I loved the school. It gave me the high-paying job that I otherwise wouldn't have had today. It was…read morethe first school I went to where I realized that coasting on pure talent wasn't enough (and I had plenty of that, but I only need to watch how my cousins were doing in school to figure out much of a difference the environment makes). If it weren't for the sheer amount of peer pressure to do well and excel, I would have never bothered to work hard to excel and would probably be competing with high school graduates for burger-flipping jobs. I learned a really important concept while in high school: academic learning is an abstraction for success. While other reviewers complain that the narrow focus on academic excellence was technically useless, it prepared me to minimize-maximize my priorities for success. By re-abstracting the real, working world as a bunch of test-taking and BSing, it's helped me on my race towards the top. Mission is a great example of a Tiger Mother school, and I'd say that beating the excellence out of me worked wonders. It's a trial by fire, and I've suffered more than my share of breakdowns during my low points here, but overall, no pressure, no diamonds (Thanks Mr. Greene for the quote). If I weren't here, I'd just be dinosaur poop. Highlights: -Academic Challenge club (Without it, I would never be indirectly mentioned in the #National_Olympiads section in the Mission San Jose High School wiki) -Teachers: Chaney-Aiello, Geers, Geschke, Lindsey, Greene, Richards, Jaeger, Ishimine, especially Payette and Howell, you have all been the best teachers I know. Hopefully one day I will be able to pass on the light that you all have passed onto me. -Peers. I'm not going to name names, but without people to chase, I would never have started running in the first place. Let's keep trying to outcompete each in greatness in the years to come. I love a good race.

HA AH! you can yelp high schools now, amazing…read more Anyways I went to Mission San Jose High School since my freshmen year and graduated year of 06, this school is constantly known as one of the top high schools and ...it is true if you look at test results etc.. after all after the new SATs were out the first time it was given 3 out of the 4 people who got full score were from our school. This school is mainly composed of ... you guessed it! asians!! and no just like the famous Russel Peters said asians are not just Chinese, there are many koreas and indians as well. I had a great experience at this school but there are a few down falls. First the administration does not very closely monitor how teachers work, but then again I don't think other schools do as well, but some teachers are just ... I want to say F****** Retarded, no names now but my junior year English teacher Mr. _____(his last name was a color so take a wild guess) was a fruit basket with bananas on top, he thought he was the smartest man ever and his grading was extremely unfair. Also my sophomore year English teacher was the weirdest man ever, he spent one class telling the whole class how we're stupid and not going to succeed in life, interesting to say the least.. Also many other English teachers I didn't have I also heard some pretty bad things about. Actually now that I think about it only the English department had some issues, so MSJ needs to up their game in that area. Secondly, the cafeteria staff wasn't friendly at all, the asian lady who works there seems like she always has her pants pulled up too high or something, always rude to everyone and never said you're welcome when we said thank you. But I had some very good experiences as well, the leadership teacher/ activities coordinator was very good and fun to work with Mr. B! and our principal was pretty cool as well. The majority of the teachers were good but there are a few bad eggs that ruin the basket. It's too bad. FINALLY, I must finish saying, that the cupertino high schools yes LYNBOOK, Monta Vista, etc.. you guys need an update on test scores, I'm so sick of those chinese parents over there telling their kids that they high school is the best etc etc.. that was 10 years ago, check the scores now we're on a whole other level ahead of you guys, I'm so sick of being in college and having those cupertino kids think they are so much smarter than us, REALITY CHECK TIME!!!

They are incredibly kind and have a great sense of humor, which makes the classroom such a positive and welcoming place for the children. Together, they create an environment where every child feels seen and heard, and they build strong, meaningful connections with their students. Ms.Giri brings a nurturing and gentle approach, truly understanding that the children are still young kindergarteners. She pampers them with warmth and care, making them feel safe, comforted, and supported every day. Ms.Vohra, on the other hand, beautifully complements this by encouraging the children to become more responsible and independent. She ensures they learn to follow rules and classroom routines, helping them grow with confidence and structure. They are both attentive to the children's needs and address concerns promptly. We also have experienced their genuine care firsthand. On two occasions when my daughter misplaced her sweater, Ms.Giri went above and beyond to help--she even replaced it with a new one so my daughter wouldn't worry. Whenever my daughter has taken a sick day, she has always made it a point to personally call and check on her health, which means so much to us. They also ensured we receive the essential homework sheets on time so my daughter could keep up. These gestures truly touch our hearts and reflect the deep care and dedication they have for her students.

