We stayed here for an overnight girls' staycation. Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience, especially for $450 for ONE night. The hotel staff was nice upon checking in, but we had a few issues throughout the night. The rooftop hot tub was a key factor in selecting this location, but it was full of bugs. We asked them to come to clean it out, and they did, but they made sure to tell us before leaving that they couldn't get all the bugs out. After the hot tub, we took showers and the hot water was out by the 2nd shower. We went to call them and realized there were no phones in the room. We used our personal phones to call and when maintenance came they said it was hot and asked if was it just not hot enough for us. They then said that we were at the end of the hallway and there was a wedding that day. Were we supposed to have cold showers because of that? The hotel does not offer microwaves or a fridge but advised we could have one declined to the room. We had a fridge brought up and it was huge. Came to my waist. It was dented and did not smell clean. Luckily we traveled with Lysol wipes and cleaned it out ourselves. We also noticed several dead gnats and spiderwebs in the window area. The air conditioner is loud and outdated. Random bathroom hair that didn't belong to us. The list goes on. Not exactly a relaxing vacation location. Lobby and hallways were nice though. read more

OK, talk about a really cool hotel! We were in Stillwater for our company charity event and decided to stay across from the venue. I didn't expect what I encountered at this hotel. First, the place was really cute! From the decor in the lobby to the 100's of bourbon bottles that lined the bar. (I mean insane amounts of alcohol) The front desk staff was super friendly and very welcoming. Once we got checked in, we went up to the room to check it out. Super cute! We had a one bedroom room with kitchen. Really nice space and modern decor. The best part is the rooftop patio! It was a beautiful day and having a drink from the patio looking down at the street and everything going on was super cool and fun! There is also a roof top hot tub which may be fun in the winter when there is 6 inches of snow on the ground! The bar was very fun too! Stillwater is a pretty trendy town so there are a lot of tourists and visitors, very busy! The bar was just lined with liquor bottles. Hard to say how may but I would say around 1500 to 2000 bottles lined the wall. maybe more! The food was also really great! We got the hotdog and boy was it a big dog! lol The only downside I would say is the price to stay at the hotel. We paid close to $600.00 for the room. ouch right? We had a great time! The suite we had was modern, comfy and well decorated with two exception, the curtains are not blackout and the bed was WAY too firm. The mattress was similar to a hardwood floor and they added a soft mattress pad to it but it was only 1" thick. My daughter asked if she could sleep on the couch because the bed hurt. The checkin staff gave us the hours of the hot tub but that's all. The bar and restaurant didn't really appeal to us so we went out for meals, the is no breakfast available even for purchase. We did use the hot tub which was great and the rooftop space was pretty cool. Note the towels are indoors versus near the hot tub. We did not use our balcony that I paid a significant up charge to have due to yellow-jackets and the view was of a parking garage We used valet, this weekend was really crowded and I was grateful for the service. Three stars due to the room rate of nearly $1000 a night, seemed excessive for what we got. read more

The hotel had a free, convenient parking ramp and the hotel's location was great for walking around Stillwater. We used the outdoor hot tub on one of the coldest days, which was a fun experience. The bed was fairly comfortable but the window shades were disappointing because they allowed so much light in, which made sleeping-in difficult. There was a lot of noise outside our window in the morning around 7:00. A man was dumping wood for the smoker, I believe, and it went on for too long. We would have liked a refrigerator in our room. It's a clean hotel and they had friendly employees. I did expect more because of the higher price of the stay. read more

