We stopped by the Hotel Manor for lunch during a group bike ride--10 of us in total, looking forward to a nice meal and possibly returning for dinner later. When we arrived, one couple tried to park their bike under a tree to keep it out of the sun. A waitress came out and told us to use the bike rack, which would've been fine, but she followed it up with a sarcastic comment: "I can't park cars in the bike rack, so pull it over there." The tone was unnecessarily rude and dismissive. We were guests, ready to spend time and money at the establishment, and instead felt unwelcome. We each had one drink and decided to leave. It's unfortunate, because the location has potential--but respectful service is non-negotiable. We won't be returning. When following up a few minutes later, once again, we received a very sarcastic I'm sorry. People like this should not be working in the service industry. It's a shame. Overall, Food and service were good. The problem begins with the bill. The menu clearly states to upgrade with a side salad with dinner is $2.99 which I ordered. Server asked if I wanted the chips that come with the dinner as well. Sure. Server brings my salad and *ASKS* if I wanted another side of dressing? It only a comes in a small plastic shot cup, probably 2 tsp... Sure. When the bill comes the side salad was $9.95, NOT $2.99. The additional salad dressing was $.79. Soft drinks are one refill only! Even ice tea. Waiting to get charged for water next? $7 difference for a small handful of chips? Oh, and if you pay with plastic, there is a 3.8% additional fee. Granted, it's printed on the menu but still... Again... good food (pulled pork) but felt gouged on prices. It's too bad, we were hoping to have found a new favorite place to eat. read more

Stayed at Hotel Manor on October 8 when temperatures dropped to 38 degrees, and room is not heated. Bedding included 1 thin, cotton blanket with no reserve blankets. The rooms are small and very basic with a bed and dresser-similar to a European hostel. The restaurant was open on Sunday from noon to five pm. There are no eating options in area on weekends. read more

A great place to eat if visiting the lower pine creek area. They offer lots of local brews as well. Lots of locals eat here as well so you know it's good. There is a nice deck to sit on and watch the creek when the weather is nice. I have eaten here a few times and the food has always been great, the service has been a little slower at lunch sometimes as they had 1 bartender/ waiter for the whole place. But this is in the winter so their volume is most likely very weather dependent. read more

Very secluded and peaceful area. I had an enjoyable time there. Went for a birthday biking trip in July 2022. Little to no cell phone service, which is fantastic if you're looking to unplug and unwind. The Hotel offers free wifi, so you can use that if needing to make calls or text. Unless the power goes out, then you're really unplugged and detached from the world (which only happened one night, but I enjoyed it regardless). Comfortable room with NO TV (no complaints here, just an observation. But hey, you're not there to load in the room and watch TV, are you?). Self service breakfast in the morning was convenient and quiet with great views. Deck outside is spacious and welcoming. A big plus is that there is a restaurant/bar inside the hotel with several food and beverage options. Once the car is parked, no need to leave the property. I had no issues during my stay. I'd highly recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting the area. I am looking forward to returning again for some relaxing trail riding and peaceful scenery. A typical day while I was there was: up early, breakfast, get the cycling gear, grab the bike, do some biking, head back to the hotel, change, have some dinner then evening drinks on the deck while looking up at the stars and listening to fish jump in the creek. read more

