Located near Yosemite, I chose this B&B for it's proximity to the park & the promise of wifi, along with a reasonable rate. A Bed of Roses did not disappoint! As this was a weeknight stop on our California road trip, I still needed internet access for my job. We stayed in the Country Rose room, and while the bedroom was small, the bathroom was spacious, and this was all we needed for one night. We ended up stopping for dinner before arriving, which pushed back our check-in later than I had initially thought. The host was great with quick responses to my updates! We were advised on where to find our entry info & had no problems. Though it was only around 9pm when we arrived, we didn't see anyone that night. Our room was in the back, through the house with a separate entrance from the deck. Just outside of our door was a patio table with a couple of chairs; this is where I did my work that night, under the stars, and also the next morning. Internet was fine there & I enjoyed working outdoors in mid-May. The bedroom itself was small & rather stuffy, but we opened the windows because they had screens, and we were comfortable all night. My only gripe about our room was a lack of pillows, as we only had one for each of us. But, since it was late, I made zero effort to see if any extras were available in the main house. Our in-suite bathroom was huge & included a mini-fridge. The shower was in a ginormous garden tub with an awkward climb-in entry, but served its purpose. We had been provided plenty of towels, as well as a hair dryer. The next morning, we were able to better appreciate our surroundings. The deck was elevated & spanned the entire back of the house, with several seating areas in addition to the one outside of our room. Down the steps was a pool (though closed), and a small landscaped yard. We could see the mountains from the deck, and wildlife including wild turkeys ran through the yard. We also enjoyed a huge freshly-made breakfast that morning. I wish I remembered her name, but the cook was very friendly & helpful with local tips. The inside dining table was large, and we were able to meet some of the other guests while we dined on the spread of varied breakfast items. The location was indeed perfect for visiting Yosemite, but this area seemed to also offer a lot more to do & see outside of the park. Lack of time aside, our one-night stay at A Bed of Roses in mid-May 2022 was great, and I'd definitely stay here again. read more

For the third Christmas in a row my boyfriend and I chose this charming bed and breakfast. Aside from the cozy comfort and beautiful surroundings, the mother and daughter hostesses (Jo and Emma) make for an especially enjoyable visit. They are dedicated to making our stay comfortable and enjoyable and we look forward to seeing them at Christmastime. I would give them five golden stars for the breakfasts they prepare which was better than the meal we had on Christmas day at a very expensive venue. Additionally, the community-style breakfast table offers an opportunity to visit with people from around the world. This bed and breakfast is the perfect setting for writing and reading as it is peaceful, comfortable, full of charm and has lovely views. Where should I start. Reservations are easy to do online and you will receive email close to your arrival finalizing everything including check-in process. Keyless entry for room. Telephone number provided to talk/text for questions or concerns. Bed and Breakfast is located off highway 41 at the top of hill. You will see the sign. Just warning at night pitch dark on highway 41 the street to turn on you may miss it. Check-in is 3 pm but we were able to check-in alittle after 2. It was extremely hot and dry in Yosemite this past wkend(Aug 19-22), 95-102 degrees. Why mention that because our room was a sauna especially when we check-in, 102 degrees outside. We arrived to Country Rose room with Window open and vent was off when we check-in. I immediately reached out to the host and they were good on replying immediately. That is when we discovered vent was off and I had to stand on the bed to open it. Country Rose room we were miserable during the day. It was extremely hot and we were glad after 4 pm room finally was cooling down . Room has a jacuzzi tub/shower. Do not recommend if you have hip/knee problems or plain clumsy like me. You need to sit on edge & pivot to get in/out. Bed is against the wall so with 2 people 1 has to slide off bed. We always bring our snacks, stop and got a sandwich for later and luckly we did. No social hour at this bed and breakfast. Next town is about 30 minutes from bed and breakfast. Nothing within walking distance. Breakfast is a pass. 1st day we tried and it was subpar. Made me have upset stomach. Egg casserole with green peas & carrots. Never had peas and carrots for breakfast & never will again. 