I didn't expect to be in West Mifflin because frankly, I had never heard of this Pittsburgh suburb. However, due to a weather-related glitch on my trip, I found myself staying overnight at the neighboring Holiday Inn Express and wondering where to have dinner. I suppose I could've driven somewhere, but I noticed this roadside Mexican spot was a quick stroll away albeit next to an unlit highway. Speed demons made the darkened walk feel somewhat hazardous, but I was relieved when I found the restaurant bustling with young married couples and kids. The bar was also busy with a lot of denim and plaid among the patrons. As a solo diner, I felt conspicuous since I was seated at the most visible table. The veteran waitress left me a menu and a basket of Mexican puffed wagon wheel chips (Photo 8). Reminding me of Funyuns, I pushed most of them aside because I wasn't a family of four. The menu listed all the familiar gut-busting Mexican favorites you'd expect at a place like this. I decided on the $17 Pollo Cancun because I saw grilled chicken breast, steamed broccoli, and cauliflower in the description. What I conveniently ignored was the phrase, "bathed with white queso dip". What arrived was a bubbling pool of melting cheese in a cast-iron pan topped with a few broccoli and cauliflower florets. The chicken was flattened and still cooking underneath the cheese (Photo 9). There was a separate plate for the Mexican rice (Photo 6), and another one for the iceberg lettuce, tomato slice, sour cream, and three warm flour tortillas wrapped in foil (Photo 10). When I saw all three plates on my table, I was overwhelmed, but I assume the portions are the big draw here. Once I got my routine down of assembling my tacos, they were pretty good. I wish the chicken was fresher but otherwise it was quite edible. My favorite part of the meal though was the $11 Sangria Margarita, a frozen margarita topped off with their house sangria (Photo 5). Simple but it worked. FOOD - 4 stars...better than I expected for family-style Mexican AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...very bright, kinda loudish SERVICE - 4 stars...Rebecca came like clockwork TOTAL - 4 stars...my best meal in West Mifflin, also probably my only one...unless I make it to Kennywood RELATED - Exploring Pittsburgh? Steak and Chorizo burrito

I just dined at Primo's for the second time. It was just as delicious as the first and the service equally as good. This time I ordered a steak and chorizo burrito. It was sooo good! Perfect amount of everything and it came out of the kitchen so fast. This is our new go to restaurant.

Great food. Great spot. We had a nice birthday dinner here for my partners mothers birthday. We had a group of 11 of us and Alicia took care of us like a pro. I highly recommend the queso blanco! The grilled chicken quesadilla was great too. If I lived here I would be a regular. Thanks again Alicia. Thanks for making this birthday for her memorable!

Pictures of the interior of the restaurant. Dip sampler, chicken and shrimp fajita combo

I wanted to try a restaurant that I haven't been to before. I came to Primo's tacos and tequila. The ambiance is nice. Great selection on the menu. I ordered the dip sampler and it was good, I especially enjoyed the cheese dip. I ordered the fajita combo with chicken and shrimp. It was seasoned, hot and fresh. I will be coming back again. This great meal was capped with fried ice cream. Yum!

I have driven passed here so many times and never had the chance to stop. For some reason I thought this place would be more dive bar-y inside but I was shocked to see how beautiful the interior was. There were only a few other tables dining. We were quickly seated and presented with complimentary chicharrones. The food was so, so good and FRESH. I can't wait to go back for dinner and try some of the chefs specialties.

Margarita, weird wagon wheel chips, and three street tacos (just get the shrimp)
    Matt S.

The interior was nice, though it was pretty empty when I went (early in the day). Food was pretty good, though most of it was nothing exceptional- weirdly this is the only casual Mexican place I've been to that did not offer chips and salsa but opted for some sort of wagon wheel chips? Crackers? Some weird thing. Perhaps they're a specialty I've never heard of but they were unpleasant in terms of texture and just above communion wafer in terms of flavor. The hero of this meal was the shrimp street taco, which was so far and away flavorful when compared to the middling other fare that it deserves a visit just to try it. I'm not sure if I would try anything else on the menu, but even as an out of towner I'd make a special trip just for that shrimp! Truly delicious!