The location alone is worth coming here. Large dining room windows overlook the picturesque Pine Creek. The spacious deck is perfect whenever the bugs or heat are not oppressive. Relax on the wrap around porch, kick back on the Adirondack chairs while sipping a beer from decent variety of beers. We had a great weekend at Hotel Manor. Our room was comfortable and very clean. All the food we ate was absolutely delicious from the crab cake to the buffalo chicken sandwich to the pulled pork and our son loved the chicken tenders. Good atmosphere. Food is where it all goes downhill. I hardly ever write bad reviews, . I keep giving this place a shot, but I finally give up.  1.) No prices on the dinner menu. They literally make it when they give you the bill.They are no where posted, ANYWHERE. I have to research the legality of this.  2.) Problem with flys in dining area, they're everywhere. It's like the apocalypse. 3.). The food. First, was the clam chowder. Decent, but had better from a can. Tip for the cook, add clam juice. Also, the cook is so "proud" of the soup, when the waitresses are asked for old bay seasoning, they are instructed to say that they do not carry any. I am not the only one who asks. They do, they used it as a garnish for the meal that brought me to actually write a bad review. 3.). Ordered the Maui Maui with scallops. Felt in the mood, since they don't have a dinner menu, and only 3 items for the Dinner special. This is how I know they have Old Bay seasoning, as it was used as a garnish. The presentation of the plate was great. But someone needs to send the cook to a restaurant school, or maybe even a Denny's so they know the basics. The rice pilaf, tasted like it was cooked before, then boiled, not steamed, to be reheated.  Speaking of boiling, that's how the food tasted like it was cooked. Scallops are usually pan seared. Not here, Old Bay on top adds the color. Try poached. Not even steamed, poached. And the Maui Maui, same. And raw still. See the attached pictures.  4.) the bill surprise. Now a kids meal is $7. DOES NOT include a drink for the meal. So add $2 for lemonade I had a blue moon beer in a bottle. Figure $5. Now my bill came to $41. So doing the math, that would leave my meal at $27. I live just outside of Philadelphia. Maybe at a 4 star, I could accept that price for an entree due to the training of the kitchen staff,  but let's be serious. Sysco supplies the food. It's frozen. Last minute arrangements to ride Jersey shore to Wellsboro on the pine creek trail for my 60th birthday. Hotel Manor made the experience perfect. Tonya the owners wife was warm caring sweet and a 10 with customer service. She went above and beyond to accommodate us. The food was just perfect. The crab cake beautiful, highly recomend. We biked the Pine Creek trail, starting at Marsh Creek, and ended at Jersey Shore. Hotel Manor in Slate Run is about half way, and is where we spent the night. Its just a stone throw from the trail. What a nice, peaceful, relaxing place. We ate on the deck, which offered a great view of Pine creek, and the fall colors. I had their burger, and it was very good. One of the things that surprised me most about the place is the wide variety of bottled beers offered. The food offered for breakfast was also very good, and could be eaten at a table while looking out windows at Pine Creek. After our ride to Jersey Shore, we drove back up toward Welsboro, and stopped back at the hotel for lunch, and had a very good Reuben. Just had a wonderful experience at Hotel Manor. read more

5 star food in the middle of the Pennsylvania wilderness. The Hotel Manor is located at the southern end of the PA Grand Canyon. The gorgeous creek side location of this restaurant/hotel, made me want to the automatically give the Hotel Manor top ratings and once I tasted the food I knew I'd found a gem in the wilderness. The setting may draw people in but the incredible food keeps people returning year after year. I have sampled quite a few of their regular menu items ranging from homemade soups, pizza and burgers to CAB rib-eye steaks and seafood. The owner is definitely a chef and not just a cook, which is evident with the plating and presentation of the entrees even before tasting the wonderful food. The food is great but the one touch that moved this restaurant from 4 stars to 5 stars is the homemade breads/rolls. All bread items are made from scratch in the restaurant. The homemade rolls for the mouthwatering cheese steaks and juicy hamburgers are what put the Hotel Manor over the top! Sitting outside on the deck , watching the kayakers and fishermen in the creek below, while enjoying a delicious meal and ice cold beverage, make the Hotel Manor a memorable dining experience. read more

Our party of 5 went to the Hotel Manor restaurant the Sunday before Memorial Day. We arrived at 7p and both the deck and inside seating were packed. We were told to seat ourselves and waited over 20 minutes for a server to even acknowledge us and bring over a menu. Taking at least a drink order can buy a server a lot of time on a busy night but this did not happen. A server who was off duty but realized they needed help brought us menus but then left and did not return until we had been there nearly 40 minutes. I thought I could give a pass for being drastically understaffed as it was a holiday weekend but even when the tables thinned we still did not receive much attention from the server. We actually went up to the bar to order our second round of drinks. The food was decent. I was not expecting to be blown away but the mushroom soup was good. My husband's trout was a little over-cooked but the risotto cake was nice. I know this restaurant offers a great view and a 2 may be harsh for this review but our service was really unacceptable. read more

