It's obviously close to if not heritage listed perhaps, built 100+ years ago, with those amazing high ceilings, vintage chandeliers, skirting, period furnishings and decor. Makes me wonder what was here before it was a restaurant. I felt so comfortable. My partner and I sat in a large booth with cushioning, so we had room to spare at our table. I ordered a $22.90 Chicken Parmigiana, usually my first choice in new places. The menu seemed quite vast. Along with traditional Italian style dishes, like pizza, pasta, meat and chicken dishes- there also looked to be a few Asian influences with things like garlic prawns, satay chicken, spring rolls. Along with these choices there was also a steak menu, seafood menu, vegetarian options, and of course desserts. Something for everybody by the looks. When my meal came I was a little wide eyed at the fact it was one of the smallest schnitzels I've received. I dined somewhere else a few days ago and received a fairly small schnitzel, but this breaks the record. Literally I think it would've been around 10cm by 7cm sitting on a large dinner plate. My chips and salad were served on small bowls to the side. Luckily for them if it wasn't for the fact I wasn't that hungry tonight I probably would have shunned them. One positive I must note is that the chips we received were lovely thick cut chips which I thoroughly enjoyed devouring. They were almost a meal in themselves. I should have taken some photos of my food, but unfortunately I didn't as I didn't have my phone on me this time! Overall I did like this place for what it is. I certainly would come back for that reason, but obviously try something different on the menu. Recommended ... If you appreciate a small overpriced schnitzel.

Stepping in, we asked the server if they were closed -- and alas -- she told us that they had just closed for the night. Well, we were disappointed. As we were walking away, the manager ran out the door and said "please come in! We'll stay open for you!!" It was music to our ears! I ordered a glass of local white wine and my husband had a locally brewed beer. The prices for alcohol are determined by taxes, so they don't control them. Also keep in mind that they pay their servers a livable wage, so the costs of restaurant food reflects that. This was definitely a "higher end" establishment though with mains starting at around $20. The restaurant is nicely appointed and modern, very clean. There's a gift shop next door that looked nice, although closed after 8 pm. They're situated right on the bay and it would be an incredible view during daylight. We first ordered the abalone for the appetizer (entree). I ordered the seafood plate and my husband ordered the scotch filet. The seafood was incredibly fresh -- and I got to try a yabbie!! Lots of large prawns, scallops, calamari. The fish and chips were fresh and juicy. The filet was cooked to perfection. We had another glass of wine and chatted with the waitress for a while. But the main was delicious. A good size for me but someone else might need sides or a dinner partner who will share their leftovers (probably one of the contributing reasons to why my partner stays around and takes me out to dinner). Unfortunately only thing letting this place down was the chewy gnocchi.

Yep, that place was Brocky's, and to say that they served a pretty decent breakfast is an understatement. I even broke from my routine of simply having bacon and eggs and dived in for a pancake and I must say I was pleasantly rewarded. Those pancakes were magnificent. My friend ended up having the poached eggs, but I really couldn't get any more than 'yep, there good' out of him (though if they weren't I would have been sure to hear about it). Oh, and they also gave us a massive pot of tea with a side of water, with made the fact that they had simply dumped the tea leaves into the pot not as annoying as it normally is. The ladies running the show were friendly, took our order, and promptly brought out some tasty coffees and a great brekkie. I had a big bowl of baked beans with smoked ham and a slice of toast (one of my favourites); they had a few types of beans in there, mixing things up. My wife had mushrooms on toast - in fact, one giant, grilled mushroom cap, which she reported as being quite good. If you find yourself on the west end of the Great Ocean Road you could do a lot worse for breakfast.
