This was the cheapest hotel we found near Aspen at $200 a night in June. We enjoyed our stay here, and I was awestruck by the heated toilet seat. The complimentary breakfast was on par with what I would expect at an inn. The room was nice. The only thing that was really bothersome was opening the door to the room. We punched the code correctly so many times, and we were only able to successfully open it once. We had to get the employee to come open it another time, and he punched the code in multiple times before it finally worked. He didn't really say anything to us and just walked away. Here is my honest review. The bed was good; the pillows were good; the linens were good. It was clean. The heated toilet seats were interesting, but if you're going to go to that extent, I would recommend adding a bidet. A bidet a day. That's amore! The walls were thin so you may want to bring a white noise sound machine. It was a good value. Not that far from Aspen and right off a very charming downtown Basalt. We found the location convenient with access to a variety of restaurants nearby and within a reasonable drive to the ski areas. The room was very clean, it was nice to have a bedroom separated from a small living area and Thomas at the front desk was very accommodating. However, the room description said there would be a mini-fridge and Keurig, but the Queen Deluxe rooms do not include these amenities. Thomas found an extra fridge and moved it into the living area. The next issue was the heating system. We couldn't get it to come on the first evening. We checked all the programming settings to no avail, but it must have come on in the night because the room was warm when we woke up and there were plenty of clanging noises at night. Thomas came and looked at it the next day and couldn't find any issues with the programming, but reset the system. Later we figured out that it must be the battery and Thomas provided replacements. Although the other people at the hotel were quiet, we did hear a lot of noises coming from the building; creaking from the person walking above, clanging from the heat system and something that sounded like loud dripping woke me up a lot at night. The pedestal sink also leaked slightly, but we put the bath mat there & that was enough to keep the water from the floor in front of the sink. I would consider staying again, but would request an upper level room. Our friend staying above us reported no nighttime noises. read more

I was very disappointed. I would have been happy with a standard motel room. This was worse. The area was divided into 2 rooms. The "living room" was two wooden chairs with padded seats (like from an ER waiting room) facing a TV. Ridiculously uncomfortable. There wasn't even a table to set a beverage on. The "bedroom" had a basement-style window that was even with the ground. This window had been left open, and the screen (which had tape hanging from it from a previous repair) was not attached to of the frame - so basically a window, at ground level, that any bug, rodent, or bad dude could easily access. Because this was the only window and it clearly wasn't safe to leave open, I had to run the a/c (which was crazy loud) All night. As I had forgotten my book and there was no TV with comfortable seating, I decided to pull my laptop out and stream something or at least check my social media. Sorry, nope, the WiFi was so slow that every webpage refused to load. Maybe I was given the worst room or maybe they're all like that, I have no idea. But I definitely would not recommend. read more

We stayed 3 nights in the Green Drake suite, a large unit with a king bed in a separate bedroom. The living room has a full size sleeper sofa, lounge chairs, and wet bar. Bistro table and chairs in dining room. The room was very clean. The only negatives were the kitchen did not include utensils and there was no chest of drawers to store our clothes. At check-in I was advised that the continental breakfast was very basic and was offered some suggestions for dining elsewhere. The staff was uniformly friendly and helpful so I would not hesitate to stay here again. read more

Stayed here a few times and nothing but positive things to say about the Basalt Mountain Inn: Pros -Great location, walk-able distance from basically anything in downtown Basalt and about 20-25 mins from Aspen, Buttermilk, Snowmass etc. -Spacious rooms that include microwave, fridge with small freezer and some counter top space -Free breakfast with your stay (I will admit we have not had it either time) but its the standard continental -Beds are not great but also very average Cons -I am just not a fan of baseboard heaters, IMO they are either 200 degrees and you are sweating to death or 20 degrees and you are cold -Not the cheapest hotel but you are paying for location in proximity to Aspen -Not dog friendly Overall, if you are looking for a place to stay in the valley or just driveable distance from the Aspen ski areas, would recommend these guys. read more

