The Goddard School of Monroe, Connecticut is the absolute gold standard in early childhood…read moreeducation. Both of my children (ages 18 mos. and 4 years) are currently enrolled. The teachers and assistants at the school are superb. In as little as two weeks, my preschooler's vocabulary has improved tenfold and he is now completely engaged in learning. It is apparent that the teachers here give a lot of thought to and take great pride in creating their lesson plans. As for my toddler, the individualized attention he receives here has greatly improved his cognitive and fine motor skills. Each day, parents receive a report that includes daily activities such as personal care (meals, naps, etc.), curriculum, and photos. This is very special for parents as it keeps us completely connected during the work day. Administratively, the school is run flawlessly. The Directors are professional, courteous and responsive to the needs of the children and concerns of parents. My only wish is that The Goddard School went beyond Pre-K! The level of care, compassion, individualized attention and age appropriate curriculum at Goddard Monroe is truly impressive and so appreciated by our family. We came to Goddard from another highly regarded center nearby, and I am so grateful we did. It's apparent to me that the teachers like what they are doing, and that transfers to how they interact with the kids. Both of our boys grew more fond of and attached to their teachers at Goddard in 2 weeks than they did in the previous year at their old school. The daily updates, pictures and reports are a nice way to feel connected to the kids during the day. It gives us great info to be able to engage our kids in conversation about their day. Along with the teachers, the Directors are amazing as well. They are accessible and have truly taken the time to get to know the kids. They also have their own kids in the program, which speaks volumes. Overall, I cannot recommend Goddard enough and we are so grateful to have found such amazing people to care for our children.

My high school years were the best of my life and I miss the community so so so much. This school gave me the foundation I needed to succeed in the world and I think I'm doing pretty darn well. The teachers were (and still are) into their students. They wanted us to be the best we could and never hesitated to stay after school to help us. I'm tearing up thinking about it. I could go on and on, but let me cut it short with this: if I ever have daughters, I'm seriously considering moving back to Connecticut.

Lauralton Hall has great teachers, but I would not say the same regarding the rest of the…read moreadministration including the Head of School. They have ruined the senior year of girls graduating in 2018 by putting their current financial crisis on them. They are too young to suffer such a burden. Instead of enjoying their senior year, they have had to worry that unless the school raises 2.25 million immediately for a near term cash crisis, that terrible things such as possible school closure might occur.

I can…read moreonly speak for the time I attended, so as of the year 2001, Bunnell was prettier, and had a better student population than Stratford High, socioeconomically speaking. The school property was clean and well maintained. Most of the classrooms were large in size, and usually had a full-class. The laboratories and facilities were very good and well taken care of. The teachers, for the most part, were excellent. I don't have any complaints about any of them! PLUS, the "Bulldogs" (Bunnell) always kicked the "Red Devils" (Stratford H.) butt!

When I graduated from Bunnell it was a beautiful new building in the best 60s style. When I went…read morethere again in the early 90s for an evening ballroom dancing class, all the glass in the front entrance had been replaced with black plywood. And there had been a lot of glass. More black plywood was in the gym. A sign high on the gym wall announced that mooning the cheerleaders was prohibited, as was giving them the finger and cursing them. This was for the benefit of those who might have thought it was OK. When I went there again 10 years ago, the front entrance was sealed. The front office had been modified by adding a small door and stairs, and visitors entered there. After entering, visitors walked a narrow pathway with plexiglass walls, so they could be observed before gaining admittance. A police car was parked outside, right in front. I imagine police are on duty there full time these days. Driving through the parking lot, now trimmed in weeds, was no fun. It had been filled with speed bumps. Is it even possible to plow it in the winter? I had gone there to inquire about class records, to be used in planning a class reunion. They told me there were no records. Were they telling the truth, or were they just flipping me off? I don't know. I admit it sounded unlikely. Can I blame the school for reflecting the dismal societal changes that have taken place since I was a student there? I don't think so. It's just a building, after all. I must have grown up in a golden age. I had no idea what was in store.

I don't understand how the Diocese of Bridgeport hasn't removed Chris and Scott from their positions in this school. It's unfortunate that a school with a name like "Notre Dame" doesn't live up to the expectations a name like that comes with. With a vice principal who was forced to take an indefinite leave of absence from his previous job under suspicious circumstances, and a principal who cares about nothing but power and his own personal agenda, this school really could do better. To all the parents out there looking at high schools for your children, send them to Saint Joe's, Notre Dame West Haven, Lauralton Hall, Fairfield Prep, or just public school. Honestly, sending them anywhere is better than this school. Unless you want your children to be treated like they're nothing and disrespected in every way possible I urge you to find a better school. Bishop Caggiano, if you're reading this, I beg of you, remove Christopher Cipriano and put in his place someone who truly has the students faith and well-being in mind.
