Our after-9pm check-in was met with Southern charm and kindness, as well as every interaction with staff and locals during our stay. A perfect location with our room having a balcony overlooking the quaint street and ships on the water. Our room, 206, was very clean. That's the part that got the rating to a 3. The bed was very uncomfortable. In the morning, we went to breakfast at 9 am. There was nothing left except yogurt that was just sitting out in a bowl. I made the front desk aware and the man that had been standing there went to let the staff know. No response. No replenishing. No communication. If you are going to charge over $300 a night, care about your customers. Having stayed at boutique hotels here and in the UK, the skimpy breakfast option provided was disappointing.....well, it was nonexistent. Cereal and fruit were empty. I don't expect a European spread, but a simple continental breakfast was, in fact, part of the reservation. We finally just left. Post-survey, nobody followed up. Customer service was so terrible (other than the people working the front desk). The front desk team was helpful and professional. So, clean room and front desk team was great, comfort and customer service were nonexistent. Not a good experience AT ALL. read more

Not a good value. Hotel staff member Bobbie was wonderful and very helpful when we checked in, but we were disappointed with the stay. We reserved a large room with a kitchenette so friends could come to our room. It was more like a lift apartment than a hotel room and at first we were impressed. After selling in however, the room was just not comfortable. There was only an Illy espresso maker in the room, no regular coffee or regular sized coffee cups. They provided only 2 packets of sugar and no creamer at all. Dishes and glassware were all hidden in the dishwasher, so we didn't even know we had them. No paper products were provided in the kitchen. It was just weird. It felt as though the owners/managers have never actually stayed at a hotel and do not know what is usually provided in even a budget hotel! Floors were terazzo and extremely cold. For the cost of the room, they should at least provide disposable slippers. The TV remotes did not work well and it was almost impossible to change channels. Beds were very firm and sheets were scratchy. Definitely not the bedding you would expect in a room that costs almost $400/ night. The included breakfast was very minimal. Fruit, a big bowl of yogurt, instant oatmeal, and dry cereal. We opted not to eat because we do not trust that yogurt in hotel serving areas has been kept cold. This hotel passes itself off as a luxury property, but definitely falls short. I would not stay again. Other properties in Cape Charles are a much better value and much more comfortable. read more

Recommended this hotel to family/friends as we gathered for nearby wedding. Never been here before. Hotel itself was nice and welcoming. Communication however was poor. Asked several questions on initial on line reservation several months in advance, incl request for early ck-in, since wedding rehearsal was later in afternoon. Never answered. Ended up having 10+ rooms reserved due to my recommendation. Arrived early as expected with no room available. Returned in 90 mins and room was ready with a $50 early ck-in fee! really.? Asked front desk to waive since I had asked for this when making reservation and noted 10 other rooms were reserved due to me. A man appeared in doorway behind the desk never saying anything. Desk rep said she couldn't do so. Asked to review with manager. Later discovered the Manager was the guy in the doorway who never said a word.....'GM Jawn Randolph'. He later reluctantly waived the fee. However, they never said a word about the hotel's TV service having problems. Once in room, TV displayed a frozen screen of optional TV services available....nothing was selectable. Returned to room later in evening after rehearsal dinner to find TV still frozen. At 11 PM still frozen and TV would not turn off. After trying everything, had to remove from wall to unplug...was just hanging on the wall bracket. Next morning I reconnected the TV and rehung with same frozen screen as before. While having coffee in the lobby I overheard several other guests complaining about the TV service. I then mentioned to front desk we had the same issue and had to remove and unplug TV the prior night. 'Jawn', standing nearby, aggressively ran up the steps to check on TV...I had told him I re-plugged it in and same frozen screen remained. He returned saying TV was OK and Power-off now worked, but still having signal failure. We had reserved a 3rd night so we could relax and watch Sunday NFL games. But TV still not working. We asked the night front desk rep about it and they said we'd get some type of refund, maybe the 3rd night at no charge. No one was at front desk when we checked out...just saying 'someone would be back shortly'. Left a note that we checked out and wanted to know what refund we can expect. After 2 days still nothing in response. Sent email to inquire. Jawn writes back and says there will be no refund since we damaged the TV by removing and rehanging on the wall. UNBELIEVABLE! Called immediately on phone and spoke to Jawn who restated his bold-face lie. Apparently my action was responsible for the entire hotel tv service failure which was occurring before I checked in. Jawn was extremely rude with baseless claims. I have never experienced such outrageous bad behavior of a 'Manager'. He ended up hanging up on me as I continued to debunk his claims. It's a shame the hotel is served so poorly by this individual. It was a nice hotel in an idyllic town. But having a hotel-wide service failure certainly calls for some type of recognition to all the guests who suffered from lack of this key amenity to every hotel stay. Shame on Jawn. The hotel Owner should examine his manager who demonstrated a personality that surely has affected many guests over time. I also noticed that employees seemed to cower anytime Jawn was nearby. What an amazing stay! My family used to live in Cape Charles, so it was incredibly fun to come back as a tourist and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. We loved the courtyard and golf carts are a must! The rooms have extra design details that make this feel like a posh getaway. Breakfast is small, but perfect - loved the coffee too. So many hotels say they're dog friendly, but we got extra pup treats for Freckles and she enjoyed her stay too. read more

