Hoppies is a great little slice Americana. I'm going to spend most of the time in this review, talking about their baklava. It is home made, and the piece size is gargantuan! We got a lot of food, a lemonade, a coffee, two burgers, pancakes, and a bagel. There was animal hair on the floor. There was dust on the napkin container. There was dirt on the napkin container. The coffee mug looked like it hadn't been washed in 50 years. The cheese sauce on our fries was disgusting, I don't mean bad, I mean ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. All of our fries had no salt, and were barely fried. (Horribly, I should mention) There was MOLD ON MY BURGER. I ate one bite, and realized. I almost puked. Their lemonade was pretty good, but it tasted too sweet, to the point of seeming like something had gone bad. There was scum / residue or something on the spoon, absolutely disgusting. It was actually horrifying. I find it hard to believe they have a license to sell food, and if they do, I think it should be revoked. 0/100. Never coming here again. In short, don't come here unless you love scummy restaurants that serve mold on their food; and I don't think many people are into that. read more

The place suffers from zero competition. Service is fine but the food and the pricing of that food is not good. I did not get the feel the places cares about the food at all. Had a "special" brisket (or pastrami or corned beef - don't really remember) on a roll sandwich. So, a sandwich by itself cost $10 and a sandwich with two sides and corned bread cost $14. Sounds somewhat reasonable so far. Unfortunately, I'm used to appropriate sandwich sizes for these level of prices. The size of that roll was a half the size I'm used to - normal NYC roll. There were several slices of brisket - around 25% of what I expected for $10. And that is it. Nothing else. No mayo, no Russian dressing... nothing. The two sides were just fine, the corn bread was too crumbly. Also, ordered buffalo chicken wrap. Well, whatever (and, again, not much) was inside the wrap was soaked in blue cheese dressing. Soaked. The wrap was in reality a blue cheese wrap. Nasty. There were some other issues with the food but whatever I wrote I hope gives the potential customers a warning as to what to expect. read more

We have decided when we're up here from now on we will just go out for breakfast. Love this place. I might be biased because I've been going here since I was little, but I never visit Oxford without stopping here. It completes the trip for me. You can sit up at the counter and the staff are all friendly, making your food where you can see everything. There's a jukebox and they offer huge baked goods like cookies and brownies. They have an option where you can get 2 different panini halves to try more than one sandwich at once. The Reuben is good! The ice cream is just your average stuff, but I always get the peanut butter lover's sundae. Across the street is Lafayette Park, where you can sit on benches around a fountain and enjoy your treats. I'm so glad this place continues on! It's adorable. We hadn't been in a few years, it's about a 35 minute drive from home - but a pretty drive, so worth it. They serve a wide variety of Perry's ice cream as well as soft serve and make great sundaes. Yesterday I got a delicious taco salad and my husband got a fried fish sandwich that was a generous filet, nice and golden crisp and sweet potato fries. Perhaps the biggest surprise was the lemon berry Marscapone cake that I had... holy yum, seriously one of the best pieces of cake I've had in ages!! I'm still thinking of it today and actually think I'll need some more very soon lol... My son agreed. Our server was sweet and attentive, the food came out in a timely fashion. This is a neat theme restaurant that resembles a 50's soda fountain. The food is pretty decent and they appear to have that homemade style touch. The prices are also pretty decent and they don't charge you an arm and a leg for things. If I could give this place 3 1/2 Stars I would but its just not to the 4 star level. read more

We stopped in for lunch today. We were greeted by the nicest waitress, she is here from Bulgaria going to school. She made the experience that much better with her bubbly, friendly personality. We both had the Vermont Style Chicken Salad Sandwich (chicken, dried cranberries, onion, celery topped with red onions lettuce and tomato) on rye. Our order was filled quickly, the sandwich was delicious and the fries were nice and crispy. They have specials like meatloaf (Wednesday) and fish fry (Friday) that I can't wait to try. They have menu selections for vegetarians and a great selection of not your average menu items. They also have lots of ice cream flavors served in a cone, sundae or shake, but we were too full to try any. The prices are reasonable as well, a must stop on your foodie list. read more
