The night/morning clerk was rude and unprofessional. The room had not been cleaned properly. When I told the clerk he said I accepted it because I didn't come tell him. The absolute worst hotel for rodeo families - with truck bed pets. Even when the pets stay in the bed of the truck (as he usually does ... day in and day out with water and shade weather permitting) this hotel refuses to let you stay there unless you pay $150 deposit and will refund at their discretion. (So let me be the fall guy from the previous guest) I don't fkn think so. Even though you tell them the pet lives in back of truck ...they claim people lie. How dare someone accuse a person of lying. You don't know me to make that assumption. Especially when you tell them the bed of the truck is the pets "safe place". Absolutely under NO circumstances do I recommend this hotel to families that have pets. My son's companion protects him and his truck... and we all know hotels have weak security systems. His pet that stays in the bed of truck gives our family comfort when my son is out in the road and for this hotel to accuse us of lying is down right disrespectful and for those that want to try me... he has water and is not out in the rain nor cold. The rate was excessive for a small town- and despite having AAA, AARP, and a military standing the hotel owner refused any discount. When I told her I was not happy with this she denied us a room. We had a reservation but the door wouldn't open. We tried and the manager tried. It was a busy weekend and their prices were higher than normal. We opted to stay her instead of the less expensive place because family were staying there also. They had already charged our card, but did find us a room at the less expensive motel in town. In that motel we encountered water roaches and other disgusting things. Since we had paid this hotel, I asked for a refund of at least the difference in rates and the manager said he "couldn't" give me a refund. I know that was a lie, he co but he "wouldn't". Needing a place to stay in Hallettsville overnight for personal reason. I booked a room in the highest rated hotel on Yelp in town. Breakfast is included with your room stay. I am happy that I did stay in this independent hotel. Hotel Texas in Hallettsville is a good enough small town hotel. As long as you are not expecting a Four Seasons Hotel or a Ritz Carlton sort of high end resort hotel experience then you should be comfortable during your stay. This is an independent hotel with a strong Texas theme as the name indicates. The owner/manager is hands on and takes pride in what he has been able to accomplish. Rather than joining a chain of hotels the owner prefers to remain independent since he would be required to alter most of the furniture to bring things in line with the cookie cutter mediocrity of chain hotels. I have been coming to this Hotel for years. I come here to have my helicopter serviced. The Hitel used to be great now it is going down hill. The girl who runs it now is very rude. the was a smell of Marijuana in the hotel I told her I was not happy. She was mad because I said something to her about the marijuana in front of another customer. However it's not like the other customer didn't smell it too. She called me rude for bringing it up. I left and went to another hotel. I'm not going back I hope the owner reads this he and I have spoken many times and I hope he finds a new person to run his hotel. read more

For a small town this hotel met our needs. It was clean, had free wifi, large rooms, friendly staff, and even a pool which we didn't get to try. They also had a rather large breakfast area for their complimentary breakfast in the morning. They even had nice bath and body works toiletries in the bathroom. The décor will not leave you guessing where you are at, it clearly lives up to it's name -Texas. The elevator even has a floor that resembles wood. The walls were a bit thin and the beds slightly hard. The coffee makers in the rooms were more for show as they didn't heat the water beyond luke warm. The showers were at least hot. For some reason they didn't let you control the temperature of the thermostat in the room, so the AC was blowing cool air at us on and off throughout the night, even though it was 44-35 outside. They were nice and as we were running the Shiner Half Marathon they let us do a late check out for no additional cost, instead of 11:00am check out, they let us check out by 3pm, so we could take showers after the run. read more

