we couldn't stay here for more than 30 minutes before getting the hell out of there and staying someone safe. the rooms were absolutely disgusting, behind the mirror was a cabinet with disgusting stains, a door that had to be CARVED to fit around the toilet and there was a smokey stench when we turned on the heater. the owners were okay, pretty passive aggressive that we were not satisfied at all, he brought us back to the room so we could "show him what was bad." being right next to the highway with a room that has a "vacant and occupied" sign so anyone would know if we were in our room, not safe at all, especially as young girls. absolutely do not recommend, the price is mind boggling for this place. read more

Glenwood Springs was my final stop along a 10 day national parks journey through fantastic Colorado. Hiking Hanging Lake Trail, visiting Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park and relaxing at Iron Mountain Hot Springs was my itinerary for the day...and I chose to spend the evening here at the Starlight Lodge. What I liked about this place is the rustic little cottage and cabin feel I felt while staying here. This seems to be a common theme about my reviews! Any place I stay where it's quiet and homely...that comfortable vibe always wins me over! So yes...when I checked in, the Starlight Lodge was clearly not some chain hotel you can find anywhere...it was owned by small town folks who warmly welcomed me. Although there are rooms located one after the other alongside and behind the front lobby, my room was actually situated right above check-in on the 2nd floor of the lodge. When I entered the 2nd floor from the outside entrance, you could tell this upstairs area had been renovated to accommodate more room for more guests. This 2nd floor area had 3 - 4 rooms of which 1 of them belonged to me. Upon opening the door to my room....my first impression of the accommodations reminded of staying in a little loft of a rural cabin. I was pleasantly surprised! I had 2 queen beds tucked inside a cozy space with a slanted ceiling along with wooden paneling and flooring. To my good fortune, this was just the place for me! When booking a reservation for the evening...the price for my 1 night stay was affordable at only $65 after taxes. Though...I visited Glenwood Springs in early spring this year...around May 10. I got a great deal, but I can imagine when in winter ski season or during summer travel season the prices are elevated. Starlight Lodge I must mention is located right in the center of Glenwood Springs. It's a short couple minutes drive to any of the attractions around town. For dinner I headed over to Smoke BBQ restaurant and it was simply 5 minutes away from Starlight Lodge. Finally, I also wanted to include that the appearance of the outside of the lodge had an authentic German/Bavarian mountain lodge look to it that stood out when viewing it from the road. I'm glad I chose to stay here. The countryside ambiance combined with the price and convenient location made Starlight Lodge a worthwhile destination for the final evening of my Colorado vacation. read more

Positive: Guy on the phone was super nice. Really close to everything. Gorgeous views. Big room. Clean. Negatives: Hard beds not great mattress, one thin pillow. Bathtub drain didn't work. Water was luke warm in shower, not pleasant when it's a freezing cold day. Shower and conditioner combined in tiny packets. We got three for six people but I had to use two. We were told 129 on price including tax but we're charged 143. It was not worth that. I'd say maybe 2.5 stars. read more

These stars are for location and value. The Starlight is about as close as you can get to the renowned hot springs without staying in their $$$$ on-site rooms. I loved parking here and not getting in the car again till we left. Close to the main street area and a couple good eateries even closer (see other reviews to come). If you are looking for a five star experience, beat it. This review is for people that understand and appreciate need vs. glam. My husband and I had weekend of skiing and hot spring soaking planned and needed a cheap place to stay. We love to support local businesses and sometimes this leads to weird sh*t but most of the time, it's all good and that is so what happened this weekend at Starlight Lodge. All we needed was a comfortable and clean place to sleep and shower between activities and they delivered. It's got a cute motif with the adorable front door and plenty of space in the closet for all our ski gear. Yes, the walls are pretty thin and we knew when all of our neighbors took a shower or coughed loudly. But we were too exhausted to care and like I said, it's clean. It had a queen bed that didn't totally destroy my back, AMAZING water pressure in the shower and when I called to ask for more TP, they came right away. We loved it and you will too. read more

I'm not sure how this place has the high reviews that it does. First off the safety is terrible. Each room literally has a door plate that says vacant or occupied. The last thing I want is someone knowing whether or not I'm in the room. The room we had was dirty and very very outdated. Lastly we were placed in the room right next to the road and it was so noisy we could barely sleep. I would never recommend this hotel. read more