Do not stay here! This place has changed ownership since we stayed last year, and it shows. We were greeted by an incredibly rude man named Max De Maria who told us he was the new owner, but we later found out he was a mere trainer. The carpet stunk of a new chemical smell and made my husband sick. Max refused to help, but offered a fan. He never brought it. we had to get it ourselves.There were stains all over the nasty sofa, and the only air conditioner was crammed up against the bed so it blew on us all night. The lighting was horrible in bathroom, the door stuck, no screens and we had to leave the window open due to the smell. They also didn't tell us we would be without a room for four hours when we switched rooms the last night! They told me we would have to switch in order to stay four days, but regretted that bit of info. Horrible service. They told us we could store items in the office and then Max refused us, and lost his temper. We got lucky and found a better place nearby immediately, thank goodness! We did not expect luxury having stayed there before, but we did expect cleanliness and good service and were so disappointe. read more

This was a really cute place with great customer service. It's updated and modern with a separate bedroom. The only thing is there was no fridge or microwave in the room. I recently was in Snowmass, Colorado for business. In a pinch I needed to stay somewhere nearby and my client booked this hotel for me. Basalt is a short drive from Snowmass and Aspen. I stayed one night in a guest room with king bed, kitchenette and bathroom. The lady at the front desk was extremely friendly when I walked into the lobby. She told me all about some local events, gave me advice on places to eat & made me feel very welcome. She also explained that the hotel had recently undergone a large renovation. As soon as I got to my room I could tell everything was brand new with a warm & modern feel. My room was fairly small, but that was fine since it was just me. The free WIFI worked perfectly and didn't sign me off constantly like some hotels do. The hotel is right in the middle of downtown Basalt with a great view of the nearby mountains. There were several good places to eat within walking distance which was great since the weather was gorgeous that night. I had the continental breakfast the next morning which was OK. I typically don't complain about free continental breakfasts since they're free. The coffee was hot & I had some cereal & oatmeal. Nothing to get too excited about, but it hit the spot. While eating breakfast I chatted up a lady at the front desk. She was also extremely friendly. I would highly recommend staying here if you're on vacation or just passing through. The pricing is significantly better than Aspen and its not too far away. With the recent renovations & friendly staff, I would definitely consider staying again. read more

The hotel manager called me to say the rooms were cancelled because the new owners would be taking over our rooms for the three days we had already booked them. Basalt Mountain Inn made a mistake on a pricing, and after I booked the room and payed for the whole trip (air fair, car rental, and so on) they called me last minute to tell me that THEY MADE A MISTAKE, AND NOW I have to pay 10 times more. I understand, mistakes can happen, but they way they handle it, that I can't understand.....the manager instead of helping me and see what he can do to fix their own mistake, find any solution or give me a discount or anything..... was super rude, abrasive and very aggressive. He used intimidation as a tactic to scare me...That is not good. So now, I not only lost a lot of money on this whole trip, because of their mistake, but I also emotionally got spit in a face. I've visited Colorado first time in my life and it was very nice (especially the people). Booked a room at this place beginning of 2015 night time, and then realized there was a little storm coming. Asked a police officer if I should take the risk and go there, he said NO. Called the place next morning, trying to cancel and explain the situation, he said come over, it'll all be good. Idk about the place but prefer no to take any risks. Tried to cancel it trough the credit cart, didn't work (policy of 72 hrs cancelation), if you die on the road or miss the flight, what dose their policy help you.... By the way the policy come to protect them from staying empty on a very busy season.! when we visited, most of the hotels we been to, we been on our own... First of all, I really should have paid more attention to the other reviews on here regarding the customer service. I have NEVER experienced such awful treatment at a hotel establishment in my life. Maybe if I had looked, I would have stayed elsewhere. Everyone, from the disgruntled woman at the front desk to the general manager, were unhelpful, unaccommodating and worst of all, just plain rude. I was there a few weeks ago for my cousin's wedding. The bride and groom had booked a block of rooms for their guests to reserve. The first problem that arose was when the bride wanted to check out the rooms before booking. The general manager promised her he would contact her if someone else wanted to book for their date to give her time to check it out. If someone else did, he would contact her and give her the option of putting down a deposit. Did this happen? No. She went to Colorado and upon checking out the room was told that it was already booked for their wedding date. At this point, they probably should have explored their other options. However, given the cost effectiveness for their guests, they decided to let it slide. The second issue that arose was the horrendous attitude of the woman at the front desk whenever guests needed to make a change. One family member needed to switch her room because she was in a wheelchair and her room was on the top floor and she needed to be on the bottom floor. Was she treated with sensitivity and respect? Not even a little bit. One guest's reservation was "lost" because another staff member failed to scroll to the top of his computer screen! This was, in all honesty, a simple mistake. But it was handled VERY poorly by the staff. There were also other booking errors that the manager then tried to blame on the bride, saying it was her fault that her guests needed to make minor changes in their reservations. The entire experience was unpleasant. This was a wedding and the management and staff at Basalt Mountain Inn almost seemed like they were TRYING to make it a negative experience for everyone. To make matters worse, the bride left a review on TripAdvisor after it was all over and the manager had the nerve to reply with bold face LIES. He said her guests were screaming and yelling and that they were the worst "wedding group" he had ever seen. Not only was this NOT true, but even if it were, what type of manager goes onto a public forum and instead of apologizing for his behavior and that of his staff, blames the customer? Clearly professionalism and humility are not priorities of this truly despicable establishment. Simply awful. read more