I went to four different high schools, and this one was my favorite one…read more I had some amazing teachers including Miss Paris, Mrs. Pavlecic, Coach Freitas, and Mr. Duer. Mrs. Freitas was my first PE coach when I transferred there, and two years later, I joined her gymnastics team. She was such an amazing coach! So sad she retired after my year! Mr. Duer was my pre-calculus and calculus teacher. He taught very very well! I was able to understand everything. His practice tests helped A LOT. He always had ramen ready for his favorite students... and can't forget about the doughnuts! I had some pretty bad teachers as well including my trigonometry teacher who got fired/left. One time she made me slap myself just because I missed a question on the test. She also yelled at me one time for giggling during study time. Looking back at those times, I kind of want to giggle since it was years ago! She was such a bad teacher haha. The administration changed when I attended. Bob Moran was our new principal when I was in my junior year. He is great, and even signed my yearbook:) The one thing I did not like about the new administration was this: if we were even a second late getting to class from lunch break, we would be forced to go to a one hour detention after school. I had to go one time, but it wasn't a big deal since I used that time to do my homework. I had a lot of fun on the swim team, badminton team, and gymnastics team. Mostly everyone was nice. School spirit was high. I loved how the school gave free doughnuts to students who wore school spirit clothing on a specific day of the week. Spirit week was a BLAST. Senior week was sooo special and amazing! I will never forget the Waterworld picnic and senior cruise. Can't forget to mention the senior trip to Disneyland! What a dream come true! The school does a great job with school dances, especially prom. Junior and senior year prom were both so beautiful. Junior year prom was at the SF City Hall! So gorgeous! The school definitely needs an update though! They need new lockers for everyone! Especially full lockers for every single student. Sucks how freshmen only get a tiny box. They should replace the portables with a brand new building for lockers or classes. Overall, I'm happy I went to this high school. I made unforgettable memories here. I met some amazing people and made friendships that lasted. Last year, I even went to my best friend's wedding. She was the first friend I made at WHS. I definitely recommend this high school. The open campus lunches are amazing.

Seems to be very male dominated and not a good environment for children. my daughters friends go here and they feel as if this private school is off putting and some teachers have no experience in teaching. play ground is really small, no room for kids to play and cafeteria even smaller. Great experience with smaller staff but head of school needs to change. very rude. they take all your money for no good outcome in your childs learning. cheap, rude and expensive they really get the parents with an experience they can't uphold. put your kids in a better school with better teachers, staff and curriculum and to the head of school 'wagner' do better.

The school offers Pre-Calculus in eighth…read moregrade for the people who are more skilled in math than other students. It also offers Economics which is a college level course in eighth grade the school is going to open a high school next year, but if you are interested in sending your kid here next year, read this review before you think about anything. First of all, this year, we had a temporary campus for a new campus that was still in construction. The quality was terrible. We could hear the construction from inside and when we were outside we were exposed to the dust that came from the construction it was a nightmare we also had to eat our lunch outside in the sun although they had picnic tables in PE was outside in the grass they gave many people many allergic reactions. And the grass had potholes. Many, many potholes. They have divided the MPR into five classrooms and it was really noisy. It was hard for any students there to focus at all. We were all desperately waiting for the new campus. Oh, and if you think that's bad enough, that was only this year. Last year, three teachers left the school midway two of them fired. And when they had to fire the first teacher they blamed it on the students at the school, even though they specified that they did not want the teacher fired, but they just wanted her to change her teaching habits in a way that would suit all of the students at the school. I mean, are the students not allowed to voice their concerns about the school and make it a better environment for the new students? And they're paying money to go to the school. Which brings me to my next point, the tuition. The year that the school opened, the tuition was twenty four thousand dollars. The tuition kept on increasing over the years, from twenty four thousand dollars to twenty five thousand dollars to twenty six thousand dollars and now twenty seven thousand dollars. The tuition has just been skyrocketing since the school opened. But there are upsides. And when I say upsides, I mean a lot of upsides. First of all, there are only 150 kids at the upper school. That gives teachers a lot more time to communicate with the students at the school and help them with any concepts that they do not understand. Teachers also have office hours after school to help students with any questions they may have. The teachers want the students to learn, and that's what makes this environment important. Everyone works together like one big happy family. The friendships that students make here are everlasting. If you make a friend one year, that friend will never leave your side and will always have your back. The students have such great memories of their past years, and they reminisce one their past experiences at the school. Overall, I would recommend the school for people who are committed to academics and don't care much about extracurricular activities. As BASIS grows there are more and more extracurricular activities that are emerging such as cross country basketball, volleyball, soccer, and flag football, as well as clubs that are offered by the school. Thanks for reading! Edit: After four amazing years, I have decided to transfer to another high school.

From the moment he started at MSF, we saw a remarkable difference. He was genuinely happy each day and looked forward to his "working time" at school. Ms. Angeline has a deep respect for each child as an individual. She nurtured our son's growth both academically and personally, helping him gain confidence in expressing his needs and tailoring projects to match his interests and developmental needs. The environment she created in the Evergreen B class was warm, engaging, and thoughtfully structured. Because of the incredible experience our son had, we decided to enroll our daughter at MSF as well. She joined Ms. June's class and also had a wonderful time. Coming from a full Chinese-speaking environment, the transition to an English-speaking classroom could have been challenging--but Ms. June, being bilingual, provided the perfect support. Our daughter was very shy at first, but Ms. June thoughtfully paired her with older, bilingual classmates and helped her adjust with care and patience. In less than half a year, school became her favorite place to be. We especially appreciated the school's community spirit and special events, such as International Week and Sharing Night, which brought families together and created lasting memories.

My main concern was with his teacher. Over two years, I didn't see meaningful effort to teach or support my son. Instead, the feedback I received was that "your child is not suited for Montessori" -- which felt less like a thoughtful assessment and more like a way to avoid working with him. A Montessori environment is supposed to meet a child where they are; that wasn't our experience. I also found the administrative side of the school to be inflexible in a way that didn't feel parent-friendly. On one occasion in two years, I was ~1 minute late at pickup due to traffic and was charged a late fee. A one-time delay being treated the same as a chronic issue tells you something about the culture. Other parents may have had a different experience, and I'm sure some children thrive here. Ours did not, and I wanted to share an honest account for parents who are weighing this school.