2nd day was blueberry pancakes (from a box just add water & cook) english muffin (not toasted), frozen hash brown that looks like it was heated in toaster oven. No flow to the breakfast. Just seemed no thought process and placed on the table. Every breakfast is cut up fruit (banana, strawberries & raspberries) placed in a bowl that all guests serve themselves, yogurt & orange juice. Sorry but need a course on cooking breakfast & baking for bed and Breakfast inn. Caretaker sits with guest and has breakfast. We learned that this bed and breakfast has a new owners since April 2022. Caretaker lives in the house, she cooks breakfast and keeps place clean. She is friendly. Air conditioner is turned off at night. Spoke with another couple & they said their room was constantly freezing vs our room was extremely warm/uncomfortable during the day. The other couple said their room floor was uneven, a dip on the floor close to their bed in addition to wire hanging and fan in the window. We will not be returning. Dont recommend. House needs major update & is not ADA friendly. read more

We booked this property for the room and breakfast. We followed their very strict rules and were down for breakfast at 8am. No one arrived nor contacted us to let us know what was going on. After waiting 20 minutes, we left and got breakfast elsewhere. So, if you are expecting breakfast at this bed and breakfast, we can tell you that it never arrived. I would not recommend. If you are looking for an affordable stay, at the beginnings of Sequoia National Park, this an affordable option. The property is up a little ways from the 41, and offers a brilliant view of the surrounding mountainside. For our 2-night stay we were in the Country Rose room. It had a super soft bed, flat screen tv, faux fireplace heater, mini fridge, and jacuzzi tub. The grounds were well taken care of, and the staff very friendly and attentive to our needs. In the main building there is a seating area with options to fill your down time, via books or television. The hot breakfast was a great start to each of the mornings we were there. Eggs, hash browns, fruit, toast, and cold/hot beverage the first morning, then the same options with yogurt added, but a delicious cinnamon toast casserole, as the main dish, instead of eggs on the second day. For the price-point you cannot go wrong with a stay at this establishment. read more

Staying again for sure! This place is very easy to find off the main highway. The room views were amazing in mid-fall. Parking was convenient and the heater and light was left on for us when we notified Mary Kay we would be arriving very early morning. We were in Red Rose room. I think it's better then the pictures. It had a comfortable bed with plenty of extra blankets if needed. There was also a coffee bar in the room that was perfect. It had reusable and disposable cups, coffees,teas, cream/sugar. The room also had a mini fridge. The large porch was amazing for sitting and soaking in sun. The jetted tub was clean and roomy like the standing shower. A small electric candle was already there. Wine glasses and a bottle opener as well. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash was provided. I'd say use there's and save on packing it was of recognizable good quality brand. Breakfast both mornings was delicious eggs, hash browns, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, orange juice one day, then the main course was switch for blueberry pancakes the next. Again the owners went out of their way to make our stay great when I was able to bring my husband a tray to the room after I explained he would not make it in to breakfast because he needed to rest. It was them who offered to take it to go. The grounds are gorgeous just big enough for a tiny stroll and small enough to feel cozy and not overwhelming. Did I say amazing views of the mountains everywhere!!!! We went into town, a quick drive back the way you came, for dinner. Everyone we met was friendly and inviting. The only friendly advice I'd give is avoid if you have tons of trouble with stairs, otherwise it's 100% a relaxing, quiet and comfortable place to get away to. This B & B has 4 rooms. It would be perfect for a couples mini retreat or even a mother/daughter, sister's getaway weekend trip, anytime really. I live in Fresno and go on writing retreats to Oakhurst every spring. A few years ago, looking for a more affordable option, I found Bed of Roses and have gone back every year since. It is not fancy and could definitely use some cosmetic updates, but it feels comfortable, like going to a friend's house rather than a luxury resort, which is all most hikers need. I always sit down for breakfast with people from all over the world, which makes up for the fact that the breakfast is served family style, so you don't get as much as in some B&B places where each guest is served an individual feast or even has access to a buffet--you feel like you need to share! For the last two years, I paid for the cheapest room and they upgraded me to the best room, which I really appreciate. The big jetted tubs are great. It is very quiet, so perfect for spending the whole day writing, since most guests are at Yosemite. read more

