The good- being so close the water, breakfast served daily, beds and pillows were pretty comfortable, AC and fans kept the rooms cool, private and away from crowds. The downside - it does NOT look like what is advertizied. The cushions on all the seats and lounge chairs are old and stained and were soaking wet so could barely use them, the pool was dirty and had to request it to be cleaned, the trash was overflowing when we arrived, the ice maker was not working, the in room massage was expensive for what we got, there is no safe passage to the beach, the outdoor furniture is not well maintained, no umbrellas, furniture old and outdated. I would not return unless they did a massive update.

Here is why: The Property: The property is unlike any other I have seen in Rincon. The rooms are clean, modern and the beds are SO comfortable. The pool/bar area is such a cool vibe and played amazing music. We had intended on setting out to explore Rincon all weekend but hanging out in the pool was way more enjoyable than anything else we did the entire time. They also have a few different sections with different seating areas - such as the hot tub deck, zen garden and cocktail lounge. It is in an ideal location - we hung out in the pool all day then walked down to the oceanfront bars for sunset. Everything we needed was a short walk away and you feel like you're in the center of everything. The Staff: From the second we arrived to the late check-out on our last day, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. The owner, Carmen, is simply incredible. She helped us snag reservations at an unbelievable dinner (Taste) which ended up being the best meal we had during our 5-week stay in Puerto Rico - she hooked it up!!! On two separate occasions, we were having trouble getting a cab to dinner so Carmen offered to drive us there and pick us up after. She mentioned they are in the process of getting a shuttle service which will be HUGE for guests. But I have never had an owner personally drive her guests - it was unbelievable service and such a personal touch getting to know her so well. She even gave us her number during our stay so we could contact her at any time if we needed anything. The Bar: The bar serves amazing cocktails and we had a great time getting to know the bar tender (Mia!) and all of the staff. They made us fresh, unique cocktails and even a few off-menu creations that we requested. It is also a hot spot for locals. The day after we had our amazing dinner at Taste, we met the chef who was having a drink at the pool bar next to us! The Food: We enjoyed our daily complimentary breakfast here so much! They have incredible omelets and so many keto-friendly and low-card treats! They also have snacks and bottled beverages available for purchase which is a great amenity to have at any hotel. The Fun: We had a great time experiencing some of the fun events that the hotel planned while we were there. Our favorite was the personal salsa lesson we had in the afternoon. The lessons were free for any guests who wanted to learn some moves from a local dance instructor. They also had ladies' night (discounted cocktails) and a few other events. It was such a great way to bring guests together and was one of the best memories of our trip. The Main Takeaway: BOOK THIS HOTEL! You will not be disappointed. We had the most incredible time and we will be coming back very soon! Thank you, Carmen! We love you!!!!!

Moldy coffee grounds in the room coffee pot, Locked out of my room because "the manager wasn't working," got walked in on by staff while I was naked in bed.. no knock, nothing, room was contaminated with fiberglass from the deteriorating fiberglass bed protector, needed to switch rooms, room I moved to had electrical problems, couldn't get out of my booking, the water went out, but they didn't notify anyone. They knew, but thought it was a nice surprise to come home to and discover for yourself...It was generally difficult to find anyone to help, whoever is manning the front desk has many other things to do... so they have to be tracked down. And even when you eventually do, they have to find another person who might be able to help. Which could take hours (and usually does.) I've literally never had a worse trip. I've stayed at many $10- $4/night hotels, and I'd trade any one of them for this one. (Except the one with bed bugs.) For the price, I thought it would be amazing. But it was only amazingly bad. Last month, I stayed at a Westin for the same exact amount, and had the polar opposite experience. Hands down, this was the worst value for money I've ever experienced.

