This review will be short...just like the experience I had here. I came to House of Torment this year for the first time. You can purchase your tickets online or ahead of time or when you arrive. There are 4 houses that you may visit, each has its own theme. I found out when trying to enter a house for the second time that I had to get a "refundable ticket". This was not explained to me when I purchased the tickets -that they were for one entry only. The whole experience lasted less than an hour and there were no photos allowed to be taken inside. For the price, that's deeply unsatisfying. It felt totally rushed and lacking in real substance. Based upon this short and lackluster experience, I can't say that I would return next year unless they seriously improve how they communicate and make the experience much deeper. read more

We have been coming here for a few years. Love the 3 different "houses" versus just one. They change a few things yearly but about 70% is the same . Love the posing picture opportunities. Drinks are outrageously priced. I wouldn't advise buying alcohol. We played a stupid amount for 4 shots that were tiny and tasted like sugar added to a capri sun. House of Torment in Austin did not disappoint! Each haunted house had a unique theme and was a mix of terrifying and thrilling fun, but #2 was hands-down my favorite--it had this awesome 'swamp borg' that was incredibly creepy and creative. The detail and creativity in all the rooms was just mind-blowing! We also tried the axe throwing, which was an absolute blast! I actually hit bullseyes multiple times, so that just added to the excitement. After that, we jumped into the escape house, which was also really enjoyable. My only suggestion would be to have set times for reservations; there was a line, so each group only got 5 minutes in there. I loved the mazes but I was extremely disappointed with the customer service and the unclear ticket rules. I'll start off with what I liked. My friends and I bought our tickets and fastpasses through Costco, which ended up being $30 per person. When we arrived, we were able to get into the lot quickly; with the fastpasses, we were able to queue up for the first haunted house quickly as well. A staff member scanned QR codes on our phones to validate the fastpass, then put us into the maze as one group. This made each house more immersive since there was lots of space between us and the group that went in before. A lot of work and thought went into designing each house, and some of the rooms were absolutely mindblowing. Definitely not a place to take those sensitive to light or sound however. There were plenty of scare actors and animatronics in each house, so you definitely get what you come for! Now for the cons - when we redeemed our codes online, some of us accidentally booked the wrong date. When we tried to change it, we found that we had to pay an extra change fee ($8!). We tried contacting customer support but it just amounted to an automated chatbot. The only personal help you can get is by contacting their support email, but the website said the response time would be slow. Because of this we ended up spending extra money on top of our ticket. Additionally, they do not make it clear that a ticket only gets you into each haunted house ONCE. We had to be told this by a staff member after we had gone through all the houses and queued up again. He said we had to pay extra to go in a second time! Plus, everything else within the lot (ax throwing, escape rooms) is extra money to try, so keep that in mind when purchasing a ticket. Parking is also tough since it's all street parking, so also expect to walk a bit to get to the entrance. Okay, this is the like 8th time to House of Torment. Halloween, Krampus and Love Bites every year and it's always a blast. This year, they had a band playing on stage and there seemed to be more vendors with food and drink. It was inundated with 9-12th graders most very cool and well behaved. One girl was ripping my shirt while we were walking through and I turned and asked her to stop and she said, "N word! What did you just say to me"? Had a great experience on Halloween with a group of friends! We arrived close to opening time and parked far down the street. The wait outside the entrance was maybe 45 minutes long, but there was barely any wait inside the corrals before each haunted house. For the ticket price you get 3 unique haunted house experiences that are so well story-lined and designed! Haunt 2 was especially incredible this year with moving features and even a secret bar inside (accessible only by special ticket). The Nocturne Sancturn bar was a fun and unique experience that really added to the immersion of the overall story of the haunt. They don't have a full service bar and you can't stay for too long, but it's a fun little surprise to be pulled into a secret room and given a pretty good/strong shot while your adrenaline is racing from the scares haha! As someone with a background in designing themed experiences, House of Torment always takes the cake for most immersive, well designed and well constructed haunted house. They don't just rely on jump scares and screams to make you feel scared. Next time you go through, try to pay attention to all the little Easter eggs and details! read more

Went on a Thursday to attempt to avoid the weekend crowds... while we didn't have to wait in lines for an extended period of time, we did have to hunt for a parking spot. This year's location offered no dedicated parking lot. Although, if all those closed surrounding businesses were smart, they would've contracted with House of torment for use of their vacant parking lots. Definitely a missed opportunity. Getting past the parking issue, the haunted houses were awesome. The first one was my favorite. As there are no pictures allowed, you'll have to see for yourself. But you won't regret. We got tickets for 9pm and when we got there they wouldn't let us into any of the house because they apparently close at 9pm, but the website lets you get tickets until 9:45 pm and says it closes at 10pm. Disappointing and Racist Experience I am genuinely disappointed with our visit to House of Torment. My family and I felt completely disrespected and discriminated against by the staff outside the attraction. Despite being right there, the staff members consistently bypassed our group and instead chose to engage with the groups both in front of and behind us, who happened to be non-Black. It felt like we were invisible, or worse, purposely ignored. I am appalled that we paid to feel this kind of discrimination, and it's heartbreaking that my children had to experience it. It was supposed to be a fun night, but this left a lasting, painful impression on us. The only part of the evening they keep talking about is how uncomfortable they felt. I sincerely hope the management takes action to address these issues so no one else has to go through this. read more