We stayed at Basalt Inn between October 22, 2015 and October 26, 2015. We were going to Aspen and then Telluride and wanted a place to stay so we would not have to drive at night. I checked different hotels in and around Aspen and most were expensive or not suitable. There was another hostel for the same price as Basalt Inn but it looked much less accommodating, I never had experience with this Inn before so decided to take my chance for the great price. I was not expecting much for my money. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. Excellent Communication regarding change of plans or special requests. - Their excellent service started before we even got there. They emailed me my reservation confirmation and I emailed them back just to give info on my party. They acknowledged my email the next morning. Suddenly change of plans happened and I had to move my reservation back one day, they were more than happy to do it. I had emailed them late night Houston time and got a response early next morning, I didn't even have to call them to get this request processed they took care of it right away! When we went to check in I asked them if they were able to give us a king bed because the queen was a bit tight for us and they upgraded us without any additional charge. We also requested a room towards the back of the street in a quiet area and that request was also fulfilled. Our room was nice and clean. I think some reviewers were probably visiting when it was being renovated but we came to nice clean crisp ready hotel room. Room - Nice big bed, clean sheets, paper plates and cups and plastic ware. Coffees, very nice and big fridge no those small mini ones where nothing fits. Microwave and ice bucket to mention a few. Bathroom is nice and big and clean, shower is veryyy spacyyy. Closet space is biggg and hangers are plenty. Table and Chair and lamps with MORE THAN ENOUGH LIGHTING. They do offer breakfast but the nice lovely lady at the front desk also suggested an excellent place to eat breakfast such as Two Rivers Cafe. I had done my research on this Cafe and did plan to try it and we were not disappointed. They also just did not treat us like a random guest, they made conversation with us like friends and showed interest in our going abouts which was very nice. The room was nice and quiet, there are plenty was restaurants and a nice friendly gas station around the corner. You can also go visit the river that runs through town. We also found out about a little history about Basalt and the locals there are a very tight knit community who are always supporting and helping each other in good times and bad times. I would support Basalt anyday because Aspen already has a well off crowd to support their economy. People in this nice town rely on visitors like us who stay there and use their resources. Special note regarding Sandra K from California --- I have vacationed in and around Aspen more than EIGHT times and pleasee do not follow her advice of going to Aspen to look for a hotel. Unless you are willing to pay for tap water and parking and other things. Aspen hotels are very overpriced EVEN IN THE OFF SEASON even the basic hotels like Inns are expensive. I think someone just has too much money laying around and not enough Colorado experience. Aspen is a 30 minute drive you wont even feel it. Hang out in Aspen as late as you want, grab something to eat before you leave, get home and warm it up and you have dinner. DO NOT DRINK and then drive down. Also the people who are writing bad reviews on every website regarding this Inn just have an axe to grind and nothing more. The couple who own this are wonderful people and will go above and beyond to accommodate you. read more