I had planned a little getaway with my wife and our dog in connection with a business trip to the Eastern Shore. Unfortunately, circumstances changed so I was there by myself. The staff was very nice and the room, itself, #13, was nice also. However, the courtyard view was actually a view of a large expanse of black roof festooned with exhaust fans, antennas and other industrial looking stuff. It was most unattractive, and I think the windows in that room should be frosted so that a guest doesn't have to see it but can get natural light in the room. I though it was way over priced at almost $250/night. Cape Charles is a great town and was glad to have visited by boat for two nights just a couple of weeks before my stay at the Hotel read more

Stayed here for one night on our way down to the Outer Banks, NC and it was such a cute boutique hotel with clean, minimalist decorating style. The girl at the front desk explained how they just went through a huge $3M renovation project and the new owners treat the hotel as their own house by paying attention to every detail down to the handmade mattresses they bought from Norfolk, VA (note: very comfortable.) The bath products were organic and smelled great as well. Rooms were very clean, had high ceilings that took a while for the room to cool down, but nothing major. If you're looking for a place to dine we had a great meal at Aqua (driving distance) and then had a drink and enjoyed the live music at Kelly's pub (a block away!) Ned (the hotel manager) and Roxy (the dog) were awesome, and very, very friendly. The complimentary breakfast spread they had in the morning had great healthy options like greek yogurt, detox teas and yummy granola! Would definitely recommend!! read more

Charming and unique bay hotel. Reappropriated old building with lots of charm. Very quiet on 2nd floor. Staff very friendly. Room could have been better supplied. Found a lot of finger prints all over the fridge and shiny surfaces. Bed way too soft for one of us. A yoga mat fixed that. But it reminded us of our former NYC loft apartment and we were happy and would stay here again. Very relaxed during a trying pandemic. We'd just bring our own supplies (paper towels, dish soap, forks, spoons etc.) All in all, we'd stay here again. Love that Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Love the Oyster Farm Eatery just down the road. Nice place to stay. It's on Main Street in the heart of all the action. The room had high ceilings ...maybe 12'? Overall it was a clean modern space. The room lacked a coffee maker and microwave, the wood door to the fridge dragged on the flor making an awful noise. The key card door was a little finicky, Ice machine only on the second floor was very low capacity, the third floor patio had two chairs and no tables and no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Overall, is it overpriced for what it is? Absolutely. But it's the only game in town. I'd do Air BnB if I had it to do over again. read more

Quick getaway for the weekend, and this was perfect! We called Friday for a one night reservation for Saturday and they were very accommodating. Upon entering we were immediately greeting by Ned, and that was the beginning of a great stay. The hotel was what I consider "Cozy Modern" that is kid (colorful eating area with high chairs, beanbags, baskets of crayons & an art wall to doodle on) and pet (dogs can stay too) friendly with ultra warm, modern decor. We stayed in a suite with a king bed and balcony with access to the courtyard- venturing down to the courtyard we discovered a nice lounging area, beach chairs to borrow for your trip to the beach and outside showers to wash away the beach sand. Cape Charles Hotel is located in such a quaint small town with lots of eateries within walking distance. This is hands down the best place to stay and we will be back! read more

