Stop at Geneva Lodge and ate at Horizons bar after golf. I had a grilled chicken sandwich with a fruit cup and my husband had the cheeseburger. Food was excellent. We have eaten at the bar several times and never been disappointed. I ordered an ice tea which was brewed and rich with flavor. Service was definitely a step above. My husband and I split a dessert which was a lemon white chocolate skillet cookie with vanilla ice cream. I should have ordered my own because it was delicious. Jacques was our server great recommendations on what was good we spent about a hour in the bar area and were pleasantly surprised by the clientele being friendly. Three drafts later, (great beer menu by the way) and we decided to get going on meal. I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered the beef brisket sandwich with mashed potatoes. Our room included a $50 dinner voucher and a breakfast voucher, so we were looking forward to good quality meals at the Horizon. Disappointing. For dinner, we got one of their salads, their Saint Louis ribs, and their chicken Marsala. The salad was doused in dressing and wasn't particularly appetizing. The the ribs needed seasoning and I can't believe that you can mess up ribs, but they were not good. The Korean quinoa that came with it was just awful. In comparison, the chicken marsala that my wife ordered was much better, but on an absolute scale still below average. The service was very friendly, but spotty. Our salad and meal was brought out at the same time??? The breakfast was a bit better with a omelette/egg station, but again the quality of the omelette was just OK. The food was not particularly appetizing in the rest of the buffet. The ambiance is lovely. High ceilings, beautiful views and wood paneling throughout. read more

Great stay at the Lodge and the Horizons Restaurant did not disappoint! Before dinner, we had a drink in the Horizon Restaurant bar. The bar isn't too large, so grateful we snagged the last two free bar stools. A nice cocktail menu was offered. I recommend asking for it. For dinner, we were seated near the window. It was a nice view. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast which was amazing. The sandwich totally had me at "strawberry BBQ glaze". Additional toppings were; arugula, pickled red onion, and smoked bacon. The next day for breakfast we headed back down to the restaurant. A fantastic breakfast buffet was offered from bacon to potatoes to sausage etc. Also, a made-to-order omelet bar!! WOW, What a treat. The pricing was reasonable too. this review is for the Easter Sunday buffet. Buffet presentation was excellent. Pasta service was an excellent touch. Salads were fresh and nice. But, for $60 a pop, the prime rib was way overcooked, chicken on the buffet was also overcooked, ham was overcooked, and also the fish on the buffet was overcooked. Service was a C possibly C minus and overall my first impression at the hostess stand was disappointing. If you're going to charge $60 for dinner, the first person you see when you walk in the place at the hostess stand should not be a boy/girl with black painted fingernails. I don't care how old you are. You're most vibrant and savvy person should be the first person you run into. Located in The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake Horizons offers all meals. The lounge is cozy in one area, and the large windows are in a large dining room that accommodates a lot of people. We dropped in for lunch. Service was good. Food was tasty, and at a good price. The salads looked amazing. The black bean burger fell apart, but was very good and easily eaten with a fork. The Club sandwich contained large pieces of bread and was difficult to eat. The shrimp tacos were good. The house BBQ chips didn't taste BBQ. They were just seasoned. (Would probably have been happier paying $10). Then we had the Oven roasted walleye which was great came with polenta and salad and the special of the day was Iron skirt with mashed, quite tasty though it was initially served " Raw" rather than medium they gladly re-heated it. We paired our dinner with a bottle of Reisling and Cabernet and capped it off with an off the menu chocolate lava cake. Server was quite a talker, did not bring us bread and silverware. I enjoy experiencing new things, but I have to say that I was not please with resturant at all! The food was horrible the cook should either get more lessons or get a new one. Wings were so dry, second order completely blk. My walleye tastes like fish sticks dried up the leaves and the side with it had a horrible taste the chicken gnocchi no comment..... The waitress was just wonderful!!!! But we will not go back there to eat unless they change that menu. read more

