Downstairs is a nice little bar servicing a comfy inside seating area and the wonderful courtyard where you can be shaded from the sun under pines and palms. The wifi is strong, and they have parking if you require it. While all of the this great, the best part of Hotel Palme is the staff. Everyone is friendly and helpful. They are situated far enough from the beach to keep clear from any tour groups that come through the town, but close enough that within a few minutes walk you are on the beach, in a tasty restaurant, or at a trail head. Normally it's served on their rooftop balcony where all the lemon trees grow, but due to the weather, we dined indoors, which was just as lovely and more comfortable. Highly recommend Eraldo's crepes with their lemon jam sauce. Three of us ordered omelettes and each omelette ended up being garnished differently. It felt like a home-cooked meal. You could see the staff mixing the batter at the front. Their smoothies also used real fruit, and they had a unique lemon smoothie worth trying! I was surprised how it was more sweet than sour. Then there was the yogurt with lemon curd, the freshly-baked focaccia, croissants...I could go on and on. It was definitely THE BEST BREAKFAST we had during our trip to Italy. After we checked out, the hotel staff allowed us to leave our luggage while we continued to explore more of Cinque Terre, and when we officially checked out, they gave us a complimentary heart-shaped fridge magnet featuring Monterosso. Just a few…read morehundred steps from the water, Albergo Marina (aka Hotel Marina) was the polar opposite of our hotel in Rome, in an expected, excellent way. The hotel has five floors of uniquely styled rooms with varying layouts, furniture, and views. We had an L (ish) shaped room on the second floor that looked out on the "street" (more like a cobblestone path) with two separate terraces that we could walk out and sit on. Views of the water are very hard to come by in this part of town, but we were able across some rooftops and up into the mountains. Sitting on the balcony all we could hear were footsteps, animals, the wind, and a constant stream of water heading towards the ocean. No cars fit up anywhere near here, so we didn't hear a single engine from our room. The bed was comfortable and warm, and nice and big. Just FYI, the king size bed is actually two not-so-king mattresses next to one another, so movement during the night could create a bit of a gap in the middle. The shower was amazing, larger than I thought it would ever be for a place like this and the rainfall shower head and water pressure were the best. The free breakfast was nice and simple. Coffee, juice, tea, pastries/bread, as well as omelettes and pancakes made to order. They offered a mid-afternoon snack, and a room here gets you into a free pesto tasting that happens every day from 2pm-3pm just down the street. They have free WiFi, which happened to be much faster (11.12/1.89) than the WiFi at our previous hotel in Rome, and enabled us to stream 1080p Netflix at night without issue. The staff here was extremely nice, and provided us with excellent recommendations on food, drinks, and things to check out while we were in town. I would definitely recommend this place for a stay in Monterosso, especially when it gets warmer and you can leave the windows open 100% of the time.

There are only 2-3 taxis in Monterosso (costs 15 euros each way). Wait to buy your Cinque Terre pass and Via Dell'Amore ticket - they can help you purchase what you need here for up to half off! We also did the pasta, pesto, and tiramisu class here which was a lot of fun! Would definitely recommend it. It is 120 euros per person and has to be paid in cash - there are several ATMs nearby. We were here for the first day of the Lemon Festival (mid-May) so all the shops had lemon themed displays up!

The rooms are very comfortable and have all the amenities you need including a terrace with a sea-view. The owners, Matteo and Carla, as well as the entire staff, are the best I have ever experienced. They are all kind and welcoming. They anticipated our needs by giving us information about the trains and hiking among villages in Cinque Terra. My brother in law wasn't feeling well and stayed at the hotel the first day. Carla called a doctor and also checked on him throughout the day. We all took a cooking class with Carla and it was fabulous. We made tiramisu, pasta, pesto and branzino. She was so patient with our lack of skills and made it fun. We all felt we might be able to do these recipes at home. We ate the delicious meal on an upper terrace with an even more amazing view. We were in Italy for two weeks and this was my favorite hotel. THE BEST!

Little did I know, the hotel is actually AT the train station, upstairs of the building to be exact. When we got there in the evening, we went down the hill and found a door with a buzzer for Casa Dane, but then they ask me to call on WhatsApp so they can guide us to the right place. We then walk back up the hill to the train station and found the true entrance. Once we got to the room, the place is actually quite comfortable and good amount of space for an European hotel. Our room was facing away from the train tracks but right in front of the taxi drop off, we were concern about the possible noise in the morning but the next day we barely hear the noise at all. The front desk worker is very nice and answers all kind of questions such as what's the best way to visit the Cinque Terre area and favorite restaurant in the town. Overall it was an interesting and pleasant stay here at Casa Dane. If you're still young and don't care about too much amenities of a hotel, Casa Dane could be a consideration if you're staying in La Spezia so you can visit the Cinque Terre the next day.

This has to be the strangest hotel I have ever experienced. To do that I had to incur a $10 cellular charge as no WiFi was available. We were told via chat that there were two large red vases at the door we were to enter at the train station. I was sent a picture of a door with white vases. We saw the door with the red vases and rang the bell. Someone asked my name over the intercom and said I was at the wrong door. I needed to go to the door with the white vases. So the doors look like they belong to anything other than a hotel. Once you get buzzed into the building you carry your suitcases up a few flights of stairs. The reception area reminded me of a college dormitory. There were bulletin boards with hand written notes on the walls and white furniture similar to what is sold at Home Depot and assemble yourself filled the reception area. The room was large and had a very sterile feel to it. Only the rooms were not sterile. I made the mistake of walking around the room barefoot and then stepped on the white bath mat and I could see my dirty footprints on the bath mat. Our room had a fairly large balcony that looked out onto the electrical grid for the train station. There were no chairs or benches to sit on the balcony. There was a clothesline that we did take advantage of. A continental breakfast was included with the room. We had to walk down the street to a restaurant to get the breakfast. The croissants and juice included were actually very good. The air conditioning did work well in the room and was controlled with a remote control. It was very hot in La Spezia when we were there so we really appreciated that. The neighborhood and people hanging around the train station after dark are very sketchy, so we tried to get back to our room either before dark or shortly after dark. Besides the air conditioning, the other good thing about this hotel is you just walk outside of the building and you are at the train station that takes you to Cinque Terre. We were quite surprised to find that even though the hotel is at a train station, we rarely heard any sounds that indicated we were at a train station. There is a parking garage nearby. We were fortunate to get one of the last parking spaces in the garage and our rental car barely fit into the narrow parking space. The passengers had to exit the car before it was parked.

The front desk was great with check-in; she provided us with lots of information on the area and activities to do and places to go. They also took care of moving our car to the parking area up the hill. The room was very clean and we had plenty of space. We had a small balcony with table and chairs that we enjoyed a bottle of wine and some take out from The White Goose. The breakfast the next morning had a wide variety and was plentiful. Would highly recommend the Hotel Carla for anyone visiting Levanto!

Its a little bit of a walk from the restaurants (~0.7 km) but it felt like nothing because the weather there was phenomenal relative to Rome and Florence. I think its fair to say that this place did the job- ie a place to sleep. I did find it a little bit odd though that they charge 1 euro per beach towel. It just felt cheap. I was thinking in my head- just charge me an extra couple of euro in the rate but don't pull stuff like this. Also this place had the crappiest wifi of all the places we stayed.