Outdoor rooftop hot tub that is open in the winter makes a fun experience! I have gone to Hotel Crosby for a staycation at least 4 times and will continue. Especially when the winter feels too heavy, a rooftop hot tub with little bonfires can go a long way. Tip: Take Monday off and stay Sunday-Monday overnight for a cheaper rate and less people. 1 night staycation? Yes. You work hard and deserve even a quicky. Ive also stayed here in the fall and it is really fun to bar hop through Stillwater and walk back without having to worry about transportation. The decor is modern and warm with a lot of character - esp the funny bathroom wallpaper depicting old timey photographs of funny people. I used to go to hotel hewing downtown Minneapolis for quick staycations, but Crosby has a similar vibe and is so much easier with the free ramp parking (behind the hotel). Minneapolis can be a load to get settled (stressy paid parking smaller rooms etc) Stillwater a breeze. Favorites: walk down the street to the velveteen rabbit speakeasy and candy store for a special treat. Walking the trail along the river is a no brainer. The matchsticks restaurant that is part of the hotel is nice if you do not want to walk (like in winter when it is quiet and less is open in Stillwater at night, so this is a nice option to stay put). Matchsticks is swanky and the food menu has fun tapa options. Like delicious mushrooms. Service has never been bad. The lobby has a HUGE movie like screen if you want to watch a game. Bonus: stop at 'just for me spa (5 min drive) and go for a quick salt cave session on your way out. Cheap enough and if you are going your first time they have a discount. read more

Came to Hotel Crosby for a weekend earlier this month and was overall pretty disappointed. It's a room I would maybe pay $200 a night for, but definitely not $400. PROS Booking online was easy enough. There was a good selection of rooms. The prices were a bit higher than other hotels in the area. Location is great! Though luckily downtown Stillwater is pretty small, so anywhere is pretty walkable. Parking was easy. There was a ramp nearby with a bit of a walk to get to the lobby. The room was comfortable and a good size. Bed was super cozy! I loved the balcony though I wish it had a small table. Staff were kind and helpful. We were luckily able to check in a little early and the staff had great communication about the whole process. CONS For the price of the room, I was honestly expecting a bit more. The amenities were a bit lacking. There was no mini fridge, cheap toiletries, scratchy towels, and just two tiny water bottles. Also no ice machine, but that was clearly communicated and not that big of a deal. Our room also didn't really have curtains. There were only shades that let in a ton of light and we learned you could see into the room with them drawn from the outside. Not a ton of privacy. Staff did come and tack up some tablecloths. The hotel advertised an app but when I tried downloading it, it was nowhere to be found. read more

Take a moment to appreciate the subtle choice of toilet paper dispensing design where you need to brush your arm against the wall in order to pull out the thinnest AND narrowest strips of toilet paper this side of the Mississippi. Finally, move on to the sink, where delightful bacteria and rust deposits around the fixtures capture the eye and spark the imagination. I think you'll be glad you paid hundreds of dollars a night to stay on the busy main street at this fine establishment. read more

Hotel Crosby has become our go-to spot in Stillwater for a staycation. The hotel itself is fairly modern, albeit it with a pretty eclectic decor. A number of rooms have patios, beds/linens are comfortable and we haven't found it to be too noisy. Free parking in the nearby parking garage is also a nice perk for this part of Stillwater. Everything along the main drag in Stillwater is walkable, but if you don't feel like going out, the attached restaurant (Matchsticks) has been enjoyable on multiple visits. Staff have always been very friendly, it's priced reasonably for the area given the amenities and the convenience is tough to beat. read more

