Hotel Tivoli is owned and operated by artists Helen and Brice Marden ( Brice passed a year ago). Both artists, I believe, belong to the minimalist and conceptual era of the 1970s, 1980s... etc. I imagine both Helen and Brice spent a great deal of their time drinking and talking at Max's Kansas City or perhaps the Cedar Tavern, eventually Area, the Canal Bar, and The Bowery Bar in New York City. The design is a tribute to the mid 20th century. Art objects usually found and bought at vintage flea markets such as Brimfield can be found throughout the hotel. I like mid 20th century design very much but I do not find in very comforting. The hotel is a bit like a museum. Look but perhaps do not touch. For sure do not sit! Either way it is a very enjoyable place to spend some time. It is an old building but it is well maintained. The staff is extremely helpful and kind. The restaurant which sweeps thru the entire ground floor and outside porch is very good. The food and wine is excellent. The coffee hut towards the back of the property is a great idea. The town of Tivoli is on the outskirts of Bard college so there are a lot of student types walking around town. Not the frat boy type of kids... but more like the counter culture hippie kind of kids I was a part of in the 1960s. read more

The most magical place. The complementary breakfast is decadent and having dinner at the corner restaurant is an absolute delight. The staff is very thoughtful and they even included at handwritten welcome card in our room when we checked in. If you're planning to stay in the hudson valley this is well worth a visit if only for a chance to dine at the corner. read more

It always surprises me when a lovely place like the Hotel Tivoli chooses to hire a front desk manager who's rude and condescending. Why would someone work in the hospitality industry when they're not the slightest bit hospitable? Hotels all over Manhattan, Paris, many other places, have outdoor propane heaters these days. This was common in Paris even before Covid, and now they're found at restaurants worldwide. We had a reservation to meet friends for dinner tonight at the Hotel Tivoli. Our friends booked a room for the weekend, and just as we did last year, we looked forward to a reunion over dinner on the delightful terrace at the hotel. I have bladder cancer, and as an immunocompromised person I can only eat at restaurants with outdoor seating. I know the Hotel Tivoli has a number of state of the art propane terrace heaters - 8 I believe. They're out on the terrace right now. So three days before our dinner reservation I called and spoke with Linda at the front desk to make sure a heater would be available on Friday night. Her response was so rude, unfriendly, bordering on sarcastic, that I could hardly believe what I was hearing. First she told me there were no heaters. I know this is not true because I live nearby, and see the heaters on the terrace when I drive by. Then she told me, several times, there "is no call for them." But here I was, calling for them, specifically, days in advance. She then told me there was no propane. Once again, I live in the area and know that propane is readily available everywhere. I asked if someone could pick up some propane over the next few days. Then, in the most haughty tone possible she told me, twice, "I can't promise you anything." I said I can't expect a promise, but perhaps I could politely ask for an effort to be made? There was silence- then she said, we'll make an effort. Then she hung up. Twenty four hours later I called to see if any progress had been made on a heater. As though this was a funny question she said in a bemused snotty tone "No, nothing has happened. We get no calls for that." I replied- "until now, I guess. I'm asking for it now." I said I would need to know by Friday if anything was going to happen - would a heater be set up for us? - so I would know whether my wife and I could meet our friends for dinner. She said she wouldn't know until 4 pm Friday, and I could call her back then. I was hopeful that somebody would make the small effort to get just one of their many heaters going, and I said goodbye. Well I called back just now and learned that a) it's Linda's day off, and b) no one had done anything about setting up even one of the Tivoli Hotel's numerous terrace heaters so we could dine with our friends. It'll be 53 degrees at 8 pm tonight, a little too chilly to eat outside with a heater. Which the hotel owns a number of. So what is the problem? Why was zero effort made to accomodate a reasonable request from someone who was hoping to spend a good amount of money on drinks, food and wine at the Hotel Tivoli?If I wanted to be treated with haughty condescension I could find any number of Manhattan restaurants who would indulge me. But in a beautiful, friendly, country town like Tivoli, such a lack of hospitality is just plain sad, and disappointing. read more

