Stopped by on the way back from a local hike. Tried the cotton candy flavor with nerds and it was refreshing! Flavor choices were so broad it was hard to choose pick. And then curiosity got the best of me and had to try the dill pickle flavor. It was actually pretty good, I would have preferred it less sweet tho. One star off because it was a bit pricey.

Got Houeys 8-8-25 on a respectable nice day not too deathly hot but tolerable outside. My LOOOVE has lost his parents and not feeling well days apart so he needed some Air!. He got black cherry and pineapple with marshmallow topping!. The day was still light not much foot traffic but service wasn't slow at all . I got cherry with pineapple it's like houeys NEVER misses on flavors or combinations you taste EVERY bit of sweetness and ice it's wonderful !!. I recommend them hella times over worth it indeed!!!.. the 3 flavors LOOOVE got wasn't bad as I thought because marshmallows go with s'mores or sweet potatoes not shaved ice! (IMO) .. all in all he felt a bit better in his spirits and got the ice he wanted.

I'm probably the pickiest person when it comes to dessert! I loveee ice cream but am really iffy when it comes to shaved ice. This was my first time here and I was expecting that thick crushed ice. Looking at the flavors, I thought they wouldn't be able to pull it off but I was mistaking BIG time. I love sweet flavors. I got the red velvet and birthday cake. I can't even describe how savory it was. And that even isn't the right word but it escapes me because it was just that good! They also have picnic tables outside so you can order and eat there with the family.

I stopped by on a hot summer day for something cold and sweet. I was not disappointed. There are a plethora of flavors to choose from. I selected kiwi mango. The service was friendly and efficient. The walk up window is just that. Luckily there were no lines. I'll definitely be back.

Tucked away in a little parking lot is Houey's. I had mango and green apple -medium size which is $4- nice fluffy ice -good syrup flavor not to tart not too sweet --minds me of something fun I would've had as a child --just a nice little unfussy treat for a warm summers day

I am ashamed to admit that this is my first time coming this neighborhood gem when it's a mere 3 miles from my home and it opened last summer. One reason is that it's not always open, second is that in passing you have to look hard to see the "OPEN" light from the road unless a line is formed outside. Driving pass as usual but this time with my 12 & 10 year old niece and nephew both begging me to stop for treat...... I am SO glad we did!! I literally did a U-turn when I saw that Light! Surprisingly there was no line but I guess that's all it takes is to see a few people standing and they will come! By the time we ordered 3 more cars pulled up with 8 people! We ordered 3 Monster size which is a monstrous portion for only $5. It has to be at least 18ounces of lusciousness. We ordered 1 Egg custard with marshmallow, 1 Rainbow which includes 3 flavors of your choice nephew picked pineapple, grape, & dreamsicle, and I went with mango & candy apple. As the great Auntie that I am and the only one with money it was mandatory that I sample the other 2, just to make sure they were edible!lol Man or man, I can't decide which flavor I loved more! Each spoonful was a taste of sweet fluffy, light fresh snow... The good snow, not the dirty snow we ate off the ground as kids.lol I'll be sure to slow down while driving to see if the OPEN light is on real soon.

Being from Baltimore I was very excited to learn of this black owned stand right near my new home in Upper Marlboro. Baltimore loves their snowball stands and I quickly learned that everywhere doesn't have them lol. Egg Custard with marshmallow is the ONLY way I can eat a snowball so I order a shaved ice the same exact way It was good, the shaved ice isn't the style of ice we use in Baltimore but it's a solid stand in for now. I'll definitely go back. My daughter on the other hand wasn't thrilled about her shaved ice - she said the strawberry and black cherry flavors didn't have much flavor at all.

