Such a Gem!!! I was in love with this cute little inn as soon as I drove down the driveway. I told my husband I wanna come back before even getting our room key. The staff was so kind and made us feel right at home. Our room was so nicely put in together and very clean. They offered complimentary water and coffee in our rooms which was such a treat. The evening wine reception and morning breakfast were fantastic. Definitely well exceeded any expectations we had. It was also nice getting a chance to mingle with some of the others staying at the inn. People traveling from all over the world to see the beauty of Yosemite. A short drive into the park and into the town of Oakhurst. Very convenient. All I can really say is this Inn will hold a special place in my heart and I can't wait to go back. read more

I recently stayed at the Houndstooth Inn near Yosemite, and it was a pretty great experience overall. The hospitality was top-notch, and the place was impressively clean. One of the highlights was the delicious hot breakfast they served - a great way to start the day before heading out to explore Yosemite. The price was reasonable, and I felt like I got good value for my stay. However, there was one minor issue - the AC was quite loud, and it disrupted our sleep. It would be great if they could provide earplugs! Additionally, a bit of help with luggage up the stairs would have been appreciated, as we had some heavy bags. No elevators as it's more like a home. On the bright side, the location was fantastic - just 20 minutes from the Wawona entrance of the park and the beautiful grove of old trees. The drive to the valley wasn't a big deal as we were prepared for it, and we enjoyed our time exploring. The Jacuzzi bath was a real treat, and there were plenty of fun games available for entertainment. I also appreciated the option to enjoy tea in the lobby. I thought the property was lovely and easy free parking. Cute town and inn! read more

Stayed here for the first time in the 1st of the year Our room was very nice, clean and the bed was comfortable. The two hour evening wine and hors d'oeuvres was a nice touch. Amazing little bed and breakfast associated with the Hyatt . We stayed in a room with a spa tub and fire place . It was so cute ! In the evening they offered wine and finger foods from 5-6pm and breakfast was delicious served from 7-9am. The staff was extremely friendly, Mayra checked us in and out and recommend many restaurants so we choose Smokehouse 41 and we were not disappointed. Such a lovely town and only 1.5 maybe less from Yosemite so we got some hiking in. 10/10 would recommend this luxury bed and breakfast. Great experience. We will be coming back ! read more

This 12 room SLH BnB is not only convenient to Yosemite, it's also the perfect home base with great service. We stayed for two nights on a Friday and Saturday in order to have proximity to Yosemite early before the crowds. Check in: If you're coming in after sun down, be on the lookout for the sign as it's right on Highway 41 and can be tough to see. Speed limit is 45, but people are peeling through at 60+ MPH. We came in after a long, long day of hiking on Friday afternoon. We were informed that we would be in room 8, which is right upstairs and to the right. I was able to confirm my back-to-back stay details since I used two booking systems to make it more economical. Room: Believe what you read about the inn feeling like you're staying in someone's home. While the room itself was spacious, the home element is the door. Big name hotel chains are accustomed to heavier doors that lock when closed behind you. Hounds Tooth Inn's doors are similar to a normal bedroom door in a home. This isn't that big of a deal, but you should be weary if you're sensitive to noise as there was a rowdy group of folks outside our door at 3AM which woke us up! Other than that, the bathroom was on the smaller side, but did the job. There's also a small wet bar by the entrance which includes a Keurig, sink, and mini fridge. Amenities: If you have an electric vehicle, there are Tesla Superchargers in the lot in the front. During these COVID affected travel times, Hounds Tooth Inn does a great job at accommodating! Instead of having to show up at specific times for breakfast or the evening reception, the property caters to your schedule. For breakfast, you'll receive order slips and the following day's menu. You'll put your order down and what time you'd like to pick it up. The front desk will call your room around the time of requested pick up when it's ready. While the food comes in to go containers and cutlery, the food itself is hot and beautifully plated! If you're keen on the evening reception, Hounds Tooth Inn pre-makes a cheese + meat platter and asks if you prefer sparkling, white, or red. Upon selection, you'll receive a whole bottle! What a great treat post hike! The reason for the 4 stars instead of the 5 is the overall cost for what you get. I understand getting a boutique, personalized experience, but at ~$250/night, I expected the room to have been more focused on getting a good night's sleep. Perhaps next time, I'll try to get a King sized bed as the Queen beds + pillows weren't ideal on my aching, all hiked out body! Looking forward to my next stay! read more

