Ask the Community - Roddy's Bar & Grill

Does anyone know if Roddy still owns this place? I used to frequent it regularly when I worked in North St. Paul in the 70's.

No he sold it over 20+ years ago.

I was for the booze, I order Old Fashion and they don't have it, what kind of establishment dont't have Old fashion. So, I order 2 Captain Morgan and Coke instead with cheese curd, and my wife order Egg roll salad and Fried Cheese Wonton and she order Blood Mary. I Knew it was to going to suck. And my wife did not like her order either, They Folkerized the Asian dish to suits American Taste bud. It is like going to Taco Bell for a regular a Mexican Taco it is not good. The bad ass thing is that they hire some poor sap Asian cooking a tasteless Asian food. I tip $12 just to be generous. I usually tip $30-$100 if the food was good, and service was good. This bars sucks and stop trying to get Asians in there because that was disgusting was food sucks. And the service slow, molasses move faster than they do. ALL ASIAN DONT GO THERE AND ALL PEOPLE DONT GO THERE IT IS NOT GOOD. Thumbs Down with only 1 Star. I didn't take to many photos because was not worth it. Just stick with bar food, that is your specialty. It takes months to get business going for profits, it only takes 1 person to close down a business. The place must be doing pretty bad if they can't afford to hire more people. I will be telling everyone on Facebook to not go there. GRAND OPENING, GRAND CLOSING. Do better.

We arrived early at 4 PM on a Sunday afternoon so the place was not yet packed. By the time we left at 5:30 most of the tables indoors were full. You wait for the hostess to seat you. We took a hightop. They have a big outdoor patio area, but it was 90° that day so we opted to stay inside. Service was great and friendly and fast. Our Party ordered the following: Nashville fried chicken - chicken was crispy and just a little bit spicy. It was a bit greasy, but that is expected. The server said it was their best sandwich. That's my jam - this had cream cheese and habanero, bacon jam, but we couldn't really taste the habanero. But it was good nonetheless. Campfire burger - two of our Party ordered this and they thought the combination of the peanut butter with a spicy lingonberry jam was really good. The chips that come with the sandwiches are amazing. Don't even think of switching to something else. I also had the bloody Mary, which was a good mix, but not very spicy. I was wondering why they gave me Tabasco on the table. The burgers are huge, maybe a third or a half pound of beef and well worth the price. Overall, it is worth the 40 minute drive to White Bear Lake and won't mind stopping by if we were in the area again.
