The BEST tour EVERRrrrrRRrr!!! If you're looking for a "Unique" hints the name lol, tour farm! This is the one to do! Shawn Washington was awesome! My friends came to visit me from Florida and wanted to get a sight seen tour about the Bluesgrass and boy they got it! Shawn was knowledgeable and answered all the questions, the guest had asked. He took us to very known farms that no other farm tour had access too so it was very nice to have just the group who was on the bus. The bus was a very comfy and smooth ride also, not too hot. We got to see a lot of stallions and was very lucky enough to see American Pharaohs Son! The COOLEST part was getting to go to the Vet clinic and seeing a live operation on a horse. We had token the noon tour so after the tour, Shaun took us to this moms and pops BBQ place, OMG! It was to die for! I'm sure if you mention the BBQ place, Shaun would take an extra trip if you take a later tour! I promise you, you will be HAPPY, you took this tour instead of the others. read more

We spent a very pleasant morning with Mr. Washington, touring Merriworth, KatieRich, and Margaux Farms, along with a rest stop at Midway Bakery and Café. At Merriworth, we fed peppermints to the retired/rescued thoroughbreds, who are living a sweet life there. At KatieRich, our group was excited to see all the mares and their foals, many of whom were sired by Kentucky Derby winners. We sampled many of the delicious baked goods at Midway Bakery, and we especially liked the cinnamon rolls, and chess pie. The grounds at Margaux Farm are simply beautiful! We had the pleasure of spending a day with Sean and his son during a recent visit to Keeneland race track. What a wonderful way to visit the beautiful countryside of Lexington! They took us to several famous farms and introduced us to the interesting history of the racehorse industry. Our favorite stop was the Calumet farm graveyard where we saw 8+ generations of famous winners including Seattle Slew, Citation, BullLea, Whirlaway, and many, many more. You just can not find this opportunity offered anywhere else. In addition, meeting with Sean is like reading the Wikipedia on Lexington horse racing history. While we all wait for him to publish his first book, we still have the opportunity to learn from a man that has lived the history. This is a must-do experience to add to your bucket list! read more

Shaun was a phenomenal tour guide - his tour included everything from retired racehorses to the youngest foals, as well as some of the training and breeding farms. He shared many cool stories, insights into the racing world with his experience, and gave us local suggestions as well. Our tour started at Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, where we were lucky to meet the founder and hear his passion for the farm's mission and the horses retired there. We got to meet and feed carrots to two Kentucky Derby winners who are enjoying their retirement at the farm. We then traveled to two other gorgeous breeding farms where Shaun filled us in on more facts and folklore. You'll have a great time on the tour with many laughs! read more

Shaun picked us up at the Embassy Suites in Lexington and took us to three (3) thoroughbred farms. We visited barns full of horses and colts and in some cases were allowed to pet and give peppermints to some of the horses. There was one farm where the yearlings lined themselves up along the fence so we could pet them. Another farm's beauty was breathtaking. Shaun's knowledge of Kentucky's thoroughbred industry made it possible for him to answer our many questions about the farms and horses. We're already making plans to go back this fall! read more

My family and I have traveled to Kentucky before, never having experienced a horse farm tour. So, recently, I did a search for horse farm tours online and Unique Horse Farm Tours by Shaun Washington came up. It was fantastic! Shaun is very knowledgeable about the horses and history of the derbys and racing. He has so many interesting stories. His son, Shauntez was our driver and also knowledgeable We got to see very up close million dollar thoroughbreds and a two-day old foal. Amazing man with encyclopedic knowledge of the Kentucky thoroughbred scene. He will tell you stories till your ears fall off...funny stories, stories about huge failures and huge successes on the track. He seems to know every horse in the area and every farm. My wife and I were somewhat "horsed-out" by our 4th day in Lexington and had seen lots of farms but Shaun showed us stuff that was still amazing and fun. AND ENTERTAINING. What a wonderful day. Shaun Washington is a walking encyclopedia of thoroughbreds, racing, and the business of running horse farms. He grew up in the area and industry. He knows everyone which provides him access. He clearly loves teaching others about the horses and answering any questions with his southern hospitality and charm. I highly recommend this tour. It is very interactive. We had access to the horses, fed them, and petted the foals. Other tour buses drove through but didn't stop the bus, let alone get off and walk around. My friend and I were treated to Shaun's Thoroughbred tour on 4/20/17. He is an excellent tour guide! He had the connections to take us behind the scenes to see mares with nursing foals, yearlings with multi-million dollar pedigrees and a mare - the daughter of an Eclipse champion mare - in foal to American Pharoah. He quickly sizes up his tour group to ensure they get an enjoyable experience. The latter is so important because we were fairly knowledgeable and Shaun knew the experiences we were looking for. My husband (who is not a horse person) and I (who own a horse) were in Lexington for a few days. After failing to plan on our own to visit horse farms and finding we were too late once we got there we decided to book a tour. I am SO happy that we booked with Unique Horse Farm Tours. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge and very engaging. Of course the horses were the best part of the tour, but it was amazing to see the everyday workings of these beautiful farms. OMG What A Great Tour & Time!!! My wife & I went last week met in the lobby with our tour guide Jeff who was awesome! He was fun knowledgeabl. We hopped in the van took us to different horse farms which in it self beautiful! We were able to go in certain farms pet and treat the horses with peppermint candy (boy they love them) Jeff learned from his grandfather & father and his years of working in the business. We enjoyed it so much must be the fastest 3 hrs we experienced didn't want it to end! My advice GO! Ask for Jeff!!! read more

April 20, 2023 We read reviews of several horse farm tours & selected this one because Shaun sounded like he would provide the personal touch. He delivered in spades! Shaun must know every 2-lane back road in the area & we traveled many of them. The tour was advertised as 2.5 to 3 hours; we got every bit of that time & just a little more. Our first horse farm tour with Jeff and it could not have been better. He is such a knowledgeable tour guide, as having grown up being a part of it all. We got to visit the horses and babies on our tour and we found how much these horses love peppermints!
