Hot 103.7 is in my rotation and best I can tell is the only Hip/hop, R&B and soul station. It's pretty much like Hot 97.1 back east NNJ/NYC, even has Ed Lover popping on for station related adverts and talking the Ed Lover Experience which I'm pretty sure are mostly prerecorded. Tiffany Warner is whom I usually hear during my morning commute. She's good, but nothing particularly special. No morning show, unless I miss it, just music and commercials. Always hoping to catch a string of songs and not commercials. If it's not commercials, sadly Hot 103.7 is either Hot or cold with their tracks. when they're hot like this morning where they hit a string some classics/throwbacks of all lady MC's - Lauryn Hill, Eve, Aaliyah and of course Missy Elliott since she's coming to town in a few weeks. This is where it gets cold. If anyone is coming to town they play their stuff, CONSTANTLY, and it's not even varying their library. If I hear "Work It" one more time.... Even when it's not that I place bets with myself before tuning to 103.7 that I'll most likely hear 50 Cent, Nelly or DMX. I feel like 7/10 times It's one of their songs being played. Or of course Sir Mix Alot/Macklemore for obvious reasons. Despite my issues, Hot 103 is ok. read more

I can easily say one of my favorite radio stations for my generation. For someone that listened to 90's - 00's R&B and Hip Hop. It's definitely not for everyone and that's fine, but now with KUBE harder to play it's really the only Hip Hop station in town. 92.5 and 106.1 play too many pop songs and if that's your mood or thing cool. This station has changed to HOT 103.7 which is a far cry from what the mountain did. It specializes in music for 22-40 year old women. It's throwbacks from the 90's and current hits with minimal commercial interruptions. Unfortunately I noticing a lot of repeats now. More so than what they did when they first introduced the station. Playing 10,000 songs commercial free with very little repeats. However all good things change, the commercials and repeats are here. But I find myself singing along all the time to this station. This should be zero stars. Some corporate hacks took a truly exceptional radio station and first made it mundane, then less than a year later made it truly awful. Instead of live performances later compiled on yearly CDs, instead of great music festivals twice yearly, instead of introducing us to original new artists, we got one more repetitious "classic rock" station. At first I was ambivalent about The Mountain, despite hearing a few negative things from Arya and The Hound. Then I saw him in person and admitted he had a pretty impressive physique, despite being repulsed by his apparent lack of compassion for the people he was killing. The one star, though, only came about when I saw he was aiming to be champion of the crown in the trial of Tyrion. I would very much prefer Tyrion to remain alive over The Mountain, no matter how much money the Entercom corporation has sunk into him. No matter where you live in the Seattle area, you are most likely stuck in traffic around 5pm. I like to start my drive home with the Attitude Adjustment Hour on The Mountain. The highlight of this segment is the '5:20 Funny'. Marty Riemer features some very funny stand-up comedians for your commute home. I have been laughing so hard sometimes that I almost caused accidents. Fellow eastside drivers, if you see me laughing hysterically in my car, don't be alarmed. I did call to talk about it and go ta very umm... nonresponsive intern who argued the case, but apparently had not heard what they said! The chill side of the mountain is a crime against radio (-1 star), but the rest of the shows I've heard have a wide-ranging collection of (mostly) rock from the 60's to today. It's rare that Maria and I disagree on something, but this is one of those times. Just now I've listened to Gnarls Barkley, Blondie, Nora Jones, Shawn Mullins, Lennie Kravitz, and that "House of Bamboo" song. The variety is nearly endless, mostly main stream, but a lot of the best independent stuff. They have a show on Tuesday mornings "Shawn Stewart's New Music Preview Every Tuesday morning at 7:30am" that is cool. I've learned about some of my favorite new (to me) bands from that show (North Mississippi Allstars, Keane, KT Tunstall, Gomez) from that segment. Also, I love the "5:20 funny" for a break in the day after work. The evening host plays a few minutes of stand-up comedy. It's great because it helps wipe away a day's toils, while I sit in gridlock. read more