One of the best places to stay in downtown Stillwater! Pull your car up into the valet spot and walk right into the hotel lobby and get checked in! Our front desk gentleman was outstanding! We celebrated 25 years anniversary and chose the Crosby because of its outstanding Decour, great food and friendly staff! This place did not disappoint! Once you check in you can either use the valet service or simply park your car in the free parking behind the hotel which was very easy to get to and parking there was free when you choose to do it yourself! When we arrive in the room we found a bottle of wine with a card written by the hotel staff congratulating us under 25 years of marriage! They did that to give us a great guest experience and was done out of their own kindness which I thought was such a nice surprise! We got a room with the balcony overlooking the back of the hotel which was perfect. It's quiet and you can look down upon the nice patio vibes behind the hotel which is perfect for relaxing, having a drink or simply conversing with family or friends. After you check in and get settled take a walk down on the main street of Stillwater and window shop or grab some food is all of the great restaurants and shopping are within walking distance of the hotel. We had dinner at the Met stick which is connected to the hotel which was a great place. The look of the hotel matches the look of the restaurant attach witches a modern rustic feel throughout. Our waiter was full of smiles and was eager to serve us which was a nice change compared to other restaurants I've been to recently. When you're in the restaurant, the matchstick, order the deep fried cauliflower as an appetizer While you are perusing the menu. And while you're at it order one of their many craft cocktails as they are intentional with their menu and their bartender is one great mixologist ("Drink With the Stars" was a personal favorite). We ordered the Wagyu Beef and it absolutely didn't disappoint! Finish your meal with an order of beignets...you can't order just one plate because they are absolutely addictive! The hotel was definitely clean and up-to-date and was the perfect place for us to stay. The only reason I gave it a four-star review is that the rooftop hot tub looked dirty and the rooftop in general was rundown. The Lounge chairs on the rooftop deck chairs were frayed, worn out with the stuffing coming out of the cushions, etc. I love a good rooftop pool/hot tub, etc but this was disappointing as it simply wasn't kept up. It's indeed a nice hotel. However the hard bed is enough for me to not stay again. Had a 2-night stay, and my back (as well as my boyfriends) was aching. Here's a snapshot of my experience: HOTEL - staff was kind and welcoming. - free parking in the ramp around corner (park on the main level). - lobby space is shared with Matchstick restaurant, creating active/ tight area. - has a fire pit in the back, as well as on the rooftop where the hot tub is. - if needed, they can provide a mini fridge. It doesn't hold much (not even a 2-ltr soda), but it's an option. -no fitness room, but there's a room labeled as such (looks like boardroom) ROOM -our's had a balcony, which we didn't use due to frigid temps, but I bet it's perfect in better weather. -very spacious, big bathroom, and no closets (Just hooks). - while yes there's a mattress pad, it doesn't do much ...the bed was hard. Told the gal at the front desk (who asked about our stay) and her response was "they're not made for bouncing"..... huh??? That said, given the cost per night I expected a little more umph in style, amenities, and comfort, but overall it was just okay. read more

I stayed at Hotel Crosby for two nights during my wedding weekend and had a great experience. My wife and I opted for a king suite and were given the room overlooking the main street in Stillwater. There was lots of natural light, great for pictures. The room was HUGE and comfortably accommodated about six people while we got ready the morning-of. There was plenty of seating options including an L-shaped couch, two accent chairs, and a bench that we pulled out of the bedroom. The night before our wedding we went to bed around midnight and the bar downstairs (Matchstick) was still playing music and entertaining guests. We could hear it from our room but didn't have any issues getting to sleep because the bed was so comfy. The night of our wedding we ended up hanging out at the bar and then sitting around the firepit in back. The only thing I wish we would've had was a mini fridge but it wasn't a deal-breaker. read more

