We discovered Stormin Crab a few years ago when we were in the area for the RV show and we absolutely look forward to our annual trip to the area and dinner is always Stormin Crab. The seafood boils are definitely the star here. Our go-to is #6 and is definitely big enough to feed two! We also enjoy the seafood bread -- it was rich and flavorful, and the perfect appetizer to kick off the meal. The atmosphere is casual and fun, with an eclectic vibe that doesn't take itself too seriously. First time here and it had its ups and downs. The whole place was covered in marker, which I thought was interesting decor. Inside and out you could write anywhere. I thought the entire place was not very clean, but I understand how hard it is keeping up with splashes from breaking seafood pieces open and butter. The bathroom especially, but that's where everybody goes to wash their hands after eating so i guess I can give them some slack. I've been to places in the south, where they put sinks out in the dining room for this exact reason. I thought the food was overpriced, but if I understood where they were actually getting the seafood from then I could maybe justify it. It's always scary ordering seafood in Pittsburgh, especially when the restaurant doesn't specify where they get it from on their menu. The hush puppies were decent but a little dry. I got snow crab legs and you get to choose a seasoning. I chose the Cajun one they recommended. I thought it was good but over seasoned. My hands still smell like it the day after. I would've been fine with just steamed crab legs honestly. It came with potatoes and an ear of corn, which I thought was plenty of food for one person. If this were closer, we'd definitely go more often. It reminded me of a Joe's Crab Shack with a okay area did kids. The place was covered in graffiti. So much that u wonder if some of it is fake. They were out of the gum o & etouffee, so we went with fried scallops (we'd never had scallops fried) & Cajun fried rice, silver we'd never had that either. Sadly, there is nothing Cajun about their Cajun fried rice. In fact, it was very bland fried rice. It tasted like lean cuisine. Very disappointing. When we mentioned that the rice had Jo Cajun seasoning and asked for more, the waitress explained that there's nothing Cajun about the fried rice. It's only called that since they're a Cajun restaurant. So disappointed by the false advertising. We knew we were in a Cajun restaurant & would face never ordered regular fried rice. Tried this place because a friend recommended it and I'm so happy I did. The restaurant allows customers to sign their name on the walls and chairs so don't be alarmed if you see a lot of "graffiti" everywhere as that's the vibe. The music was on point as they had a good playlist mixed with Hits/R&B going. The food was great! I had the appetizer platter and wings because I really wanted a mix of the apps on the list. For the apps, I got the fried okra, fish sticks, and hush puppies; for the wings I did lemon pepper and buffalo; we also had a side of seafood bread which was SOOO GOOD! I also got some sweet tea and as a southern girl living in the north, this was the best sweet tea as it's truly sweet. The prices were all at market price so it may seem expensive but Pittsburgh isn't located on the coast so I'm not surprised with the prices. Went on a Monday and the restaurant was pretty slow. Remembered to bring a Sharpie with us so we could sign our names (we didn't know about this the first time we went). The restaurant is decorated in cute nautical theme and you can sign your name or wrote a message throughout the establishment. They are known for the seafood boil, if you aren't into that there isn't a ton on the menu otherwise during dinner (just appetizers and sides). The seafood boils are very good & filling. Three people in our party had the shrimp/crab combo in garlic butter, I had the house cajun, another person in our party has the old bay. We all enjoyed the boils! A few people in our party didn't want a boil so they had shrimp baskets and other appetizers and sides enjoyed them. Not sure if it is common practice here but everything came out at once. The salads, the wings, and all the other food. We were expecting the wings and salads before the main courses. I unfortunately only gave 4 stars because our service wasn't great especially considering how dead it was and there wasn't an option to give 3.5 stars. We had to ask for refills, our server didn't take dirty dishes away when he came to the table and he forgot a few things. However he was friendly and was a younger gentleman so maybe he is still getting his feet wet! Be aware, If you go with a party of 7 or more they do automatically add on 18% gratuity. My daughter ordered the Create Your Own Combo of 1 lb. Snow Crab Legs with potato and corn, with spicy Cajun butter. The crab legs were a generous portion and stood no chance with my daughter. I ordered the Whole Lobster Create Your Own Combo with spicy Cajun butter and was a bit disappointed. For the price of the lobster, the lobster was more shell than meat meaning the claw meat was a lot smaller than the shell and was a bit tough. I was very excited to come here as i eat a lot of seafood during the summer when I am at the beach. I didn't expect the quality to be as fresh but the crab legs today were actually very good. The corn, potato, and sausage were also very good with all the sauce. The clams were good but a lot smaller than I was expecting. The shrimp was a little rubbery and the boiled egg was a little dry so I would not recommend those. I'm