I can't. I just can't. I mean, I love my sister, and she thinks the Mountain is cool. And I've tried many times over the years to listen to the Mountain, but it just drives me up a boring, grey, everything's the same wall. I love KEXP but only from 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. So sometimes I'm stuck in the car other times and I need to listen to a radio station 'cause I've forgotten my iPod. The End is, well, the end of female artists, which drives me kinda batty, being, well, female and all (and knowing there are really great female artists making even, gasp, hard alternative rock these days). So I flip to the Mountain. Which, 7 times out of 8, makes me think of this old Garrison Keillor skit (I used to date a guy who listened to Prairie Home Companion religiously) about how boring new-age music was a Republican plot to get white middle-class people to eat their carpets (I think there wasn't a raunchy pun intended, I mean, it's Garrison Keillor). Over the past few weeks I've heard the Mountain proclaiming Band of Horses to be "new music." And I like Band of Horses, and I've had the album for five months or so, since after they started playing it on KEXP, so it doesn't seem exactly "new." (And I'm not exactly on the cutting edge of KEXP music, either.) I've heard the same Band of Horses song -- The Funeral -- twice now in flipping to the Mountain, and I know it's because it starts out slow and doesn't get really challenging. Most of the stuff they play, as far as I can tell, is insipid, boring, simple, meaningless love song slow rock, at least in what I've heard. I mean, my sister's a Sheryl Crow fan. I love her, but I can't go there. I just can't. I like music. read more

Not the station for the kiddies...they usually find it boring. I moved here from FL and we had nothing like this in Tampa. All alternative rock (which is OK too) and teeny bopper pop music (oh...and the coutnry stations, bleh). Anyway, I like the folk/rock genre, a bit lighter side, adult contemporary. This is what the mountain is. It is a nearly perfect music mix for my style. read more

Too Bad Yelp won't let me give this a negative star rating. The current Mountain is now a station of last resort as there are better classic rock stations. The old Mountain was such a great radio station to learn about emerging artists. Stop those stupid Mountain Goat and 3 hour ads, and bring back those great artists that KMTT helped discover and promote over the years. The KMTT app is now purged from my iPhone as it is no longer worth any memory space on my phone. I imagine the Mountain Music lounge is now a memory and we've seen the last of the On the Mountain CDs. One minor positive thing is that they occasionally give interesting factoids about the music that is now played. This is not enough to keep my interest. Now I have to use my iPhone sync'd to my car stereo to play old On the Mountain CDs for good music. read more

I came to listen to KMTT after my former AA station went to easy listening. Some of the on-air folks pointed me to 103.7 (You could actually call and talk to the studio way back in the 90's) I loved the music, and the format. Then, all of a sudden it became all about ad revenue, and listener ratings. I am saddened to lose an old friend and disgusted by the Entercom brand. read more

The 5:20 funny is a much needed ha ha on the way home from work and I really love things like New Music Tuesday and the corresponding New Music Throwdown. Look at it this way.... this station is like... buying that "Time Life one hit wonders of the 90s CD" from late night TV.. and having it on a constant loop. Try THIS experiment: Go to the Mountain's website http://www.1037themountain.com/ and go to their tunegenie playlist thing that shows what things they have been playing.... Did you know that they play Semisonic - Closing Time...at least 6 TIMES A DAY EVERY DAY FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS? Did you know that they play that stupid DMB You and Me song 4 times an hour?... as some sort of contract requirement? I know... I know you probably don't believe me... but BELIEVE ME.. go check it out for yourself... I did.. I counted! it's ok... if by ok you mean.... that you can stand the same repertoire of Natalie Imbruglia - Torn, Melissa Etheridge - Come to My Window, DMB, Alanis Morissette Ironic, Semisonic Closing Time intermixed with a small selection of crappy U2 songs and the 'current top jams' every hour. My coworkers have it on at work... I swear I have Closing Time lyrics memorized... you know why? because they play the same songs by the same artists every day.. almost on the cue..... and you know what's sad.. i actually USED to like that Semisonic song. and it's not that the artists are bad (wait..DMB is bad...)... it's that they play the same SONGS by each artist... yea if you wanna climb up the wall from listening to a shitty looped playlist of Bono and other crap, you might like this station. The Chill Side of the Mountain left me pretty chilly. I'd rather have been chillin'. I've never heard such a mix of music I loved and hated and so many station breaks in 20 minutes. Miles Davis - good. Herb Alpert - bad. Motorcycle - good. Enya - bad. I really tried, but gave up and turned to my CD collection for music to work to. I once described The Mountain to someone as "radio that doesn't insult your intelligence". I believe they heard me after that and immediately started doing something that continues to this day: they have a very well-defined and apparently air-tight list of "core" songs that their Programmer Du Jour told them the 25-54 demographic will salivate to every single time, just like Pavlov's Dog schpritzing at the bell. Tom Petty, that inane thing called "You Get What You Give" by the New Young Radicals, stale Bob Seger songs...just like any other "adult contemporary-formatted radio station in the world... BUT, in between those annoying stretches, The Mountain manages to uphold my old description just fine, with occasional cuts tossed into the mix that are sometimes so surprising that I stop dead in the middle of tasks - or the road - to marvel at hearing "that again, after 20 years!" I suspect that the jocks (does anyone call them that, these days?) at KMTT have a little leeway to play stuff they choose, every once in a blue moon, and some make VERY good use of it. I've heard things like Savoy Brown's "Tell Mama", Dwight Twilley's "I'm On Fire", several Alex Chilton cuts, and a lot of Peter Gabriel that never made it to the Billboard Hot 100. Mostly, though, what draws me to The Mountain is, and has been ever since it started, "The Mountain Sunday Brunch", EASILY the most compelling, varied, adventurous, imaginative, musical, occasionally-poignant 4-hour time slot on any Seattle radio station that's not based at a college. My Sunday mornings are ALWAYS accompanied by Sunday Brunch and the choice of what's played in that is, I believe, completely up to the air staff. It's maybe their one chance in KMTT's broadcast week to flash their chops as hard-core music freaks and it is never less than a dazzling showcase for stuff that will NEVER - NEVERNEVERNEVER - get played on any other commercial radio station in the Northwest. My GF, Judye, a confirmed Top Forty listener in her youth, turns this on in her bathroom every Sunday and sometimes gets sorta stuck in there because she loves the acoustics and WILL NOT turn off Sunday Brunch. (Try a mental image of two 50-somethings drinking coffee and eating scones in a closed bathroom, with one of us sitting on a shower bench.) My listening tastes have become sorta...uh...eclectic, here in my dotage.. I basically listen to KJR-AM sports talk all day, with KPLU for jazz and blues at night, and a smattering of KING-FM here and there. But on Sunday - and at times when I just want something tried and quite true - I always fall back to The Mountain. Now, if I could just get them to throttle back on the Tom Petty... read more