We stayed two nights in room #14 which is up a staircase over the reception area. We could see the top for Mt. Sopris out our window. It appears the rooms have recently been updated, but when I inquired with the front desk person she said it was about five years ago. I thought they maybe weren't done remodeling since the rooms were quite spartan. There's not a picture on the wall to create any ambiance, just blank walls. No hooks of any kind for coats, so we had to drape them on the sofa. No dresser in the bedroom or any place to lay items. There is a closet unit, ours had four hangers for the two of us. The bathroom is small with a pedestal sink, so we had to pull an ottoman up to the door to lay toiletries on. Really could be such a cute and comfortable place if they'd finish decorating. Just a picture or two on the wall, a few hooks on the wall for coats and a dresser would help make the room complete. There is a kitchen area with small fridge, coffeemaker and microwave, but absolutely no utensils except for a few paper cups and plates. We wanted to sit outside on our front patio area, so had to get two chairs from down the walk to be able to sit outside. The breakfast was spartan as well, not a piece of fresh fruit, or any fruit, in sight. Basically white carbs and sugar. Even the front desk person recommended we go someplace else for breakfast when we checked in! It had the feel that they gave up on finishing touches and rest on the fact that their location will sell the place. We were woken up both mornings by loud vacuuming at 9am (bad if you have any sort of hangover). I can't believe this place. I booked a room a week in advance and was so excited to stay here for a weekend, but I never got a chance to. They were evacuated due to wildfires and didn't have the courtesy to give me a call and tell me. So, after a 4 hour drive here, all I saw was a piece of paper on the door saying EVACUATED. Honestly I can't believe this place is that unprofessional that they couldn't give their guests a call to tell them this. Horrible customer service. I arrived at 11:30 PM after driving 4 hours from Denver to get here. Nobody in the office - a sign says call this number for emergencies. The lady says my key should be in the mailbox - no key I tell her. She says, well the office will be open at 7:00 AM and they can help you then. I say 'what am I supposed to do tonight - she says again, the office will be open at 7:00AM Unfriekenbelievable. How do they stay afloat! Don't stay here - avoid at ALL costs!! So now at midnight I'm trying to find a place to stay in Basault - good luck!! By the way - this was a PREPAID hotel. Bad form!! Shame on you guys!! read more

This place is a total gem! In the middle of downtown so you can walk to everything. Rooms are nicely remodeled. We are in unit 20 and totally recommend. We have a separate bedroom from the living room/kitchenette which is perfect for staying with a toddler as we can stay up after she goes to bed. I had to cancel within the 72 hrs due to a death in our family, they said they would not charge me if they could re-book the room. This was peak season in mid July and I highly doubt they could not re-book for a Saturday night. The first night was within that time but the 2nd night was well before the 72 hrs. I called and the Manager he was quite rude and said he didn't care and there is nothing he would do to refund any money. I had stayed there several times before the location is great but beware if you need to cancel. I will never go back because of the manager unwillingness to work with us. read more

Nice location in Basalt, within a few blocks of both of the fly shops in town, and several nice places to eat. Very reasonable rates, helpful staff, great location. This place is very affordable compared to others. But as life almost always goes you get what you pay for at the end of the day. We had been working on renovating a second cabin home nearby and needed a place to stay while our wood floors where drying. At first glance it looks very new and modern. Unfortunately the air conditioning didn't work nor did the brand new tv the cable was unconnected that no one could fix and my wife had 2 very curly black hairs in her bed that looked very pubic in nature. It also said online that every room has a keurig coffee maker apparently they forgot ours. The gal up front was very pleasant though. Wouldn't do it again unless I was guaranteed all those things were fixed! read more
