Cute seasonal ice cream spot in Ithaca! Located in downtown- the line can get pretty long in the evenings- even on weekdays. Cash only so be prepared. I am partial to soft serve but have tried both their hard icecream and soft serve. I prefer their soft serve but wish they had more flavors. I tried the classic chocolate twist and the two berry twist soft serves. In the two berry twist, I didn't like the pink flavor- it was too icy and more like a sorbet/dole whip than true soft serve. CASH ONLY! I loved this place. Their soft serve was really great, and they also offer hard ice cream with vegan options, plus a gluten free and vegan cookies and cream. I got the chocolate soft serve with rainbow sprinkles and it was the perfect sweet treat. If you only want a little something, you can get a kids size like I did, but they also have small, medium, and large sizes too. One thing to know is that it is cash only. If you do not have cash, they may offer an IOU like they did for us. There is an ATM next door, but I had issues with it not accepting my card, and my friends had the same problem, so I ended up paying in quarters. They were very kind and patient about it though. The line can get pretty long, but it moves quickly, so it is not a bad wait at all. It would be nice if there was more seating, especially since so many people come here, but overall it is still a really great stop for ice cream. read more

Sweet Melissa's Ice Cream Ithaca, NY We tried their Vegan ice cream based on the recommendation of someone we trusted. We got 2 scoops vegan toasted coconut and vegan gluten-free blonde cookies & cream ice cream. At this time they are "cash only." Both of their Vegan ice creams are coconut milk based and didn't have much flavor. The toasted coconut had more than the blonde cookies and cream. They also had a somewhat rubbery texture, more like melted mozzarella cheese than what one would anticipate from ice cream. It's outdoor seating only. There's no street visible signage to indicate this business, yet despite that there is a constant line of customers, most likely for their dairy based ice creams and other threats. For us as Vegans, I would not go back except to sometime in the future to give them a second chance. It just wasn't that good. read more

Cute corner shop with amazing soft serve and hard ice cream! I absolutely love this place and went 3 times in the past 6 days. They have so many flavors and limited seasonal ones too! The staff are super friendly and service is very fast as well. My favorite is the classic Vanilla Soft Serve. It the smoothest soft serve I've ever had in my life and extremely creamy and not overly sweet. I've also tried their hard flavors (a lot of these ones are seasonal): Peppermint chocolate chip, Blueberry with Oreos, and Hannah's House (cherry chocolate chip). The peppermint had pronounced mint flavor but not as creamy. On the other hand, the Blueberry w/ oreos was verrrry smooth with a strong blueberry flavor. I kinda wish there was more balance between the blueberry and Oreos, but overall still amazing. The cherry chocolate chip was also very smooth and creamy. The cherry flavor was not overpowering/super artificial but would like many more chocolate chips to balance out the sweetness and to give a textural component. My favorite ice cream shop in the finger lakes area and I take my ice cream seriously! The owners are great people who take such pride in making quality products at reasonable prices. I especially LOVE their hard ice creams (especially Coffee Toffee, Vanilla Latte, Thai iced tea, and many more!)--these are all made by Melissa in house. They also have vegan hard ice cream made with coconut milk, for those who are dairy-free. And their dairy soft serve is great, too: especially the two-berry twist! Ice cream was good but...I was given a mostly melted chocolate cone. Dripping everywhere and soaked through the cone. When I said something they gave me a hard time saying it's hot out(it's only 78 degrees) huffed and offered me a new cone after I repeatedly denied a dish to place it in instead of the cone I ordered and said that it was clear the machine hadn't been purged. I was then given twist on a cone at which point I just ate it. won't be back. Also absolutely overrun with bees in the seating area read more

Coming from out of state, I'd heard good things about Ithaca's ice cream. I was excited to try Sweet Melissa's but found it pretty average. My family and I ordered the pineapple sundae, orange/vanilla twist soft serve with peanut butter cone dip, and cookies and cream flurry. The sizes were generous, and the staff member who took our order was friendly. All of the ice cream came out within 2 minutes. I was a bit bummed that no hard ice cream was being served. I normally have a huge sweet tooth, but I found the cookies and cream extremely sweet. Honestly I didn't think it tasted much better than a McDonald's McFlurry! Sweet Melissa's ice cream is pretty sweet! A great little spot a couple of blocks from the Ithaca Commons, Sweet Melissa's got the perfect soft-serve to cool you down on a hot summer evening. The folks here are very friendly, and the portions are incredibly generous (based on what the same portion would go for back home in DC). I had a really good, creamy, yummy, delicious classic swirl - half chocolate, half vanilla - and the medium will only set you back $2.99, the large being just 30 cents more. Besides their eight soft-serve flavors, they've got quite a few inventive hard-serve flavors, and you can get your ice cream just the way it is or in a sundae, milkshake, float, or flurry - and who doesn't love a few mix-ins? There's a small seating area next to their service window where you can hang out or enjoy your ice cream, or just walk the couple blocks back to the Commons and watch the passers-by on a nice evening. This is my favourite, go-to ice cream place nowadays. There's often a line but it moves fast. Parking is relatively easy to find. It's a pretty cute stall/shop on the corner with some picnic tables available for use, within walking distance of a park. The ice cream itself is a dream for any soft serve lover- light, airy, affordable, and you can smother it in sprinkles or chocolate shell. My personal favourite is the blackberry yoghurt (I think that's the name? It's been a while) with sprinkles or chocolate shell. The employees are also super kind. Sweet Melissa's is a staple of the town and almost all the Cornell kids will stop by there during some point in their academic career in Ithaca. Why? You ask. It's because you can get super high stacked and instagramable AF soft serve that can be afforded by students going to a top tier private university. The amount of flavorful soft serve you get for the price paid yields a high rating on the price to taste to quantity ratio. It's hard to beat these prices, and even though they might not have the most innovative flavors in town, they are still delicious and well worth the trip. And if you're looking for a flavor recommendation, the King of Ice Cream endorses the two-berry twist. ;) read more

Super delicious ice cream!!! After reading some reviews my family and I decided to check this place out. From my understanding there is another location with more hard flavors but we really enjoyed the soft serve here ! I got a cookies and cream flurry and thought the vanilla ice cream was rich and creamy. In terms of seating and atmosphere, everything is outside but there is a place to sit. Great prices as well! I think that's called the Washington Park neighborhood, or west-Downtown. For pickup, we parked on Meadow. To eat in, there's a pretty large parking lot on Court Street. We saw what looked like more than 40 pastries in the display case, more than 15 bagel varieties, smoothies, teas, lemonade, and a host of creative coffee beverages. Of course, i got an espresso, neat. Rich, dense, dark, hot, perfectly drawn. And a regular Americano with oat milk. Fresh and tasty. Got a generously decorated well-crisped BLT to-go. We split that enormous blueberry, strawberry, kiwi tart. I wont even tell you what we added on top, but i'll say it was nearly next door ;-) Quick friendly service. The happy chatter of well-caffeinated well-sugared people. We even saved a fellow pastry-aficionado from forgetting their purse!

The server refused to give me another spoon, despite having already paid $6.25 for a somewhat small cup of ice cream. I offered to pay for the extra spoon and was met with another glare and a strong "NO". Have you ever been to a ice cream shop that refused to give you an extra plastic spoon?

Pro tip for those who might not know: they serve limited flavors of the same Cornell-made ice cream in dining halls. They also serve it during the buffets at Statler Hotel. I love the different flavors, and would eat it at any time of day.
