Pile up
Valerie V.

Restaurant is clean, service fast and friendly. Food was on point. My brother ordered the pile up, and really enjoyed it, it had everything from home fries to eggs and toast. I had a BLT, bacon was crisp and home fries were seasoned perfectly.

This review isn't based on one visit to The Turnaround, but rather multiple meals over the past two years. We've had breakfasts, lunches, & dinners there and have not once been disappointed. While I can't point to specific examples of what makes this place deserve 5 stars, I can say that we have had consistently good food and good service at reasonable prices! It sits on top of Large Hill on Route 51 South in Jefferson Hills, PA and is aptly named The Turnaround as that section of 51 is a divided highway and you likely have to turn around to get there or when leaving. It might be a little hard to spot. The font on the sign doesn't stand out among the other businesses. It's definitely a great place to visit. I think you'll be pleased if you do! I've added a photo of the restaurant taken from their Facebook page.

A hidden gem batting well above its class…read more You'll find it tucked off the side of Old Clariton Rd, locals will remember the American Legion that used to be here. Parking is a breeze and on site. As we walked in, we were greeted and immediately seated. The hostess gave us the option of a high top or bench seat. Inside was exceptionally clean. Seating was nicely spaced around the bar, perfect amount of spacing to not feel cramped and able to hear your date/guests. You can get away with casual dress (I wore shorts and a tee shirt) but I would not feel overdressed in nice clothes either, it could easily accommodate both. Our waitress was super nice. Actually, every staff member was very friendly, which made for a very pleasant atmosphere. We started with a pretzel, both the honey mustard and cheese sauce were delicious. I ordered the summer special "backyard burger" which is a 7oz char-grilled steak burger. My wife got the Angus with a salad. Everything came out as ordered and was delicious! Service was excellent. This is a definite return for us!

Tonight when we were ready to order the server said it had to be an entree or pasta. When we said in the past, we used it on other things he said well the server must've made a mistake. We did not have the same server every time and we were very surprised at what appears to be a policy change. We changed our order and eliminated the appetizer we were going to get in order to use the savings card. It's just disappointing when a restaurant changes the policy in the middle of the savings card year.

We've now had breakfast/lunch items here I believe 4 times. Everything we've had has been good,…read morebut I will caution. It's a bit pricey. You could get the same things elsewhere for a good bit cheaper...but the quality is good. That is the only reason we keep going back. Good, but at the end of the day, it is honestly priced too high. Plus, a lot of the stuff you would think would come "with" a side, don't--and require you to add it on. Good service! Have not had any issues with that, and have found servers to all be helpful and pleasant. It has been consistently clean, and it seems like the newer owners of the building take pride in making sure it is kept well. Our go to's so far have been any of the breakfasts, with my personal favorite being the Eggs Benedict. If you're a pancake or french toast eater, you will like their offerings. My family swears by the wraps and burgers. Definitely worth trying, just make sure you go in knowing about the pricing and add-on's.

I ate here for breakfast for the first time yesterday. Everything I had was amazing and delicious…read more I had blueberry pancakes, bacon and eggs and a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries. I had to try the burnt ends and the three piece Pork meat plate. The pulled Pork, Brisket, ham and burnt ends were all good..it was very good actually. Highly recommended the Mac and cheese too.... I can't tell you how excited my wife and I were to finally go here. We'd been seeing the pictures…read moreon social media of beautiful and interesting food. Based on those posts, we expected somewhat of an elevated experience. We couldn't have been more disappointed. We were there on a lunch buffet day. It was a health code nightmare. If no one got sick from that buffet food it was pure luck. Nothing was covered. The buffet table had no heat except lamps. The potatoes and green beans were cold. I didn't try the chicken. The temperatures were all off, generally stone cold. The Italian beef looked absolutely disgusting, red and dried out. The wedding soup was literally sitting on a table in a metal pan unheated. The iceberg salad sat on the same table also not cooled and the cups of ranch dressing sat unchilled and uncovered next to it. The pastas were both cold. The Alfredo was bland but the marinara was good. The pizza looked good and was hot, but I didn't like the texture or flavor. My wife thought it was average pizza. We had higher hopes for the BBQ platter since it was coming from the kitchen. It was simply ok. Despite waiting quite a while for the platter, it arrived lukewarm. Assuming BBQ is made ahead of time, heating it up correctly is about the only thing that needed to happen, yet it did not. The pulled pork and brisket were ok, nothing special. No dipping sauce was served for the brisket or turkey which was odd. The pulled pork was drizzled with sauce. I don't like turkey so I didn't eat it. We both agreed that the green beans side was by far the best food of the meal. The server came out of the kitchen with the meat platter, but stopped to scoop cold green beans from the buffet. I had to ask for them to be microwaved. After bringing the food temperature to staff attention, they only charged us half price for the buffet. The effort was appreciated, but they shouldn't have been serving anything from that buffet except the pizza. The place was clean, but they were clearly having staffing issues. Ambiance was a 3 out of 10. I had wanted to return another time to try a crab dish, but that is highly unlikely. The worst part was while waiting to pay my bill for a bad meal, I got to watch several beautiful pictures of amazing food pass by on the lobby tv screen that don't resemble anything I saw or ate here today. It literally looks like another restaurant's ads.