An excerpt from my book going LOCAL! Hiking in Pennsylvania is great, but here in Pine Creek Gorge at the gateway to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon it's amazing! I pulled into a Rails-to-Trails parking lot and got some hiking gear together. The smells of the forest hit me right away. Moss, wet earth and most notably ferns, caused me to take a deep breath which got me started. Walking through the towering hardwoods that stood like sentinels all around me I felt small and insignificant. Upon my return the rumbles of hunger were starting. With just a few miles to go to reach Slate Run and the Hotel Manor, I fired up the Sportster and the blast of his pipes echoed through the gorge. We cruised up the next section of road, which got narrower and with huge drop-offs to the left and lose rock cliffs to the right and there was no room for error. I reached the turnoff to Slate Run, passed Wolfe's General Store and Fly Shop and across the bridge. A grand structure of wood and glass, with a design somewhere between Swiss chalet and classic A-frame, awaited me on the other side. The building rose from its surroundings like a sculpture amidst the gallery of nature. Huge glass windows reflected the lines of the steep angled roof, as well as mirrored the immense deck and sparkling creek in the foreground. On the deck were market umbrellas and I could see tables and chairs underneath and most of them were filled with folks enjoying dinner. If the outside wasn't amazing enough, the inside just blew me away. At this point, it was clear that everything I was seeing here was new and absolutely beautiful! Since they were so busy, I just walked up to the bar to get something to wash down the dust of the road. I braced myself for the usual rural offerings of only big-batch, small-taste beers, but what I saw almost brought a tear to my eye. It was a sign that read "Tröegs - Proudly Served at the Hotel Manor." Was I still asleep and dreaming, or had I unknowingly passed through a wormhole and came out in a parallel universe where men and women realize the beauty of craft beer and going local? But maybe I had simply come across a new breed of restaurateur. Well, according to the scientific principle Acoms Razor - the simplest solution tends to be the correct one. So I asked for a cold bottle of Tröegs Rugged Trail and made for the big Adirondack chairs on the porch. As I sat there enjoying my beer and writing of the days events in my sketchbook, a very classy car pulled up in front of the hotel and an older gentleman got out and made his way to the door. As he approached we looked at each other (as folks tend to do) and I flicked my head up and said "hi." Without hesitation he said, "I know you. You're Ken Hull the artist." I asked how he could have possibly known that. He replied, "I love your work and own several pieces." He introduced himself as Phil Zimmerman, ordered a glass of wine and sat down beside me. Once Phil heard of my journey and that I was camping out that night he offered to buy me dinner. We sat outside under a giant tree that came up through the floor of the deck. Phil ordered the special that night which was Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon and drizzled with a fiddlehead fern and cranberry reduction sauce, accompanied by twice mashed sweet potatoes which were lightly topped with garlic butter. His vegetable was asparagus drizzled with olive oil and finished with shaved Parmesan. I ordered a small pizza. We enjoyed our meals and chatted for an hour or so before Mark appeared again, this time bearing dessert. He sat with us while sipping coffee and told me more about his place. He is as passionate as they come and lives to serve connoisseurs, fisherman, locals and travelers like me. His place is smoke-free and he uses local produce whenever he can. The Hotel Manor is also a licensed, certified Angus Beef restaurant and Mark said he's open to accommodate all dietary needs. And if the spacious dining room, the fly-fishing inspired bar, and the huge deck overlooking Pine Creek weren't enough, the Hotel Manor is also as its name implies, a hotel too! Breakfast is included with your stay and I was tempted to check in for the night. However, I had my heart set on sleeping under the stars. So with the daylight beginning to wane, I thanked Mr. Zimmerman for all his generosity and taking the time to hang out with me. I also thanked Mark for his hospitality (and dessert). I mounted my bike and headed north towards my next adventure. Enjoy! read more

We have stayed here three three times as we come to ride on the bike trail at the bottom of the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania-one of the best bike trails in the United states. One day we go south and the other day, north. This is the best place to stay right on the trail as there are good accomodations and a nice restraurant. As busy as they were and despite Covid restrictions, the staff was very attentive to everything from checking us in to our delicious food that we ate creekside, while enjoying the beautiful views of the Pine Creek and the bald eagles that we saw. Outdoor dining on deck or tables down by creek. No table service. Limited menu. You order at a walk up window and they call your name when it's ready. This is well worth the drive. We have eaten here a few times and it is our new go to place for a nice dinner. I love eating there when the weather is nice. The outside deck overlooking Pine Creek is beautiful. I had the steak salad the first time and it was delicious! The salad was fresh and the steak was cooked perfectly. I've stayed here twice and until they disappoint, I'll keep coming back. Let me address the negatives posted about this place. The bar & restaurant do close earlier than what most people are accustomed to, but this isn't a place to come to for the all-night party scene. People come here to enjoy Mother Nature at her finest, at the end of a fun-filled, outdoor recreational day, they want to get a bite to eat, maybe have a drink or two and head to bed to do it all over again the next day. If you want the party scene, Williamsport is not too far away and they have plenty of bars that stay open til 2AM. This place isn't for you... I stayed here to bike ride the Pine Creek trail with friends. The Inn / B&B has 10 rooms and features a great view of the creek, and a bar & restaurant with outdoor eating, weather permitting. The rooms are clean with central heat and AC and each with their own bathroom. Bathroom amenities are OK, water pressure and temp. is just fine. There is a sitting room overlooking the dining hall that you can watch television. Free continental breakfast is provided. The bar has a nice selection of reasonably priced drinks and all dining is 1st Come, 1st Serve - no reservations - and it's gets busy so come early. The food is very good, reasonably priced and served quote promptly, even when busy. The staff is small-town super friendly. Free WiFi is spotty at best but remember why you're here. Over-all it's a very nice charming B&B. read more

