It's easy to imagine horses tied up in front and weary travelers being welcomed

Yes, yet another historic hotel lovingly preserved. Thank Goodness this place hasn't been torn down. Not many of these remain. Ft Davis is a historic army post created to protect travelers along the San Antonio to El Passo Trail. This little spec of a town is well preserved. Being the county seat there is a courthouse, hotel, bank and library not unlike what you may have found back in the day. The hotel is simple and as close to the original s you will find anywhere. Check it out. You wont be sorry.

This hotel was recommended to us and it turned out really good! The lobby and adjacent rooms were beautiful. Upon check in, we were greeted by a welcoming receptionist. She told us that we would actually be staying across the street and up a flight of steps. Room 41 by the balcony. We booked this on booking.com and didn't realize that there were several buildings at the hotel. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, although nothing fancy. Bed was very comfortable. See my picture of the shower. There is a small lip at the floor- water can splash out while showering so make sure you put towels down. **prepare in advance that there is no food for breakfast, nor coffee really. Two more things: I went back that evening and the same young woman was kind enough to find me a wine opener to use quickly. Cheers! Second, in case the hotel is reading- the public bathroom downstairs behind reception is so cute- a $10 new toilet seat would make a huge difference in presentation/ first appearances to guests checking in. If we head back to Fort Davis we will surely stay here! PS- check out the precious public library right next door!

Cover that window above the door! Plenty of room and a decent old TV.

I love me a funky old hotel. They are gems that should be cherished and enjoyed. This one was a bit of a bi-polar experience. Some of it I loved, some of it I hated. What I loved: Great charm. Very clean. Interesting rooms with nooks and crannies. Games in some of the rooms. Relaxing balconies (upstairs/downstairs, front/back). Excellent staff with every interaction. Wonderful to sign the old time ledger to record your visit. Cool old keys on brass rings. Beautiful accommodations with antique like accomodations. What I hated: Any time anyone was on the balcony outside our room it felt like they were in our room. NO sound proof and the windows didn't have very effective shading. There's a window above the door that has a paper thin shade. All night long it was like a dimmed spotlight into the room. I could read from it (truly) and we had to put layers of jackets & towels over it every night. The doors are VERY difficult to shut/lock with one hand. You must put everything down when you leave as the doors don't self lock. Would I stay again? Sure. But I would be prepared. I'd bring ear plugs and I would DEFINITELY bring a small tarp for the window above the door. Then I would likely rate it a 4.

Great hotel in Ft Davis! Classic old hotel with unique bedrooms and public spaces! Convenient to downtown and the Blue Mountain restaurant. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice 2 bedroom suite with kitchen. Can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the Hotel Limpia for 5 nights to explore the surrounding area and visit Big Bend Ranch State Park and Big Bend National Park. One of the reasons we chose this hotel, other than the fact it was a restored historic hotel, was because we could have our dog with us. Another reason was because my husband was told that several places offered breakfast and there was a coffee shop onsite (with espresso). We actually stayed in a long, low building behind the hotel with rooms that is probably as old as the hotel, called the Orchard House, instead of in the main hotel. Here are my thoughts: 1. We underestimated how much there would be to see and enjoy in Ft. Davis or some of the other small towns in this area. These towns have all dwindled to tiny with only fewer than 10 shops and restaurants in all each. 2. The 'options' for breakfast were: the drugstore across the street, but only on weekends and the 3 food items for carry out from the market down the street. The coffee shop had a couple of pastries as well. 3. The coffee shop was closed on Monday and Tuesday, half of our stay in town. 4. The hotel: it was historic, it was old, but restored? um, no, not really. Everything in our room sloped. The bathroom was at least 50 years old and had not been updated very often, maybe band-aided a few times. The kitchen was also old and tired. I suspect that the main building fared better. From reviewing some of the older photos others have posted, it looks like there used to be a few more options for food in Ft. Davis years ago, and the hotel also used to offer coffee in the lobby previously. They no longer provide brewed coffee in the lobby; they have small bottles of water and a couple of snack bars.

For an "old, historic" hotel it's nice. Just nice. There IS a room that could suite you depending on your needs but the description on the website does not have enough of the detailed description I would want. My family of 10 stayed in rooms 30, 31 and 34. My daughters (and their babies) had 31 and 34 for the king beds. Me, my hubby and my son had 30 for the two bedrooms and kitchen. The bed, pillows and linens are OK. Just ok. The towels are old and have holes in them. The "grab n go" breakfast consists of one choice of bar, a nutrígrain and water bottles. They also give free you coffee vouchers for a black coffee and a 10% discount for the one little coffee shop next door (see my review for that for more info) the pool was ice cold but relatively clean. The property grounds were clean enough and due to all the rain, very green But of course there is maintenance that needs to be done all around the façade of the building. Like bricks falling off of places and paint chipping and all the stuff that comes with owning a building like this. The employees are nice. Tiffany was most hospitable and helpful of everyone. I also make and effort to learn names. Finding help if you need someone was pretty easy, overall though this town is hurting for employees. Very unfortunate considering the location and charm that ft. Davis potentially has. Breaks my heart to see so many businesses closed.

