Friendly staff, great amenities, beautiful building, but the bar downstairs (and directly below the graffiti room) shook the floors and beds for hours making it impossible to sleep well. Try to get something on the third floor or don't plan on going to bed until the band downstairs is done playing. Great hostel though. read more

One of the coolest designed and decorated hostels I've ever been in. The different theme in each room made for a cool vibe. The beds are extremely comfortable. I visited in summer and the AC worked perfectly for a good nights sleep. Staff was cheerful and helpful. Definitely a cool location in town too. I very much enjoyed my stay! read more

We stayed here in December and were thoroughly disappointed by our stay. As it was advertised as an "upscale, premium" hostel we thought it worth it to pay a little more but the actual hostel rooms and amenities were equivalent to most other hostels. Then, during our first night we were woken up at 4am on the first night to three men yelling at each other and physically fighting with each other before it sounded like somebody tumbled down the stairs. Afterwords we heard them yelling and shouting for another half hour or so while one of them was audibly retching. After a while one or another of them began yelling repeatedly "help! someone help!". At this my partner got out of bed and stuck his head out to find out what was happening and was told it was a "long story, don't worry about it" by the person throwing up who may also have worked at the hostel. We later learned that the hostel is above a music venue and the two businesses share an elevator. It's possible that the scuffle we heard was caused by concert goers who had drunkenly wandered into the hostel, but that didn't necessarily make us feel any safer After that first night, we decided to stay somewhere else, rather than risk another night of interrupted sleep when we had wedding events to attend the next day. Upon check-out we inquired whether we might be able to cancel our second night because of the disturbance but the staff member told us that "it's a hostel, that's kind of what you get." We did not get our money back. I've stayed at many hostels and have never experienced something like this. If you're choosing between this hostel and a more expensive hotel closer in to the Mall or the Milk Block, go with the hotel. The savings aren't worth it. read more

This spot is super fun and chill. The staff is friendly and cool to talk to. Alex was super helpful with answering questions.

You can take the train from the airport, and the hostel is a 10 min walk from Union Station. I would not recommend a car. Parking is sparse in this area and the nearby lots are insanely expensive. This place is a stones throw from Coors Field, several breweries, live music, and bike rental stations. Can't beat it. The only downside during my stay was the temperature of the room. It was pretty muggy despite sleeping under only a thin sheet. If you're a light sleeper I would recommend earplugs. There is a bar about 20 feet from the rooms. It wasn't overly loud but may bother some people. read more

Oh, Hostel Fish. You are the reason that I bothered to create a Yelp account. As soon as I walked up the stairs, Sara(h?) and Paulie welcomed me. They introduced themselves, chatted a little bit, and left a great first impression. Filipe (guys, I'm really sorry if I'm spelling your names wrong) helped me with my luggage and showed me to my room. They came by my room and made sure that I was settling in okay and answered my questions. They dealt with my overbearing, super duper talkative personality. They are amazing, genuine people! Chad (the proprietor) stopped by to talk to the employees, and he introduced himself to me. "Seriously, what hostel has a record player and a fully functional piano, no, not a keyboard but a full sized wooden piano." Not my words, but what a friend of mine said when I sent him a picture. Go here, I can't possibly add to what everyone else has already said about this place. But I will tell you about the hosts. Tara is amazing and super friendly. Brad is like a young and sharp Nick Offerman. Charles is the best bartender you will ever meet. Marie will help you find the best places to eat. Chad the owner of this beautiful high end hostel, will teach you how to play darts. You will also meet some of the nicest and unassuming people you have ever met in your life. This was my first time at a hostel and I was overwhelmed at how great it was. Patron-Margherita is three fiddy during happy hour. Do yourself a favor and go here. read more

Had such an amazing time staying here. I came here Sunday to wednesday. The first 2 nights, it was just me and my suite mate. Then 2 more people came. I stayed in the Aspen, which was a 5 bed co-ed room. I felt safe and comfortable the whole entire time I was there. Lockers are provided for free but a $3 rental for locks if you want extra security. The hostel is within walking distance from everything from bars to good eats to marijuana dispensaries. There is a bar at the hostel with great deals every night. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and everyone staying at the hostel is so laid back and chill. Definitely met some great people here and made many awesome memories! Will definitely come back the next time I am in Denver. read more

Parking is an absolute nightmare. The staff just says there are public lots around but there is nowhere that allows you to leave and return. The hostel is extremely noisy at night. The bars around the hostel and the one in the hostel play loud music late at night. The staff offer "complimentary" earplugs - as if they don't understand how having plugs in your ears could be uncomfortable for sleeping. The rooms are terribly hot. They have air-conditioning, but it doesn't seem to work well. I couldn't even sleep comfortably with just the sheet on. I would definitely not recommend staying here - you'll be much better off getting an airbnb. read more