We wanted to see the whole island, so we were booking hotels either same day or the day before depending on what city we happened to be in. Around the 4th of July we were near Ponce, so we decided to stay at Solace by the Sea. I looked at their website and read their reviews which were decent, so I booked two rooms for check in same day. When we arrived, the place looked a bit worse for wear, but knowing Hurricane Maria effected the island so heavily it did not concern me too much. During the check in process they told us that if we needed to keep anything refrigerated we could leave it with them and they pointed to a mini refrigerator behind the front desk. At that point it did not click that if I wanted a cold bottle of water in the middle of the night I would have had to leave a bottle at the front desk already and then walk 300 feet from the back of the hotel thru an open unlit walkway to get it. I was also taken aback when they handed me actual keys for our rooms not key cards. I thought it was a security concern since anyone could have made copies of these keys in the past and easily gone into our room while we were out for the day. As we walked towards our room we passed chair swings and patio furniture that were completely shredded, but still out for guest use. You could see all the yellow filling spilling out of it. We continued to our rooms feeling more hesitant. We had 1 room on the 1st floor and one on the 2nd floor. Normally it would not be a problem to walk up the stairs to the 2nd floor, when you have a bad knee and 3 young children it's a hassle to haul 3 large suitcases up the stairs. When I arrived to my 2nd floor room it smelled like a heap of damp clothes that has been sitting around for days. The bathtub looked as if someone had taken a chisel to it. The tv had a total of 13 channels with only 2 that could be watched, the rest either had no sound, a loud humming sound or were scrambled. I went to check the room the rest of our party was staying in on the 1st floor and it was just as bad. We immediately went to the front desk and they offered us a different room which was identical. The front desk told us they had no other rooms available. At this point I requested our reservations be cancelled because we would not be staying, and they told us that we would still be charged for the stay since we would have need to cancel the reservation 48 hours to check in. I explained that the reservation was made the same day through their website and that I we had just checked in and they still said they could do nothing about it. I asked to speak to a manager and when she came out she told us the same thing. She even stated that because we signed the paperwork at check in we could do nothing about it. I explained to the manger everything with the rooms, the shredded patio furniture, the safety concern and all she did was offer us the "executive suite". To humor her we went to check out the suite and it smelled the same way, the tv still did not work and there were two golf ball size holes in the walls. Again, I said we would not be staying, and she was still adamant that the reservation would not be canceled and that we would be charged for it because that was there policy. We left and ended up staying at the IHG 2 mins away.

There's no good beaches around, the best part to me was la Guancha where the locals go to eat and drink by the water. The hotel was nice inside, with a tiny pool. Kind of hard to figure out how to get to your room or find the elevator, and no one even offered to help with my luggage. They have a garage but you pay about $10 a night to park. The room was nicer than I expected. Gorgeous view of the city and mountains from my balcony, huge plus. Pretty clean. Bed was decent, not very comfortable like many hotel beds. Not very big and the bathroom was awkward to move around in with a small sink area. I was supposed to stay 2 nights and ended up having to leave a night sooner. The staff was helpful and let me leave early with only a late checkout free ($35) instead of the entire charge for the whole night. The best part was to me that breakfast was included at the very cute little coffee cafe. It was delicious. Overall it's probably the best place to stay in ponce, which is not exactly a hip or modern place so you can't expect to be wowed. But it was cool to experience puerto Rico's second largest city.

Cons; very old, I had holes in the blanket, very loud at night since it is close to a couple of bars/clubs, and you have to valet park, it is really hard to find parking around. Also it was booked since there were many weddings ongoing so we got a handicap room, so the layout of the room/bathroom was uncomfortable. I would stay here again given the price and location...

The first night I heard what I assumed was a curated "rainforest soundtrack" through speakers. It's not. Those are actual local frogs, and that small detail somehow sets the tone for the whole experience: it feels real, private, and almost unreal at the same time. The room is massive and thoughtfully designed. The outdoor shower is a standout, and the big tub makes it feel like you have your own spa built in. I didn't have a private pool since I'm on the second floor, but the view is so beautiful I stopped caring pretty quickly. What impressed me most was how effortless everything felt. Having an Embajador team plus a driver/golf cart makes the resort feel easy to navigate, and they're quick to respond when you need anything. The pool is stunning and spacious, and the overall vibe is quiet, calm, and never chaotic. The only thing I wouldn't hype is room service. It was underwhelming for the price, especially the lobster. If you're deciding where to eat, go to Positivo near the concierge instead, it was noticeably better. Even when the weather turned intense, it didn't take away from the stay. If anything, it made the resort feel even more cozy and cinematic. Add in the humidity controls in the room (so underrated), and it's one of those places you leave already planning how to come back.

Although he'd reserved a studio, when we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a one-bedroom unit, as the studio's door was being repaired. Late check in was very easy. The property's deck is large and has a gorgeous view of the beach directly below. You really cannot beat the location of Villa Tropical on Shacks. We enjoyed drinking our coffee on the deck whilst watching the sun rise in the mornings before grabbing our gear and walking down the short flight of steps to the sand. The gift shop within the office is a major time saver, too, when you need a drink or snack but don't want to drive. The Econo supermarket is only about an 8-minute drive away, though, when you do want to do a grocery run. It was awesome having a fully stocked kitchen and being able to cook and eat in most meals. We loved grilling on the deck at sunset! The Ola Lola restaurant is a cute spot a short walk away for food or drinks when one would rather skip cooking, too, and in each room, there is a very thorough guide compiled by the management with information on where to find all kinds of things in the area, from film development to entertainment. It was extremely convenient to be able to do laundry on the premises also. The staff are super helpful and maintain VT very well. Our unit (1B) was clean and comfortable, and by the end of our stay, we had fallen into a nice, homey routine. I was sad to leave and understand why Shacks is a place so many return to every year. The beach is clean, the big waves break far from the shore, there are interesting reefs for snorkeling, many days have adequate wind for kitesurfing, and there is a friendly surfer community among those who stay in the area both longer term and seasonally.