Needing a bite to eat before zipping up the mountain for a star party at the McDonald's…read moreObservatory, my girlfriend and I popped into the Harvard Hotel with our appetites. With a limited menu, we presumed anything ordered would be rather scrumptious. We decided to order the chicken fried steak along with the green chili bacon burger. We shared our dishes per, swapping plates half way through our respective meals. Our consensus was identical and is as follows: The green chili bacon burger was indeed the superior dish. In fact, it was quite delicious! The chicken fried steak was good as well, but the portion was a bit small and the sides were nothing to write home about. Was the burger worth $18? Probably not, but to be fair, I'm not sure that any burger is deserving of such a price. That being said, it was indeed a tasty burger if you don't mind the price. Was the chicken fried steak worth $20? Certainly not. Truly an average dish with small portions, we both feel the decision was regrettable at such a price point. In conclusion, with a juicy burger, an average chicken fried steak, and a limited menu with overpriced entrees, the Harvard Hotel receives a 3 star rating.

We were pleasantly surprised, especially given the "curb appeal" of the place!…read more This was our fist time visiting West Texas. We had done some research and realized that we needed to "set out expectations" for what to expect on our trip. That being said "Rustic" is an understatement!!!! Now, on to this particular establishment......... VERY laid back with self check-in/out. We only encountered two staff members during our stay, and they were both very friendly and "colorful" (in a good way). The accommodations, while small, and VERY RUSTIC, were clean, and thoughtfully laid out. It had ample places for our luggage, hanging clothes, toiletries, etc., and a kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave, fridge, and a sink which doubled for the bathroom sink. There was a make up dresser for my wife, with a mirror, but no hair dryer (which their website had stated would be the case, so no surprises there). The "compound" had a nicely appointed community pavilion, though it was a bit chilly at night when we were there, and we were exhausted, so we didn't use it. The bed was comfortable, and the heating/AC unit worked properly and wasn't unusually noisy. We left before the cafe was open, and they had closed by the time we checked in, so we didn't get a chance to try it, but the lingering food odor was wonderful, so we were a bit disappointed that we missed out. The ONLY comment I have is that the price, WHILE LESS THAN SOME OF THE OTHER PLACES WE ENCOUNTERED ON THIS TRIP, seemed a tad on the high end. We are generally a Hilton/Best Western/Holiday Inn Express type of client and we paid about the same for "Rustic" as we would for typical lodging at one of those establishments. That being said, this was the best lodging VALUE we experienced during our stay in West Texas, so not really a complaint. We would/will stay there again if/when we're out that way, again.

Great service. Great food. Especially the hamburgers and omelets. Very clean and fast service.read more

Our experience with this property was deeply disappointing--not only was our refund request denied,…read morebut the response was laced with condescension and zero empathy. Instead of any effort to understand our situation, we were met with a lecture about fairness to them while completely dismissing fairness to the guest. Their message made it clear: they'd rather keep your money than show basic hospitality or decency. We canceled with nearly a week's notice--not a last-minute no-show--but were told it was "unlikely the room would rebook" and that it wouldn't be "fair" to offer a refund. That level of rigidity, coupled with a passive-aggressive tone and a "we don't care if you come back" attitude, says all you need to know. If you value respectful communication, flexibility, or even the slightest customer care, stay anywhere else. This is not a place that values its guests--only your money.

There is a small balcony at the end of the hallway (also fire escape), and a large gathering room at the front. The gathering room has a couch, two chairs, books, puzzles, cards; a nice little hang out room. Then the other half has about 6 tables set up to eat or hang out on. There is an ice chest for guests there also. The beds are extremely comfortable! Restaurant: open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You order at the counter, get a # and choose a table to wait for your order which is brought to you. You can also sit at the counter to order milkshakes, soda floats, etc. There is a small gift shop with items at the front and at the back near the restrooms. They also sell single slices of pie. The hotel checkin is inside the restaurant. There are a few tables outside to eat also. Prices are reasonable and staff is really friendly. Fun fact: Wed. April 27, 2022 the entire property was sold to new owners. We randomly met the wife on the street that day. Her, her husband and adult son moved here from Minnesota to become the new owners. The adult son will manage the restaurant. Not sure how things will change, if at all. Note to owners: the beds in room #6 are too high. Either provide foot stools or get lower beds.
