What an amazing stay! My family used to live in Cape Charles, so it was incredibly fun to come back as a tourist and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. We loved the courtyard and golf carts are a must! The rooms have extra design details that make this feel like a posh getaway. Breakfast is small, but perfect - loved the coffee too. So many hotels say they're dog friendly, but we got extra pup treats for Freckles and she enjoyed her stay too.

Stayed here for one night on our way down to the Outer Banks, NC and it was such a cute boutique hotel with clean, minimalist decorating style. The girl at the front desk explained how they just went through a huge $3M renovation project and the new owners treat the hotel as their own house by paying attention to every detail down to the handmade mattresses they bought from Norfolk, VA (note: very comfortable.) The bath products were organic and smelled great as well. Rooms were very clean, had high ceilings that took a while for the room to cool down, but nothing major. If you're looking for a place to dine we had a great meal at Aqua (driving distance) and then had a drink and enjoyed the live music at Kelly's pub (a block away!) Ned (the hotel manager) and Roxy (the dog) were awesome, and very, very friendly. The complimentary breakfast spread they had in the morning had great healthy options like greek yogurt, detox teas and yummy granola! Would definitely recommend!!

Nice place to stay. It's on Main Street in the heart of all the action. The room had high ceilings ...maybe 12'? Overall it was a clean modern space. The room lacked a coffee maker and microwave, the wood door to the fridge dragged on the flor making an awful noise. The key card door was a little finicky, Ice machine only on the second floor was very low capacity, the third floor patio had two chairs and no tables and no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Overall, is it overpriced for what it is? Absolutely. But it's the only game in town. I'd do Air BnB if I had it to do over again.

Open concept with high ceilings & "view" into the bathroom

Quick getaway for the weekend, and this was perfect! We called Friday for a one night reservation for Saturday and they were very accommodating. Upon entering we were immediately greeting by Ned, and that was the beginning of a great stay. The hotel was what I consider "Cozy Modern" that is kid (colorful eating area with high chairs, beanbags, baskets of crayons & an art wall to doodle on) and pet (dogs can stay too) friendly with ultra warm, modern decor. We stayed in a suite with a king bed and balcony with access to the courtyard- venturing down to the courtyard we discovered a nice lounging area, beach chairs to borrow for your trip to the beach and outside showers to wash away the beach sand. Cape Charles Hotel is located in such a quaint small town with lots of eateries within walking distance. This is hands down the best place to stay and we will be back!

My wife said the lady working in the office was very nice and friendly. The room was adequately clean for the overnight fee. By that, I mean, it's not a place I would prefer to stay in a 2nd night. There was some road noise in the room. The room needs a thorough cleaning. The fabric chair was very stained and should be avoided. The shower walls were stained. The toilet bowl was leaking because every 5 minutes, the tank was refilling. The microwave did not work. The curtain was too small to block the light from the room. Pulling back the covers, I was greeted with a hair under the covers and a stain on the bed sheet. Most of all, the heat did not work and we visited at the end of December. I suppose they must have known the heat did not work because in the corner of the room, there was a portable space heater. After about an hour of running the space heater, the room temperature became tolerable. Our options for a hotel was limited by the fact that we had our dog. So we're very appreciative that this hotel allows dogs and this cannot be understated. This is also a reason we stayed since we arrived in the late evening. We could deal with it for a 1-night stay.