This place is awesome! I actually came here for a yelp party, and it was so much fun! The rooms are super cool and it's also a great opportunity to meet people traveling from all over the world. They have a bar inside the hostel as well which always makes for a good time. I stayed here back in August because it was in the middle of Denver and really close to the train system. I was absolutely in aww of the antiquity of the building and the amazing artwork all around the building. However, I was not impressed with the staffing. There were lots of times where it was hard to find an employee or anybody working there. They didn't have a pos system set up for Apple Pay so that made it hard to pay for things at times. There was a moment where I met a new friend and he was generous enough to share a joint with me that he just bought at a legal dispensary just down the road. There was a balcony at the hostel where people could smoke, so we headed up to the balcony and found ourselves sitting next to the owner of hostel. As we attempted to light up the joint, the owner stopped us and told us that the smoking of marijuana was not allowed on the balcony. This blew my mind... I felt it was ludicrous that you could not smoke something legal in a designated smoking area. There were times where the hospitality was great, however overall as a tourist traveling to a big city for the first I felt that the resources provided were subpar. read more

As a backpacker, this hostel is one of the most expensive I've come across BUT is absolutely worth it. Rooms and common areas are really nice and clean. Bathrooms are extremely clean and modern. I stayed in a 12 bed room and it was huge with lockers in the room and outlets by each bed. Can't beat the location right downtown within walking distance of Coors field, bars and restaurants including the one on the 1st floor of the hostel. It is also a couple of blocks away from union station and the greyhound bus station. read more

This place rocks! The owner is super cool and the staff is great. The place is well done, super nice and everything you could ask for. Easy to meet people, there's a bar where people gather and a smoking balcony. It's right next door to a dispensary and there's a great restaurant underneath with a small music venue. Last time I was there, John Popper from Blues Traveler popped in. The beds are comfy and sheets are great. For really cheap, they will do all your laundry. Most rooms are coed, fun because you meet people. I still keep in touch with friends I made there from the US and Australia. There are people from everywhere there. My stay at Hostel Fish was amazing! I loved every minute from the time I walked in the door until I left. The staff couldn't be friendlier. They were very nice, helpful and answered my questions about getting around. The decor is so charming and unique. They did an awesome job designing this place and the location is perfect. It's so close to restaurants and bars. I was completely surprised by how gorgeous my room was...way better than staying in a cookie cutter hotel room. This hostel is full of character! I had a blast! The living areas were nice and quiet, you can sneak away anywhere and read a book or tablet. You can play the piano, meet people from all over the world for breakfast. If you don't mind walking a little there's something in every direction. If you dont' want to walk, the parking is close with lots all around and a bar, brewery, and recreational shop on the block. The beds felt like sleeping in a cloud, I had no clue people were coming in and out of the room thanks to this (stayed in shared hostel room with 9 beds). As long as you approach this as a HoStel (and not a Hotel) you will be very pleased. While it was not spotless it was still clean. The younger people tended to stay out late and sleep during the day (a plus or minus depending upon how you look at it). Free Wifi was provided. The bar below was sometimes rather loud but never to the point I could not sleep (my room on the second floor was right above it). And the bar right in the Hostel was quite a bonus! And for the party goers out there they are right on a long strip of bars, eateries and several dispensaries. They are also walking distance from several shops and the RTD can get you even further (imagine, a transit system that works!). And Lyft/Uber is well represented in Denver. I had to wait no more than 5 minutes for pick-ups. That being said using a top bunk in a 2-tier bunk setup was . . . interesting. I would not recommend the 3-tier bunks as I would imagine the clearances are quite small between levels/ceiling. tl;dr summary: Not the cheapest but clean and centrally located. Highly recommended. Will stop here again on my next vacation. read more

Of the places I had the opportunity of going on my trip, I felt most comfortable and welcome at Hostel fish. This is a fantastic hostel in the downtown Denver area. The bathrooms are incredibly clean and aesthetic. The entire hostel has a great atmosphere and awesome decor, with a fun, vibrant atmosphere. The staff was really friendly, and the hostel felt safe and secure. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was well air conditioned. I am pleased with my experience and i will definitely be staying here again if I am in the area. read more

