We had a 1-night stay here for a stopover that my wife planned and booked. The location was right off the main road and they have a well lit parking lot. My wife said the lady working in the office was very nice and friendly. The room was adequately clean for the overnight fee. By that, I mean, it's not a place I would prefer to stay in a 2nd night. There was some road noise in the room. The room needs a thorough cleaning. The fabric chair was very stained and should be avoided. The shower walls were stained. The toilet bowl was leaking because every 5 minutes, the tank was refilling. The microwave did not work. The curtain was too small to block the light from the room. Pulling back the covers, I was greeted with a hair under the covers and a stain on the bed sheet. Most of all, the heat did not work and we visited at the end of December. I suppose they must have known the heat did not work because in the corner of the room, there was a portable space heater. After about an hour of running the space heater, the room temperature became tolerable. Our options for a hotel was limited by the fact that we had our dog. So we're very appreciative that this hotel allows dogs and this cannot be understated. This is also a reason we stayed since we arrived in the late evening. I have previously stayed here a few years ago.  My experience was good, so I decided to stay again this past weekend, August 9-10, 2025.  Big mistake and never again.  I looked at traveler photos from 2018 and 2019 and those photos were accurate.  This place used to be very nice - no complaints. Please know that my photos are 2025 and VERY accurate also. The location is good, because I was visiting to handle a situation in the lower part of the county.  The person who checked me in was pleasant.  She was a young lady and we even laughed about me not bringing my pet because the purpose of the trip was to get a break from him.  Check-in/out was very easy.  No complaints. The room (costs $244 per night):  Horrible.  The beautiful headboard and footboard from previous photos are gone and were replaced with some decorative, cheap board.  The bed is VERY low and when my sister pulled up the mattress, she saw that there was no box spring, only a white board.  Yes, a white board under the mattress.  In addition, the pillows couldn't have been any cheaper or flatter, so our sleep was awful.  The mattresses were thin and hard and we all woke up with sore bodies. The kitchen:  No way would I have cooked anything in this kitchen.  The burners not only had crumbs, but were filthy.  The toaster also had crumbs.  I pulled it away from the wall and there was a dead roach behind it. Surprisingly, the refrigerator was clean, and we only kept water in it because the bottles were closed.  If a kitchen is being cleaned, how do you overlook the dead roach? The bathroom:  Beware!  The tub is high and there are NO grab bars.  To make matters worse, the tub is slippery.  If you run water in the sink, the drain is super slow and takes a while to go down the drain.  The towels and washcloths are flat, and need to be replaced.  Luckily, the water was hot and the shower was decent because after the horrible sleep the night before, we needed a good shower to make the 4.5hr drive back to Maryland. This is an honest review.  I hope you take heed and stay away.  The owners are well aware that they are running a dump, so if you decide to cut your stay short and leave early, they do not provide refunds!! Our room had bed bugs. The website said the management office is open until 11p daily; we tried getting help at 930p but the office was closed and the phone didn't forward at all so we had to find our own lodging almost at midnight. We had to throw away a lot of our stuff (including luggage) and spent a bunch of time and money the next day cleaning what we could and quarantining what we kept but couldn't launder. The manager called and apologized the next day and said he issued a refund. Because the booking site is weird, the refund request didn't go through. I circled back a couple of times to say that I needed documentation to get the refund going, but he's refused to provide it, stating he already did to the booking company. He's been very rude and is reticent to provide even a copy of the agreement I signed upon check-in. I guess he thinks I'm trying to scam him, but I don't understand how me asking for a copy of a document that I'm entitled to as well as a piece of paper saying that he approves a refund is a scam. If you stay here, you'll pay for your own bed bugs. read more

Could not have had a worse experience at the service desk. First he was rude to my wife when she went into the office to check in because she did not bring her ID in with her. When I went in he was just as rude. Upon giving him my ID and Credit card he informed me that they did not have a room for me. Even though I booked a pet friendly room the room they had was not pet friendly.. we would not allow me to use it and refused to refund my money that they had already applied to my credit card. I had to call my credit card company and challenge the charges. He had no sympathy and could care less about working with me. Very Rude Individual. read more

My kids and I have been coming for many years to visit the Kiptopeke State Park. Over the years, the quality of this hotel has been up and down but this year's trip has been the worst. The kitchen had no oven pans, no cutting board, and zero pots. They had 2 frying pans, one of which was also scratched up. One of the plates (they only had 2 small plates and a couple mismatching large plates) was also cracked. When I went to ask for a pot to make some rice, the lady at the front desk came back with 2 pots. One pot was so nasty it couldn't be used. The smaller pot was usable but no lid. When I asked if she had a pot with a lid, she said no in a nasty way and seemed annoyed that a paying guest was asking questions. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