This quaint inn deserves more than 5 stars! It was a perfect place to rest after long days visiting Yosemite National Park. Only 20 minutes from the park entrance and close to good options for dinner. I cannot say enough about the accommodating staff- all so friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were delicious with plenty of wonderful options. The grounds were well tended and our room was perfectly comfortable. I heard about the Hounds Tooth from a friend who visited before and was super excited to stay on property. I want to be in the business of owning and operating small hotels/bed and breakfasts and, upon hearing of this place, wanted to check it out and see how amazing it would be. I was immediately struck by how beautiful the building is from the driveway. It has awesome little touches in the moulding and surrounding architecture which definitely piqued my interest. For the (what I thought was a great) price of $200 for the night I thought "what a bargain!" From this point, I experienced one disappointment after another. Upon check-in, we were greeted by a new addition to the property. While we definitely had a good conversation, it was definitely of a caliber I wasn't expecting from this "Small Luxury Hotel." She was nice and accommodating by seemed to casual. Since I want to be in this business, I asked her if it was possible to see the rooms they offered. I wanted to get an idea of how this hotel presents itself. She informed that they were all booked up, but since a couple of parties had not checked in, I could look in their rooms. Although I appreciated her accommodating my request, I am not sure I would like random people walking through my room before I checked in. That aside, she was super nice and put us at ease. The wine and cheese event looked well enough, but we chose not to attend due to another party crowding the fireplace. (we did take a couple of snacks, which were yummy). When we got to the room, I was surprised at how sterile the inside was. White, or off-white, walls everywhere and very little character to the room. Again, this was not necessarily bad, just not what I was expecting. We stayed in a queen room with an in-room jacuzzi. My biggest complaints with the room are that the TV was no more than 25-inches, and placed far from the bed, making viewing somewhat of a task. I would have thought the tv would be at least 50-inches for the price and "quality" of the hotel. In addition, there were ants on our small coffee cart area with the Keurig machine. (We didn't notice the insects until the next morning, or I would have requested to have it cleaned.) Thirdly, until about 2:30 am there was a banging noise outside every 10-15 minutes. It sounded like someone was slamming the garbage can lid or something. When I called into the office at 2 am, the gentleman (who I'm pretty sure I woke up) first told me there was no noise and that I shouldn't worry because he "couldn't hear it." When I explained it to him further, he admitted that the noise also happened the night prior and that he didn't know where it was coming from. From that point, and in addition to the noisy air conditioner, we had trouble getting decent rest. Consequently, and not totally our own fault, we slept through our alarms and ended up missing breakfast, which ended at 10 am. I understand that there are times for things for a reason but I was upset to find out that when we checked out at 10:45, there was still plenty of food out on display from breakfast. (Surely if I still had food out and a guest called me just after breakfast ended and told me that they slept through it, I would encourage them to come to take some food to go, at the very least.) My last issue with the Inn, which is also related to check-in, was the professionalism of the staff. When we were checking out, we were simply handed a card to write this review and a pack of macarons. As a "thank you" gift, I certainly appreciated the gesture of the treats, but when the gentleman (might have been the one I talked to in the wee hours) presented them he, in air quotes, told me they were "authentic." In my opinion, I would love to see the staff behave in a manner befitting of a "Small Luxury Hotel," and less of one appropriate for the Best Western down the road. The menu is original and changes every night. Rooms are outstanding especially with the fireplace. Keep in mind the sink is next to the bed for some reason. If you are looking for a quiet place to rest your head, the Hounds Tooth Inn is the perfect spot. It sits off of highway 41 just north of the Oakhurst and only consists of about 12 rooms. It is more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel. We only stayed one night being that the family and I were starting a 4 day gold country adventure. When we arrived, it was around 6:30 and there was a wine and cheese reception in the lobby. There is nothing better than a glass of wine or two after being on the road for 6 hours. The next morning, I was able to enjoy coffee out on the porch or veranda I guess you could call it. Coffee is available 24/7 I believe as well as a selection of soda, water, and tea. Breakfast is provided as part of your stay and what a hearty breakfast it is. Potato and sausage frittata, biscuits with mushroom gravy, ham, sausage, and an assortment of pastries and fresh fruit. Not what I expected, but a great way to start the day. The staff was very friendly. We only interacted with the manager and the chef. I liked the fact that they just left you alone to enjoy the inn. We decided after our experience at the Hounds Tooth Inn, we will be back for sure. And maybe we will even follow the crowds to Yosemite next time. read more