sure it could vary on the day of the week and time of year though. We did also try the garlic bread and it was so good I wish we got more. The service was a little slow but we were in no rush so it was fine. Ok so waited forever to try here since I saw them building last summer, opened in October 2022 and 7 months later here we are! I stopped by here yesterday with my wife and her parents for lunch. We happened to be at the waterfront looking for a lunch place whenever I remembered Storming Crab. Since it was early on a Wednesday the place was fairly dead whenever we got there. It's a large restaurant with a big seafood theme. That means that they have fake crabs, lobsters, traps, netting, ships rope and docks all throughout the restaurant. Then even more interesting, you are allowed to sign almost everything in the restaurant and so there are names and grafitti everywhere. It's worth noting that our server on this day was super nice to us. For my lunch on this day I decided to go with one of their lunch time boils which means you can get 1/2 pounds of seafood instead of full pounds. I choose the head off shrimp and crawfish with their signature boil in super hot. My wife also ordered a lunch boil and went with 6 scallops, the head off shrimp in the old bay garlic sauce. After we had ordered but before the food came out we all got a piece of their seafood toast. It was Texas toast with cheese, Mayo and crab on it. I enjoyed it, especially the cheese, even if I didn't get any of the crab flavor. A little while later our lunches came in their bags and were plated table side by our waitress. My wife's looked good and true to my ask, mine looked much redder and spicier. That wasn't a bad thing though as I absolutely loved both the spice and flavor in mine. It was near the top of my spice limit but not over it. I also really enjoyed the shrimp, potatoes and corn in it. What I wasn't a huge fan of was my crawfish. There were absolutely massive and so I didn't get as much tail meat as I had expected and I probably wouldn't order them again. I also would have loved some rice or fries to sop up the rest of my sauce and would gladly order them next time as my sauce was that good. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I wasn't expecting too much, I really did enjoy the sauce and most of the items in it. read more

I must admit I was a little nervous because the reviews weren't that great but they were trending upward for the past month so we said let's go and so glad we did! Service was great - our waitress made herself available when we needed her but wasn't too pushy. The complimentary bread they gave - delish! We built our own boil and it was super! We got the scallops, green mussels and the shrimp with heads on (way more flavorful!). A little pricey but so worth it. Seafood was fresh and delicious! The only thing I would change would be the sauce - next time we'll get the everything sauce where they mix all the flavors together. I was excited to try this place after seeing it open on the waterfront in a building that formerly housed TGI Fridays. After I had some issues connecting with them on the phone, eventually I got through and placed an order to go. The food was ready when I arrived 15 minutes later, and the restaurant was mostly full and lively. The interior seems well designed and decorated. When I brought the food back, I was a bit disappointed to find that all of the fried items were quite soggy. We ordered fried cod, fried catfish, fried okra, and the seafood bread. The fish was tasty, but the okra and fries struggled to overcome the overwhelmingly soggy and greasy coating. I was excited to try the seafood bread until I realized that topping is a creamy crab sauce which seems to be a mayonnaise base. While other people may enjoy that, it was not a pleasant flavor or texture for me. Perhaps I'll try some of the other non-fried seafood items on another visit, and I'll revise my review if it is a better experience. While the food was ok overall, so far they have not provided the experience that I was hoping for. read more

It's not cheap but it is delicious! Me and my teen sons hot on of the numbered Seafood Boils (#6 or #7 I think it was) and order of the Fried Shrimp Dinner and an order of the Appetizer Sampler and all shared. Bill was about $97 for all of that and was plenty for us to share. You will also get a complimentary order of Crab Bread to the table and it was DELICIOUS! It is such a crazy yummy mess that they provide you bibs and gloves for so I don't suggest this place for a 1st date. Lol. What an experience! This restaurant does an amazing job of replicating the boil experience you'll see in Louisiana, if not quite the taste or flavor profile but it came pretty close! What transported me all the way down South was the crawfish etoufee! This was JUST as good as any I've ever had if not better! The fried okra was a blessing to the palate as well. Enhancing the experience is the opportunity to put your stamp on the place by signing anywhere (other than the TVs) that you'd like! The service was friendly, explained the menu and boil reheating processes in detail, and apologized appropriately for a delay in a rice order by doubling it free of charge. Arrived opening day at about 6pm on a Friday. It is located in the former TGIF building so layout will be familiar (e.g. restrooms, bar are in same spot). Found out about opening from a FB post and being I was soooo nearby and hungry it won me over to try it out. Being solo I was pleasantly surprised there wasn't a wait list nor was I relegated to having to sit at the