This was a great little hotel in downtown cape charles. Big open, modern, and clean rooms. Tons of space and huge bathrooms. Only downside was that the usable vanity space is small. Tight for two people trying to get ready. The main area and breakfast area was large, open and clean. They have coffee, teas, juices, cereal, yogurt etc that are complimentary. The staff was extremely friendly, informative, and accommodating. It was a downpour while we were there and they had multiple umbrellas for us to use to get to shops/restaurants. As a huge cudos, their mattresses and bedding were so comfortable. Plush, cushy and comfy. I slept like a baby. Room rates were pricey for off season I thought, but it is a beautiful little town and the rooms were worth it based on other places we have stayed for the same money. read more

My husband and I just returned from our stay at Hotel Cape Charles and we highly recommend it. A great staff - all were very accommodating, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. WOW!! This is Tipper the traveling dog again and I want you to know how special this Hotel is. I was invited everywhere and the Hotel staff was very attentive helpful throughout my whole stay. The room was comfy, the free grab and go breakfast was enjoyable and most of all the Hotel was right in the middle of town, making my morning walks very enjoyable. This is a great bay side get away beach town of the beaten path. The beach was a short walk down the street and provided plenty of spaced to set back and relax. The hotel knew the area and made several great recommendations for restaurants. We will most defiantly come back. read more

Just stayed here for the 4th of July weekend with our preschool - aged daughter l. We were in one of the Loft rooms. First off, the staff is awesome. We were welcomed the moment we arrived, and that didn't change the whole time we were there. Our thanks to them for all the advice and help making our vacation a relaxing one. The room was, in short, gorgeous and spotless. No loaner beds for kids, but we just brought an inflatable one that was promptly ignored by our little one who preferred to join us in the comfy, king-sized bed. Can't say I blame her. The room had a full kitchen stocked with plates, pans, glasses, large mini-fridge, etc. We could see parked trains from the window, which made our daughter happy. the bathroom is big and also gorgeous (though as a practical matter a couple more hooks to hang up wet stuff would have been helpful). The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast of cereal, yogurt, and coffee, which was perfect for us. The bright breakfast area turns into a gathering space for the rest of the day, with games and a big section of wall set up for dry erase markers. If you want to go to the beach, they have beach chairs and towels you can borrow and outdoor showers if you want to avoid bringing sand into your room when you get back from the beach. If it's pouring rain, they have umbrellas you can borrow. (Did I mention the staff is awesome?) The beach is walking distance from the hotel, and we went there often. Lots of sand. Lots of beach, and plenty of room to set up and chill. The water is warm and shallow enough for a good distance out that it works well for kids. In town there's not a huge number of restaurants, so that kitchen came in handy. There is pretty a good ice cream shop though, and they do a baby cone for little ones. There's also a playground and park within walking distance of the hotel if you need a break from sandcastles and seashells. I'll also say that as a multiracial family we fit in around just fine. The 4th celebration was fun, with music, food, a fishing competition for kids, and fireworks. A crowd of people, but not overwhelming at all. Even though it was late enough we watched the fireworks from our hotel room (kind of awkward, but it worked), it was a lot of fun. So, both the town and hotel are recommended for a visit. Amazing experience: We were heading south to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel and I decided to call when we were about three hours away. The phone was answered promptly and the customer service experience was great. The gentleman let me know how booked they were and that he would keep an we out for us. I call an hour away to reserve, he took the verbal commitment and when we arrived he upgraded us and we got an amazing room. It was immaculate with a comfortable king size bed and great architectural details. There was even a light switch by the bed that turned the main lights on and off without getting up. A very nice detail when you decide it is time to sleep. We had a nice balcony overlooking the street and we could see the water as well. He recommended a local restaurant with tasty food and a local ice cream shop which was also very good. The provided breakfast of yogurt and granola was fresh and good. The coffee was also good. I recommend staying here and soaking up the modern charm. read more