We stayed here with our family while visiting the Mariposa Grove of big trees in Yosemite. It's just off the Hiway 41 north of Oakhurst. We had 3 rooms- 2 upstairs plus the large separate cottage. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the daily wine and appetizers in the afternoon and the wonderful breakfast in the morning. There is no elevator which would have been nice for my 95 year old Mother, but she managed the stairs ok. There is a good Mexican restaurant, El Cids, just about 1/4 mile away. The only drawback was the poor cell phone reception. read more

Rooms very in size but tent to run on the smaller size ( by American standards) yet with plenty of character and comfort! The room decor is a bit outdated but is in the process of renovation. However very clean and very comfortable bed! In the evening staff hosts wine tasting with few small hors-d'oeuvres. In the morning very good and tasty breakfast with multiple hot and cold options (custom made if desired). WiFi seemed to be temperamental at times. Can not say enough GOOD THINGS about customer service and hospitality of the hostesses. They are very friendly, thoughtful and accommodating to everyone! Just truly a unique B&B with just the right amount of charm. And our hostess Brea is incredible. Greeted us with an amazing smile and made sure we understood all the amenities they had to offer. And for $140 a night plus tax, I was in. Now there were other hotels near by with more to offer but this place appeared charming. And I had to try it Right off, perfect place to enjoy the quiet and just allow yourself to be. The room we got was spacious for the two of us. And before all that, the "house" looks so welcoming. And very clean and manicured. It's not huge like say the Gables in Monterey but pleasantly the perfect size, so only 12 rooms. Our room was tastefully designed and our queen size bed was just perfect. Not too soft but just the right firmness. Well, at least for us. Everyone is different. Carpet was softer than hotel carpet. This was plush. Felt good on my feet. And the bath area blends with the room. Not like a studio but close. Ok, not the biggest T.V. but I had no desire to watch. Let's just say this is not what we came for. Shower is small and our Shampoo and Soap dispenser did not work. Not a huge disappointment but something to look into. They have a really nice wine and snack social. There were at least 6 bottles of wine to choose from. I got a little tipsy. But I enjoyed meeting a few people. This place is worth staying you will have a good time if you want quiet and understated. I know after the week my fiance had this was welcome escape. read more

