Mosquitoes. The hotel should be named Hotel Ala Mosquito. We have not opened our windows and yet, we have spent the last HOUR throwing towels and killing mosquitoes in our room. We went front desk and they gave us rose scented wipes so we don't get bit...but they're everywhere!! We've blocked all the drains in the bathroom, have turned the a/c down as low as it will go and we are still killing mosquitoes!! This is unacceptable. Stay somewhere else. The people who work here are nice, but I should not have to spend my vacation killing mosquitoes in my room. I will reiterate again...we did NOT open the windows. Maybe the maids did when they cleaned, but we did not. read more

This is just for the breakfast buffet: We were attending a wedding and needed a breakfast right next to the church beside Hotel Ala. We came in, let them know we wanted breakfast and they were very friendly. For 15 euro per person we have eggs, pancakes, bacon, coffee, croissants, fruit, and quite a bit more. If you've done your research on Hotel Ala, you probably realize that there are mixed reviews on this establishment. This is in part due to which room you are assigned upon check in. As you have probably noticed in the photos, some rooms appear to be more updated than others. Other negative reviews are also based on customer service experience and interaction. Strike 1: Our first interaction with the hotel staff felt extremely cold and calculated. When we inquired about good restaurants to visit, we were ONLY told about the hotel's affiliated restaurant and were not given any other options for consideration. Things really went downhill when we were assigned room 280 (DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 280). This room was much older than the more updated rooms. It was spacious, but had several functional concerns. The concerns included a leaky shower head which caused water to seep out on to the floor, and a broken toilet seat. On the morning after check-in we informed the young woman at the front desk and she appeared to be very preoccupied with another customer. She turned her back as we mentioned a list of our concerns and we were left standing there clueless as to what to do next. Strike 2: When we returned to our room, not one of the problems was addressed. As suspected, our concern was ignored. No surprise, however this does speak volumes about how little customer concerns are valued. On the second and third day, there was still no mention of repairs. Instead we were greeted with a smirk by the same woman who ignored our requests. Strike 3: Two 6:00am alarms went off during our stay. Yes, we value safety. Twice at 6:00am though? The first time was forgivable, but let's not make this a habit. On day four, it looked like someone tried to fix the shower head, but it was still squirting water out all over the wall and floor. We risked falling twice a day after our showers because the entire floor got soaked. The housekeeper did a good job with cleaning up and even left an extra towel near the tub in order to absorb the ever leaking water. Sad that housekeeping is aware of this problem, but the hotel still ignores it AND takes advantage of paying guests, by booking them in rooms that are clearly malfunctioning. Unfortunately, our vacation time spent with Hotel Ala fell short and I hope that others will truly reconsider their options before settling on an establishment such as Hotel Ala. Like many other hotels in Venice, Hotel Ala, is older. Vintage is fine as long as it is functional. Otherwise it just becomes OLD. The breakfast is decent. The breakfast staff is nice, but that is where hospitality ends. There are far better hotels around Venice. Do yourself a favor and book one of those. read more

Overall this place was a good hotel and you got what you paid for. The location was perfect. We took the public boat and it dropped us off basically right in front of the hotel. It's in walking distance to most of the top attractions and has a ton of restaurants and shops near by. The only downfall about this hotel was the shower and WiFi. The shower pressure was very minimal and it went from hot to cold very quickly. The WiFi was awful. It barely worked - you couldn't surf the internet consistently. It kept cutting out. read more

The best free breakfast in Venice. Many Delicious pastries and complete with all cheeses and fruits. We were so impressed with the spread. And to mention private water taxis come to the hotel was a great perk. I would recommend to get the larger rooms. Ours room was kind of snug and small to prepare us for our cruise cabinet. The service was great everyone is kind and helpful. We would stay here again the next time we are back in Venice. Their WiFi was not the best. read more