bar. I dined at a table in the bar area and it was a perfect people watching spot. They had a steady clientele while I was there so wonderfully diverse in gender, age, race, hair color, clothing fashion. I was greeted warmly, seated promptly, and my server, Reed, was very attentive the entire time earning his keep for certain. The menu prices are scary, not gonna lie, in part because everything post-COVID (Well, as post as we are going to be for....) is pricier and well, it is a seafood restaurant. While there are weekday specials until 4pm it was after that do opted for a hodgepodge of a little of dis and a little of dat ordered hodgepodge, too. All totaled I had 2 glasses of Pinot Grigio (they don't carry Reisling), sample cheesy seafood bread slice with crab they brought out for free then I ordered an order (4 pieces, 2 of which took home), bowl of gumbo, and a house salad. It was all very good. My suggestion? Just go to try out their seafood bread which my server said was the owner's recipe. That in itself will make you happy then you can go from there. Honestly, I can't afford crab legs, their specialty and restaurant namesake but would return for other options. Storming Crab is a chain seafood restaurant with several restaurants throughout the east and midwest. I haven't seen them before. Anyway we went in and found out they just opened that day. It's a good sized place and nautical kitchie cute. The food has a Cajun flair with an emphasis on seafood boils. The boil platters are a expensive and can be shared. Not sure where else in the area you could find crab legs, crawfish, shrimp, corn,potato's and sausage and it not be pricey. There are lots of other options as well including mussel's, oysters, lobster etc. You can also chose how you want your dish prepared including which seasonings and how much heat. Seafood bread is brought to the table which is similar to cheese bread with crab and very tasty. We ordered the crab cake appetizer which is 2 large cakes with lots of crab. More than a lot of others I've had. Also included with the cakes were crab knuckles which I'd never heard of but definitely enjoyed. For entrees we had the crawfish etouffee and a pound of head off shrimp with potato's and corn. Both dishes were excellent. The etouffee came with rice had lots of crawfish was nicely spiced and was a large portion. Plenty for leftovers. The shrimp is served in a large bag and placed on a big platter. The shrimp are huge and covered in butter and lots of garlic. Definitely leftovers with this one. Our server was excellent and was just in town helping to open the restaurant. The chef came out to ask how we liked our meals as he was really excited about the etouffe and that was pretty cool. We were really happy with our meal and wish they would open one In Indianapolis! We ordered the three app platter and our food (photos). Ambience is good, comfortable and good table setup for a Cajun boil (we did fried platters as the boil dinners were pretty huge for only two people). Service took a while but overall friendly and we weren't in a rush. As with any restaurant, just be aware places take a little longer than before but still good. Flavors was good, personally cannot speak to how true flavors were (this is a chain so always a consideration) but can recommend for personal flavor and price (platters are large and $11-14). This was my first experience eating crawfish ever! They were really good! I loved the garlicky Cajun seasoning, it added so much flavor! Everything was steamed in a bag then transferred to a big dish to eat out of. A bucket is provided for shells and items needing to be discarded. Gloves, bibs and utensils are provided too. This is a reflection of our two times here. Our first time here, this place was an amazing 5 stars. All the food was fresh and incredible. We got the #7 with some additional scallops. The free bread they gave was soo good. Perfect amount of creamy and crunch. Then the #7 came out and it was covered in sauce and yummy goodness. All the seafood tasted pretty fresh. Not the best but like still up there in quality. We loved our time here and then wanted to come back for more. Service was great. The bread was again incredible and sadly that's where it went down hill. We got #7 Cajun sauce Sam's special spicy again with some extra corn (3 cobs). I expected it to be filled to the being but I think we only got 1/2 more half cobs more than what we got last time. The plate appeared like there wasn't as much sauce. When we dug in, everything was like overcooked or incredibly not fresh. There was like no flavor in the shrimp or the lobster. The crab legs especially the end body part tasted either super over cooked or like a week old crab. Everything looked pale like they didn't use enough sauce. Not as spicy as last time either. We love spice and this was borderline mild. I brought it up to the server and she just shrugged it off and said she would say something. Overall service was lackluster too. She stopped once and ran away. My gloves broke and I was stuck using a fork to eat the rest of the night. Hunted down a server to get another glove but that took forever. Ran out of water pretty quickly. Ended up waiting forever for the check. Honestly 1 star experience. Such a shame, but this was also how the storming crab back in NY did and just went down a negative spiral. We debated about even bringing home the leftovers. Pretty sad. Never had such an experience that went from 5 to 1 stars. Wouldn't recommend coming here if this is how they treat seafood. No attempt to rectify the situation either. read more