I booked this place during the winter. The place was wonderful, it was not that crowded and he people who managed during the day and night was very lovely. We loved the Victorian style suites. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. We stayed here for 3 nights and celebrated our anniversary here. It is the best deal for the price. The free breakfast was wonderful, there were some specials daily in the morning. If u are very new to this place and if u arrive at night it is very tricky to find the entrance. I wanted to like Hounds Tooth Inn, I really did, but unfortunately, my stay would have been better at the local Best Western or La Quinta. The view winding down is deceivingly beautiful. However, upon closer inspection, the Inn is not being cared for properly. The Inn is lovely, but the grounds are terrible and need a makeover. This sets the stage for an inside that looks more like a sterile, no-character long-term nursing home. The lobby was bland and had nothing warm except a fireplace. I will get to the rooms later. The woman who greeted us was snarky, snotty, and seemed inconvenienced. She practically threw the key at us, and that was our greeting. At every Bed and Breakfast I have stayed, someone walks you to your room, allowing you a walkthrough to deem it acceptable. I understand why they didn't offer that, as everyone would probably leave. My boyfriend purchased an early check for us, but we never received confirmation; thus, he called and asked when the room would be ready; they said they weren't sure and to call. We called in the morning and were told the earliest, 2 pm, but someone would call. We arrived at the Inn at 2; since no one ever called, we just showed up. The woman said the room was ready at 12. I told her we were told differently and could have checked in at any hotel by 1, and if it had been prepared would have gotten it free. She argued, got nasty, and still charged us $75 for One hour extra! Fraudulent! Our room was tiny and nothing like the pictures. We paid well over $200 for a queen-upgraded suite with a fireplace and jetted tub. It was dark and musty, had a massive stain on the rug, and part of the carpet was ripped. They used a horrible fragrance spray to cover it up, which immediately gave me a headache. The area where the coffee was, the table was warped with paint chipping. There were cobwebs and a giant spider that greeted us above the bed. I understand it's the mountains, but that's what good cleaning and an exterminator can do. They should try it out! The jetted tub was chipped, there was never enough hot water, and the water was brown. One evening out of the four nights we were there, there was no hot water. It was an amenity that we had looked forward to and paid for Another morning there was no water; you couldn't even flush the toilet. The shower handle was not marked for hot or cold water, and in fact, the handle was broken, and you had to turn it multiple ways to get it on and then figure out which was hot. The first morning we asked about issues, the woman said some of our water heaters are broken, so all the rooms have to work off a couple. If you take your bath late or early morning, it works great. We paid a lot of money, and this is the solution? The bed was hard as a rock, and the sheets felt like sandpaper. Then the last night, our sheets came up from the bottom, and we noticed a second sheet under the first. I used to do that as a kid to make bed changing easy. However, that's not up to code or par health-wise when someone may sweat and, or god knows what on the top sheet, and then the maids come in, strip that sheet, throw a new top one, and now I am sleeping on it? The health department could have a field day with that one. The refrigerator was only slightly cold and was leaking as the wood under was warped and peeling, and the carpet was wet below. There were zero decorations in the room except for a small picture on the wall and a couple of chairs, and the furniture was cheap and looked like you would find it in a college dormitory, not in a room where guests spend $200 plus a night. The space above us had no concept of quiet hours and was parading around most of the night and using the jacuzzi past midnight. The heating and air conditioning sounded like a jet landing in the room every time it started and stopped. The ice machine was broken, and we could not enjoy our favorite beverage. The evening reception reminded me of game night at a local sports bar. Some chips were thrown in a bowl, and hard cheese was left over from the night before. The breakfast was subpar and reminded me of the frozen pancakes and waffles we used to purchase in a box with some fruit thrown on top, it was never once warm, and the coffee was always cold. Not to mention the young girl who was cooking and brought us our food looked like she had just gotten out of bed. She was dressed like a slob in flannel pajamas and a T-shirt, disgraceful. Everything about this place, from the staff except for one Tammy, who went above and beyond to try to make us happy, was completely subpar, especially for the price. The place suffers from neglect, poor management and what we saw as "we don't care attitude." The place has great potential but sadly we will never recommend and never be back. Do yourself a favor and check in to the new Hampton down the road, don't spend your money here. read more