I have previously stayed here a few years ago.  My experience was good, so I decided to stay again…read morethis past weekend, August 9-10, 2025.  Big mistake and never again.  I looked at traveler photos from 2018 and 2019 and those photos were accurate.  This place used to be very nice - no complaints. Please know that my photos are 2025 and VERY accurate also. The location is good, because I was visiting to handle a situation in the lower part of the county.  The person who checked me in was pleasant.  She was a young lady and we even laughed about me not bringing my pet because the purpose of the trip was to get a break from him.  Check-in/out was very easy.  No complaints. The room (costs $244 per night):  Horrible.  The beautiful headboard and footboard from previous photos are gone and were replaced with some decorative, cheap board.  The bed is VERY low and when my sister pulled up the mattress, she saw that there was no box spring, only a white board.  Yes, a white board under the mattress.  In addition, the pillows couldn't have been any cheaper or flatter, so our sleep was awful.  The mattresses were thin and hard and we all woke up with sore bodies. The kitchen:  No way would I have cooked anything in this kitchen.  The burners not only had crumbs, but were filthy.  The toaster also had crumbs.  I pulled it away from the wall and there was a dead roach behind it. Surprisingly, the refrigerator was clean, and we only kept water in it because the bottles were closed.  If a kitchen is being cleaned, how do you overlook the dead roach? The bathroom:  Beware!  The tub is high and there are NO grab bars.  To make matters worse, the tub is slippery.  If you run water in the sink, the drain is super slow and takes a while to go down the drain.  The towels and washcloths are flat, and need to be replaced.  Luckily, the water was hot and the shower was decent because after the horrible sleep the night before, we needed a good shower to make the 4.5hr drive back to Maryland. This is an honest review.  I hope you take heed and stay away.  The owners are well aware that they are running a dump, so if you decide to cut your stay short and leave early, they do not provide refunds!! I can't even imagine anyone staying here, even if they know it's a dump because the price is reasonable.  The price is outrageous for this

The room we're staying in is really run down. Didn't look like anyone cleaned the room, the tub has a HUGE disgusting stain on it, there were flies and a BIG OL SPIDER. Unfortunately we don't have anywhere else to go since we already paid. We had no choice but to go get a bottle of lysol and disinfect the whole entire room. If the room wasn't bad enough, on their website it said they had a pool and free continental breakfast but I was just informed that the pool wouldn't be opening until some time in June (it's literally memorial weekend so it's crazy that it's not open) and they don't have the continental breakfast until some time in June as well. This is FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. If they only have breakfast during certain times of the year then say that on your website. If the pool isn't opening memorial weekend like 99% of other hotels do, then say that! Don't waste your time at this place. I'm sure there are other better hotel/motels to stay at around here.

Since I didn't need to be at my conference in Virginia Beach until Monday, I figured I'd spend a…read morecouple of days in the Kiptopeke area to get some fishing in. The choices were camping or staying at a hotel. I didn't feel like loading my car up with camping, fishing and trade-show stuff, so I checked Yelp for reviews. Sunset Resort didn't have anything available, but the Kiptopeke Inn had plenty of rooms open and was comparably priced. The rooms face outside, and my first impression was, hey this is where Earl (My Name is Earl) lives! The room had an identical set up. Tip: Be sure to fully close your curtains or what happens in your room is there for all to see. Nothing special about the room other than there is no bedside clock. I had my cell phone, but it is always nice to wake up, roll over and see the time without having to pick your phone up. There is a microwave and a fridge in there. Flat screen TV, although it is satellite TV, so the channels are limited and some are kinda fuzzy. No plates, napkins or utensils in the room. The pool looked nice, I didn't swim, but it was nicely lit at night. So why the two stars? Well, first of all, this is a $70 per night hotel. I paid (with fees and taxes) ~$150. The breakfast buffet is woeful. Several mini bagels, a few pastries, some mini muffins in plastic and not much else. Yeah, there was coffee and juice, but the cups aren't much bigger than shot glasses. I overheard some other guests say the hotel wasn't ready for prime time and that they had no hot water in their shower. At least mine was ok! After I was out fishing all day, I came back to take a shower and found although my bed was made, they hadn't replenished the tiny shampoos. After my shower I went down to the front desk to get one so I would be able to wash my hair in the morning. They were out of them (which is probably why they didn't resupply my room). To their credit, I found two shampoo containers outside of my room in the morning. So, overall, if this had been a $70 per night place, 4 stars, because my expectations would have been in line with the price (value). But given how short they fell compared to a Marriott at the same price, there is work to be done. I wouldn't dream of staying here again at the current price.