I did move to another room (also two measly hangers, no 'fridge, and: a dirty shower. (Pics) I was very clear I wanted to speak to the Manager Monday night during the move to a different room, said it when I (mercifully checked out Tuesday am), even called back Wednesday. No Manager call. Wow. How come people don't realize you might not post and tell the truth if they just called and dealt with the truth? This hotel is on the surface cute. However minimalism doesn't mean cutting corners. That'll just lead to poor hospitality. 1 Star for the bugs bugging around the rooftop ambiance and diving into our drinks and the hot tub. A definite wine-no. 1 Star For no mini-fridge or ice machine, but thank you to the front desk who gave us buckets of ice each night. 1 Star For no closet, but thank you for the 2 hangers. 1 Star For the two coffee cups each morning. The four of us were real grateful and very sarcastic before 10am. 1 Star For the mini trash cans. We hope the mini garbage trucks are able to whisk it all away. 1 star For the one bed the teen house keeping crew made. Our mistake for leaving a book and a belt on the bed. Had we known it wouldn't made the cut for bed making we would have removed it. 1 Star For the crack between the door and the bathroom. One crack led to seeing many others. 1 Star For bedroom keys that worked only after the front desk had to give us knew ones every night. ZERO STARS FOR THE T.V. THAT RANDOMLY TURNED ON AT 3AM!! TALK ABOUT TRAUMATIZING. Not one night, but THREE nights! No one needs to be awakened by a tele-evangelist blaring into the silence of your zzzz's telling you to repent for dipping your toes in the buggy hot tub. With every request we made for it to be fixed we were assured someone would take a look at it. They did no looking and no fixing. When we approached the front desk THEY ALREADY KNEW ABOUT THE TV ISSUE!! AND WE WEREN'T the only ones. We ran into a few others throughout the hotel who shared the same tv experience. So we attempted to speak to a manager. Emphasis on attempted. There must have been a hotel management conference they all attended because there wasn't a manager in sight or on site. I was instantly swayed by the chic and cozy atmosphere online when I booked. I loved the idea of a hot tub + firepit, a cozy space to have cocktails after dark, and a stylish room. What I didn't anticipate, however, was a total mess of an experience in lack of amenities and professionalism. 1. Unlike most hotels, this hotel doesn't have the necessities. No closet, no mini fridge, no phone to call down to the main lobby, no hooks for towels in the bathroom, and no room service. These are all staples for a typical hotel room and this hotel had none of it. If you want something from the hotel's restaurant, there'll be no menu in the room and you can't have it delivered to your room. Instead, you'll have to walk in whatever attire you're in (we were in our pajamas) to grab menus from the center a busy and chic restaurant. There were glares from other patrons but there was no other way to get to the restaurant to place an order. If you plan on using the hot tub upstairs, you'll be passing by this open restaurant as well to get to the hotel's only elevator, so it's embarrassing and you feel exposed. Looking forward to the hotel's breakfast? Well, don't because they don't serve any! Luckily Stillwater has many options for breakfast, but this is extremely inconvenient for the busy traveler looking for a quick bite in the morning. I have never heard of a hotel not serving breakfast in an in-house restaurant. Don't expect an ice machine either, they don't have one. 2. OUR ROOM HAD BUGS. Yes, bugs. The bathroom had bugs coming from under the shower. It was disgusting. 3. The shower had no hot water. My friend and I both had equally horrible showers under cold water. 4. They give you a password to your room's personal wifi -- handwritten on a piece of construction paper. It was completely undecipherable. We tried decoding it as best we could many different times with no avail. That meant no wifi for us, which was extremely frustrating. 5. The ceiling is paper thin. Whoever was above us was loudly stomping all night long and we could hardly get any sleep because of it. I guessed this was because of the "stylish" high ceilings which provided no sound barrier whatsoever. This proves my point: yes the aesthetics were nice but they were not functional. 6. There's no bathroom door: only a sliding barn door -- which means total lack of privacy. There's a gap in between the barn door and wall so whoever you're with can hear and see you. We had a room with two queen beds so we preferred privacy. We brought the insects issue and no hot water issue to management, only to have $100 taken off the bill. Since it was just a night, I felt we should have been comped the whole night since our experience was so awful. For a $330 a night, we expected more. A lot more. And we were utterly disappointed. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at and I don't plan to ever return. read more