The inn provided a lovely wine reception with charcuterie and the lady at the front desk was really kind. Our room was spacious, clean, very modern and comfortable. It appeared to have been recently renovated and had all of the amenities that we needed. The shower was on the smaller side and the room did not have an alarm clock. We ended up sleeping in and missing the complimentary breakfast which I heard was great. When we arrived we got a bottle of wine either white or red and they had a fantastic cheese and meat platter in the refrigerator in our room. Very nice room very spacious and calming. Because of COVID-19 you can't eat breakfast like you used to at a B&B. But we got to order what we wanted from a choice of different egg sandwiches, juices etc. so it worked out perfectly. We picked up our food in the morning and then ate at a table. The girl in the morning was extremely helpful we needed some ice and she put some in a couple of bags so we could keep some food cold as we traveled. Little touches like that are great. We went out to dinner and when we came back it was late and they had no lights on outside. So I mentioned it to the guy on duty because we went right past the hotel. I hope they do something about it. I also asked if you stayed more than two nights could you get some kind of a discount. The Hounds Tooth Inn is the gem of the MotherLode. It's a great establishment and feels like you're visiting a dear friend's house. Mayra made our stay over the top with all the amenities you could ask for! She gives THE best customer service and Roger made THE best breakfast both days we were here. We came in the off season during March and we were treated with a fair price so we ended up staying two nights. From the fresh and clean rooms to a yummy breakfast and excellent staff, my wife and I both agree that this is a great place to relax and call home for a few days. This is a charming little bed and breakfast. They are close to the southern entrance of Yosemite. The breakfast is great. They have a menu and you pick your food the day before. They have wine and cheese in the lobby each evening. There is other food and water in the fridge also at no charge. The staff is friendly. The room was a little dated but totally acceptable. The grounds are very nice. They advertise themselves as a luxury experience which is a stretch. But then you can't expect luxury in the 250 price range. My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed here on Memorial Day Weekend (2014). It was the first BnB experience for my wife and I and our first trip to Yosemite. We arrived a little early but Mike allowed us check in and get set up on the free WiFi. In talking to Mike, he indicated that it was he and his wife's first weekend managing Hounds Tooth Inn (HTI). He indicated that they previously managed another local facility for 7 years. Needless to say, they were very professional and accommodating. Our room (Brobray room #8) was well maintained and clean. It included a basic tv with cable, bed, small refrigerator, sink, microwave, couch, small desk and hair dryer. We were a little concerned about breakfast since some of the previous reviews regarding breakfast wasn't great. Well we awoke to a delightful surprise. Janie, prepared a wonderful homemade biscuits n gravy along with fresh fruits, various cereals, fresh milk, apple and orange juice. Fresh pastries and toast. The following morning featured eggs and sausage while the 3rd morning offered homemade pancakes. We had a great experience at HTI and thank Mike, Janie, and Mariah (there youngest daughter) for making our first BnB and Yosemite experience fantastic. We stayed here for our first trip to Yosemite at the end of May. The Inn was very clean and the management was so friendly! We had a great first experience in Yosemite because Amy, the manager, used to be a ranger and gave us some very good tips. She actually helped map out our days to maximize our time and avoid getting stuck in traffic and made sure we had water bottles and snacks. I would recommend going to the wine reception - I enjoyed it every night of my trip! I got to try wines that I don't normally pick and meet other guests. Because the Inn is going through renovations, they're eager to hear about your feedback and how they can improve the experience, which is a great sign that they care. Booked a room for December 27, 2021. On December 26 we got confirmation we could check in early on the 27. We drove 2 1/2 hours through the snow and inclement weather to show up at the front door with a hand written note that said they were closed and if you had reservations go to the Comfort Inn. (Note: the Comfort Inn had no idea about this). No phone call, text or email, just a note on the door. The Comfort Inn was less than desirable and in no way could account for the $400.00 a night room rate at the Houndstooth. The absolute worst customer service in fact 0 customer service. After luckily finding another hotel room we were advised by that hotels staff, the Houndstooth had been sending customers away for the 3 previous days due to weather and a plethora of other lame excuses. I'm not sure how "nice" this place is because all we saw was a note on the door and a dark B&B. I can't believe we got no notification, not even the decency, if you can call it that, to have someone there to give us the news, and find us another place for the night. We paid $217 for a room for the night and was so disappointed. IT WAS NOT CLEAN. The sheets felt like sandpaper. The carpet was stiff and ripped. We decided to use the jetted tub and as soon as we turned on the bubbles the water changed color and had a disgusting film along the edges! It was so gross. We drained it and tried again and same result. Feeling disgusting after having who knows what all over my body. I tried to take a shower. Guess what? NO HOT WATER! My husband called down to the front desk and she said..."The pilot light went out. Give it a few minutes and try again." Almost an hour later I took a cold shower. And surprise surprise almost every restaurant in Oakhurst closes at 8:00pm. The next morning breakfast was subpar, microwaved. When we checked out my husband asked to speak to the manager about our experience. She took his name, number, and email and said the manager would call us. The manager or owner never reached out. We will not be recommending the Hounds Tooth Inn to any of our friends or family. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hampton. read more

Big thumbs up to this place. Quiet, clean, great staff, comfortable beds and good location. They serve made to order breakfast. They have a wine hour in the evening. I cannot tell how relaxing it is to be welcomed to a place the way you are here. read more

