We were placed in a room that did not have a view. Instead of looking out at the air conditioner, unit and ceiling on the second floor, they placed a "stained glass "window to mask that. That was appreciated and nice, but the room was small and felt claustrophobic. The sink had zero counter space to place your items such as makeup, toothpaste, etc. I would've liked to have more space for toiletries. The bed was not very comfortable as it creaked and the mattress was lumpy. We are not oversized people so that kind of surprised us for the price we paid. The walls and floors are thin. On the second floor we heard everything including someone's barking dog! Sometimes we thought we heard thunder but as we could not see outside of the window we didn't know for sure. The room felt like an interior cabin on a cruise ship - claustrophobic. We did appreciate the good air-conditioning, and the comfortable robes which were complementary to use while there. The room was decorated nicely and the decor was modern and updated. The building is conveniently located to all things you will need while there. I would stay here again, but I would like to have a room that was a little more comfortable.

The good thing about this hotel is the location. It's near so many restaurants that you can walk to easily. If you're into coffee there is a coffee shop connected to the lobby. Plus a brew pub called Glenwood Canyon Brew Pub that is also connected to the hotel lobby. If you're in town for the Glenwood adventure park or Iron mountain Hot springs they have discounted tickets available at the hotel front desk and online when you are booking a reservation. The parking is somewhat difficult but not impossible to find a spot to stay overnight. Most spots are 2 hour 9am-6pm spots. After 6 they're free for all for overnight parking. We came on a Friday and we were able to find parking everytime for our 2 night stay. If you're unlucky the hotel does offer paid parking. The walls are fairly thin and yes its true, you can hear mighty footsteps and rolling carts fly by through the door. My boyfriend once thought it was so loud he thought someone was about to come into the room. We stayed in the King bed suite. It was a decent size had a small closet to hang clothes, lots of drawers and very minimal space in the bathroom! You get your complimentary sample size shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a bar soap, 2 makeup wipes and lotion. *BONUS* you get two very nice robes to use (for no extra charge) hiding in the closet during your stay. Which we chose to use at the Hot springs! The bed- it was decently comfortable I would give it a 5/10. The pillows a 1/10. The pillows are extremely thin and poofy. If you live in colorado and coming to visit I'd suggest to bring your own pillow if you can! Others mentioned that the AC was extremely loud and I did not experience this at all in our room. It was easy to adjust the temp to our liking and no loud sounds. In conclusion, my partner and I stayed for 2 nights and thats the max that I would stay at this hotel. It was a cool historical experience but next time I will be staying at a different hotel. Staff was nice and friendly and helpful. Although renovated, the space in the bathroom lacked and the beds and pillows weren't up to my expectations, especially for what was paid.

Wonderful feels like new in a perfect location boutique hotel! I have been visiting Glenwood Springs my entire life and always stayed the Hotel Colorado as my great great grandfather's company were the carpenters contracted to build the hotel. This time, with a family of my own we wanted something with more space, newer and closer to restaurants, etc. We made an excellent choice! One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in through our travels worldwide! Great amenities, easy parking, amazing space. We will return!!!

The Hotel Maxwell Anderson used to be known as the Hotel Denver. I don't know the history of the name change, but there's still signage on the building that declares the old name. This building is historic and absolutely stunning. The decor in the lobby area is 1920's glam and makes me wish I was dressed in a fancy cocktail dress rather than my tourist wardrobe of sneakers and shorts. I half expect a scene from a movie to unfold in front of me at any time-it's that glamorous. The room I stayed in was very comfortable and spacious. The bed was cozy and we had all the basic necessities with the exception of tissues or a microwave. It's weird that there was a fridge, but no microwave. The location is perfect for those arriving by train, like we did. They are pretty strict with their check-in time, we were not able to get into our room early and noticed that other people were turned away too. They must stay pretty busy and need all that time to get rooms turned over between guests. There are a couple restaurant/coffee shops onsite, but no free breakfast. There are also lots of options nearby within walking distance.

Our room - large chest of drawers

Great location, tastefully renovated hotel, friendly staff. No housekeeping over three night stay. No closet or bar for coat-hangers. 3 coat hooks by the front door. We were continually stumbling over open suitcases on the floor. Huge chest of drawers, though.

Chandelier much too low. The only two pictures were oddly placed and too small for the space.

