CrossFit Casco Bay was a host for our seminar and would be my choice of gyms if I lived in the Portland, Maine area. The gym facility is well equipped with just about any type of training aid you could ever hope for.  The gym is clean, organized, and is very spacious for a functional fitness style facility.  There's showers and plenty of parking out front.  The space used to be a garage and so it has these amazing garage doors that let in a ton of natural light and open up to allow fresh air flow. These people just get it!  They're caring and easily connect with their clients.  They also are highly educated in fitness training and continue to pursue more knowledge to enable them to pass that onto their members.  This is the gym I use when traveling to the area and if I lived anywhere near Portland, I would definitely be a member!  Go check them out!

Add to that the fact that I have a genuine spinal condition as well as a need for routine pain medications and you would think something like crossfit is out of my league. However all of the instruction and all of the coaches have been amazingly clear, concise, helpful... and every coach there has been encouraging and friendly! I'm starting out more than 300 pounds. And they are doing everything they can to show me how to make it easier until I'm ready to do it the more challenging way. Many of the members I met were talking about activities they do together outside of the gym! It is LGBTQ IA community friendly and many members, including myself were happily discussing our families and same gendered spouses. I am really looking forward to the changes this exercise and community environment can bring to my every day life.

It's an inclusive atmosphere and regardless of your fitness level you will be given the support you need to succeed. I'm grateful I got here. Thank you . I should also give a shout out to the front desk. Erica is so lovely and when my deltoid was giving me trouble she ran out to her car and lent me a massager to work on my arm before class. Jeremiah, such a good young man and then there is the Malakai, a nice new addition. I signed up not quite 2 years ago and I am healthier, actually have some shape in my arms & abs. But, in less than a couple months, I had gone from the once a week membership to unlimited. So, when they announced that they were opening a second location - closer to my home and my office, I was so excited! I've been impatiently awaiting this location opening for months now. I'm happy to report that it's just as good as the other Maine location. It helps that Erica and Karleigh from the Portland studio (two of my faves) are now running this one - making the transition easy. The studio itself has several enhancements from the original - more lobby space, an extra shower, and the beauty bar. And, of course, the equipment is all shiny and new. But, let's face it - it's the workout that keeps me coming back! Sixty minutes of cardio and weight training, burning about 500 calories each time. The fact that no two workouts are ever the same keeps me from getting bored. I sing Orangetheory's praises every chance I get! If your are looking for something to mix up your workout, give this a try! You won't regret it!

I submitted an inquiry about learning more about Beacon and heard back within the same day and was able to meet the owner and get an assessment scheduled quickly. After the assessment, I jumped right into classes and loved it. Well out-fitted, a great community of friendly and motivating members, and awesome coaches -- Beacon has it all! I think what I appreciated the most about Beacon is the team's attitude towards fitness; fitness can enrich your life and make living your life easier and better. After doing CrossFit for years at a previous box, I was so used to a culture of just wanting to throw around as much weight as possible with no regard to form and listening to my body. At Beacon, I felt supported to really focus on how to properly move my body, how to best challenge my body, and really how to have fun with CrossFit again. Thanks for such a great five weeks, Beacon, I hope I'll be able to come back again soon!

I'm currently enrolled in small…read moregroup training and we are working on deadlifts, back squats, pull ups and ring rows, as well as classic CrossFit cardio-based moves (rowing, assault bike, running, etc.). My coach/trainer, Seth, is amazingly helpful and patient in teaching me how to do handstands against the wall (and eventually without the wall). He has a very supportive, encouraging, easy-going personality that really motivates me to do my best. He routinely asks me what moves I want to work on, and we have already covered rope climbs and handstand preps, to name a few. I really enjoy the small group vibe as it gives us a chance to get to know each other better, and we have more time with our coach than we would in a regular CrossFit class. Seth has helped me get to the point where I feel like I can just jump into a regular CrossFit class whenever I want. I'm already almost up to a PR in deadlifts and it has only been a few months (and I took over a year off). It is a bit pricey (I'm paying $240 for 8 classes a month), but I still think it is worth it. You really are getting a lot of time with the coach, even in the small group setting. Highly recommended.

So, when I'm sitting on my friends couch and contemplating if I should exercise, then kinda seriously injuring my back while not moving and still sitting on the couch...I feel like that's a sign...that I should go to the chiropractor and also start working out before my appendages start randomly falling off due to disuse. I had been to Align Studios for a yoga class just a week or so prior. The instructors (one of whom was also the chiropractor I saw) were quite knowledgeable and the class was amazing. I also kind of wanted to die in the middle of it, but in the best way, because the class was challenging and strenuous and I was covered in sweat. I really appreciated the adjustments and direction that the instructors made and I felt like I received great workout but also ended with a nice yoga vibe (I don't think this is a real thing, but I'm making it one). The studio itself is a beautiful and relaxing space with plenty spaces for bags, changing rooms, lots of sunlight, and they also sell a small selection of yoga supplies and essential oils (and maybe other stuff? There were cookies, so I was distracted). EVERYONE was incredibly friendly and very welcoming. There was also a concurrently running Lululemon trunk show and I purchased an amazing travel blanket scarf with ARMHOLES! But I digress... When deciding where to go for my first chiropractic experience, I decided to go back to Align Studios/Health. I called on a Sunday (What chiropractor is even open on a sunday!?!? bonus points!!!) and made an appointment for the next day. The person at the desk was super nice and very knowledgeable. After a very quick wait, Dr. Paul escorted me into his office/examination room. He understood that this was my first visit to a chiropractor ever and was both clear and thorough in his explanation. While I don't think that anyone enjoys getting an injury treated, this was certainly a relatively quick and painless visit. This is where the review is going to get very unintelligent, because I don't remember things ever. Dr. Paul used some type of pulsating machine combined with heat to make my back swell less, then he did some weird push-y thing on my back, then he cracked my back/neck. All I know is I felt significantly less pain then when I came in. I made a follow up appointment (I think this will take maybe four visits, per Dr. Paul) and promptly received an email confirmation. Obviously I'll be back as I'm the kind of person that breaks herself while sitting still on a couch, but I feel better about the healing process thanks to my experience at Align Studios/Health. I can definitely see myself signing up for more yoga classes and I definitely rank this class among the top three yoga classes I've attended. tl;dr Go here for yoga or chiropractic services, because this place is awesome and everyone is super nice and also knows their stuff!!!!