A beautiful time with friends, celebrating life after healing from cancer, COMPLETELY SPOILED by theft. Since you decided, whether it be the cleaner or management, to keep my gorgeous gold watch that I left behind, I feel it only fair for you to know about the woman that gifted it to me that no longer walks this world. She was a beautiful and generous soul who had no family left and took us and the love we offered at face value and became one of ours. That watch was her offer of gratitude and love to us for inviting her to our family. She had little enough to spare. I hope when you wear it or see it on your loved one you think of her, and her generosity and know that she sees exactly what you did. And shame on you. Shame on this establishment for not having the Integrity to answer over 6 phone calls in the course of a week. For not returning my messages nor apologizing for the theft of my property. Shame on me for leaving it behind that is a great source of pain for me. I have asked her forgiveness. It was only a matter of a few hours before I called you. The one time I spoke with someone on the phone they assured me the cleaner had been in and that it would be in a Closet in Lost and Found and that it would be returned to me. That was the last communication I had from this establishment. I have considered a small claims suit but one thing I've learned over the journey of life and healing is that I need to forgive for my own welfare and health. And to pick the important battles. I will leave my reviews here and elsewhere and I will notify the Better Business Bureau and then I will let it go. And I will breathe and let the knowledge that the Universe will return to you what you put out. And it will return to me what I do. My almost 70 year old father was unable to eat a very, very spicy chili and returned it. When the bill came, he was charged half price. He asked for the owner and was told "well I can't resell it". Seriously? The owner was extremely rude and provoking. At one point he said "just give me the bill" to which my father responded that he would not expect any type of refund on all of the food that was eaten (and enjoyed). He simply questioned why an establishment would charge half price for something that was sent back to the kitchen. He actually asked my father if he wanted to go outside. Not kidding! The owner appears to be in his early 40s and he wanted to fight my 70yo dad over the $3? He claimed it was because he didn't want his child to hear the word a$$hole. Total lie. They were not even in earshot. But I digress...... The bottom line is that a place that is rude to a customer and can't take a bowl of chili off a check because it had to be sent back, is a place that will NEVER get our money again. I would stay away unless you have your patience meter set on high. They are zero for three with my wife and I. Each time the wait staff says they are short handed, they act overwhelmed even when they aren't busy. The food is OK, the view on the deck is excellent. So if you don't mind either waiting a long time for your food or watching other patrons that entered well after you sat down get served ahead of you. Then enjoy. We won't be going back though. Stayed here one night with some friends as we were on a multi day flyfishing trip through north central PA. Read the reviews and didn't know what to expect. Although I've driven by he place in the past I never stopped for a bite to eat or drink or spend the night. Let me say that I had a wonderful stay and found the accommodations great, staff and owner friendly, and good value. I arrived about 7:15 and checked in. The deck for the restaurant was crowded and I asked how late the kitchen and bar are open til. 7:30 and 8 pm respectively. Dropped my bags in the room and headed down. Long and short, bottle beer was $5/bottle but they had a good selection of craft IPAs to choose from. Got a Rueben sandwich and it was terrific. Service was good. Now as for closing early, I don't know why hey wouldn't stay open until 9 in the summer months. I mean there were 8 guys fishing in the river out front that evening and it doesn't get dark until almost 8:30-8:45. If it was me, I'd sure want something to eat and drink when I come off the river but I won't end my day if fishing early as the best time is right before dusk. Is what it is. The room was clean, bed comfortable and bathroom clean as well. Had a cozy cabin feel. There was also a common area with a tv and couches/chairs where we watched a hockey game and had an adult beverage. And continental breakfast was included. We had 2 very good dinners this past weekend. Good, friendly service. That's where it ends. I requested that our room be changed for the 2nd night due to the fact that room 203 was an adjoining room with 204. The connecting door must have been made of cardboard because it sounded like the neighbor was in the room with us. The door did nothing to hide the light and sound from the other room. Not a good thing after a long bike ride and hoping to get some sleep. I asked to be moved the next night and while the place was empty, I was given a song and dance about something having to do with maid service. huh? If you go, don't plan on getting any sleep unless you spend the night at the bar with the locals. read more