Beyond delightful! This hotel is conveniently located near a vaporetto, and is perfectly placed about 5-7 minutes away from St. Mark's Square, so you are able to enjoy peace and quiet, and join the fun when you're ready. The hotel is spotless, beautifully decorated, and idyllic. It feels both homey and upscale. The staff is helpful and kind. Plus, you are given a free water taxi ride and entry into the glass blowing factory. What a win! I will definitely stay here again if I have the good fortune of returning to Venice. Firstly, I want to recognize, two of the staff that enhanced our experience at this hotel. Percy, waiter in the dining room and Jury, night shift front desk. They were friendly, kind and made us feel happy to be in Venice and staying in their hotel. The rest of the hotel staff encountered could take lessons on customer service and human compassion. They were not friendly, acted like we were bothering them with a simple question. I gave this hotel 4 stars based on the hotel charm, meaning it's old Venetian, they offered free transport and tours to Murano and Burano (which were awesome and a must visit). Jury told us about it after we came back from dinner on the first night, we were not told about this when we checked it, very disappointing, because we didn't have enough time to cancel the same tour package scheduled the next day! Their breakfast spread was refreshing with freshly baked pastries. Would I come back? Only if the staff treated us like Percy and Jury did!!! read more

I liked staying here. Small, but clean rooms with a nice cafe right outside to hangout and people watch. The front staff were not the friendliest guys, but the maids were exceptionally friendly. This is a GEM !!! Silvia was so very helpful prior to getting there and continued to be a wonderful hostess upon arrival ! Three of us traveling and needed a triple room , the one we got was wonderfully spacious and very very comfortable. The Desk clerks helped with other needs as requested and the guys at the American Bar in the hotel Rey and Damanco are fun fun fun... Would give this more stars if possible but a HIGH 5 is well deserved !!! read more

We stayed in room 301 with a cute view of the courtyard. Our spacious yet simple room was decorated for our honeymoon, which was a thoughtful touch. Shower was great when it worked, but for whatever reason, we lost water during one shower. The outlets were easily shorted out despite the fact that I utilized proper converters/surge protectors that have worked well elsewhere. We had to call twice for shorting our power. Staff varied- Massimo was always friendly and helpful, while others could not be bothered to be friendly. I didn't like that they pushed a nearby restaurant with terrible reviews- it should be the hotel's priority to ensure that guests have a good time rather the. Work the kickbacks from neighboring businesses. One morning a very obnoxious alarm (fire alarm perhaps?!) went off at 7:30, and I read that other guests had a similar unwelcome wake up. Forty we were up anyway and unconcerned thanks to having already read that this happens here. I had a mosquito bite that bled on the sheets a bit (TMI, I know, but it's relevant), and instead of changing the sheets they just spot cleaned them. All of this being said, the breakfasts that are included every morning are surprisingly good, the proximity to St. Mark's is wonderful, the vaporetto stop is extremely convenient, and the price was very reasonable for Venice, so I ultimately still think this hotel is a solid option for tourists who aren't looking for anything fancy and can tolerate some nuisances here and there. read more

The stay at Hotel ALA was an interesting one to say the least. The breakfast every morning was good but they wouldn't allow you to bring it back to your room or they charged you three Euro. The rooms were out dated with several issues with bathroom in RM 280. When I addressed with hotel staff I felt brushed off like my concerns weren't valid. They did have A.C. but television was so so with one English station. ( bring your lap top for entertainment) An accidental fire alarm went off twice during our stay at 6:00 am in the morning also. For the price I'm willing to let this go for $127 per night but would I stay again................ read more

The hotel is in a very good location. It is within a minute walk of the Giglio stop, making it very convenient to take ACTV 1 line to and from the central station. Also from the hotel it's just a 5 minute walk to St. Mark's square. As far as the hotel, the rooms were clean and the wifi was free and worked well in our room. The staff were extremely helpful. One thing to note is that you have to go up one floor using stairs to reach the first floor of rooms or to use the elevator to reach the higher floors. However my wife and I did not mind. If we come back to Venice we would definitely stay here again. read more

Good location, with easy access to airport water shuttle, but otherwise, not much to enjoy here. The room was fine, with working AC. Breakfast was plentiful though not very delicious. Primary thing to note: do NOT do laundry here. It was our fault for not checking prices first but the staff didn't offer the price list to us, even though we asked too different people about the service. Upon check out, we learned that the cost for washing less than 20 small and medium pieces (no special washing or dry cleaning) was over 130 Euros. Very pleasant stay. The hotel is located a few steps away from the Piazza San Marco and the Giglio water station. Very convenient if you're taking the Alilaguna orange line (15 euros) from Marco Polo Airport and are carrying a lot of luggages. They also have a private dock right on the hotel where your private water taxi (70 euros) can drop you off or pick you up from. Marcelo made sure that we got the room we quadruple room we wanted. Jeff, our hard working bell boy, was always willing to help out. Thank you, Rey the bartender, for making sure that my family and friends always have a great time at the bar.