Amazing weekend getaway! This new hotel feels somehow what Stillwater was missing; fun, modern, authentic and convenient! The lobby is beautiful and combines fun outdoor seating with cozy wood indoor decor. Hotel staff is extremely nice and welcoming. We were able to check in early and got a great room in the 3rd floor close to the rooftop! The rooftop is fun during the day and romantic in the night.. with hot tub, fire pit, view of main street and nice seats. The hotel and restaurant is inspired on whisky and all details make you feel at a luxury vacation for a reasonable price! The room is comfortable and modern, a bit noisy but understandable because of the location of the hotel and room. We stayed for their first brunch buffet and it was delicious with bottomless pineapple mimosas! The hotel has great amenities like: free parking, farm to table restaurant with a huge selection of liquors (+700!), Rooftop with hot tub and firepit and outdoor seating. We had an AMAZING stay at the Hotel Crosby for our girlfriend's 30th birthday. The decor throughout the hotel and our one bedroom suite was impeccably designed with natural textures, quirky statement features, and just oozed the feeling of coziness mixed with luxury. Additionally, our interaction with the staff was overwhelmingly positive. The front desk person made the whole check-in process so welcoming and easy, and provided great tips on what to check out in the city and made sure to let us know how difficult finding Ubers/Lyfts can be in the city. Thanks to him, I made sure to schedule our Lyft in the evening to ensure we made it to our dinner reservations on time. We've enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Crosby so much that we are planning to come back again when the weather gets warmer to enjoy the rooftop patio and hot tub! read more

Beautiful hotel - great staff, however only giving it two stars as the bed was so incredibly hard and awful (also cheap toilet paper). As new parents we chose to come to this trendy fun hotel for our first night away from our baby to 1) have a fun night out together (check! Delivered on that) but more importantly 2) have a full uninterrupted night of sleep. And that was just heartbreaking that I slept worse then I do with an infant waking every 2-3 hours and also have a sore back. Please please hotel either upgrade your mattresses to match your price and the luxury you are putting out in your image or invest in some mattresses toppers at the least. read more

This review is for Matchsticks restaurant in the Hotel Crosby. I've visited twice. The ambiance here is really nice. Warm, woodsy, contemporary but comfortable, very appropriate for the St. Croix Valley. They offer a variety of seating: booths, tables, and communal high tops. On my first visit I sat at a table and noticed something weird: Either the chairs are too short or the tables are too tall. I felt like a toddler, my chin barely clearing the tabletop. And I'm not a small person. On my second visit I sat at one of the long high-tops. Stools were comfortable and the appropriate height for dignified eating. Next time I want to try a booth. They specialize in small plates. In my two visits there, dining companions and I have ordered these items: beets and yogurt; brussels sprouts; wedge salad; risotto; sausage plate; eclairs. They will tell you, they just bring things out in the order they get done in the kitchen, so when you order two things that would go well together...they might not appear together. On one of my visits, my dining companion and I ordered a sausage plate and a risotto to share. The risotto came out almost immediately and was getting cold by the time its ideal accompaniment, the sausage, showed up. Then the salad appeared. Normally I like my salad at the beginning of a meal but we just set it aside and finished with it. My overall take is that they can't resist using their smoker, and many of the dishes feature smoked something-or-other. Stuff was tasty but I'd like them to dial it back a little...you can get smoked out if you're not vigilant about what you order. The sausage was smoked. The wedge salad featured smoked tomatoes. The brussels sprouts were smoked. That said, here's what I thought of the individual dishes. Wedge Salad--generous portion, three big iceberg wedges topped with plenty of tangy blue cheese crumbles and dressing, smoky bacon cooked just right, and smoked tomato pieces. This was so good I ordered it both times. The first time the tomatoes were pretty, pretty smoky. Second time it was more subtle, and I liked it even better. Beets and yogurt--smallish portion but bursting with flavor, including something citrus-y. Brussels sprouts--Big, satisfying portion, roasted to caramelized perfection, very tasty. We ate it all. Sausage plate--smoky, smoky wild boar and elk sausage served with grainy mustard and some kind of berry preserves. Both of us preferred the boar and mustard. The elk sausage was a little dry and the preserves didn't really make up for it. Corn risotto--I'm a risotto snob and rarely order it out, but this was novel and cooked well, with whole kernels of corn adding sweetness and crunch, a nice contrast to the creamy rice. Too bad they brought it out so much earlier than the rest of the food. As a standalone dish, it's wonderful. Chocolate eclairs from the dessert menu--meh. Companion and I each took one bite and sent the rest home for her teenage son to finish. Creme anglais inside was the best part, but the whole thing was chilly and unappealing. Seemed like it had been thawed out and wasn't quite ready for prime time. One thing we didn't eat was bread...because unless you get something like bruschetta, they don't offer it. I wish they did, especially with the salad. The place is brand new, and I liked the atmosphere, food, and prices enough that I look forward to going back. I'm not a drinker, so for food alone each meal set me back about $25 with tax and tip, a good value. read more

