I most recently visited Tillie's on a Sunday evening in July to celebrate my sister's birthday…read more This restaurant has been a long-time favorite for my family, and I have always enjoyed visiting here. Tillie's is located on 36th Street in McKeesport, just a few minute drive from the high school. It is also rather close to the Boston neighborhood. The building has adequate signage and is easy to locate. There is an entrance off of 36th Street as well as off of Kountz, and both are usually open. There is some street parking surrounding the building, along with a private lot to the left of the main entrance. I have never had an issue finding somewhere to park when dining in. We arrived to the restaurant around 5:30 PM on a Sunday, and it was not too crowded. I dined in with a group of 5, and we were seated immediately. I have been here on Saturday nights where there is a wait, so just be mindful that there could be a wait during peak business hours. In addition to the normal menu offered, there were some specials also available. We did not order any of these this trip, but there is the potential for some rotating dishes if you come to dine here! To start off, we ordered a few appetizers for our table. We got an order of the Fried Provolone Cheese, as well as the Fried Calamari. The Provolone is in wedges, and served with their marinara sauce - they were crispy and melty just as you want them to be. The Calamari are served with the marinara, along with a special dipping sauce. Both were good and complimented the Calamari well! Additionally, thick-sliced bread is provided for the table before the main courses come. They will refill it if you ask, and it is always delicious. For my main course, I ordered the Parmioli, which is a Tillie's special dish. It is Chicken Parmigiana topped with a giant cheese ravioli and baked together. It is a favorite of my family, so I have enjoyed it many times before. This time was no different, and the dish came out delicious! It was definitely enough for me to have some to take home. The entree came with the choice of a soup or salad, and I had a Small House Salad with a side of ranch. It came out as a nice appetizer before the meal, and was fresh and colorful. Other members of my family ordered different entrees. All were enjoyed by the person who ordered them, and included in my review are some pictures of these dishes: Chicken Alfredo, Lasagna, and Chicken Parmigiana (no mushrooms). There was also a Small Caesar Salad, and a Cup of Wedding Soup ordered that were included with the entrees. Beyond what we ordered on this visit, I would recommend trying the pizza to split with a group. It is especially great if eaten fresh while dining in. If you are undecided or want a lot of food, the Specialty Trio Combination Dinner is a great way to try multiple dishes. Our meal was wonderful! Everyone enjoyed their food, it was all hot and fresh, and was prepared well. The service was excellent, and we had a great experience with our waitress. We have really never had a bad experience here before, and will continue to keep coming back. The prices here are very fair. All meals come with the table bread, a soup or salad, and then the main entree. Most are around $20, but for what you receive it is worth it. A lot of items are made in-house, and the sauce is unique and tasty. I would recommend this place on value alone. I always love coming to Tillie's, and this visit was no different. The food is classic and as close to true Italian as it gets. The charm, atmosphere, and staff all keep me returning time after time. Tillie's has that old-time Italian restaurant charm that reminds you of a different time, but in the best way. Do not miss your chance to try this classic gem if you are thinking about going!

The zucchini at $10.98 (!) was undercooked, poorly breaded and greasy. Table of 5 and nobody raved about their food. Mine was a frenchfryless chicken salad that missed the mark. Noticed that a steak salad ordered by one of our party came with French fries on it. Did the kitchen forget to put them on my chicken salad like they forgot to fully cook the terrible, high priced zucchini ? That food should have never ever left the kitchen. Definitely not a "hidden gem". Crossed this one off the list for good.

Elote was ingeniously cut into smaller pieces to share, swimming in a pool of delicious toppings, and sooooo fresh... for winter... not sure how but it was literally summer fresh. Growing up in the area, I have had…read moreYoli's several times at different events or by take-out, but this was my first time dining in at the restaurant. Yoli's Cucina and Crafthouse is located at the intersection of State Route 885 and Payne Hill Road. The building has been other restaurants in the past, but Yoli's has occupied the space for nearly a decade. It is very easy to locate from the road. There is a private parking lot as well. This is not a heavy business/commercial area, so it's very easy to park and navigate into the restaurant. My visit was on a Friday night this past August. We chose to come after seeing a Facebook post about "Friday Night Lights," which was extended hours on select Friday nights when the TJ High School Football Team was playing at home. My family and I attended the game, and usually will try to find a pizza place to go to afterwards. Since we saw the post for this, we decided to give it a try. We left the football game a little early, and arrived to the restaurant around 9:15 PM. Since the game was barely over, we were one of the first few groups in. The longer we were there, the more people filtered in from the game. It was not completely full though, so no problem getting a seat at a table or the bar. There are plenty of seating options. The dining room has many four-top tables, some booths, and bar-height four-tops surrounding the bar. Of course, there are bar seats. In the back, there are also several longer tables. I assume this room can be rented out and/or reserved, but on this night they had it open for dine-in. As advertised on Facebook, there was a special menu for this after-hours time. It was a limited menu with $10 Pizzas, $10 Yoli Rolis, and $3 White Claws and Domestic Bottles, plus other items. We were not given regular menus, but instead papers that had the limited menu printed. It listed all of the different items, however, it had no descriptions. This was an issue for us, since we were not regulars of the restaurant. Our server acted really strange about this honestly, and would not give us a regular menu to look at when we requested it for the descriptions specifically. So instead, we had to literally ask her what was in every single sandwich, what all of the toppings available for the pizzas were, and any other specifics about any items. I understand in theory why they made the menu like this, but it should have included item descriptions. It makes sense that they do not want customers trying to order off of the regular menu, since they are not serving everything. But, eliminating descriptions is an issue. This was the first "Friday Night Lights" of the season, so it is possible that this improved for other ones moving forward. Following that confusion about the menu, we placed our orders. Our food was ready in about 25 minutes. My mom and I split an 8-Cut Mushroom Pizza. My fiancé ordered The Baller, which was a half-size meatball hoagie with marinara sauce and melted provonello cheese. My dad ordered The Drunk Fish, which was a half-size Yuengling battered haddock with melted provonello cheese, house greens, and house tartar. Both sandwiches came with fries. We each enjoyed our food. The pizza was more than enough for the two of us, and we even had some leftover to enjoy the next day. It is not super thick, but it is not a New York slice, either. A good in-between. Both of the sandwiches were okay, but the portions with the fries were generous. I personally liked the fries. Overall, we had no real complaints about the meal. Everything came out in a timely manner and prepared well. The value of our meal on this night was great. Some of us got some drinks, but for the food it was only $30 before tax. Hard to beat that, especially considering it was four adults. I appreciate them having these specials! The staff here was average, all considering. As detailed, not being able to see the descriptions for the menu items was really bizarre, and unhelpful from a customer service perspective. Otherwise, we had no issues with the service or our waitress. I am glad I got the chance to dine in at Yoli's! As stated, I have had their pizza many times, but never dined in. We had a positive experience overall, but as detailed there are some areas for improvement, specifically relating to the limited menu/after hours events. I hope they continue to have success with these, and improve on them for the future. In an area with very few locally-owned restaurants, it is nice that Yoli's is around and continues to be successful. I hope to come back to try more of their menu on a typical business day, especially the Yoli's Rolis. I believe the "Friday Night Lights" is an incredible idea, and promotes a better community. If you find yourself in the Century III/South Hills area, definitely give this restaurant a try!