The owners are lovely people and will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. They have beach towels to use for the Glenwood Springs pool, and since we took the train in from Denver, they offered to store our luggage while we walked around town, and they actually drove our luggage to the train station to meet us when we left. I also left my prescription sunglasses in the room and they mailed them to me the same day I called. Be aware that it is a motel, but it's perfectly comfortable for an enjoyable stay. We woke up at 5:30am to get out of there as fast as possible. Dirty rooms with patched drywall all over the place. Horrible beds and 2 of the worst pillows I've ever touched. My friends and I were in Colorado for a quick vacation, and we had heard great things about Glenwood Springs, so we decided to make the drive from Denver out here. It's a nice small town to stay in and enjoy the hot springs! Starlight Lodge is a old timey lodge that does its job well. If you're looking for bougie 5 star breakfast and brand new housing, I'd recommend a newer hotel or resort nearby. This place is cheap, comfortable and has most amenities. Honestly, most of the time was spent outside the lodge, so we were only there to sleep and shower. If you're in the area, I highly recommend visiting the springs, White River National Park, and Hanging Lake. The springs are literally walking distance, and the 2 other parks/trails are right along highway 70. Pros: cheap, good walking distance for food + springs, TV with cable, lots of hot water, fridge + microwave (excellent for leftovers!), coffee maker with coffee and disposable cups. Cons: No hair dryer, toiletries are meh (they have disposable 2 in 1 shampoo+conditioner, some little soaps) - I highly suggest you bring your own if you are somewhat picky like me Also, the owner lady(?) was really nice! We had used the towels earlier in the day and only had 1 clean one between 3 of us to use after our night shower, so we went to the main area and asked for extra ones, which she was nice enough to get us. Last, but not least, I want to give a huge thank you to the owner and the lady who cleaned up after we left! I accidentally left my kindle behind, and they were able to locate it a few days later and gave me a call! I'm extremely grateful to all the staff. Thank you guys for a good time! Will definitely be back if I can make the drive again :) read more

When in Glenwood Springs you have many choices, however road construction lead us to the Starlight. Must say, I met the owner and am truly in love with her and her story of living here in this town for many years!! THIS is what makes a home away from home. We wished to go to the hot springs, but after many days of camping we had clothing to wash, rest needed. The owner not only helped with some issues after hours washing... but gracefully helped us by drying them in office Beautiful, quaint hotel and the kindness shown made for a wonderful visit!! read more

Close to everything you need to get to. Our room was a top floor in the back... incredibly bright & spacious. If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay that is reasonably priced, this is it. As others have stated in their reviews, this is not your modern hotel with comped breakfast and modern updated everything... but we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. read more

My wife and I enjoyed staying here. The room was clean and nice, it had good amenities, and the staff was friendly. Our only complaint is that the thermostat didn't seem to be working. It got so hot at night even in the middle of winter, even though we set it to the absolute lowest. Still though, this didn't ruin our stay or anything, we just opened the window. read more

Had a terrible experience. They charged me $155 for a crappy room, and then double booked our room and did not give me a refund. We had called them asking IF it was possible to get a refund IF we couldn't get back due to a mudslide that trapped us on the other side of road 117. They said no, which was fine with us. We understood that because if they couldn't rent it out to someone that night, it would be lost revenue for them. Keep in mind: We had already checked in, had the key, had gone in the room etc. When we called to ask about the mudslide, we never said we weren't coming back... we had planned to come back after the road was clear... just didn't know when that would be. Meanwhile, The Sunlight Lodge Bed and Breakfast (which was on the other side of the mudslide) gave us a FREE room because they felt bad that we might be stuck for the night. And, it ended up being the most beautiful place ever. Their customer service was INCREDIBLE! The food was amazing, the location was gorgeous, and they had an arcade/billiards/TVs and a full bar. We were grateful to have gotten to stay there. Here's the "WTF" part. The next morning when the road was clear, we drove back to the Starlight, and there was a guy in our room!!! They wouldn't refund us, yet had rented out our room, that we had the key for and everything, to someone else! When we asked for a refund for double booking the room, they would not give it to us. They claimed they had saved us another room for if we came back, "Out of the goodness of their hearts." However, that made NO sense and was never communicated, and we had never cancelled the room! What if Sunlight wouldn't have given us a free room and we had gone back that night, late, after the road finally was cleared? That would have been extremely awkward if we had gotten back and walked into the room that someone else was sleeping in! Thank god we didn't go back earlier!! Long story short, don't stay here. Stay at the Sunlight Lodge Bed and Breakfast, it is 100% worth the drive. And Starlight - I will be nicer about this if you just refund me. It's the principle of the whole experience, I hope you see where I am coming from. read more

