OMG!! I love this school so much. Great place to go to if you want your transition to college, acceptances to good colleges, great high school experience, or even your overall life to turn around. The counselors here are very friendly, the system here is so flexible, and the teachers here are very nice and lenient with grading. I transferred into this school 2nd week of junior year and graduated from here in 2025. Ron Polk, Mrs. Dutra, Ms. Gutierrez, and Mr. Quintana are the best staff here. There are great programs you can enroll in, like ICL, Forensics, ROP, Marketing & Management, and stuff. If you are chill, join clubs and extracurriculars, you can easily make lots of friends. I recommend you join Forensics. It's the speech and debate program here at Logan, and Mr.Kurup, the director of it, is the best! If you live in north Fremont, like near Ardenwood or Northgate, Logan isn't that far. NHUSD is very flexible about inter-district transfers. Just avoid hanging out with the gangsters, and even classes with certain teachers like Mrs. Sekar and Mr. Farzad. Last thing, before I forget, the Union City Library is right across the street. Moreover, there's also Bart and hella good food in the plaza across Meyers Dr. There's McD, Suju's, Taco Bell, Boba places, and even some Chinese food. As a parent of two high school students, I really like this school. It's not perfect by all means but they offer more than other high schools do. Well, they have over 4k students, @ 1k per class and are well funded as its the only high school in the city and in between two big cities!! They are near a police station and library across the school. The HE campus is like a college and I even get lost. 0_o. The kids may think differently about the school but this school has everything. They have the usual nerds, druggies and trouble makers but what school doesn't have them?! They have their own football, track field, swimming pool, baseball field and tennis courts. They even have two theater space for performances. Kennedy park with a community center is right next door as well. My daughters want to be nurses supposedly so there is even a nursing class they took before taking this in college. They have a forensic class or mechanics class...I wish I had that in high school!? They have an online site for each grade and useful information needed for students and parents. They have auto-generated phone calls for news about the school and if the kids are absent! How time flies?! I love that feature but if you have a lot of kids, it's repeated multiple times! Argh... My kids are lucky to go to this school as I came from a small private school and would have loved to go here as I would have wanted to try so many different activities. Class of 2009!!! I went here all 4 years and had an amazing high school career. TIP#1: I hope no one takes this the wrong way, but it's a lot less competitive if you attend Logan, compared to like Mission San Jose and other schools nearby. I only took like 4 or so AP classes, some honors, did around 200 community service hours, had extracurricular activities, and average SAT and ACT scores, but I was able to get into UC Davis. If I attended high school anywhere else, I don't think I would've stood a chance. TIP#2: It takes about 7 minutes to get from one end of the campus to the other end. Don't let those tardy points add up. I liked being teacher's pet, hahaha. TIP#3: Do a sport and/or join a club. Stay active! This (and college) is the prime time time to meet people! During my junior year, I gained a whole new group of friends, and 6 years later we are still amazing friends. TIP#4: Take American Sign Language and Tripping (a class I wish I took)! TIP#5: Take free classes at a community college to get ahead! If you're not enjoying high school, don't fret! This high school has the worst administrative staff. My brother went to his counselor Renee Dutra to seek advise about joining the United States Air Force and received zero help! In face, he was completely discouraged. Mrs. Dutra questioned why he wanted to join. She discouraged him, and advised him that the military would "rot his mind." She made it seem as if it is the worst idea in the world. I completely respect Mrs. Dutra's opinion, however I wanted to speak to the Principal which I called several times. I never received a call back. No message, no letter, no email. I left my name with the secretary but apparently this is not something they are concerned about. I ask the school counselors, why would you discourage a young man from join and serving his country? You might not agree with the military's role in our country but if a young man has a goal in mind, aren't you in a role to support their decision? Such an awesome time here at Logan! (c/o 2013) I definitely enjoyed every minute here. I entered in beginning of freshmen year (coming from a private school) and quickly made friends. Everyone was so inviting during the whole four years and I am so glad I took advantage of all the opportunities and help Logan offered. (Thanks Ms. Hart and HOUSE 3 staff [esp. Ms. Montes!] for all the help for college). The academics and extra-curriculars are superb! The AP Curriculum is spot-on. Logan offered SO MUCH AP classes that I couldn't pass up; these were classes that I actually loved! (AP Physics [Ms. Chuong], Bio [Ms. Noche!] , Stats [Baumback!], Calc BC [Prucha-jedi master], Eng. Lang [Ireland!] and many more that I took, but these classes were the ones that I loved!) I was also part of the Forensics team [Mr. Lindsey is the MOST INSPIRATIONAL & AMAZING person I know] and did Leadership. Logan helped me to expand my horizons and I don't regret a single thing. However, Logan is pretty ghetto and there are the folks who just don't like school and like to cause trouble. There are kids who will intimidate you and just make you feel down, But there are A LOT of the nice and academic-minded people who will become your friends (and they will help you through AP classes haha!) My friends were very smart and highly talented; their ambition and love for learning has rubbed off on me, and this is how my mindset is now. The diversity of this school is just mind-blowing and take advantage of everything Logan offers. 