A friend of mine just recently put me on to this gem and ive made it my business to stop pass whenever I get the chance! Most people dont get excited about shaved ice but im a sucker for a sweet treat so Houeys definitely has my stamp of approval. In comparison to its competitor Rita's the portion size and price point gets a 5/5. As far as options for creativity as far as what u can order, Rita takes the win for that. But if it aint broke dont fix it and sometimes less is more and a simple flavored ice will do!(they do have simple add ons like nerds and gummies) And flavor is what youll get each flavor taste exactly like what it is and for them to be making them the old fashion way your not getting a cup of ice with a spritz of syrup flavor. And the ice is smooth, melts nicely! Customer service is fair seeing as though its not much to the order process and line moves at a decent rate during hot busy days. Only downside for me would be the location while convenient for me. Can be hard to find if not familiar with the area and seeing as though most be people pull up and stick around after ordering it would be nice if the set up was more recreational for the kids!

First time snoballers here and we are HOOKED. We had an egg custard topped with condensed milk and a tigers blood with marshmallow. Absolutely delicious, smooth consistency, flavor throughout, big portions, great prices. There are tons of flavors and plenty of toppings to choose from so we are excited to try new ones when we come back! What an awesome spot!!!! read more

Absolutely awesome. Great flavors, great service, great value for your dollar. The only issue I see with this place is the fact that they only have one window for ordering and one pick up window - I can easily see a backup with people requesting samples and whatnot, but that's just a testament to how great the flavors are. You wont be able to decide because they're all so good. My daughter loved the Birthday cake, and I'm totally blown away by the Red Velvet Cake. It actually tastes like it has cream cheese icing! Definitely stop by. We will definitely be back. read more

Plain and simple, if in the Upper Marlboro area, you need to stop by. These snowballs remind me of many summers in Mississippi with my grands. They got the best flavors. Quick service. Super soft ice. Great combos/creations. It's obvious that these ppl have some southern roots because these snowballs are perfect!! OMG.....I been seeing this place advertisements and decided to bring my son, granddaughters and nephews and AGAIN OMG....THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB!!! I have NEVER tasted shaved ice like this. The owners are the BOMB they are friendly and the lil young lady at the window gave me a good chose that "Mardi Gras King Cake" is to die for. I have gone there twice now. The snowballs have good flavor, but aren't they supposed to be shaped like a snowball? So far, the ice is melting by the time I get it in my hand. Is that the difference between NC shaved ice and Baltimore shaved ice? I still enjoyed it. The lines are long sometimes and it's hot standing outside. I feel like they will need help if the lines remain long, to make it flow better. It's a new business, so I want to support it. read more

There are so many flavors to choose from and they all taste amazing. It's mind blowing how shaved ice can actually taste like red velvet cake, birthday cake, and even strawberry cheesecake. The shaved ice here is soft and luscious, not the crunchy little chopped chunks I'm used to in a typical Maryland snowball. Turns out that's better! It grabs the flavor syrup and holds on, so there's no melded ice chunk floating in syrup when you get to the bottom, just well-flavored ice all the way down. The egg custard syrup is delicious and generously applied. Might have been the best snowball I've ever had! Next time, I'm adding marshmallow (my dad ordered, and he forgot!). Houey's has exceeded my expectations. I have heard a lot of good things about this place so I had to give it a try. There was about 8 people in front of me in line, but they have a good system of ordering and paying at one window and picking up at the next, to keep the line moving. They accept cards which is huge, since I rarely carry cash. They have any flavor that anyone could ever want. The syrup to ice ratio was perfect. The employees were very professional and pleasant. This will definitely be my new go to spot. I highly recommend Houey's if you are looking for the perfect shaved ice! read more

Great family owned business that is similar to Rita's but with a lot more choices. Be prepared it will take you a minute to figure out what you want. The cup sizes are generous and will not disappoint. The prices are great too! Go get one or two before the season changes. read more

