BOTTOM LINE: A boutique hotel with a fabulous art deco aesthetic!
Although some boutique hotels can come across as trying too hard to be cool, Hotel Motto manages to strike that balance of being very design-forward, but also quite comfortable and functional. Located in the flatiron building at the exits of Neubaugasse station, and steps away from a Spar, and various shops and cheap eats, you basically have everything at your fingertips.
Upon check-in, staff were polite and helpful, albeit perfunctorily so, and a complimentary glass of bubbly, juice, or sparking water is provided. Although the rooms don't have a direct line to the front desk, they do have a number you can call from your phone; since I had a data-only e-sim, I ended up just going downstairs to chat with them in-person.
There's a French-inspired restaurant (Chez Bernard) on their top floor (along with a rooftop patio with 360 degree view of Vienna), which I'll leave for another review, but in short, I would highly recommend it and it was nearly packed on a Thursday evening. There was also apparently a gym and spa area on the upper levels, but the doors appeared locked when I tried to check it out.
The star of the show though, of course, are the rooms. The hotel photos do a great job of showcasing their design, and it is GOR-GEOUS! Not only was there a mix of art deco and modern design elements, but the creative use of space, especially the hidden doors really showcased the level of detail and attention given (see pics). The mattresses were decent. If you're someone who's a bit of a design nerd, this place should definitely be given some consideration. read more
