I'm afraid Hornstulls Marknad may have lost its touch. The location is still perfect - Hornstulls Strand, right along the water, is worth a stroll even when there is no flea market. The view out across the water is unbeatable, particularly on a sunny day. And last year, I would have given the market five stars, easy. It was absolutely packed with sellers, with everything from low-end to high-end clothing to toys and books and antiques and wooden phone cases and more. It took 45 minutes just to walk through, not even looking thoroughly at each table. This year, the selection seems weak. I know that each week it's different, but I've been to the market three times this year and each time I was disappointed. I used to always walk away with something new - a sweater or dress or shoes - but I haven't purchased anything this year. There simply aren't as many sellers. I think that one reason for this may be the new focus on food trucks. The food trucks were there last year as well, of course, but there weren't as many. Now it seems that the focus is just as much or more on the food than on the flea market. Now, this isn't a bad thing per se - the food trucks are fantastic. You can indulge in crepes, Jamaican, Mexican, or a traditional Swedish fika. But if you're hoping for a second-hand shopping bonanza, you may be disappointed. read more

Lovely place to spend time on Sunday in summer. Perfect combination of the flea-market and Sunday brunch with a street food from food trucks. There is both diamonds for the eyes like Stockholm dwellers who sell their plecious clothes and home things, and artist selling their creations, as well as diamonds for the stomach: tacos, vietnamiese food, coffe and cakes. Marknad is located at the street facing the water, so one can just sit near the shore with some nice snacks, enjoy the day and take it easy. Every marknad is not like the previous, so one would want to come there regularly. read more

A cute little summer flea market and food truck festival held every Sunday from the first weekend in May to the last weekend in September (with the exception of the Midsummer holiday weekend.) If you have a slow Sunday and would like to grab an interesting lunch in this neighborhood during the summer, I suggest you pay this spot a visit. There were quite a few food trucks corralling around that I hadn't seen before and it all looked pretty interesting. I went with the Funky Chicken one and it wasn't too bad! They also had an adorable little creperie in a small camper that you should definitely keep an eye out for when your here. The sun was shining heavily when we went and I felt a little like I was on a boardwalk in Cali for a hot second. It was really a pleasant walk around "Hips-tull" on such a nice day. I enjoyed the idea of having a little lunch with some shopping style entertainment included. However, I do not think that I would ever come here specifically to do any real serious flea market shopping. They just did not have enough vendors to make it a real destination for that purpose. I did see a few cute things that might have made my wallet itch a tiny bit, but a lot of the fashion and vintage goods were heavily over priced. A lot of the other stuff there was even just straight up junk. This was really more about the food trucks this year than actually being a viable marketplace. I would've liked to see the whole festival extend down the street into the park area. I would have also liked to see a few pop-up picnic tables and a beer garden. I was surprised that Calexico's or the Brooklyn bar didn't jump on that wagon. Calexico's even went so far as to rope off their outdoor seating area and close up shop for most of the day! Like whaaaa?! Why not take advantage of the foot traffic with a little Mexican fiesta buffet or something? There is also the gluten free bakery nearby called Friends of Adam, which I completely forgot about! Why didn't they have a table hawking their delectables? Why did none of the businesses in Hornstull seem to join in on the fun? If I were the production company on this event there would be a lot more pizzaz and wow factor going on! One real suggestion towards that would be to increase the size of the event, shorten the dates, increase your advertising budget and make the tent prices a bit higher. Businesses couldn't ignore the dramatic increase in foot traffic and would be more eager to jump and join in. Plus, they would have an easier time justifying purchasing a booth for more money if the foot traffic allows for it. I think most people would really prefer to come once or twice and really go bananas at an awesome festival that lasts only a few days than get underwhelmed by a smaller one that lasts a few months. Go big or go home! I think it's asking wayyy too much of people to require them to keep coming back to an ever changing festival over and over. I could only make it there once this year and I live next-door in Liljeholmen! Just sayin'! =P Despite my professional experiential designer opinion being a little harsh, I did find myself a nice afternoon here and would go again next year--if I didn't have anything else better to do on a sunny Sunday. Don't let my rant dissuade you, It was really an enjoyable visit! Though, i'm not sure I would go out of my way to fit this event into my schedule.