My husband and I stayed here this past weekend on our anniversary trip. Fantastic! First off, the location couldn't be more perfect. It's right in between Bass Lake and Yosemite, with about a 10 minute drive to each place. We stayed in the Red Rose room, which had a private deck and a spa tub. I generally avoid the whole B&B-thing as I like privacy and generally like newer facilities without so much "character" (IE old furnishings, carpet, creaky floors and beds, etc.) But we didn't want a cookie-cutter Best Western-rooms-facing-the-highway experience for our anniversary, so after MUCH research, we settled on "A Bed of Roses." It was a wonderful experience and we wished we'd been able to stay twice as long as we did! On the advice of others we booked the "Red Rose" room... a very spacious (actually "huge") room with amazing views, private, private deck, surrounded by greenery and woods on all sides, and a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub. DirecTV with flat-screen HD TV, Amish fireplace, big closets, reclining chairs, futon, Cal King bed, high beamed ceilings... we just loved hanging out in it. Plenty of heat in the winter, and A/C for the heat of the summer. Wonderful, peaceful environment. The owners Mary Kay and Steve are just as nice, caring, and accommodating as they can be. We truly made friends there and look forward to staying in touch. Their breakfast was delicious... they are sensitive to any dietary needs, and you really get the "our home is your home" feeling. Its only a short 5-minute drive from Oakhurst, quiet in the hills on the way to Yosemite. But close enough to all the great restaurants (which Mary Kay and Steve can recommend.) They also suggested the nearby Lewis Creek Trail (and waterfall!) which we hiked to... after 25 years of going to Yosemite, we never even had heard of it-- SO glad they told us! A Bed of Roses has a small pool, a deck with a BBQ for your use, in a pretty, rustic environment. Plenty of character-- but the "good" kind. MUCH better than any hotel. We stayed three nights in the Garden Rose, and Got spectacular views from the near 180-degree windows. If you're an early riser, definitely get up for the sunrises! They're a sight to behold. My wife and I attended a wedding near Yosemite and stayed in the Garden Rose room at A Bed of Roses. While we are both seasoned travelers and are pros at the large chain hotel experience, we haven't stayed at many B&Bs in our many years of travel. A Bed of Roses will be the gold standard for any future B&B experience for us. Mary Kay and Steve make you feel welcome and at home right away. Bed of Roses is located ~15 min from the Yosemite south entrance, and 5 min from downtown Oakhurst, which has some great dining options if you're looking to refuel and unwind after a long day hiking:) Our room was very nice and clean, with spectacular views of the mountains. First experience at a B&B and it could not have been better. My girlfriend Alexis took me here for a little weekend get away. Steve and Mary Kay were so friendly and welcoming. This was much better than staying at a hotel and the Breakfast was amazing. Way better than what you would get at a restaurant. This is a good spot to stay if you want to head up to Yosemite, we went up to the snow park the first day and then on into Yosemite the second day. Please don't go there. We had made a reservation a month in advance and were already surprised to be charged the full amount. When we had to cancel 48hours in advance (at 2pm on a business day) because my wife was sick and we couldn't make the drive, the bad took a turn for the worse. I called several times, left apologetic voicemails and emails and got no response. Feeling sorry I had to cancel, I called again on the following day at 10:30am and had the worst customer experience I had in my life. The lady showed no understanding and unabashedly maintained the full charge for the room, hiding under the flimsy defense that "it's our policy, it's on the website". Right, it is if you want to read the fine print on the "house rules" page but I never saw it when I booked the room, and it was not even on the confirmation email that only states "Our primary policy is to make your stay as pleasant as possible." What a joke. Unpleasant, unfriendly people have nothing to do in the hospitality business. Now I know what they're like, I'm glad I didn't take my wife there. Oh, and if you're wondering, of course they refused a partial refund (even 50%!!) And didn't even think of offering a voucher for a later stay... I know, I still can't believe it either. read more