EXAMPLE OF ATTENTIVENESS: in the bathroom of the room that we rented for 3-days.... well, before I tell you what happened I must say .... day one, everything extremely clean we walked in and felt like this is a good place to rest our head now back to the story..... OK so in the bathroom day one everything fine, day two there was this hideous cigarette smell, (yucky ducky because we ) at first we thought OK we'll just let it dissipate. However, the smell did not go away.....so we made a decision to call the front desk and without hesitation they were there taking care of the problem .........and they let us know they had a situation upstairs and it was handled and they apologized and they did not make you feel like it was nothing they could do. ( Good customers service) The time that I called and the time they arrived less that 5mins. (can you say yay!) CLEANLINESS: the hotel was outstandingly clean!!! BREAKFAST: it's free and on point and good tasting, (my hats off to the ‍ cook) I USE A HANDICAP SCOOTER My room is a handicap room ... again it was clean. IF I COULD CHANGE ANYTHING : room size for handicap not enough space. I had to be extremely careful coming in and going out of the room. I honestly wish i could give this 0/5 stars. The absolute worst experience i've ever had at a hotel. The lady at the desk constantly harrassed myself and other guests over the the two days that we were there, verbally assaulted us, constantly did laps around the building while we were outside(definitely creeping on us), told us she was watching us on the building cameras and to top it all off, the place was overrun with feral cats(which i saw her feeding by the side entrance and she allowed vagrants to stay on the property who also harrassed us during our stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, i can't stress this enough, stay far away from this place. read more

i stayed at this hotel last night. A skunk on the property sprayed my dog, a cat and a car while I was out walking my dog. we tried to get rid of the smell and finally got the smell off my dog. the scent still lingered in the room. A lady from the hotel called me and said "6 room are affected by the smell, including rooms on the second floor. The dog should've been left in the car or kenneled outside." and a $250 cleanup fee will be charged. 1st. that's a lie. the smell was only able to smell outside the room. second. if the smell went upstairs then the code enforcement officer or even the fire Marshall should be contacted as that is a fire hazard because if a smell can go through so can fire. 3rd. she wanted me to commit a crime by leaving my dog in my vehicle. tsk tsk tsk. 4th. leaving a dog kenneled outside in this heat without proper ventilation or nutrition could cause more harm. This dog (her name is Mia) has survived a house fire. she cannot be left in heat too long because her lungs don't properly work correctly. Another thing this dog has saved me more than any human could possibly imagine. if this is how all animals are looked at by management I feel for when the wounded warrior project goes and one of their dogs get sprayed by a wild animal. I understand the animal is wild. I cannot prevent what that animal does. BUT I can make sure I try to clean it up as best I can. Also I have the recording of her saying what's in quotes so if they try to say she didn't say it I'll make a TikTok and broadcast the recording which I am legally able to do so. read more