Conveniently located, comfortable, and quiet. Service was good. Price was very reasonable. Bed was comfortable and the room was clean. All the expected hotel comforts and conveniences were there, so no points off for the following: The decor. It was not offensive, but it was not cohesive. Our room had a chandelier (hanging between the bed and the desk) which is hung in an awkward spot and so low that my husband hit his head on it anytime he walked next to the bed. Okay, so that's actually inconvenient. The pictures on the wall in our room are not scaled for the room and one is hung too low and one is hung too high. Whoever designed the room missed some opportunities for using the wall space to enhance the room. The bathroom sink design was a poor attempt at modern industrial. The plumbing, including plumber's tape, should not be the thing one has to look at when sitting on the toilet. The real oddball design is the mix of small framed art on the multi story lobby walls. One cannot see the higher level art looking up from the lobby floor, but can see most of it if you climb the stairs. It's a disjointed mix of western, art deco, modern, and botanical art. It would be pretty cool if they stuck to one theme, but this missed the mark. It's rather like being a mouse looking up at a random collection of refrigerator magnets found at a flea market. And yet, the actual hotel qualities were so fine, I will still rate it 5 stars.

It's not the most upscale option in town, but for the price, the location at the base of the adventure park, and a few key amenities, it has worked well for our family--until this visit. Three hours before check-in, we received a call informing us that the pool had to be drained, cleaned, and refilled due to an accident. Completely understandable--things happen that are out of everyone's control. What was disappointing, however, was the way the situation was handled from there. When I spoke with Mia (who I later learned is the GM or Assistant GM), I was met with an unnecessarily rude and dismissive tone while being told there would be no compensation due to the unexpected closure. To be clear, I would have accepted that answer had it been communicated professionally. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Instead, the conversation felt condescending, and the fact that we were "notified in advance" was repeatedly emphasized--as if a three-hour notice is a generous heads-up. Given that the pool is a major draw for families (and a big reason we choose this hotel), more proactive communication would have gone a long way. Even a day's notice could have allowed guests to make alternative plans. When we arrived, the pool was already nearly full, so it's reasonable to assume this issue wasn't discovered at the last possible moment. It's also worth noting that there appeared to be ample downtime among staff, including management, to reach out to guests staying that day or the next. A quick call ahead would have shown consideration and basic customer service. At the end of the day, situations like this are less about the inconvenience itself and more about how they're handled. Unfortunately, this interaction set the tone for our entire stay. It's disappointing that one conversation can outweigh multiple prior visits, but in this case, it did. Because of the unprofessional handling of this situation, we won't be returning.

I don't even know why the stairs were closed because they're open today. It is convenient for the ride to the top but I'd rather just pay for parking than pay that kind of money for a hotel that doesn't wow me.

They offer five rooms. One is downstairs adjacent to the distillery and tasting room. It is handicap accessible. The other four are just up a few sets of stairs and have their own balconies. The room we stayed in Ginger is gorgeous. It is modern and offers a ton of space. The bathroom is large with a closet with safe, large counter with oversized sink, bathroom with sliding door and walk in shower with rain and handheld heads. The bed was very comfortable with high quality sheets. There is a gas fireplace and coffee machine and mini fridge. They do offer a minibar and their own spirits to buy. The room had a couch and desk as well as a patio with two chairs to relax in. On the second floor is an outdoor patio with several tables to sit at. We took advantage of unseasonably warm weather in November to eat meals at. The patio has a beautiful view of Carbondale. They provide daily newspapers and in the hallway for the rooms are additional coffee pods, plates and silverware for eating in your room. The owner Connie was extremely helpful going above and beyond to surprise my wife with flowers. She gave me different options and the vase and flowers were in the room when we checked in. She answered questions we had and helped us troubleshoot a small problem with some of the technology. The tasting room is gorgeous. We didn't spend much time there but enjoued live music from the patio (with fireplace) just outside. They have reserved parking for Inn guests behind the building in the alley. They do have free charging for electric vehicles which is very uncommon. We did buy a few bottles of their Moonlight Espresso and Whiskey and they are both delicious and oh so drinkable. The downtown of Carbondale was quiet but filled with lots of restaurants, shops and mountain hospitality. Looking forward to returning to the Distillery Inn on future visits.

This B&B has a comfortable king bed with buttery soft sheets, massive bathroom stocked with all the essentials, breakfast and snacks readily available, and a wonderful hot tub which is a must-have amenity in our book. Nothing like hot tubbing while it's snowing. The sliding door to the bathroom is beautiful but does not offer much privacy or sound barrier. The cast iron tub is great in theory but stepping up into it (and out again) for showers is an adventure. Also, the overflow cutout is low, so you don't get a completely full tub to soak in. There are hooks for coats and other places to unpack clothing, but it would've been great to have access to the closet to fully get our stuff and bag out of the way. Also, this is an old home with creaky floors and stairs which I personally love. However, if you're a light sleeper, you're gonna hear squeaks and the murmur of voices. Bottom line, we had a wonderful time and will be back!