The outside looks nice, the inside looks decent as well, but the prices of the food, simply ridiculous. The menu is extremely limited and overpriced. And the waitstaff is unbelievably rude. You should never go here and the following is why: My daughter and I visited Hotel Manor in August 2012. We waited for a table to be cleared (not a big deal). The lady who cleared the table said, "Your waitress will be with you shortly." Nothing out of the usual so far. Flash forward ten minutes. All other customers have been waited on except my daughter and I. Thinking it is an oversight, we attempt to get our waitress' attention. We know she's our waitress because the person who cleared our table is the only other waitress near to our table. The waitress pretends not to hear us and scoots around the dining area to avoid walking by our table. Interesting. Flash forward another ten minutes and many attempts to gain attention from the waitress. I walk up to the waitress and ask her if she could please get our waitress, as we have been waiting a while. Boy, did I ever open up a can of worms! Apparently, the two waitresses were feuding over tables and neither one wanted our table. This had nothing to do with my daughter and I, since they don't know us. It was simply a case of two bickering waitresses with a grudge against each other behaving in a passive aggressive manor toward the customer. Ten minutes later, a waitress showed up. I really LOVE this place.....but forget eating here if you are hungry! Everyone was very nice, no complaints there. 5 Stars for the gorgeous location and the fabulous deck! ( Enjoy some drinks or coffee and enjoy the beautiful view. ) 3 Stars for the room and breakfast room: ( Nice room: attractive, perfectly clean, but none of the rooms have a TV! Also, no table/chairs; at least not in our room. Did not like these 2 negatives. There is aTV room with comfy couches/chairs, computer; but, I like a tv in my room. Breakfast stuff down in the breakfast room, included with room: this is a very nice room, great view, pleasant, relaxing. Toaster, microwave, cooler, fridge. It is stocked at night; has cereals, fresh fruits, bagels, english muffins, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, milk, various juices, scrambled egg omelette wraps........only problem is that you have to hit it VERY early, because the early risers will pretty much clear it out, and I have heard that it is never refilled! ) 2 Stars for the bar closing so early! 9:00 at night??? Ridiculous! Resort kind of location; bar and deck should be open late, at least during late spring, summer, early fall! 1 Star for the Restaurant: Nice, large, pleasant dining room or you can eat on the deck. Dinner offerings exhorbitantly expensive. Dinners I saw had small portions, on top of the horrible prices We also chose not to try the lunch/sandwiches; far too expensive. We had the pizza; which was fair, definitely not impressed. Would not consider eating here again......but I do LOVE the location and the deck. read more

Ribs were great. Clam chowder was ok. Wait staff was nice but management was very non accommodating and belligerent to customers. Better off eating at the Black Forest Inn where the portions are bigger and the food is equally good. read more

I ate at the Hotel Manor a couple of years ago and was completely underwhelmed but I was back in town and thought I would give it another try. This second experience was at least as disappointing as the first. There were four of us and every meal seemed liked warmed up leftovers. The Reuben sandwich was unevenly heated suggesting that it had been warmed up in a microwave. My crab cake sandwich might have been good when it was freshly made but it also was clearly warmed up leftovers. Even the French fries were barely warm and had obviously been cooked some time earlier. The menu is a confusing hodgepodge - what kind of restaurant is this? There is a pulled pork sandwich but it's not a barbecue place. (In my opinion, if pulled pork is on the menu there should be a smoker on the premises and they should also have smoked brisket, ribs, etc. I have to conclude that the pulled pork is probably brought in frozen.) There is chicken Parmesan sandwich but it's not an Italian restaurant. Etc. etc. Two positives are the nice setting and the portion sizes. I'm generally not too hard on bad service because oftentimes waitresses are spread too thin and have too many tables to look after, but when you can hear the waitresses having lengthy conversations by the bar (including discussions of their ignominious clubbing experiences from the preceding night) they ought to be able to keep your water glass full. Oh and one other note about our waitress - we asked how the burger was and she replied that she was very picky about burgers and so hadn't tried it. Hardly a vote of confidence.