BETTER THAN WE EXPECTED. Not only was this place super adorable, and clean looking from the outside, but the staff was absolutely exceptional! Checking in was super easy, and we were greeted by two adorably friendly doggies! The people who checked us in were super friendly. Housekeeping was a dream. I happened to be outside smoking, when they came out from cleaning another room just to ask "did you need anything? Any extra towels while I'm up here?" UMMM HELLO ATTENTIVE! Love it. Hotel itself was cleaner than I thought. I used to clean houses on the side, so I'm always super judgmental about where we stay, and when I tell you every corner was spotless, I mean it. Huge fridge. New microwave, and great counter space. Full kitchen, with everything you need. This will be our go to everytime we come back up here. Pet friendly, and my dog loved it! read more

We didn't arrive until after 9 at night so when we woke up this morning we explored a little around the property and it is very kid friendly. Here for two nights. Affordable, clean, functional rooms. It is not very far from downtown Cape Charles and offers convenience with two Queen sized beds, descent sheets, large bathroom and kitchenette. The from desk staff was kind and suggested several places and things to do. One thing that we were not crazy about was the loud air conditioning unit. What a sweet find this was. I wanted to stay in Cape Charles with my son on the way to the beach. It looked like a nice town with lots of fishing nearby. I read all the reviews I could find of each hotel in the area. This one had a slew of negative reviews but then a string of excellent ones due to new ownership. I booked online directly at their website (they weren't listed on Orbitz). I got a rate of $119. We had a pleasant drive down from Baltimore and arrived hungry. At check-in, we were informed there was a special and our room had been discounted to $109. We had a 2nd floor, end room with 2 queens. The room looked brand new. Nice TV, huge kitchen. Wow. I asked the manager what the deal was with the bad reviews. He told me the building had been constructed for condos, each individually metered, multiple septic systems, etc... Unfortunately, after building it, they couldn't get zoning approved. Hmmm, I think if it were me, I would have worked on zoning before sinking all that money in... The owner became bitter and treated guests like crap. Suffice to say, she sold out after two years to the current owners. They are fisherman friendly. The manager told of this killer local seafood place called The Shanty (which we tried and I'll write a separate review of - it was awesome as well). Fishing was outstanding at Kiptopeke (http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/kip.shtml) lots of flounder. The pier pass includes your VA fishing license for $3. This place is surprisingly nice. It is very clean, huge bedroom, full kitchen where I was able to cook up some breakfast. Parking right outside your door. My kids and I loved it and would stay there again. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is because the vending room and front office lobby could use a touch up and look more inviting. Came to the area for a couple of nights of camping, only to be waylaid by torrential flooding rains. Found this hotel with generally good reviews, which proved to be accurate, clean room, decent amenities. Was looking forward to the consolation of settling in for the evening and watching the opening NFL weekend Monday night doubleheader, only to discover that ESPN is not one of the provided networks. HBO - yes, ESPN -no. Are you kidding? Wouldn't have chosen to start here if we had known that. Crazy. read more

Let me start by saying I would give this hotel zero stars if that were even possible. This hotel was in one word, disgusting. My friends and I legitimately had to sleep on towels we brought for the beach as the cleanliness of the beds didn't seem very good. The room had a weird smell and when management was made aware, they said it was an air freshener they used. None of us believed it for a second because it smelled like rotten cantaloupe. There was rust all over the door of the fridge. Finally, the toaster looked like someone legitimately used the bathroom inside of it. For anyone with a dog, drive the extra 45 minutes to Norfolk, Virginia and stay at the Sheraton. They are dog friendly also, and they most certainly will give you a better experience. All in all, this hotel was a terrible experience, and one that my friends and I most certainly would like to forget all together. read more

This place is surprisingly nice! Looking at the images online, I didn't expect a whole lot, but a budget place to spend a couple of nights. The room is well-kept, clean and has all amenities we need for a short stay! The staff is pleasant. I don't have pets, but I like dogs and i was greeted by a five month old puppy when I arrived. I'd imagine this to be a great place for pet owners to stay with their pets. If I had to pick on one thing, it would be that the blinds over the windows do not block the light well and it may be more suitable to have blackout curtains. read more

Seeing as though on booking.com I selected the "After midnight" check in option I wasn't happy with this. Will not be returning and do not recommend. This place is terrible the fridge was all scratched up,the tv didn't work, we turned the ac off and there was still noise! The carpet looked disgusting, and the sheets on both beds had questionable stains, walls were thin and you could hear everything outside! Even the lock on the door looked faulty we tested it and it seemed to work but I if u pulled on it really hard I'm sure the door would open easily overall this place was awful in the way of the rooms read more

We were in need of a hotel room at last minute on the Eastern Shore because our campsite up the road was too windy to set up our tent and we were late getting in. The place is immaculately clean, spacious and beautiful rooms with full kitchens and dining room table. My husband & I loved this place. We are planning a trip back just the 2 of us for a weekend. Clean rooms with kitchenettes. Built in 2008 but rooms and beds are in good shape and on the large size as is the bathroom. They allow pets but charge a $50 per stay which is high if your only staying one night. The double room cost us $89 plus about $9 in taxes plus the pet fee. Not a lot of options in this area and they keep a clean we'll run place. If your driving through and tired you should stay. If your visiting the area the big rooms and kitchens will be good accommodations for you. read more