Sometimes tolerable music comes out of this station, but don't get your hopes up. I'm sorry but Reimer (spelling?) isn't funny, and is obnoxious as hell when I'm just trying to hear music on the way to work. And I know I'm probably in the minority here, but the Chill Side was actually pretty cool, if only by virtue of the fact that the music was DIFFERENT than all the other crap incessantly played everywhere else on the radio. I only live in SEATTLE part time now and was in total dismay when I got in my car and found some bee-bop crap playing on MY 103.7. I thought something was wrong with the programing and could not find an explanation for the dribble that continued. I had to eliminate the channel, not really replace since Seattle is sorely lacking in great, alternative, classic, varietal, deep track, rock. What the hell? How shameful. read more

Hugely disappointed 103.7 changed their format and more importantly, discontinued their HD-2 broadcast. It truly was an exceptional channel with a unique format that cannot be found, in my opinion, on any current local stations. It was, in fact, the only channel I listened to for the last 20 years; my receiver never was tuned to any other channel. I do not like the new format and I can say unequivocally I will not longer listen to 103.7. I suspect very young executives made this horrible decision and hope that soon in the future they will reconsider, as their blend of adult contemporary was unsurpassed by any other station. I used to be a frequent listener, but the station latches on to a few songs and beats them to death. I finally gave up after hearing Home by the Magnetic Zeros every other hour for the second month in a row. Before that the Mountain had an obsession with Michael Franti's "Say Hey". Frankly if people like these songs that much that they need to hear them every two hours, wouldn't they rather spend $1.29 on ITunes? The music selection needs to be diversified in the worst way. When they eventually play some tunes I like, they disappear quickly (Fitz and the Tantrums - MoneyGrabbers and Ry Cummings). read more

I agree with rating the current 103.7 with 0 stars. The change took me by complete surprise as well...I too have been listening to the station since it's early days! I definitely noticed the downhill slide, now it has hit "rock" bottom! This "new" station is supposedly slated for women...ha! Not this one! What a travesty! read more

There was no radio Station like it, The Mountain, and I still miss it. Marty Reimer and the gang playing fabulous new music that would never see radio play except on The Mountain. I was introduced to so many artists due to The Mountain........Lyle Lovett, Keb Mo, John Prine, Loreena McKennit, Patty Griffin, and so many more talented song writers and musicians I never otherwise would have in my CD collection today. And they also gave local musicians air time as well. And lets not forget the 520 funnies! Seattle radio lost it's magic the day The Mountain left the air waves. The market is flooded with Classic Radio blah, blah, blah. Still sad in Seattle after all these years. read more