My wife and I spent our entire honeymoon at the Bed of Roses--by far the best bed and breakfast we've every stayed. The views from our room (the Garden Rose) were fantastic, and Yosemite is a scenic 10 mile drive away. Oakhurst has some great places to eat as well, and the owners (Steve and Mary) were very gracious with their recommendations and knowledge of the area and the park. This was an exceptionally pleasant place to stay for a couple of nights while we were attending a friend's wedding nearby! The Bed of Roses' owners really care and make sure that their guests enjoy their stay and get the most out of the beautiful Yosemite area. They walked all the guests through the map of the Yosemite park during one of the breakfasts and pointed out places that everyone must see while being in this beautiful area. that was very helpful. They made recommendations with the short time that we had there on what attractions are "Must See". Breakfasts were homemade every morning and the food was tasty with good variety. The accommodations were basic, the room was a bit small, but that is what you'd expect in a National Park type of an environment. People do not go there to stay in their rooms, right? A huge jacuzzi in our room was a nice and unexpected touch, and a little clean pool on the premises was great to have on hot afternoons. Overall the environment was very warm and welcoming. I'd very much recommend this cozy place for your few days to explore the Yosemite area. read more

The two owners, Steve and Mary Kay, are incredibly pleasant and make fantastic breakfasts. We spend an amazing night in the Garden Rose. The view is absolutely stunning and if you wake up early enough you can see the sun rise above the mountains. The place was clean and neat. Mary Kay and Steve couldn't have been any sweeter. They provided us with incredibly delicious breakfast in the morning. We wish we could have stayed longer! The house is very close to the Yosemite park entrance - only about a 10-15 minute drive. There are a few decent food options nearby. Our group of seven ladies decided to spend our girls' weekend at A Bed of Roses instead of a hotel, and it was such a blessing! Steve and Mary Kay were the perfect hosts. The common area allowed us to visit before breakfast each morning by a nice fire and surrounded by a beautiful view. We reserved the Garden Rose room and the Red Rose room and both were amazingly comfortable. The Red Rose room was a great place for us to play games and watch movies at night with plenty of comfortable seating for everyone. It also had its own private porch where we could have sat and read or enjoyed time visiting. A Bed of Roses is located close to Yosemite, Oakhurst, and Bass Lake, so there is plenty to do if you decide to head out for the day. We had a fantastic weekend, and we will definitely make this an annual trip! read more

On our recent trip to Yosemite, a group of friends and I reserved a room at a wonderful bed and breakfast called A Bed of Roses. We chose it because it was the closest overnight accommodations to Yosemite National Park. We didn't realize that we had stumbled upon a real gem that was scenic, cozy and homey. We stayed in the Garden Rose room which boasts a 180 view of the surrounding mountains. I especially enjoyed seeing the stars as I fell asleep. The room was clean, cozy, and quaint. We really appreciated that it had a small refrigerator, satellite television, a DVD player and a selection of DVDs. It was wonderful to have a filling home-cooked breakfast in the morning that was far superior to the dining hall fare at the Yosemite Lodge. It was also a great experience to chat with the other guests staying at the inn, several of which were international travelers. The couple who own the bed and breakfast were very kind, helpful and friendly. They provided us with excellent advice regarding dinner options in Oakhurst. They were also very helpful in advising us about the hikes that we could take, both in Yosemite and locally, how we could reach them and where we could park. On our last day, we enjoyed hiking on a beautiful, cool shady trail near a stream that was located only about 10 minutes from this bed and breakfast. The only issue that we had was the hour and 15 minute travel time to the park. Breakfast is served at 8:30am and if your day plans require you to get all of the way to Yosemite Valley very early, you may have to sacrifice the delicious breakfast, just make sure to notify the owners the night before so they don't plan to make you breakfast. However there are numerous hikes that are significantly closer that afford spectacular views of Yosemite. We thoroughly enjoyed these hikes as well! If you don't mind a short drive, I highly recommend this bed and breakfast! read more