2 Bedroom Suite We heard really good things about the Hotel Tivoli, which is really a bed & breakfast. Our experience is probably different than most others. We needed 2 rooms and that wasn't available. But they did have a 2 bedroom suite in the adjacent building. At least we didn't have to worry about any late noise from a downstairs bar/restaurant. But the suite only had one wall AC unit which made it very difficult to cool all the rooms. Bedrooms doors had to be left open to get the cool air. A benefit of the suite is that it has a very nice sitting room. Unfortunately, the furniture (as seems to be in all the rooms) was more about art than function. The couch was really uncomfortable. On the plus side, the breakfast each morning was really good. I enjoyed the hotel for the weekend, but I would probably stay some place else on a future visit. read more

Maybe you can't regulate your room temperature, maybe you will hear the boorish hedge fund guy in the next room honking on his cell phone, but this small, luxurious-but-not-pretentious boutique hotel, created by artists, is a treasure, if you are poking around the Hudson Valley and environs for art and antiques. Hotel Tivoli is a charming establishment as far as the appearance goes. I can't speak for the food because I haven't eaten there and never will. Today I went in to look around since I'm looking for 3 rooms for a family event this summer. Since I walked in wearing a camo vest, the owner (or maybe manager) took on a very mean, rude, condescending attitude and was very blatant about it. And when I left she came out of the closet and brought up her outrage over deer hunting. Of course the hotel restaurant has meat on the menu which is no doubt of the corporate caged animal variety while deer live their lives free. Anyway.....if you are a non tolerant liberal minded elitist and faux flower child this is your place. Its not mine. read more

This hotel is a gem! We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. Everyone we met was warm and welcoming. The furnishings are simple yet charming, with wonderful artwork and comfortable bedding. We really loved our stay here! the hotel is so funky, but clean and crisp and imaginative too! The room was incredibly comfortable and the linens were crisp and the staff was top notch. Tara really went out of her way to accommodate us and the rest of the staff was also friendly and eager to help. This is THE place to stay in Tivoli, a very small but cute town (make sure to go to the Bakery just up the street!). We ate at The Corner out on the patio and it was just a perfect setting. All the other guests were quite nice too and they allow dogs! Book this place with no hesitation! read more

Beautifully curated small hotel. Modern design and art in a country setting BUT LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. Loud restaurant and bar well into the night. And a poorly attended tea dance with DJ rattling the timbers on a Sunday afternoon. Not the place to book if getting some rest or sleep -- even at night -- is on your agenda. Best meal I've had in some time, and i go to a lot of restaurants! The Moroccan seasoning on pasta was a delightful surprise, as were the green beans with mint. Terrific wine list and excellent sommelier who taught me a lot about obscure little french wineries. My friend and i shared the whole branzino and it was superbly cooked and delicious through and through. We stayed overnight in this delightful old hotel whose new owners have kept all the great things in an old hotel, like transom windows over the tall doors and the very tall windows, meanwhile decorating in a style i call Beetlejuice colors and shapes: terrific furnishings and artwork with no loss of comfort- on the contrary, we sat in the funny looking chairs and were quite happy to stay. Beds were wonderfully soft and sheets delicious. Cant say enough good about the hotel and the restaurant. Go to there if youre visiting Bard (we were) or the beautiful Columbia/ Duchess counties. read more

Not only does Hotel Trivoli use artificial magic, but their wait staff can not perform under pressure. The atmosphere? Cold. The inner sphere? Colder. Their cookie dough gave me horrible salmonella. Such an amazing place! So many things to recommend: service, staff, decor. Each of the beautiful rooms have perfect bathrooms and beautiful linen. The food for breakfast is beyond description. I so rarely give a four star review but this is the one time it is essential to do so. For both art and lovers this is a must go to destination. read more

We had a large group at this restaurant for a birthday celebration last night. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable. Our waitress (Lark?) could not have been more knowledgable and delightful. The restaurant itself is so chic and cool. I would highly recommend this to anyone. It's a real gem. read more