Within five or so miles from downtown Cape Charles, Shore Stay Suites is close enough to drive in, check out the sights, shops and restaurants, then come back to your comfortable, immaculate and charming room. Catch the sunrise (should you be a morning person) from the eastern side of the balcony with its picnic tables waiting for you to enjoy your morning coffee, or watch the gorgeous sunset from the western side at one of the tables down at that end. The innkeepers, Alice and Tracy LaCroix could not be more welcoming and by the time you've checked in and gotten your keys, you feel like they are old friends. Also remember to get a snuggle and kiss from their newest addition, Charlie, a pup of 5 weeks when we where there. This place is a winner! read more

I love this motel! I go to Eastern Shore Virginia at least once or twice a year and Shore Stay Suites is always the first choice over the Peacock which is horrible, Sunset Beach Resort and other surrounding motels. The rooms are super spacious, they all have two queen size beds, flat screen TVs, and a kitchen! The only thing I wish this motel had was a swimming pool, if it did, I would give this place 5 stars hands down. That kinda sucks for me in the summer when I stay in VA because my family and I love to go swimming and would have to choose the crappier, very outdated, horrible hospitality a few miles south to Sunset Beach Resort. (Don't get me started with them, I can go for hours about that pile of garbage they call a resort hotel). I usually just make the sacrifice and choose Shore Stay Suites because they have what all of the other motels don't have and that's luxury and it's not even overly priced. It's about $130 a night here and the Peacock across the street advertises that they are $70. You will get only one bed and if you want 2, that's now $100 a night. The rooms look like shit, no space, no kitchen, and the bathroom is the size of a porta potty. Not unless you need somewhere to lay your head and that's all, I don't understand why not choose Shore Stay Suites. read more

I don't think i have ever wrote a bad review of anything, UNTIL NOW!! This Shore Stay Suites hotel says that it is "fisherman friendly". Before booking this hotel i called down to make sure they had room to park a boat. "Sure we have had 12 boats parked here at one time in the past", the person who answered the phone said. A lot of people (fisherman) that visit in this area are from out of town. We came down fishing for the day, as a storm was brewing we decided to get off the water and go to the hotel. Upon arriving there were 4 dogs and a woman playing ball in the yard. I pulled up in front of the hotel in the EMPTY parking spots and asked one guy to go check in and see where we can park the boat. So he went to ask him and the response back was "I do know one thing, he cant park it there" in a very rude and disrespectful voice. Maybe he was having a bad day we thought? We all have those. So he checked in and we got some stuff out of the truck and the boat and my 12 yr old son took his bag of clothes inside. We had a couple of fish to clean. There was this 20 yr old, rotting picnic table that was at the end of the parking lot. It looked like no one has even been out there in years. We started to clean one fish on the table (there is a water hose right there). Here came the manager i guess. He says "I guess you don't know how to read, in your check-in papers it says no fish cleaning" I apologized and said no problem. He says "and don't you dare throw those fish in the dumpster". The dumpster smelled already like there were 10 deer carcasses and guts thrown in there. At this point he was being a total JERK. We had a cooler with food we brought down to put in the refrigerator. He then proceeds to provoke an argument and says "You cant take that cooler in the room with you either" in a very argumentative voice. And then proceeds to say "If you don't like it then you can leave and i will give you your money back" No problem, I said. I asked my son to go get the stuff that he took into the room and put it back in the truck. I walked in the room for the first time to make sure we had everything, the manager followed me in there and tried to provoke an argument, if he really was worried about the cleanliness of the hotel he could have replaced the refrigerator that had rust coming thru the metal. Next we wanted to make sure that he was going to indeed did credit our card back so i asked him. He said "I will take care of it" in a very hostile way. So i asked if he could do it while we were still there and once again he said "I said i will take care of it" in a more hostile manner. So upon leaving we went inside the office to just make sure he was going to credit the card and he says "I will credit it all back but a $50 administrative fee" . REALLY an administrative fee? That is not what you said while outside being a total JERK. There was a reason that there were only 2 other cars in the lot when we got there. We found that out very quickly. I guess he needed that $50 for another meal, cause it surely didn't look like he missed any. For someone to act like he did from the moment we arrived to the 5 total minutes that we were there is very unacceptable. Especially when there are other places in the area that want your business. Beware of booking online! This looked like a good place to stay on a recent trip up thru the eastern shore. We booked a room online in the early afternoon and received an email confirmation (with a confirmation number). Upon arriving around 7 pm, we were told they had been booked all day and had no rooms available. The girl at the front desk was exceptionally unhelpful and not friendly and offered us no help in finding another room. The next day we received an email from the manager apologizing and offering us a free room for the following night, but we had already left the area for our next destination. read more

This place is great. The owner was awesome. Rooms are large and have a full kitchen, bathrooms were spotless and big. Full sized refrigerator and stove, with dishes in the cabinets. We're have been in town for 6 weeks working and tried most of the places, by far the best. read more