1) Become friends with the staff and administration - they write really good Letters of Rec. 2) Take AP classes that you love and will do well in - they are hard and challenging, but if you love it, it'll be a little easier. 3) Get involved in school - this is a great way to make friends and expand your horizons. 4) Just be yourself - at a school this big, it may be hard to find yourself and what you want to do, but just keep true to yourself and everything will work out in the end. 5) Keep those friends throughout high school and college - they may someday be a high-tier CEO and you need those connections haha! JLHS alum c/o 2012 :-) Okay, super weird that you can leave reviews for your high school... But I'm gonna do it anyways. It's a big school, with a big campus, with a lot of students from a number of backgrounds. The nice thing is, there is no pressure to succeed on this campus -- students do what they want to do and engage with classes that interest them. This can be kind of bad for kids that don't have a desire to be successful academically, but it is great for the academically-minded student that wants to explore all of his or her options. There are great extracurricular programs and even curriculum-based programs funded by ROP. I was a part of the Electronic Media Productions Academy, where we got hands-on experience with Final Cut Pro and news production (with a real set on campus and a televised morning news announcement show that the senior class ran). They also offered classes that engaged in vocational training (EMT training, fire fighting, police training, nursing, auto shop, photography, etc). The track and field team, marching band, and speech & debate teams are all very successful and well known. Join Interact, Key Club, or Leo Club -- it's a good thing to do and you meet a lot of great people. The campus is big and when I was leaving, teacher-to-student ratios were getting pretty bad (we were running out of seats). Since then, I've heard it has gotten a lot better with increased funding from a grant they received. The school is a good mix of academics and extracurriculars, providing you with a pretty good education (should you have it in you to pursue it) along with great vocational training programs. I met a lot of different types of people and was exposed to so many cool cultures and customs. I definitely feel like going to Logan helped mold me into a well-rounded and open minded individual. It's almost its own little diversity bubble, and when I stepped out of it into my predominantly white college it was a little bit of a shock. read more

This might be the best high school ever in HISTORY. I have the pleasure of being a PROUD Alumni of the illustrious, James Logan High School. this school by far taught me so much besides academics. This school exposes students to so many cultures and backgrounds, making you aware and open-minded about differences in cultures. The athletic program here has always been outstanding. The coaches are always there to guide you and mentor you into being the best you can be both athletically and academically. I do not know anyone who went here and isn't proud of this school. Because Logan is the ONLY high school in the city, it has a lot of funding and is able to provide many additional programs and things that other schools can't afford to offer. I wish I lived in the Bay Area still in order to send my children here! I would love for them to attend my Alma Mater! read more

Fights weren't too common. Class sizes were manageable. It was chill. Sure, things could've been better, but things were a lot simpler back in 2001. Shoot, I think I had a Nokia 5190 back then, if anyone even remembers that phone. I didn't go to school here, but my long-time friend had invited me to a mini-concert being held here in the cafeteria. I said sure why not and decided to go, since I hadn't seen her in a really long time. I gotta say, it was pretty difficult to find the cafeteria. They don't have any direction signs as far as I could see, and we had to ask a teacher that works there to lead us to the cafeteria. And that was when it was daylight out... When the concert was over and we were getting ready to leave, it was night time and we had an even harder time getting back to our car because we couldn't see anything! They didn't have any lights in the hallways or out by the softball field where we had parked, and it was so hard to get back to our car. I did think the cafeteria was pretty nice though. We had a great time at the concert. read more

I am a former student from James Logan High School. If nothing changes after my class year(2019), I swear this school will be one of the worst in the county soon. Honestly, the last 2 years at this school have been hell. The superintendents of the district fail to accommodate students in proper food, sanitation, and funding for education. The classrooms are littered with cockroaches which hide away in the morning within nooks and cracks within the rooms(which are conveniently hidden by furniture), half the bathrooms do not have soap, the toilets and stalls are scratched and marked with permanent markers, there is fecal matter on the ceiling and walls sometimes, and there is a lack of employed custodians to manage all of these detriments. The meals are the most overpriced cafeteria food I have ever had(4$), and have a minimal nutritional value to them, and some of the fruit I've had here was either old or not even ripe. Yet most importantly, the district fails to fund the teachers a fair amount for their services, which jeopardizes a high school experience and education to the students. On a side note, I remember the district coercing James Logan students to come to school during the two weeks during the paradise fires where the air quality was the worst the Bay Area has seen. This, despite all other schools and colleges in the surrounding area allowing their students to stay home with no penalty. Only after harsh debates had the district allowed a 1 day break from the detrimental air quality. I love the teachers and I love the student community at this school. Yet as a former student, the district and the administration of this school seems to have undermined the significance of these teachers and students. In my humble opinion, I recommend enrolling your children to a different high school. read more