BEDBUGS. This was my first time in a hostel, so I can't compare to other hostels. As a female traveling alone, I booked through Expedia so I was not aware of the female only rooms, which I would've done instead. Anyways I stood for 3 nights. My first impression of the place, was it appears clean, and the staff was professional and accommodating at check in. I lost my debit card prior to checking in, so they allowed me to place a cash deposit of $50.00 dollars. I stood in the Doxie Doves room, which is a standard 9 bunk room. The top bunk is very high, at least 12ft you'll have to climb up. I unfortunately was at the top, and being 5'0 feet tall, height isnt really my thing. I bared through it the first night, but this is when things took a turn, because of the height of the bunk and hanging onto a ladder praying not to fall, I never really examined my bed as I usually do for any place I stay. I assumed I was safe and the bed was clean. Well, night two I was sleeping and the walls are paper thin, you can hear everything going on outside of your room. As I was sleeping, the room next to mine, there was a group partying and being extra loud, alot of shouting and chanting. I woke up and when I was laying in my bunk I noticed something on the ceiling, I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight, and I took a look at the ceiling (top bunk is super close to the ceiling) it was a BEDBUGS crawling above me. This is when I lowkey start freaking out, I pull my blanket back and looked with my flashlight and there were two more BEDBUGS in my sheets. I'm talking a big ass BEDBUG then a baby one. Meaning there's a family of all sizes. Look I understand it's a hostel and people come and go, and this can happen anywhere, but prior to this discovery I asked the front desk if I could move to a bunk lower since the top bunk is not fun to climb up to, I noticed two middle bunks havent been in use since I've arrived. The employee said "it looks like they need maintenance" and he wouldn't lie to me. I told him ok thanks just thought I try. So back to the bedbugs, I start grabbing all my things, mind you it was 2:30am, and luckily an employee was closing down the bar downstairs so he was able to accommodate me. I explained to him what happened and he moved me into the Clock room. After I was moved, I took all my things and started examining everything of mine in the bathroom as well as my body, I had no bite marks thankfully. Unfortunately someone was using the washer so I put everything in a plastic bag and threw away the PJs I was wearing and then showered. I went into the Clock room, nervous to even look in my bed. The Clock room was empty and my bunk was lowest to the floor. The bunks in the Clock room are an upgrade, with outlets, a little fan and a lamp. The room was very cold, but I was too nervous to turn the heat on, cause I was scared the bugs would come into that room through the vent since the clock room is across the hall from the Doxie Doves room. I dont know much about bed bugs but I wasnt taking any chances. My bed was clean, but I didnt even want to use the blanket because I was paranoid of what I just experienced. I kept waking up throughout the night to check my sheets. I was in the clearing. The next day, I paid the 5 dollars to wash all my clothes (they have a washer, $5 for 2 hrs), I kinda wish that was accommodated for but whatever. My final night I slept peacefully and more guests checked into the clock room, and another guest snuck someone in their bunk and you can hear them fooling around. Thankfully I just put my headphones in. I had an early flight, so I had to check out at 4am. Due to employees not being at the desk, they have a security guard who takes your key card while checking out, but because I put a $50 deposit, the security guard did not have access to give me my deposit back. I called after I landed home and an employee said that they will mail me my cash deposit. I'm still waiting for that to come in the mail. All in all the staff was friendly and understanding. The bunks in the Doxie room need to be disposed. It does get loud from the bar below, I slept with headphones in. read more

A very cool hostel in the center of Denver. The staff are really nice and there is a laid back vibe. Close to breakfast places and bars. Coors Field is very close by. They have a small bar in the hostel with great happy hour prices. The terrace is nice with benches to sit in and chat with other guests. The bathrooms were very clean and modern. Clean, pretty quiet (bring some earplugs just in case), nice bathroom and showers. I parked my rental car for $9.50 a day in a public lot right next door. It is a policy to screen for Denver locals versus the "valued travelers" of the world. We are undesirable at this establishment Denverites. My money is the same color here or anywhere else in the world, what's next?? Skin color? I'm truly offended and chose to withdraw my support. And I hope you do too. If you don't like your city and it's people get out Hostel Fish. We're not here to be pimped out. Don't sell our look and feel for your benefit and then treat us as second class. Give Corwyn my best. Chad, I wanted to bring it to your attention that I left your establishment last night meeting with Corwyn. I was hosting an event to raise fifteen thousand dollars for the Denver Rescue Mission at The View House in Denver. I've stayed at the hostel 2 times prior without incident and was a former fan and supporter of your business. As well as a supporter of Ophelias, Root Down, and Linger. After coming from the benefit I checked in, wanted one glass of wine, and was otherwise off to bed. You're evening staff, Corwin, was far from welcoming to begin with but the moment I mentioned that I was from Denver I got a negative attitude. He persisted to be insulting, saying that your establishment does not commonly accept people from Denver. I explained to him I'd stayed their twice before and that I had never heard such a thing before. He actually told me I was fortunate that they/you were overlooking my demographic or I would otherwise not be there. I was shocked by such a response. I am a huge supporter of the local small business owner. I prefer to put my money into Denver to stimulate our economy and provide well deserved jobs for Denverites. I prefer to keep Denver out of The Denver Rescue Mission. But apparently you have explained to your staff that you prefer to promote an environment that caters to international travelers. I'm both surprised and disgusted to hear that this is the vision of the Hostel Fish. I have recommended you to my local and international friend network and now I am completely ashamed that I ever did so. I feel as though you are steeling the pride of Denver, downtown, the ball park, and it's people. How dare you steel our identity for name sake and then turn us out on the street. This is a major betrayal to our city and it's people. If you hate Denver people so much that you would tell your staff that we are not the desirable visitors for your establishment....get the hell out of Denver. I'll lead the way to show you the door. I wish I could say it was just the view of Corwyn but when I called today to get your name and number I was told by the morning staff that this is in fact your view. I've never been so insulted in my life. I left your home last night and left for my own, never to be back to yours again for sure. Even if you instruct your staff not to say these things out loud to paying clients I will always remember.
