This is the line to get into the field for the graduation!
    Edna G.

As a parent of two high school students, I really like this school. It's not perfect by all means but they offer more than other high schools do. Well, they have over 4k students, @ 1k per class and are well funded as its the only high school in the city and in between two big cities!! They are near a police station and library across the school. The HE campus is like a college and I even get lost. 0_o. The kids may think differently about the school but this school has everything. They have the usual nerds, druggies and trouble makers but what school doesn't have them?! They have their own football, track field, swimming pool, baseball field and tennis courts. They even have two theater space for performances. Kennedy park with a community center is right next door as well. My daughters want to be nurses supposedly so there is even a nursing class they took before taking this in college. They have a forensic class or mechanics class...I wish I had that in high school!? They have an online site for each grade and useful information needed for students and parents. They have auto-generated phone calls for news about the school and if the kids are absent! How time flies?! I love that feature but if you have a lot of kids, it's repeated multiple times! Argh... My kids are lucky to go to this school as I came from a small private school and would have loved to go here as I would have wanted to try so many different activities. The teachers have been great so far... I recommend this school totally!!

Per my child, most of the students are friendly and from good educational families. We are giving 3 stars for class teachers and their teaching skills. But there are several negatives about this school. Even though all parents knows about it we can't do nothing. We are not able to switch to another school as there are no better options at this location. Negatives: 1. They raise their monthly fees every year but they don't improve any quality to their services. My kid always complains about spider webs in the bathrooms and it's always very dirty. So, he refuses go to bathroom and holds for whole day. 2. No extra curricular activities like sports tournaments like running, soccer, basketball, table tennis or any competitive events for building children's physical and mental strengths. 3. No fun events; students should have singing and dancing, cultural events, talent show, etc. 4. No sports equipments provided to students; they could have provided at least these basic sports equipments: PingPong tables, chess boards, soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, etc. So, kids can have fun on recess time or after school time. We hope school administration will take necessary action work on it to improve.

Their system has heavy restrictions on who can take what classes; the teachers there are incredibly tough, and some are to the core, rude. Horrible infrastructure there as well, and the school lunch is so trash. I went here for 9th and 10th grade, and I did not like a single bit of my time there. The assistant principal back then (Mrs. Pelayo and Mrs. Sharma are very tough and rude). Some of the students here are mean, and they clown you. As alumni I have every right to do so. They also made my friend have a panic attack. This is unacceptable behaviour from high school staff who should be looking out for the children. For the sake of everyone's wellbeing they should be fired!

I believe this school and Irvington both share the same Architecture since both are done in Mayan-Revival style. I really like the simplified geometric details on the front of the school that still make it read as a reimagined Maya. I can imagine the process they went through to distill the source into the most pure and clean representation. The gym looked interesting as well with jade tile work and gold trim but we were asked to leave before getting closer. Classrooms constructed w/ "post and beam". Ceilings must look amazing and higher than modern ceilings but its probably hot in summer. Great place for photography and exploring after hours.

They…read moreblatantly make the children they're directing their attention to feel like a problem or issue. The office staff prominently make it very hard to understand instructions and expect you to know everything the first time you're directed to do something. Another thing is that teachers need to stop letting other students pass inappropriate jokes or offensive speech just because it entertains them. Also, experiences with the counselors would feel different than you'd typically imagine it, regarding the way they perceive your problem or feelings. Not sure on how the counselors helped other students but it probably varies, I did not receive any help at all myself. Lastly, this is difficult to improve, but the lunch line situation is always horrible, no matter what they integrate. Hearing things you don't want to hear is still verbal harassment if it makes you uncomfortable. Minor roughhousing is pretty odd but people would do it in private. Next year is my final year here and I'd hope for it to be more pleasant than the last two. I'm sure there's many other issues but I don't have any coming to mind at the moment. It feels empty in the morning and quite pathetic on special event days.

Within our first few weeks after transferring, my older high school brother was called the N-word by a fellow student. As middle schoolers, my other brother and I had to witness that, while constantly feeling a heavy, quiet hostility from parents who didn't want us to be friends with their kids just because we were among the few Black faces in the room. The students were mostly passive, but the constant microaggressions about my hair and the casual, stereotype-driven biases made it exhausting to just exist there. After George Floyd's murder, the school put on a performance of having conversations about American racism, but it felt empty--they did absolutely nothing to actually protect or support the few Black students they already had. I wouldn't wish the loneliness and anxiety of my time there on anyone. I am profoundly grateful to the few staff members who genuinely cared and tried to protect us after my brother was called a slur. But I fear nothing has truly changed, and I refuse to stay silent while another Black or minority student risks going through the same pain we did. I expect a response to this review, and I am entirely open to a direct dialogue with the superintendent to discuss how the school actually plans to fix this culture.