I am blessed and honored to have attended and graduated from this high school. First off, CLASS OF 2009! WOOT. 1. Teachers. After attending a university, I honestly miss the personal attention I get from a high school class room setting. Although these teachers have about ~40-45 students in their class for at least 4-6 periods in a day, THEY KNOW WHO YOU ARE. I've built so many memorable moments with these amazing teachers, I cannot thank them enough for supporting me (even though I wasn't that great of a student), loving me (even though I sort of troublesome.), and honestly...caring for me. SHOUTOUT TO : MR.LINDSEY (for making the forensics team possible! THE BEST PROGRAM OFFERED AT LOGAN), CAMPBELL, MRS. PEREZ (the sign language teacher), MISS CHUANG (AP PHYSICS), MR. BAUMBACK (AP STATS), MR. JOHNSON (CHEM), MRS. GARCIA (AP ENGLISH), MRS. LAMBARDI (AP US HISTORY), MR. USTICK (AP WORLD HISTORY) & so many more, but the teachers that I've called out...I graduated like four years ago, and I still remember how BIG OF AN IMPACT these WONDERFUL teachers have on me. If they ever see this, I MISS YOU ALL VERY MUCH! ** These teachers do put an enormous amount of effort to help out their students. I know when I was struggling through my classes, many of these teachers were more than willing to stay after school to tutor me OR even use their personal LUNCH period to tutor me while they're eating. These teachers really go all out in helping their students be as successful as possible. Not only did these teachers offer to support me, they also challenged me and helped me grow into a more suitable candidate for a University. Of course, it is up to the student to rise to these challenges and also know how to ask for support. 2. Campus. When I left, they were doing some remodeling...it's probably done now, but I don't exactly stroll around this campus lol since I have no reason to...ANYWHO, yes the campus is HUGE. But it takes no longer than 5 minutes to reach from one end of the campus to the other...EVEN WHEN IT'S CROWDED. There are many places you can hang out during lunch...I can't even name them all lol anywho, I have many, many memories at this campus and I think the atmosphere is great. 3. Yes. It is the only high school in Union City. And I think this is AWESOME. Everyone in your city attends this school. WHAT AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY AND COMMUNITY! I'm still in awe, but I think this is one of the best qualities at this school...having everyone in this community attending the same school...and because it's so huge...it's so diverse...and I'd like to think that a lot of people grew to be more open minded while attending Logan...OF COURSE, there are still a handful of those ignorant, narrow-minded individuals...but those exist everywhere. 4. PROGRAMS. This school has sign language. How flippin awesome is that. Mind you, the teacher for the class is AWESOME. She's so LOVING and CARING. This school is ranked high for their sports (at least for football they are lol). LOGAN BAND & LOGAN FORENSICS TEAM ARE SUPERRRRR BALLER. NO OTHER SCHOOL IN THE TRI CITY HAS A BETTER SPEECH AND DEBATE TEAM OR BAND THAN US. Don't even try to argue with that. And what makes these two AMAZING programs so awesome IS BECAUSE OF IT'S DIVERSITY. **But honest :: The speech and debate team at LOGAN is one of the top teams IN THE NATION. I was on the team for four years and honesty, you grow SO MUCH with this team. 1. it becomes apart of you and everyone on the team is your family. 2. you learn how to be more professional (GUARANTEE, of course you have to put the effort in too) 3. IT IS A BLESSING to be able to be on the team and constantly challenge yourself. 4. GREAT CONNECTIONS, you meet so many intelligent people all over the nation. 5. RESOURCES. This school has everything. The student just needs to ask & take advantage of it. Overall, my educational experience at this school was fantastic. Though, I have to complain about the office ladies that work in the main office. They're sort of rude. I visited the campus because I needed to do some guardian paperwork for my little brother (whose attending the school now), and 1. they were rude fuck, no eye contact, they just starred at their computer screen when I was asking them a question & when answering, they answered with the "why are you so stupid" tone. 2. Apparently they give attitude to the students here, because one of the ladies in the office thought I was a student and she talked down to me until I told her I was a guardian of a student attending the school...I'm not a student there now THEN she apologizes and changes her rude tone of voice. But yeah, that's my only complaint, along with some high school drama that really has nothing to do with my educational experience there. but if you're a parent reading this and you're worried that your student might not have the best education here...I'm just going to tell you, I would chose this high school over any Mission High any day. read more

