The cushions on all the seats and lounge chairs are old and stained and were soaking wet so could barely use them, the pool was dirty and had to request it to be cleaned, the trash was overflowing when we arrived, the ice maker was not working, the in room massage was expensive for what we got, there is no safe passage to the beach, the outdoor furniture is not well maintained, no umbrellas, furniture old and outdated. I would not return unless they did a massive update.

Moldy coffee grounds in the room coffee pot, Locked out of my room because "the manager wasn't working," got walked in on by staff while I was naked in bed.. no knock, nothing, room was contaminated with fiberglass from the deteriorating fiberglass bed protector, needed to switch rooms, room I moved to had electrical problems, couldn't get out of my booking, the water went out, but they didn't notify anyone. They knew, but thought it was a nice surprise to come home to and discover for yourself...It was generally difficult to find anyone to help, whoever is manning the front desk has many other things to do... so they have to be tracked down. And even when you eventually do, they have to find another person who might be able to help. Which could take hours (and usually does.) I've literally never had a worse trip. I've stayed at many $10- $4/night hotels, and I'd trade any one of them for this one. (Except the one with bed bugs.) For the price, I thought it would be amazing. But it was only amazingly bad. Last month, I stayed at a Westin for the same exact amount, and had the polar opposite experience. Hands down, this was the worst value for money I've ever experienced.

However, the hotel was understaffed and empty during our stay. For two to three days, my guest and I had to share a single dirty bath towel. We requested room cleaning and additional towels, a few times. There were other non ideal situations and when we raised concerns, they were often minimized. The pool bar was also not very well maintained or staffed. Overall, it was ok for a last-minute booking, but for the price, I think you could get more value at nearby properties.

There's no good beaches around, the best part to me was la Guancha where the locals go to eat and drink by the water. The hotel was nice inside, with a tiny pool. Kind of hard to figure out how to get to your room or find the elevator, and no one even offered to help with my luggage. They have a garage but you pay about $10 a night to park. The room was nicer than I expected. Gorgeous view of the city and mountains from my balcony, huge plus. Pretty clean. Bed was decent, not very comfortable like many hotel beds. Not very big and the bathroom was awkward to move around in with a small sink area. I was supposed to stay 2 nights and ended up having to leave a night sooner. The staff was helpful and let me leave early with only a late checkout free ($35) instead of the entire charge for the whole night. The best part was to me that breakfast was included at the very cute little coffee cafe. It was delicious. Overall it's probably the best place to stay in ponce, which is not exactly a hip or modern place so you can't expect to be wowed. But it was cool to experience puerto Rico's second largest city.

The room is massive and thoughtfully designed. The outdoor shower is a standout, and the big tub makes it feel like you have your own spa built in. I didn't have a private pool since I'm on the second floor, but the view is so beautiful I stopped caring pretty quickly. What impressed me most was how effortless everything felt. Having an Embajador team plus a driver/golf cart makes the resort feel easy to navigate, and they're quick to respond when you need anything. Although he'd reserved a studio, when we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a one-bedroom unit, as the studio's door was being repaired. Late check in was very easy. The property's deck is large and has a gorgeous view of the beach directly below. You really cannot beat the location of Villa Tropical on Shacks. We enjoyed drinking our coffee on the deck whilst watching the sun rise in the mornings before grabbing our gear and walking down the short flight of steps to the sand. The gift shop within the office is a major time saver, too, when you need a drink or snack but don't want to drive. The Econo supermarket is only about an 8-minute drive away, though, when you do want to do a grocery run. It was awesome having a fully stocked kitchen and being able to cook and eat in most meals. We loved grilling on the deck at sunset! The Ola Lola restaurant is a cute spot a short walk away for food or drinks when one would rather skip cooking, too, and in each room, there is a very thorough guide compiled by the management with information on where to find all kinds of things in the area, from film development to entertainment. It was extremely convenient to be able to do laundry on the premises also. The staff are super helpful and maintain VT very well. Our unit (1B) was clean and comfortable, and by the end of our stay, we had fallen into a nice, homey routine. I was sad to leave and understand why Shacks is a place so many return to every year. The beach is clean, the big waves break far from the shore, there are interesting reefs for snorkeling, many days have adequate wind for kitesurfing, and there is a friendly surfer community among those who stay in the area both longer term and seasonally.

Such a serene and beautiful place to stay. Came here to spend my birthday in solitude after a…read morecrazy, intense year and this place delivered. Each of the hosts were kind and attentive. The rooms are surrounded by lush greenery and have their own balcony with hammock! During the afternoon rain showers, I peacefully relaxed on the hammock listening to the rainfall. The rain lasted only minutes and I was able to quickly go back to enjoying the saltwater pool. I booked a 60 minute massage which was fantastic and so peaceful. At night, all you can hear are the sounds from the coquis and other various wildlife. I will say, keep in mind there will be a lot of bugs, which I am NOT a fan of, but after a day or so you no longer notice. There are no AC's in the room but the nights are cool enough that you do not need it. I stayed early December so I'm not sure if summer would be different. During the day it was about 85 degrees and at night, it would drop down to about 60-65. The food served is fully vegan. I, personally, am not vegan but every dish I had was exquisite. I was lucky enough to experience multiple chefs during my stay, all of which used simple and fresh ingredients to create complex flavors in each of their dishes. I have never eaten tofu, but I had a tofu scramble that was 10x more delicious than your average egg scramble! I have nut and sesame allergies and a lot of vegan dishes contain both of these ingredients but the chefs were extremely considerate and made sure to not use these in any of their meals. I had a car service pick me up to and from the airport but I would recommend renting a car as leaving the resort isn't really ideal without one. The ride from San Juan airport was easy (1.42min), except when entering the mountain area (20 minutes from the resort). Just need to be cautious of the bends and turns on the one lane road. Would definitely rent a car next time. I wish I took advantage of the mediation and yoga offered. I don't practice yoga but it would've been nice to learn, especially in this environment with certified instructors. I took advantage of the comfortable bed in my room :)