    Chori Pollo (to go)

Had a great experience at Primo's! It was my first time visiting and was impressed with the value of the food, the friendly staff, quick service, and atmosphere. Instead of a chips and salsa, chicharrones are provided for the table. They are a good snack before getting your meal. There is an extensive menu of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I tried the Horchata and it was delicious. I personally ate the Fried Chimichanga with shredded beef for my meal, and it was tasty! The queso was good and the sides of beans, rice, lettuce, and tomato complimented the main dish well. The food came out very fast after ordering. I ordered the Chori Pollo to go, and it was good and held up well to travel. I believe on the menu it says that entree should have queso, however there was no queso on the meal. Regardless it tasted great! The server I had was very friendly and kind. She answered any questions I had and gave suggestions when I asked! This is, in my opinion, the best valued Mexican food in the area. The prices were extremely fair, especially considering the food received. Will definitely be back to try a burrito and some of the appetizers!

We heard about this place from friends and the Yelp reviews looked fantastic so we gave it a try. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere was really warm and welcoming with bright colors. We were taken to a nice sized booth right away and got our order in. The puffy chips came for free. We also ordered chips with dips but honestly they were different but also tasty. The meals we got were HUGE. The Primo burritos - I maaaaaybe ate 1/3 of it and I'm still stuffed 2.5 hours later. The cocktails menu looked great - we will try those next time. The absolute only complaint is that it's on a divided road so to go back toward the Century 3 area, we had to find a place to turn. I'm not letting it affect my rating though because it was THAT good.

    Street tacos

I've been wanting to try this new Mexican restaurant. Today was the day as I was already passing it to and from a job interview. So, I stopped for lunch after the interview. Ample parking, nice size interior space, nicely decorated with some artwork on the walls, decent menu, good food, and pleasant service all add up to a good visit. I ordered 2 street tacos at 4 dollars, apiece-- one fish taco (fried) and one carnival taco. Good options. I also ordered shrimp ceviche at 16 dollars. It comes on a large bowl with a spoon and a lot of chips on the side. What I found quite interesting: 1) free appetizer of puffed rings of some sort. Reminds me of cereal? I dunno. Definitely not a chip and definitely not dippable. Weird. Doesn't seem to go with anything. A first ever being served something like this in amy other Mexican restaurant. Not really a fan 2) street tacos served with cucumber slices on the side. That is also a first, but googling says it is a thing. 3) ceviche served with orange slices -- again, a first but googling says not unheard of. Ok... All tasted good. Worth the visit. The menu could use some lunch specials and combos.

This was a nice find. The menu is the kind of thing you would find at most Mexican restaurants in Western Pennsylvania, but some care was clearly put into each dish. The tacos in particular were very nicely done, with a wide variety of fillings available. I especially appreciated the five different vegetarian fillings available on the menu. The salad was good. The Azteca bowl was essentially just the salad served over beans and rice, which was about as advertised. The shrimp fajitas were flavorful and served with very fresh lettuce/tomato and very nicely seasoned refried beans and rice. Even the corn tortillas were very flavorful. We ordered takeout, and it was a great experience overall. The staff were very helpful, and everything was packaged up very nicely. The interior space looked very nice as well, despite the location in a relatively old road-side space previously occupied by another restaurant. This isn't exactly gourmet cuisine or some sort of hip fusion experiment, but it is very nicely done Mexican food. Well worth a visit, if that's what you're looking for.

Upon going to this place we were greeted with friendly people and we decided to sit outside. Once sat we waited a good 10-15 minutes before we got our drinks. We ordered 2 margaritas and I kid you not it was the WORST one I have ever had. It tasted like the sour mix was bad and it was so small it was NOT worth the $12 price tag. I ordered the Burria Burrito for my son. He wanted the guac and fries on the outside of the burrito. Upon getting the burrito it looked good on the outside however the inside was like mush. It was not good. The only thing he actually liked was the burrito shell. For me and my boyfriend we ordered Nachos Asada as our appetizer. It was small and used the same beef as the Burria Burrito. Then as our meal we ordered the Fajitas....they didnt even look like Faijtas..... they looked like they cooked the meat in curry or something. They had the weirdest yellow/orange color. I tasted one bite and instantly almost threw up i literally gagged. This was the worst excuse for mexican food I have EVER had in my life. The only thing that saved anything was the server being nice and comping the fajitas. I will NEVER be back though.
