately tried our best to be respectful and consistent clients for her business but decided it was not the right "Academy" for my son. After researching swimming lessons for my 6 and half year old son, I found Starfish Swim Academy on my Google search. Went on their poorly designed website and when pressing the price listings, all that was listed was to email her for an inquiry. So emailed her what the rates would be for my son, copy and pasted and DM'd her on their Instagram page. Took over a week for her to finally reply by text but we were happy to set our appointments with an instructor at their pool in La Mirada. When asking about payments, she informed me that she only accepted Venmo so politely asked her if Zelle would work in which she accepted for 2 lessons. After the payment went through, her texts felt very abrupt and pressured with another opening with the same instructor and politely declined for I had prior plans with my work schedule. The first lesson was pleasant with the male instructor by the name of Eric and my son seemed to enjoy his lesson and was looking forward to his next lesson which was the next day. Although my son did not enjoy going under the water because of the Pandemic and our pools were closed, I advised him to try his best. That evening, politely texted Sarah if she was willing to accept cash since my mother was willing to fund his lesson and my older sister was willing to Zelle her for his lessons but she never replied. The second lesson we had wasn't as fun as the first because there was another student and another female instructor there but that wasn't the main problem. Eric pressured my son to go under the pool water and by the 3rd or 4th time my son cried he decided to move onto another sequence that was completely different from the day before. I politely asked him to teach the same skills from the day before in order for my son to remember the sequence. By the end of the lesson I saw Sarah and she "apologized" for not having the time to reply which I told her that was fine because I brought my own receipt book in order to keep track for tax purposes and Eric signed off for those 2 lessons. Once we made our 30 minute commute back to our home, Sarah texted saying I was the first client to ever ask for an invoice and told her the truth that I ran my own business yoga for 7 years in which I would commute to my clients and accepted Venmo, Zelle, Cash, Checks, and Credit Cards and always made sure my clients received an invoice for my services. She responded that she was working on a system and knew they were taking a couple weeks off for vacation. Told her that Seth spoke highly of Eric and that we would still like to continue lessons with him  through Zelle after their vacation and that I would bring my own receipt book. On Sunday July 27th, 2021 texted asking if we were able to schedule with Eric for a Thursday session and her response was that he was fully booked for a few weeks and would let me know if there would be any cancellation. My next response to her was asking for the last 2 weeks of July and providing her 6 days for his availability and she hasn't nor ever will reply because I felt that she had some animosity or was offended because asking for an invoice. I tried my best to keep our communication clear and polite but if she can not answer a text then she clearly does not care for her students or clients. I lost all respect for her and would've slightly respected her more if she would've replied with honesty asking us to find another swimming school instead of just ignoring us. I had to make the decision to find another better instructor for my son since he mentioned multiple times that he did not want to go back to Sarah's home. All is well in the end because my son had a private 1 hour session at our pool today on June 28th in which the female instructor who never pressured him and at the end of his lesson he was happier, braver, and confident to go under the water. We will be having a couple sessions with her twice a month and also signed him up with a better indoor swimming school in Diamond Bar where all transactions and scheduling is done through their website where it's easy to login. My son's schedule, confirmation, and invoice is emailed directly to me which are the fundamentals of a respectful, ethical, and professional business where both my son and I feel safe and ultimately happy with kinder, patient, and polite instructors. My two kids (6 and 4) have been taking lessons here for almost a year now. Our oldest is autistic and we really love how patient and accommodating they have been with him (something other places struggled to do) The one on one lessons allow them to adapt to each of my kids levels and needs. We have had multiple different instructors here, and honestly, they have all been great! And they package deals of two 20 minute sessions for siblings is a perfect fit for us. This is our 3rd year for swim lessons with Starfish Swim Academy. We started off with Ms. Sarah for the first two years and we are pleased with every swim lesson. I had two children receive swim lessons l. My youngest didn't like putting her face in the water and by the end of the her swim lessons she had her full face in the water.