I have to give this school credit for working with many students, approximately 1000 students per class (freshman, sophomore, etc.) When reading the other reviews you'll notice that there is a lot of gang violence, fights, etc. But honestly, the school is pretty secure - with every public school system it depends on the people you choose to associate yourself with. James Logan High School should not be looked at all negativity. Look at at the positives JLHS has: an outstanding color guard and band squad that has been invited to the rose parade in Pasadena, thanksgiving parade in New Work, and even the 2008 Olympics in China. There are students from the James Logan Forensics team that have appeared on Opera to show off their talent in speech and debate. The Marketing and Management Academy is a model for other business groups within California. Also, the leadership class is responsible for schools allowing cell phone usage during break hours. They actually went to the Sacramento and fought for their rights. Yes, the school is a little over crowded, though, they have many activities that allow students to stay out of trouble. Logan has snowboarding clubs that actually take a trip to the snow, every ethnic group has a club, they even have a knitting club. Logan has a great Best Buddies Program that works with the well developed Special Education Department. All this information is factual and have been placed on the news, so with all this good publicity, I think it counts for something +3 stars. read more

graduated here back in 15 years ago on the dean's list with a 3.8 GPA thinking i'd be smart in the UC system.. boy was i wrong. this didn't prepare me well for college at all. the faculty was some-what nice but the system was faulted...i regretted it when my parents gave me the chance to go to Moreau or Mission San Jose High School and i said no. sometimes parents do know best. I have no complaints about this school, I graduated in 2010. My 4 years was amazing, anyone who says otherwise has way too high expectations of high school lol. I loved it here and I literally walked to school since I lived so close so no traffic for me. The only complaint I had was my junior year English teacher Mrs. Ramirez, she literally was so rude to me. One time she wrote a referral for me because I was wearing a tank top that showed a little too much cleavage when it didn't. Lol wtf? My mom was super pissed at that and she gave me detention for accusing me of cheating when I clearly didn't. Let her ass go Logan. First of all, I love this school it's the best school I've ever been too. Out of all the schools i've transfered to JLHS is the best one so far. I've met the realest teachers here and the fact that people say that the teachers cant teach makes me sick. They have 40+ in almost every class so they can't give every student their own attention, but they do teach to where you can understand the info. I have been in classes where some students just talk and dont pay attention and then half way through the year they get their semester grades and decide they need to get their grades up and when they actually try it's hard because they lack the info they need because they weren't paying attention for the first semester, and usually second semester is suppose to be easier but they dont see it that way. if anything it's not the teachers fault its the student's fault. If you think it's hard to translate complicated notes into your own words just to understand it then I don't think you'd wanna go to college. Anyways, the classes are great. they have a variety of electives to offer and a lot of ROP classes that prepare you for the career you want. If you're looking for a football, baseball, basketball, soccer, etc. scholarship Logan is one of the few schools in the Bay Area that actually gets scouts. I know people who are barely in their Sophomore year and already have scouts from UC Berkely, UCSF, UCLA, etc. looking at them for their skills. They have a lot of clubs and other extra curricular activities. The best thing to do is join and do as much as you can, and if you ever become a club leader it can look really good on your resume when you apply for college. AP and honors classes are abundant and also good on your transcript if you think you can get an A. Some college executives will like the way your grades LOOK and not the quality of your classes, but they will keep you in mind if you can pull off having an A in an AP/Honors class. The school has gang members, but then again what school doesn't. They have a dress code that they don't really enforce, but it's there. They have a police officer on duty at all times and they have their own security people to stop fights, make sure students aren't cutting school, make sure they don't do drugs, and make sure no one comes in the school without an authorized visitors pass. here are some things you can do to survive a whole school year at Logan: 1) Don't get associated with the wrong people. Just because they're cool or fun to be around doesn't mean you should be like them or let them influence you to do things. Look at their grades and see if their popularity is working out for them 2) When you're taking notes, make you're own notes by summarizing the notes that are given to you. It's quicker and you understand it better because it's in your own words. 3) Always stay on your teacher's good side. when you ask questions make sure it's not a stupid one because it will tick them off. just in case you dont know what a stupid question is it's a question that's been asked after someone already told you the answer to it. Pay attention and participate. oh yeah and the teacher is "always right" so dont argue. 4) Be organized. know where you're stuff is and dont have all of your papers wrinkled. some teachers won't take your work if it's folded or wrinkled so look out for that. 5) Manage your time, don't spend too much time on one thing there's a time for everything and it's usually not all the time. it will be the best thing you can do as far as staying on your teachers' good side. it gives you more time to do other things that need to be done. read more
