If you have 2-3 hrs in Lexington, KY, take the time to go on a horse tour. I enjoyed getting up close with the thoroughbred horses in the area. Each farm was beautiful with great landscaping and tons of acreage. I particularly favored the KatieRich Farm since we visited various barns with mares and yearlings. I made sure I took pictures of them all so I could remember their names when I watch them in the Kentucky Derby one day.

This is a fabulous tour of three beautiful horse farms around Lexington, during which you meet and pet scores of thoroughbreds who welcome human company. The tour guides provide lots of information about raising and breeding horses, and the workings of the elaborate farms where the horses are sheltered. I highly recommend this three hour shuttle tour to young and old alike.

    Even more gorgeous in person!

Excellent tour! Sean was very knowledgeable, entertaining and made sure everyone in the small group felt welcomed and had a pleasant time, from young to old! Our driver did an excellent job chauffeuring us around and our ride was nice and clean. The drive was well worth it seeing such beautiful country and vistas along the way and just being able to look out and enjoy! The horse properties we visited were gorgeous and the animals stunning. Questions were welcomed and such great info was given at each stop and along the way. Sean went above and beyond to make this an unforgettable experience! Do not hesitate to book this tour and to see behind the scenes of horse country and appreciate what the Lexington area is known for!

I can't say enough good things about our horse tour. We went on our first one today and we absolutely LOVED it, no wonder it has such high ratings. The guide, Shawn Washington, was very knowledgeable and funny as well. He not only helped make things really interesting, but made us laugh and brought humor to the morning. The farms were indescribably beautiful. I was so ... glad I got to pet a horse and feed them a peppermint, it made my morning wonderfully wonderful as well as my heart smile. I highly recommend this tour. I had no idea when we went on it that it would bring us so much joy. It created a desire for me to have a horse (I don't know how thrilled my husband is about that,) but for the first time we've started talking about it.

This is it! This is The One! What a great experience and an excellent time. The tour is approximately 3 hours in a temperature-controlled luxury bus (not a van) that is very comfortable and easily accessible. A small group tour of KatieRich Farms, Margaux Farms, and the Lexington Livestock Market with Shaun was very personal. Shaun is the real star of this tour. He has a vast knowledge of the Lexington horse scene and seems to know everybody. Not only does he have private access to many areas but he also has wonderful humorous entertaining stories about the business. Hollywood should seriously consider making a movie about this incredible man. We visited the two farms mentioned and had personal contact with several of the horses. The farms themselves were simply beautiful to see. At the Livestock Market we saw a live auction and Shawn took us behind the scenes to see how the cattle were managed. We also had the opportunity to nuzzle and feed dandelions to some Long-Horned cattle. (Yes, they loved the dandelions). I can't recommend this adventure highly enough. If you don't book this tour you have missed out on a great experience.

Amazing tour, worth every penny. Sean the tour guide seems to know everyone in the horse community and you get the benefit. We even got to pet baby horses. I will definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

This tour was amazing. It's been on my bucket list to visit Kentucky and as a huge horse lover, I never thought I'd get to visit a working thoroughbred farm, let alone pet the horses there. Shawn was great, so personable and humorous, and his passion for horses and knowledge of the racing industry really shine through. I loved the small group setting and how you can really get up close and personal with the horses. Shawn also took us to the local BBQ down the street and introduced us to the best ribs and ice cream, a local hit away from the touristy stuff! This tour is a definite must if you're in the Lexington area, whether horse lover or not!

First tip - get there early so you can explore the general area. We had a little time, so we hiked to Balanced Rock for some great views and some photo ops. "Gorge Underground" is an abandoned limestone mine (where they accidentally struck water and flooded it beyond use). Luckily, it's great for a kayaking adventure! Our guides were super nice and very informative. With one in front, and one bringing up the rear, you were free to wander (just a little) versus single-file through a boring tour. The experiences is just really cool. At one point, we ended up in the farthest-in part of the cave, and we all turned off our headlamps. Pitch dark. The guide had some funny stories, but then asked if it was anyone's birthday coming up (it was my son's in a couple days). So we all sang happy birthday to him (but he couldn't be embarrassed - it was dark and nobody knew who he was!). After finishing our 90 minute tour, it was time to dock. My wife and I lagged behind to be the last ones out, giving us probably 10 extra minutes of "taking it all in". One regret is that we didn't plan ahead enough to get the clear kayaks with LED lights. That would have been another layer of "cool". I would recommend to anyone. The water is still as can be, so it's a gentle paddle that anyone can do.

Our guides Josh and Dylan were helpful and knowledgeable. It is COLD down there. I didn't wear socks because I didn't want them to get wet but in retrospect I wish I had. Toes were numb!

He was friendly, engaging and humorous. The round trip ride lasted about 90 minutes. The boat was very nice with bench seating and the ride was smooth. We sat upstairs in the open air to enjoy to scenery. A bar tender will take drink orders and deliver beverages to your seats. Drink prices are reasonable. Drinks can also be ordered and purchased on line. (I think snacks were also available). We booked our cruise several months in advance with tour and tasting tickets at Buffalo Trace Distillery. Two members of our party backed out and we were able to cancel their reservations (thankfully) the week before and get a refund. We started with our visit to Buffalo Trace. We arrived about an hour early so we could shop at the distillery and we were glad we did because we did not have time to shop after the tasting and getting to the boat. The tight timeline between the tasting and the boat departure was the only downside to the trip. I recommend the cruise, but plan on going at least an hour early to the distillery to shop.

Our daughter had spent part of her growing-up years here in Frankfort, where my husband and I have lived for 50+ years. She enjoys introducing her Colorado daughter to the beautifully forested, living beauty of Kentucky's natural world. Before departing the dock, we enjoyed browsing in the gift shop, with a great assortment of caps, tee shirts, memorabilia, and some Ale8! Upon boarding the boat, the crew offered a bourbon service that would rival most any local selection. We all enjoyed lovely bourbon refreshments! Together with visitors from Tennessee and other nearby states, we learned some Kentucky River geography and history, along with equine, bourbon, and horse racing history. The captain was skillful and knowledgeable, as she cruised the riverboat on the sunny Sunday afternoon. The tour guide was a true font of history with amusing anecdotes of his personal career in the bourbon industry and his overall knowledge of the Commonwealth. Treat yourself, your family and your friends to an altogether enjoyable, educational, and Kentucky-based adventure-- spend some time on the riverboat! You'll be glad you did!