It's June 18 2022. The town of Tivoli had a great 150 year anniversary party for the whole weekend. My wife and I had dinner at hotel Tivoli and proceeded to dance in the street during the block party. What fun: unfortunately it was ruined by hotel Tivoli. After spending $200 on dinner which was mediocre at best my wife went to bed early and I came down to a full bar for a nightcap. Let me re iterate that the bar was full of patrons and it was only 10 pm. People were still dancing in the street directly outside of the bar. I asked for a cocktail and they denied me a drink because they apparently gave last call. People were still drinking full cocktails at the bar. Not only was it embarrassing to be told you can't have a drink at a full bar of people in the hotel you just threw down $200 for dinner, it was disappointing after a really good night of community coming together to celebrate a milestone. I'm sorry I spent my money there and never will again. Hotel Tivoli, you are not doing me a favor by providing your services. You obviously don't know or know how to be- educated your staff on what the meaning of hospitality is. It's Saturday night, 10 pm. 100 people celebrating in the street outside of your restaurant. You have a full bar of people drinking but you've given last call. You're not helping this industry, you're hurting it. Disappointing. read more

Such a beautiful little hotel! We just got back from a weekend stay at Hotel Tivoli and have nothing, but great things to say about it. The rooms are beautifully decorated and cozy and the complimentary breakfast each morning is delicious. Seriously, how are the beds so comfortable? Each room is stocked with delicious smelling soaps and lotion from Le Labo. Yeah, we definitely took home the leftovers. Perhaps the best part is all of the original art hung throughout the hotel and in each room. Shoutout to Tara for being so warm, friendly and knowledgable. read more

The Only Game in Town.... Really looked for alternatives close to Bard College for reasonable $. This is not "leaf peeping" season, or graduation time. But, with no respectable alternatives, booked here. Was told they has a 2 night minimum. They really make a virtue out of spartan decor using re-furbished/recycled school desks, and random light fixtures and furnishings. Oh, and no thermostats or phones in your room. The walls are PAPER THIN. First night, after driving over 300 miles to this destination, I craved sleep. Too bad the young women (?) in the adjacent room had other plans. I could hear, WORD FOR WORD, an entire cell phone conversation which was on "speaker". Don't let the "hotel" in their name fool you. It's more B&B than hotel. There really is noone on hand, or even a "front desk" to assist . At 11:00 pm, I knocked on their door. I explained that the walls were thin, and for $350/night, (after taxes, and 5% room gratuity), I hoped to sleep. They did quiet down, but I felt weird asking. So, next morning, assuming these guests would also be staying 2 nights, I asked for a room change, and explained why. Lucky me! It was only an extra $20! :(. ** this charge was removed at checkout, to their credit.** Unfortunately, in my new room, guests on floor above seemed to be having a cocktail party, complete with (live?) music? White noise of a Table fan saved my sleep... Because Tivoli has VERY limited dining options, I did eat at their lauded restaurant. Meh. Nothing special, but their menu descriptions were over the top pretentious. Honestly, "green tea powder" on a dessert item? Portions were smallish, and my teenage son was left hungry. As I write this, in my new room across the hall from last nights room, I can hear lots of foot traffic above me, on the third floot. Luckily, I found a fan in my closet, and am counting on "white noise" drowning out most of it. This stay cost a ridiculous amount of $$, and I would say it was NOT worth it. read more

An extraordinary new addition to the Upper Hudson Valley dining scene. Food is some of the best I've had anywhere. We had a perfectly cooked, intensely flavorful ribeye steak for two from a local farm, with delicious sides and a good selection of wines by the glass. The corner is a really decent meal. Brunch is great because they have an affordable egg plate that is really good. However, the best part of the corner is the service. The waiters are primarily students but are so professional and respectful. Our waiter Evelyn did a great job of explaining the menu items to us and helping us pick a satisfying meal. She was smart and funny and made the entire dining experience a pleasure. Will definitely dine here again. read more