This was my 2nd time staying at Hounds Tooth in. I visited in March 2021 and had the most AMAZING stay! A great daily takeaway breakfast, a charcuterie board and bottle of wine left in our room in the evening, as well as a evening dessert such as chocolate dipped strawberries. These little perks made our stay so personable and lovely and the best part of our stay here! I recommended this cute B&B to so many friends and family members that have also stayed here since. I visited again this past weekend, arrived Friday, and it was a nightmare! Bo more personal charcuterie board or wine or chocolate strawberries. the worst part was the man named Derick at the front desk, he was beyond rude and unprofessional. I asked him if we would be receiving the evening wine and cheese board and his response was I had to come downstairs to the lobby 6-9 and hung up (it was 5:30 at this point) I called again and he didn't answer my call! Anyway we had dinner plans so just ended up leaving, but Saturday night, we came down at 6:15, and they had a cheap grocery store salami and slices of cheese and crackers, and an empty bottle of wine! Derick was in the lobby again and I asked him if he could bring another bottle, and he rudely said "no, we're out" Are you kidding me?! This is advertised on their home page and they only have one bottle of wine for a full hotel?! That's completely false advertising and an utter disappointment. This place is completely overpriced to be treated with such poor customer service. I am completely disappointed in the regression of this hotel (new management?) and I will absolutely be telling my friends and family to stay away! read more

I had a 2-nights (8/18 and 8/19)  booking at this Oakhurst CA location. Upon checking and entering the room which I paid at least 260 per night. I expected the room should look like 260.00 per night rooms like others. To be honest with you I believe Motel-6 has a better room than this hotel. I did not have any privacy in the room. 1) vertical blinds were broken which you can see through from outside even we rolled down roller blinds. 2) Sadly roller blinds were shorter than the actual window size. 3) Mattress was wavey. 3) Mattress was wavey. The bedsheet, bedcover, and blanket were old and not up to the standards. I can't explain how I was feeling all night. My vacation mood was destroyed as soon as I entered my room. I had chosen this hotel over Hollyday Inn, now I see that was my biggest mistake. My entire vacation was messed up because of this hotel room. Not and never again at your hotel including my family and friends in the bay area. Please see attached pic, so you can see how this hotel management is. They simply don't care. I will complain about this to Consumers' affairs in Sacramento and BBB. It is totally unexceptable. read more

We got away this christmas as we went through a Major loss in our family and are in moarning. This charming little inn was so cute and romantic feeling. The hotel staff was amazingly helpfull, welcoming, and kind . I believe his name was Jason ( bald head) . We now love this place and Will def be back. Highly recommend! read more

Love this place. We stayed here for our 10yr Anniversary. The room was comfortable, clean, cozy, and quiet. Anthony, the pastry chef, was a delight and made a fantastic, complimentary, full breakfast. The evening reception with Wine & snacks was also perfect. The grounds are quaint with multiple quiet places to sit and enjoy the sound of the nearby creek & waterfall and all the birdsongs. It is Close to Yosemite, BassLake, Fishcamp, and Oakhurst. Plenty of activities around and plenty of opportunity to relax. We will definitely go back. read more

We had a very nice time staying at Hounds Tooth Inn. It is very convenient to the entrance of Yosemite, near the Mariposa grove of sequoias, and to go to Wawona & Glacier Point. ( If your primary goal is to see Yosemite Valley, Hetch Hetchy or Tioga Pass, stay in Mariposa). You can rent a room or the one little house/cottage. The Inn Keeper was super nice and a good cook. We had really, really nice breakfasts ! Always plenty of little snacks, and an enjoyable Wine and cheese reception every evening. We met and talked to people from all over the world. It's close to downtown Oakhurst and we were able to go to the movies and the grocery store. Easily. My only suggestion for their management would be to get the Innkeeper an assistant for weekend breakfasts, because that is a very big job. There were probably twenty people at a time for breakfast, and it is cooked... not a buffet. Which makes it special. But you have to wait a long time. Innkeeper has to clean too. Hire an assistant. I'd go back here again, or recommend their little house for a family of 4,5... for visiting the park. read more