Amazing location, walking distance to almost anything you want or need in Glennwood. The staff was friendly, so much so they had to tell us that the maid didn't show up because she'd been drinking and had a headache. The room was not ready, but they were accommodating in allowing us to drop off our things while they finished the room, so we could hurry to catch the 1:00 shuttle from Canyon Bikes ( see my great review for CB on Yelp). When we returned we discovered the shelf in the bathroom was falling out of the wall. Don't try to put anything on it , it will roll off. The coffee pot reservoir was full of mold and mildew. The fridge and the microwave, tv and the lamp were all plugged in to one non-grounded lightweight extension cord under the vanity by the beds! I was afraid to run the microwave and anything else at the same time. This is surely a fire hazard. The rooms were old and shabby, but the sheets and towels were clean and fresh. The entire place is decorated with ancient dried flower arrangements adding to the fire trap ambiance. When I spoke to one of the owners, he blamed the coffee maker and fire hazard on the maids. I let him know the person who cleaned our room was the other owner= his mother! If you don't need any electrical appliances and aren't going to be in the shabby room much, this is a good deal. I'd be afraid another room would catch fire though. If the owners were to spend some money on upgrading this place it would be a gold mine. For now, if I had children with me I would avoid it. IF I were here to hike, bike and raft all day and use the room to sleep in - It would do. Don't count on the microwave and fridge being useable if you are bringing your own food though. read more

We had a hell of a night with car breaking down and getting towed to Glenwood Springs. Found this hotel on my phone while en route and it was the most affordable available that late at night last minute. Andrew at the front desk was so kind and saw our car being towed and gave us a larger room than we'd contracted. It was Room 15 so almost like being in 2 separate hotel rooms (would be great for families with 3 big beds total). It was in a central location and was clean and perfect for what we needed. Quirky but in a good way. And when the next day came and news from the auto shop was depressing, Andrew let us stay in our room a couple extra hours before the rental car was ready. He was super caring and encouraging to us at every opportunity and I have been meaning for days to write this review! Great employee you have and I would stay again if I find myself in GS. read more

We stayed in room 3. Decor was fresh with lovely sunflowers on the table. Room was clean. They allowed us to check in about 3 hours early since they had a room ready. Friendly staff. We asked for extra pillows and coffee. It was no problem and staff were generous. The motel is older. Don't leave a review based on brand new hotel standards. If you want that, pay the $200 per night those hotels charge and get that. It took forever for the water to get hot in the shower but once it got hot it was very hot. I can't think of anything that would have made it better except maybe 2 pillows per person and maybe an upgrade on shampoo and conditioner but both were acceptable. Stayed here for a few days while visiting Glenwood Springs. The staff were VERY VERY kind, so it hurts me to only give them a 2 star rating; BUT the rooms are in need of desperate update and clean up. The carpet had really big horrible stains on them. Every time the room next to us used the water it made a horrible loud noise in our room. The mini fridge made a really loud noise, sadly we had things that had to be kept cold so we didn't have the option of shutting it off. The shower is really funky to use. We did not get good sleep at all. Again, I hate giving them a 2 star rating because they were so nice, but I really do hope they consider updating the rooms. This will be a last resort for us to stay at next time we are at Glenwood Springs. read more

My big gripe was the following: The non-smoking room we stayed in smelled like smoke when we walked in, and we found a half-smoked cigarette and a full one under the bed when we checked out. I will say the location is great and you can walk to most places. It is very loud!!! There is a lot of traffic noise. I think they forgot to vacuum the carpets, I was picking up chips from the previous people in the bathroom and bedroom. The coffee reservoir was dirty. I usually make coffee when I stay in hotels but I wouldn't here. The towels were very old and torn. There was plenty of space in the room and the staff was nice enough. I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. Its the second worst hotel I have ever stayed at, the first being the Motel 6 in San Ysidro, CA. The place is just run down and if that were the only problem it would be ok but it was also filthy. We didnt feel comfortable walking on the carpet in bare feet it was so stained and the room just smelled. The shower was basically a pipe coming out of the wall that poured down straight. The bed was so old and uncomfortable I think we got, maybe, a total of 2 hours of sleep. There was a huge beach mural on the wall that was yellowing and had drippy stuff coming down from the ceiling. Also I am not sure what the creamy, white stuff was on the right side of that wall. I refuse to believe it was anything other than oatmeal that had been spilled, not wiped up and allowed to dry. I wish people would stop giving stars for location as that was one of the reasons we decided to try it because it was $10 cheaper than Hangling Lake Inn (which really IS an amazing value and clean to boot!) The towel they gave us to lay on the floor to shower had several hairs weaved into the fabric (either pubic or mustache? and was at best, gray. The place has potential but until they do something to clean up the place they wont be seeing us again. Hopefully I can upload a pic that shows some of this. read more
