YES! We wanted something interesting to do on our annual drive down to our Florida coast vacation…read more We simply added a day and zigged out to Kentucky for a little outdoor adventure. First tip - get there early so you can explore the general area. We had a little time, so we hiked to Balanced Rock for some great views and some photo ops. "Gorge Underground" is an abandoned limestone mine (where they accidentally struck water and flooded it beyond use). Luckily, it's great for a kayaking adventure! Our guides were super nice and very informative. With one in front, and one bringing up the rear, you were free to wander (just a little) versus single-file through a boring tour. The experiences is just really cool. At one point, we ended up in the farthest-in part of the cave, and we all turned off our headlamps. Pitch dark. The guide had some funny stories, but then asked if it was anyone's birthday coming up (it was my son's in a couple days). So we all sang happy birthday to him (but he couldn't be embarrassed - it was dark and nobody knew who he was!). After finishing our 90 minute tour, it was time to dock. My wife and I lagged behind to be the last ones out, giving us probably 10 extra minutes of "taking it all in". One regret is that we didn't plan ahead enough to get the clear kayaks with LED lights. That would have been another layer of "cool". I would recommend to anyone. The water is still as can be, so it's a gentle paddle that anyone can do.

Our guides Josh and Dylan were helpful and knowledgeable. It is COLD down there. I didn't wear socks because I didn't want them to get wet but in retrospect I wish I had. Toes were numb!

He was friendly, engaging and humorous. The round trip ride lasted about 90 minutes. The boat was very nice with bench seating and the ride was smooth. We sat upstairs in the open air to enjoy to scenery. A bar tender will take drink orders and deliver beverages to your seats. Drink prices are reasonable. Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

Our daughter had spent part of her growing-up years here in Frankfort, where my husband and I have lived for 50+ years. She enjoys introducing her Colorado daughter to the beautifully forested, living beauty of Kentucky's natural world. Before departing the dock, we enjoyed browsing in the gift shop, with a great assortment of caps, tee shirts, memorabilia, and some Ale8! Upon boarding the boat, the crew offered a bourbon service that would rival most any local selection. We all enjoyed lovely bourbon refreshments! Together with visitors from Tennessee and other nearby states, we learned some Kentucky River geography and history, along with equine, bourbon, and horse racing history. The captain was skillful and knowledgeable, as she cruised the riverboat on the sunny Sunday afternoon. The tour guide was a true font of history with amusing anecdotes of his personal career in the bourbon industry and his overall knowledge of the Commonwealth. Treat yourself, your family and your friends to an altogether enjoyable, educational, and Kentucky-based adventure-- spend some time on the riverboat! You'll be glad you did! The grounds are clean, and the people who work at the plant are friendly. They also had a vending machine that had different flavors for 50¢. I selected the Blackberry, and I regretted it. It tasted like medicine. They mentioned that it was back due to popular demand. I'm not sure how, but to each their own. On a side note, please check their website for tour days and times. What I want to know is how it hopes to capitalize in the beverage market? Pepsi and Coke are the powerhouses and I think this drink could do better. You know what was great about Sprite? The fact that people drank it on stomachaches, it actually did something. Now, this drink adds in ginger? you know what ginger does? Exactly! So why not put cane sugar in this thing, along with ginger and naturalize it? High fructose is one of the worst ingredients anyone could put in a beverage, although, extremely cheap wink wink. So the next time, you should want to make a high quality drink, change to cane sugar, put more ginger in it, keep the carbonation and voila! See? I do not even need to be hired as an idea creator to make up ideas, I am giving it here, to help the common wealth, the uncommonly wealthy, the nation, and the world!