This was an odd place. In positives, the hosts were gracious and thoughtful in the sense that they showed us where to go in Yosemite, prepared the room nicely for our stay with kids, and wanted to get to know us. But it was also unsettling and socially bizarre. They got out maps to show us spots in the park even though they knew we were catching the Sugar Pine Railroad in just a few minutes - because it's just what they always do. (Who cares about us, right?) We were almost late! Every morning they sat across from us, coffee cups in hand (not eating), our family of 4 stretched out across from them and quizzed us - without pausing even to help us pass food unless we could get a word in between them sharing their opinions (at length!) to ask for something. They love their routines. When we weren't much for conversation (focused on getting our kids fed and food from WAY at the end of the long table, not to mention eating something ourselves), they instead told us stories about their other guests that made me think they would gossip about us after we left (not very professional) and showed some awkward biases and stereotypes (e.g., that people from authoritarian countries have a hard time choosing places to sit - wouldn't anyone in a new situation?) and as well as lack of common social sense. They bragged about having set newlyweds at opposite ends of the table: "I bet it was the first time they'd been apart for days!" (Ha ha! I would have cried if it were my honeymoon. What gave them the right to toy with someone's once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon like that? Their HONEYMOON?!?) While they seemed to want to help their guests, it actually came across as manipulative, and much more focused on themselves (how much THEY enjoy eating with their guests, how THEY always get out maps at this time, etc.) than on the actual well-being of their guests. We came away with a deep knowledge of their political opinions (conservative) and ideas of gender roles in their marriage (men are bad at folding towels and finding things in the fridge, apparently) than about the area. (These are things we would have preferred to know nothing about, by the way. We didn't drive up to visit them!) They clearly really wanted us to respond to their political comments, but we weren't up to it. (We're both academics and - SURPRISE! - had come to Yosemite for a vacation, not debate.) I'm sure it's stimulating for them to talk politics over breakfast, but it was incredibly awkward for us. My husband wanted to skip breakfast the last day to avoid them, but it's hard for me to turn down free things. The food itself was tasty - at least the things I got to have from the far end of the table, trying to keep the kids well-behaved and trying not to respond to their outrageous commentary. I'd like to say they are nice people, and I have no doubt they were really trying, but the breakfasts were outright miserable. (Their questions and comments included: "Have you ever served in the military?" (to only my husband, of course) "I wouldn't have used these Veterans Day napkins if they (other guests with Indian names) were here. It makes some people uncomfortable." "One day we talked until mid-afternoon with a pacifist and his girlfriend. They completely missed their hikes! But of course they were free to go whenever they wanted." (Of course!) If you're traveling alone and want to get to know some inquisitive "local" people, this would be fine. (Steve defined "local" as anyone from the US, by the way, which I assume means everyone white.) We were on a family trip, and their presence (100% attention on us, hoping for debate) at breakfast felt intrusive, aggressive, and unprofessional. I knew on booking that there were shared breakfasts but had thought we would eat with other guests, or together with the hosts. Instead, it felt like we were on display while they sipped their coffee, badgering us with outrageous comments it was hard to respond politely to. I had this inner battle every morning between basic politeness (be courteous to hosts, don't argue politics in front of the kids . . .) and my instinct to call out nonsense when I hear it. In short, I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. The room was fine, but I couldn't sleep one night thinking about what I should have said the day before and might (but never did) say the next day. It was that bad. read more