The chicken francese was excellent, served on risotto which was very good. The wait staff were friendly and extremely helpful. We timed our dinner to be there while the sun was setting. I guess that I should have known when we showed up on time for our reservation that I made a week ago, and it wasn't in the book! But they accommodated us to a nice table near the window. Great landscaping outside, with tables outside also and servers running in and out with drinks and food, which explain the great number of flies that the patrons kept swatting at. Our server was a very nice, young lady, that took a drink order and came back to let us know that one drink special on the menu could not be made that evening, and that they had no Canadian whiskey for my Manhattan... now the real fun began, as folks came in were seated and served, we waited, after our order was placed for 45 minutes. I now understand why this place should stay with what they are good at: bottled beers, hamburgers and fries! We ordered Chicken Marsala, finding out after 30 minutes that the new chef mistakenly made CHICKEN FINGERS. So, we waited and like I said after almost everyone else ate and left, we finally were served! I will say that our dishes were pretty decent, but the Manager never came over to express any apology. So this place has a really nice breakfast buffet. The omelet station is at the end of the buffet, but we always go there first and order our omelets so that by the time we get through the line, the omelets are almost done. That way, the rest of the meal is hot when we get the omelet. The potatoes are some of the tastiest breakfast potatoes ever. Muffins, fresh fruit, scramblers, bacon, sausage links, oatmeal, french toast or hotcakes, and sometimes even blintzes! It is cheaper to eat if you are a Senior, only 9.99. Let your server know in advance if you are a senior. Also, there is seating outside when the weather is nice, for really awesome views of Lake Erie. read more

Wanted to like this place a lot more than we did. We made reservations to celebrate a 32nd wedding anniversary as we were staying in one of the cottages. We called ahead to see if they offered anything special to purchase/arrange for the occasion, but weren't given any options. The dining room is pretty spacious (although fairly dated) with enormous windows providing lots of natural light and gorgeous views of the lakefront. What a gem in Lake Erie. We sat outside on the patio and had incredible Views of Lake Erie and small wedding taking place. The service was good and great menu selection for a state park. The odd thing was that someone was having a wedding (right in front of the restaurant) which was odd. The highlight was when the ring bearer turned and sucker-punched the flower girl....what a mess. I will never know if the food here is good, because I will never set foot inside. The management is clearly lacking, so I have serious doubts about anything else. A reservation was made online more than a week in advance for a large party. We were notified the DAY BEFORE THE RESERVATION that they could not accommodate us. The closest thing to an answer for this was "Our reservation system should not have accepted it." But it took you more than a week to make a phone call to let us know, leaving us with a large party the day before the event with nowhere to go. I am normally a pretty roll with the punches kind of chick, but there is simply no excuse for that level of mismanagement. Even if I could forgive you not knowing how to work your chosen reservation system (if you're gonna take online reservations, learn how it works first), calling someone with a large party reservation the day before is just inexcusable. read more

When we walked in it doesn't really have a great atmosphere. It's used for breakfast at the hotel so it's very open and has old furniture. The tables are mostly just out in the open and it's odd for dinner. So we were quite surprised when the food came out. They brought fresh croissants to the table which were delicious. I had a salad with crispy tofu. The tofu was great! It also had these fruity nutty crackers on the side that were a nice addition. My husband had the filet mignon. Been coming to the Lodge for several years and the food has gradually become worse YOY for the last 3 to 4 yrs, specifically the breakfast. I can't speak to the dinner/lunch menu however at one point the breakfast menu and buffet was phenomenal. Now unfortunately the bacon, eggs, and other selections all taste either over cooked, under cooked, or cold. Full transparency, felt like we were eating left over food from the day before reheated in the microwave. The best part of the breakfast was the bagel and cream cheese. Though our family loves coming to lodge as a annual trip, the Horizons restaurant is one stop we will avoid in the future. read more

I don't understand how this restaurant is not rated higher. We went on Christmas Day for the candle light dinner. They had their full dinner menu available plus two dinner and desert specials. The ambiance and decorations were great. The wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable but were not checking in every two minutes. I didn't find the prices unreasonable because this isn't cheap diner food, it's a nice restaurant. Comparing it to other nice restaurants I've been to the prices are reasonable. The food was all delicious and well seasoned from the appetizers to the dessert. I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice sit down experience. If you want cheap food, go down the road and get a hot dog. read more

Weekend brunch buffet is excellent. Huge selection and the food is kept fresh. Omelette station is good - full service - with all of the standard toppings plus a couple nice extras.