Weird calling front desk from your cell - no refrigerator - barn door to bathroom leaving large crack, and noisy. - shower control behind the shower door. Have to get in the shower to operate and experience the cold water before its adjusted - no outlet next to bed so you have to charge phone across the room. When you want to check time you have to get out of bed. Bottom line I might stay again but for a premium hotel I would expect better rooms. read more

We have eaten here twice, it was good. It is beautiful but very loud and the servers are not that friendly. My father has a cane and kinda handicapped, on our way to the table there was a step down, no warning and he almost did a nose dive! Scary!!!! The hostess should have warned us. read more

The salmon on plank was just perfectly charred. The sauté carrots, unforgettable. was introduced to the chef..a humble brilliant man. 750 different whiskeys...give yourself at least 3 days so you can try them all! The rooms were gorgeously designed and appointed. both FOH and BOH was a perfect symphony of talent to serve you. Hotel Crosby was one of my top hotel experiences! The Crosby staff was exceptional. If you're ever in the mood to be treated like an actual customer again this is your spot. I travel constantly with my job and basically live in hotels throughout the country and Hotel Crosby is my absolute favorite hotel above and beyond any other. The perfect mix of fancy and comfort. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating. The manager, John, is really knowledgeable about the history of Stillwater and surrounding areas and will recommend the best places in town. The restaurant in the lobby, Matchstick, is awesome too. They have a great happy hour, delicious food and follows suit with the really cool vibe and decor of the hotel. My girlfriend and I always open our calendars after we leave to figure out when we can make it back next. We have stayed here a total of 8 nights in the past few months and have had a consistently positive experience every single time. In fact...I had business in Bloomington, MN on this trip and decided to stay at Hotel Crosby even tho it's 45min away...well worth it. I called this hotel well over 6 weeks ago to schedule a room. I booked the presidential suite, and planned an entire weekend around it with a group. One week before our stay, the hotel called me and said that they overbooked and they were cancelling my reservation. No apology and no explanation. They told me that they were having problems with expedia booking online, but I had called and scheduled this with their own staff. I was shocked that there was absolutely no accommodation or any solution to the problem. What if you were staying in town for a wedding??? I would never use this hotel- read more

Not impressed with this hotel at all. Girls getaway and none of us were happy with the experience: 1. Took 20 minutes to checkout to allow them (took three employees) to figure out how to charge 4 credit cards 2. Our room was not available until 5:00 pm 3. Did not receive a text that our room was ready which was promised 4. Hot tub (NOT A POOL!!!) was dirty 5. Food in restaurant was mediocre at best and none of us got our dishes at the same time and had to wait 10 minutes between main dish and sides 6. Nobody at front desk to answer our questions and even tried calling hotel and no one answered! read more

Loved this hotel! Staff were friendly, stayed here twice, both times they gave us a free upgrade. Matchstick is a great place to drink/eat. The lobby is cozy and wonderful place to have a cocktail. Rooms were clean, comfortable. Will definitely be staying here when we visit! read more

Beautiful facial decorated hotel in an old building. However, the air quality and likely mold of an old building. Both of us woke up sneezing and congested badly. Other issue is didn't sleep all night. The radiator heat runs like a large power tool and clanks all night. Literally, trying to get peace with pillows over my head. Like others have shared, plumbing is very slow so you definitely know that you are in an old building. Shared this information with 2 front desk employees who simply said...Sorry about that. I didn't get any indication of following up or talking to manager or offering discount because sleeping is an important part of a hotel stay. read more