I don't think I have ever had a better experience at a hotel. I wish I had gotten the name of the lady that took care of us our entire stay. She was so helpful and had such a good soul. The rooms were very comfortable. The ac had a "constant fan" option which is the best. The soaps, lotions and conditioner was wonderful and I love that they're in dispensers. Terrible service terrible hotel I would rather stay in schulenburg the walls are so thin I could hear everything the people next to us were saying. The beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable. To top it off the manager came and said we were leaving too much? What? I guess we're not allowed to go get food or go anywhere. I've never been treated so badly by any place. She actually said she watched us on the camera and counted how many times we went outside! Wow! Crazy!! Stalk much? Front desk manager deceptively nice during check in and was extremely rude when departing. Would not print a receipt for our group. We travel for work and require a receipt before checking out. I notified Hotel Engine, our business go to site for making reservations, and the hotel texas manager told her "why are you bothering me" when requesting a copy of the receipt. Also, one of our rooms had roaches. Had to get a can of RAID and fumigate the room. Red flag should gone up when she was bitchy when I asked for some napkins while at the front desk. I always try to shop local and was happy we found this little gem on the way home. It's a cute hotel with lots of Texas decorations. Very nice staff, king room was a good size and had a microwave & mini-fridge. A good sized outdoor pool & hot tub is onsite too - the kids loved it! Good breakfast offered in the morning too - eggs, bacon, sausage links, biscuits & gravy, make your own Texas shaped waffle, bagels, toast, a variety of cereals and juices too. Plenty to choose from. I stayed just this last Saturday night on 5/26/2018 and although the initial contact was pleasant, the bed in the suite, along with the couch bed was horrible. The bed was harder than a bed of rocks I believe. The couch bed, where my 18 year old son slept, was no better. I wondered how did I pay for a "suite" when the beds were not fit for anyone to sleep on. The next issue was the jacuzzi tub. There is an on/off switch on the top of the tub itself. When I tried to use it, it did not work. I was so disappointed with that last blow. THEN we find out there is a switch in the closet that has to be flipped. I felt I should have been advised of that upon check-in. It gets better ... last night on 5/31, I get a fraud alert call from my credit card that I used to reserve the room. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. Upon checkout, which we actually went to front desk and handed in the keys, my card was charged. After that, someone tried to run twice a second room charge. We called and spoke with the general manager and his explanations made no sense to us. I am very disappointed in the hotel and the way the general manager handled all these issues in the end. In response to your comments, you never addressed the true issue and continue with excuses. Adding insult is referencing me "yelling at my husband". What you heard, sir, was frustration with your responses to you. Lastly, I hope you learn better management skills and training with your employees. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Hotel Texas! Check-in later in the evening included a very pleasant hostess and cookies. Our room was clean and well furnished. The swimming pool had some pretty fancy lights. The best part: The free breakfast is the best one I have ever had! They had eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, waffles, fruit, and more. We stayed at the Texas Hotel in Hallettsville Texas in December 2018. All the rooms were booked and we requested an early check in, around 2:00 pm - no problem they said, as we had a 3:00pm engagement. The parking & lobby looked inviting, so we were pleased. When we got to our room, it was dated, but overall still doing well. It's not until the evening when we got settled we noticed some items that are far beyond anything I have noticed at hotels - it wasn't clean. There was a ring stain on the side table by the beds, ok that can be overlooked. But the worst part was the bathroom - the toilet wasn't clean at all and it made the entire bathroom smell like pee. The shower wasn't clean - there was soap or some type of residue on the shower walls and the shower curtain. The bathmat for the shower needed to be replaced as it was coming apart. We were completely grossed out. The towels either had stains or had hair on them; we didn't use the ones with hair. We asked for more toilet paper and more bath towels at the front desk. The breakfast was very good, loved the assortment of items. Overall there aren't many choices to stay in Hallettsville, the price was right, but the shower not being clean grossed us out. Next time we will drive to close city to stay. read more

I was wary about staying in this hotel due to previous reviews, but it was apparent when we arrived that they were under new management, had renovated, and were legitimately concerned that we had a pleasant stay. The rooms were clean and spacious and decorated nicely. The only thing we noted that could be improved was having better coffee, and the room was cold when we arrived. read more

I really wanted to like this hotel. The curb appeal is very nice as is the lobby, pool area and guest rooms. We stayed in a king room that was furnished very nicely in a Texas theme and was very clean and new. I would give them 5 stars for all of this but now the not so great things. The worst problem was the bed. We like a firm bed but this one was terrible. It was so hard that it actually hurt to lay in it. I finally got up and sat in a chair with a pillow trying to sleep. We both tossed and turned all night and got no sleep at all. When 6:00 rolled around we went down for the free breakfast. They advertise hot breakfast including, eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, kolaches, fruit, Danish, etc. They had no kolaches, no waffles, or fresh fruit. They did have scrambled eggs which were good, sausage, bacon and ham that looked like Canadian bacon. The biscuits were hard and cold. There was one cinnamon roll on a plate that looked like someone had taken part of it and left the rest of it. There was a bowl of what looked like canned fruit cocktail. They did have plenty of yogurt and cereal. Halfway through breakfast, an employee came out with a skillet of potato chunks (hash browns??). The breakfast was very disappointing from what was advertised. When we checked out my husband told the lady at the front desk about the bed and she said "that is strange, usually our beds are comfortable"' but no apology or anything. This is not a cheap hotel at approximately $120 a night when others in Hallettsville are around $80 per night. Next time we are there will try the Best Western. It can't be any worse and maybe we will be able to at least sleep. Oh and there were no cookies at check in either! read more