Loved the shaved ice but was shock to Learn that they don't give customer who Pay cash any type of change back. No matter how much Money you give them. The sign reflecting if you are paying with cash we don't give change is laying in the counter not standing up like in other stores. But what shocked me the most is when someone paid in cash with a 20.00 bill and was told he would not receive any change. This upset him and myself as well I can understand a quarter here and there but 12.00! This is awful and illegal I found out. But the biggest disgrace of all is your receipt does not reflect the amount given only the total of the cone. So this lead me to believe that they are not reporting the extra income as income on their taxes. I have filed a complaint with the better business bureau. I asked them if they had a donation jar and gave those funds to people in need and of course the answer was no. I think they should have a gift card policy in place that if you pay with cash we will give you a rewards cards towards your next purchase. Everyone dies not use debit cards . So beware if you pay in case. You will not get any change back. Cone is good. But not good enough fir you to keep my money read more

I can finally stop making the long drive to Ritas! This place has a wide variety of flavors with a good mix of toppings. Dont be afraid to try the cream or whipped cream toppings! The truck showed up with a broken blade. They had no replacement in the truck and the replacement didn't show up until 47 minutes into our 1 hour party, and the ice machine was not operational until 51 minutes into our 1 hour party. By that time more than half our guests had departed without receiving the Kona ice, and the few who remained had been waiting for nearly an hour. The driver/operator was nice and professional throughout, but then the company expected me to pay the full price. Chris, an owner/operator, called and became combative on the phone, stating that they had "fixed" the situation and had provided the service we had agreed to. We agreed to one hour of service from 12-1pm, and received nine minutes of service in that time window (12:51-1:00pm) for the roughly 1/3 of our guests who waited around that long. The truck stayed longer, but the party was over at that time. Unacceptable service, made doubly so by the "demand" that we pay for a service we did not receive as agreed upon.

This is a small family business. They sell ice cream, paletas, Latino prepackaged snacks, and cold drinks. They have a lot of unusual flavors in their frozen treats. Flavors like chicle, nuez, nance, pinon, tequila, etc. Paletas are Mexican frozen treats on a little stick. It can be made with fruit, herbs, spices, or ice cream. Some flavors are a combination of these. All of the frozen products in this store are bought from vendors. There was some delay in ordering because the woman in charge spoke only a little English. A young lady who was helping her, spoke English well. She didn't know all of the ingredients in many of the flavors. So, understanding Spanish would be useful. Searching the names of the flavors on the internet will give you the main ingredients. We bought 2 ice creams and 4 paletas. 1) Gansito ice cream It was vanilla ice cream with swirls of chocolate syrup and strawberry syrup. It had shards of chocolate and pieces of strawberries. It had good flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. This was much better than neopolitan ice cream! Gansito is a Mexican snack cake that has a chocolate coated sponge cake filled with white creme and strawberry jelly. I've never had a Gansito, but this was very delicious! 2) Raspberry cheesecake ice cream It was buttery cheesecake ice cream with swirls of sweetened raspberry puree. It had bits of raspberry and tiny raspberry seeds. It was rich and creamy with a mild sweetness. 3) Tequila paleta It was like an ice milk with a light tequila flavor with a mild sweetness. I can't say that I loved this. It was so-so. 4) Rum raisin paleta It was like an ice milk with a moderate smooth rum flavor. The raisins were all clumped together at the top. It would have been better if the raisins were distributed evenly because the sweet raisins went well with the rum. An almost great flavor. 5) Piñon paleta Piñon is the edible seed from a pine tree, aka pine nut. The flavor is mildly nutty. This paleta had a mild nutty and coconut milk flavor. It smelled like oily coconut. Not appealing at all! 6) Nuez paleta Nuez means nut in Spanish and pecan in Mexican. This had a light butter pecan ice cream flavor. We enjoyed it because it wasn't too buttery or sweet. The service was helpful, patient, and polite. The store was clean. There were 2 tables and 4 chairs. No restrooms for the public. There's plenty of free parking around the area. They have at least 27 ice cream flavors and 24 paleta flavors. The price for 4 small scoops of ice cream was $5. The price for each paleta was $3. Not cheap, but some are worth the price. We'll be trying more flavors. The Latino snacks looked interesting also.
