To be fair, this seems to be a major issue across Mexico with the tap water. But only some hotels have the sewer water... the other hotel I stayed at didn't. Not sure if this is because they filter their water additionally somehow or they were just in another area of town. Hard to feel clean when the water you're using smells like toilet water... and this smell unfortunately lingers on your skin Other than that issue, I would 100% recommend this place. Maybe the owners will see this review and find a way to fix this problem. It's clear they lovingly planned this place with the utmost hospitality in mind for their guests and it's a shame that the experience is marred by the unsanitary water

We loved loved the location and it was super easy to get back to to drop stuff off or grab a jacket for an evening meal. The staff was very friendly and responsive. We felt safe. So why 3 stars? Our room opened to the hallway where people sat and smoked. It was the designated smoking space with ash trays positioned on the bar. Also, when it rained, everyone huddled there to hang out in the evening and smoke. Because the rooms don't have AC (and they don't need it), you have the window above the door open for air flow. The window in the bathroom is just a screen. We had an early morning (waking at 5am) hot air balloon ride one morning and people were out there partying, smoking, drinking, and talking until well after midnight. There is also a very bright light right outside the door and it shines directly into the room and there is no shade. The light can be turned off outside the room but that leaves the people in the smoking area in the dark. I don't blame the smokers, they were where they were supposed to be. I asked the front desk for a different room and they pointed to the room next door as the only other option. That was not an improvement. This information was not shared with us before we checked in and I wish it would have been. There are so so so many hotels to choose from in San Miguel. We would have preferred a quieter space. The room: The bed and bathroom were fine but there was definitely limited space. The room is small but manageable. The bathroom really needed more shelf space (really ANY shelf space would have been nice) and we ended up putting everything on the shelves in the bedroom and using that as our bathroom vanity area. The room came with a fan and heater but even in June it was comfortable and AC was not needed. There was an extra blanket, a glass container of water that they would refill each time they cleaned the room or upon request. We were lucky enough to be there when the Japanese restaurant had their grand opening. Their food is AMAZING and their hospitality was superb. I highly recommend you stop by for their food. Staying in one of the rooms in the BACK of the hotel off the courtyard would likely be great. Thus the 3 stars. Do NOT stay in one of the rooms in the entry area.

The experience at this hotel begins before your stay. A week before our stay, the concierge at the hotel contacted us and provided us dinner reservations and made a spa appointment for my wife. Upon checkin you are provided 2 beverages from the bar as you sit with the front desk representative. We were upgraded to a larger room and the bell hop brought out bags to the room and made sure all of the lights worked as well as the temperature was comfortable. We ordered food from the restaurant three times and room service once. It is great food and excellent service. The ambience is nice in the patio. We were provided a nice dessert tray on the house. My wife said the 80 minute spa service was relaxing and just what she needed. The spa is on-site on the lobby floor. I tried to find something wrong with this hotel. I cannot. It's near the city center, near other 5 star hotels. Has a nice pool deck. It even has American television channels. The staff is always willing to provide the best experience possible at the hotel and San Miguel.

My friend and I split the pork belly and the fideos secos (mushroom pasta). It was basically chopped spaghetti with mushrooms on top. Not my favorite but my friend enjoyed it. I really liked the pork belly. It was a giant slab that was very tender. It was supposed to come with plantains but it didn't have it. I didn't realize until writing this review. I'm a bit disappointed it wasn't included because when I did see it on the menu, I was very excited to eat the plantains. I didn't get to try the gorditas but my friend enjoyed it and ate most of it. she said it was very filling. We got the mazapan and the coffee flan. I really enjoyed the peanut mazapan. It was a great compliment with the salted caramel ice cream and the semi sweet chocolate. We wanted to go swim in the pool and we checked the times. It said it closed at 9pm and we got there to check. When we came back up at 8pm they said the pool was closed. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The waitress we had didn't speak much English but used a translator app to help explain what we were eating and to get our orders. Only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of the 5 stars is because of the missing items and the pool times. I'm sure if we had caught the missing food items they would have sent them over to us! The bedrooms were very well lit. The hotel is also very close within walking distance, a few blocks, of centro. It is on a bit of a hill and it takes about 1-1.5 flights of steps to get to any of the rooms. The elevator starts after that initial flight of stairs. So if you have trouble going up/down stairs of a small uphill walk to the hotel, then this may not be the best option for you. Overall, we very much loved this hotel and location. Hard to be beat.