We have come to Hotel Cape Charles for a glorious weekend at the beach for three years now. It was always a wonderful experience but sadly this year it went downhill. The rooms are still large and lovely and the beds are so comfy, but the staff was not as welcoming, the breakfast was really pretty sparse, they don't offer free beach chairs anymore, and we never had our room cleaned. Must have changed owners. We still enjoyed our visit- after all it's only 3 blocks from the most spectacular beach- but we are honestly pretty disappointed with the quality decline at the hotel. In a word: Perfect. Ned (manager) is one of the friendliest and most welcoming folks we have ever met. The rooms are HUGE and very hip - this is not a holiday inn, it's so much better. You feel at home here, not like a tourist in a motel. There is nothing I can think of that they can do differently, or fix. Didn't even realize it, but they have a couple rooms for reservation that allow small dogs - otherwise, you feel like a rock star at this place. From making my reservation, to checking in, to staying, to checking out, every staff person was incredibly pleasant, helpful and cheerful. The style is clean and modern - even the hallway is pretty! They offer complimentary beach towels and beach chairs. The rooms are comfortably sized with a variety of interesting features - exposed brick, high ceilings, balconies, nice toiletries, etc. Spotlessly clean, which must be difficult considering how much sand people must bring in with them. I am very disappointed in the hotels cancellation policy. We tried to cancel due to the hurricane weather conditions this weekend and there hotel cancellation policy is you must cancel 14 days in advance for any type of refund since you are required to pay in full when you make the reservation they have our money. Can't speak for the hotel itself because we didn't get to stay there. Had reservations, but a tropical storm hit the same weekend. Besides not being enjoyable to go there in the rain, it wasn't safe with the flooding and the high winds meant travel across the Bay Bridge-Tunnel was restricted. All the manager would say was "oh well, try to stay dry and bring a parcheesi board." He wouldn't even consider moving our reservation to another weekend, let alone a refund. We were very excited to stay there, but instead we're out over $500, and due to that rude manager, they'll never see our business again. It's too bad, because we were going to make that a regular getaway place. read more

Stayed here over the weekend while in Cape Charles for the first time. It's a really cute, contemporary, almost "boutique" like hotel. Hotel was clean and staff was friendly, but the hotel itself was very basic. No real amenities. No pool, no bar, no room service. They offer a basic free breakfast of juice, coffee and cereal, and free WiFi, but that's about it. The beds weren't that great - ours had dents in them where people have slept over the years so you kind of just roll into them no matter what. We did have a small balcony that overlooked the main street, which was nice to sit on first thing in the morning. The only thing is, if your neighbor is out on theirs trying to enjoy a peaceful moment, they are so close that you're pretty much in each other's space. I'd most likely stay here again if visiting Cape Charles as it's the nicest hotel within walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Cape Charles for one night and had a very enjoyable stay. Upon arrival the greeting by the front desk was outstanding as they introduced us to the hotel and the town. The hotel was very nicely decorated and the rooms felt modern and fresh. The amenities including the morning breakfast, private rooftop decks, and courtyard seating areas rounded out the hotel. The hotel is a beacon of security and life in a nice beach town begging for some additional revitalization. The only items I can mention to improve would be the pillows. This problem is so frequent in hotels I usually bring my own. I forgot this evening and I paid the price with a restless sleep. Its and easy fix and with the advertised hand made mattresses being so comfortable it was a shame the pillows were weak. Also, While our room was spotless and felt clean a minor oversight in leaving a half full used bottle of body lotion in the hotel provided bath products encouraged us to look a little closer at everything. I would like some to go cups available for the morning coffee but maybe I missed them, I was in a hurry. Overall, our stay was very good and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. read more

We had a cute balcony but the rain prevented us from enjoying it. The staff was very helpful and friendly: offering umbrellas to borrow, great restaurant recommendations, and an interesting history about the hotel and town.
