We often look for historic properties when we travel. Well, this one is a hidden gem. Built in the 1920's, it was originally a Mason's lodge. It's now owned and operated by the chef in the adjacent restaurant "Nola". Our biggest surprise were the delicious, and freshly made beignets for breakfast.... Best I've ever tasted.

One night, I went to the infamous haunted Hotel Defuniak Hotel. Won a lot of cool prizes. I even got to see Room 8 where the hauntings occur. It is said a man in a top hat, a lady in a blue petticoat, and children ghosts roam around the place. Thinking of planning a fun ghoulish spend a night party with my friends in a room here one day. Spirits with spirits... Since the 1920s, The DeFuniak Hotel was known to have a haunted suite. Many guests have reported that Room 8 is very active. Known as the "Aviary Room," both housekeeping and guests have reported witnessing the ghosts of two children. Some have claimed to hear the children singing nursery rhymes in the middle of the night. You may also often find toys that are left for them soaking wet or mysteriously placed under the bed upon waking. Some think that their mother drowned the two children in the bathroom. Special thanks to Christina, Chef Ernie, Stephanie, and the staff there.

Dust bunnies and trash all over the floor

We were really intrigued by staying in an old and charming hotel, however, within an hour of checking in we checked out. We were extremely disappointed when we arrived in our room to find it covered in spider webs, dust, and just an overall dirty room. Absolutely do not recommend!

If you need a roll-a-way bed it is nasty. I tried to express my concerns with Wyndham for over 2 weeks and they just refer you back to the hotel management. Pay more fir your comfort. If you don't care then cheap it is. I will never stay here again. We had 4 rooms and plan on making the trip next year also BUT, not at Super 8, Dufinak Springs, Florida . We stayed June 23. 2023

During the transfer to the new room I decided to take 2 of the pillows with me over to the new room. I figured why not? Had already laid my head on them, instead of calling front desk for more. 830am the next morning there is POUNDING on my door. Yes, I had a do not disturb sign on our door if you can believe it. The pounding continues at which time the front desk woman yells "housekeeping ". I replied "No thank you". She proceeded to yell through our door asking how many pillows we had. With me being disoriented after having a late night of travel and not much sleep, I replied, "I believe 6". We did have a double queen bedroom.....I then decided to get up and go open the door because she was certain to wake my sleeping toddler with all the yelling. I opened and this woman snappingly responded, "Yeah, I'm going to need two of those back ". I was irrate at that point and took the two pillows to the door. Next afternoon, during my shower I hear BEATING on my door again. Non stop beating. I hurried out of the bathroom and looked out the window to see the same front desk woman heading toward the stairs on the phone. I plugged the room phone back in due to unplugging it so that my smart toddler didn't dial 911. After plugging in the phone, came the rings. Its front desk, noise complaint. The person UNDER us says we are jumping around?. I assured her I was in the shower and have no idea what she was taking about. She replied "Yea, I'm going to need you to handle that". Again, my do not disturb sign hangs on my door. I called my husband who was working a job nearby which is the reason for our stay. He went to speak to front desk after work. During his walk up there he noticed our room on the 2nd floor is above A MAINTENANCE CLOSET. The room next to that one was VACANT as we could see in because the shades were fully open. Trust me, I have pictures. This was about an hour after the complaint he noticed and headed to front desk. Same rude lady. Blonde with glasses. Husband told her he had a complaint. He then reminded her of the complaint called on our room and brought it to her attention that there is a maintenance closet and a vacant room under us. The only two potential rooms that would be anywhere under is. The woman replied, " Oh, I was going around to all the rooms not just yours". HUH? Okay. She then asked my husband "Well is that all you have to complain about?". He decided to give up due to her disgusting attitude and condescending tone. My husband decided to just contact corporate. Here we are 2 weeks later and ZERO returned calls from corporate about our complain. Do NOT recommend. There are many other places to stay in Defuniak who most likely offer better customer service and cleaner rooms.

The man checking us in had absolutely NO INTEREST in helping us. He had more interest in whatever was on his cell phone. Once we were able to get into our room, we immediately noticed cockroaches on the beds and walls! We immediately turned around and went to the front desk to report. I would have gotten pictures to prove our horrible experience, but we didn't want to hang around any longer. The man at the front desk could care less....because I made my reservation on Expedia, I've been on ENDLESS hold trying to get a refund! I am soooooo disappointed!

I had to ask! The hotel was pretty clean except for my pillowcase, but much of the equipment in the room and even in the office was broken. My toilet paper holder was broken, the shower drain was completely stopped up (and never drained by the time I checked out hours later), and the freezer in the mini-fridge needed defrosting so badly it was totally nonfunctional. The hair dryer barely worked either and the toilet was extremely loud. The lobby bathroom was out of order as well. The so called "continental breakfast" was a joke. Breakfasts like these are such a tease they should not be offered at all. It had toast, prepackaged pastries, cereal, oatmeal, and apples, not even the waffles or yogurt found at 90% of these bare bones continental breakfasts. I'm amazed the hotel is still in business. Offering inexpensive hotel rooms doesn't give the owner a pass on basic maintenance. But it wasn't all bad. It was quiet and the heat worked so I am thrilled at the good night's sleep I got.
