Continuing on our way to the reunion, my partner and I made a 2nd stop at this village called Nauvoo in Tioga county (PA). The word in Hebrew means beautiful, a place of rest and beauty. It was a Mormon settlement during the 1840s and named after the Mormon city in Illinois. This location lies on the line between the towns of Liberty and Morris. We meandered among the farm homes and arrived at the Linck Hill Inn. Built in 1900 by twin brothers John and Daniel Linck, the old Heyler mansion had 30-plus rooms. Being a classic Victorian, it had high ceilings, ornate woodwork, hardwood floors and even a dumb waiter. The Linck family lived there until the 1950s. It was then sold to the Paul Witt family who operated it as a personal care home. It was then further sold in 1990 to Nelson and Rose Yoder who continued to run the personal care facility until 2003. Today it is owned by Three Springs Ministries with 14 bedrooms for the use as a retreat and conference facility for adults. read more