I visited House of Torment expecting to be scared in a fun, thrilling way, but what I experienced went far beyond that. I was visibly terrified and crying, and instead of backing off, the actors seemed to single me out and focus their attention only on me. They got right up in my face repeatedly while I was clearly in distress, and it felt more like harassment than entertainment. I understand that haunted houses are designed to scare, but there should always be a line between a good scare and emotional cruelty. The fact that staff continued to target me while I was bawling my eyes out was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. What was meant to be a night of Halloween fun turned into one of the most upsetting experiences I've had. I left feeling shaken, humiliated, and honestly angry. Guests should feel safe, even in a haunted house. First time coming here and based on reviews we did the fast pass and went on a Friday at 730p. First thing is parking is difficult. I wasn't sure if you could park in the private business area as there are tow signs everywhere so luckily I got street parking. Secondly what is the point of a metal detector when the two people sitting at the table are watching videos on their phones with earbuds in and never once looked up. First house was the best, lots of cool effects and jump scares, the least scary was the hospital, would've preferred clowns or something different or creepy. Lots of photo ops and refreshments and additional add ons to the experience available. PLEASE READ I MIGHT SAVE YOU MONEY‼‼ This was an absolute trash experience!!! It was a complete waste of money and I wish I never bought tickets to this. The fact that they have scariest haunted house in America on their site is completely LAUGHABLE!!! I know my review may not stop a lot of you from going but I really with it did. If you have gone and you think this is scary you are a pansy!! My 6, 9, and 11 year old GIRLS would have laughed at this. You basically just walk through a bunch of fog and weave through a maze where there are HARDLY any actors waiting to scare you and when they do they barely even try. I paid $91 for my husband and I to do this the least they could have done was tried. Some of them just stood where they were or walked around. I know they aren't suppose to touch you but geez at least put out some real effort. Now, the set up--The first haunted house was barely even decorated it was a maze with fog that's all I can say with maybe two actors inside. The second was almost the same with maybe slightly more decorations and animatronics and one or two more actors. The third was the best decorated but still cheap and the animatronic looked like crap. Some of them barely moved and looked like they needed a good coat of WD-40. I'm taking a wild guess here and saying they recycle the same animatronics every year and just remaining what the theme is each year and changing the layout. Which I find baffling since they are easily brining in over $1 mill each year iff tickets purchased not even counting all the extra stuff guest are buying like the mini escape room or ax throwing. They have enough budget to design a SICK haunted house but they are so lazy and the consumers are so STUPID (myself included) to buy into this garbage they are advertising. Never again and I hope I save someone some money by this review. This place is the worst. There was no structure at all. The lady in the front was just letting people through the security detectors but checking anything. This is how active shootings occur. It was nice to try this place out and be back in a haunted house! It was very crowded but I guess everyone is trying to have a decent time. The waiting time for each haunted house wasn't too bad. I did like that one of the houses timed each group so we didn't run into the group before us--but the other two didn't do that. So for those it was just us in a line walking through the house with a bunch of other people. It wasn't exactly scary to me but the effects were cool. There were only like 2 haunted actors outside walking around but you could take pictures with them. It was pretty okay, I threw in an extra star because we made the best of it I by complete chance saw the covid test/ vaccine card requirement on their Instagram. What a waste of money. It doesn't matter which ticket you buy (general admission, fast pass, or skip the line) you're just going to go through all 3 houses in a conga line with everyone else. Takes maybe 3-5 minutes per house. It may have been scarier if they allowed TIME in between each group, allow the people inside to reset, etc. BUT, I understand that it's so freaking packed, that they're just shoving people in to get through them all. This has been a yearly tradition for my wife and I since they started in the Highland Mall parking lot building way back when. Every year they get better. This year, 2024, was the first year it didn't get better. We always buy the highest level VIP pass. Several things we went to had technical difficulties and we had to go back. This was the first year they didn't really add much and even had a reduced number of "actors". Also I was impressed before that it was air conditioned cool inside the buildings, but this year it seems they are trying to save money and it was extremely hot inside every building, except the building the staff are in. Also this year they did not stagger people going into the buildings, which was a serious disappointment! It was like a line of cattle going through. You saw people in front of you and behind you. You saw exactly where actors jumped out and most didn't have time to reset by the time you walked by. They seriously need to improve the A/C and staggering the people into the buildings. Other than that it was an okay year. I just hope they improve. This was one year I would give only 1 or 2 stars as a rating, but I have been a customer from the start so I am giving an overall rating and hope they improve next year. read more

We went on a Monday evening, where two of the three lines were short. All three themes of the houses were unique and had cool effects. My favorite was the "Book of Lost Souls" - each room had a different feel for it and there were multiple jump scares. We stood in line for "They Returned" for a minimum of 45 minutes with general admission tickets. Unfortunately, there were barely any actors in that house as we went through it. Time went by faster than the other two houses and by the time we finished, it was 9:55 pm (it closes at 10 pm). It seemed as though a lot of the actors had finished their shift., which was very disappointing after we waited so long for the main house and was the one we were excited for the most. Apart from the last house, I had a good experience at House of Torment and would recommend it for someone looking for a fun Halloween activity! read more

It was really terrific! I went with my group on a Monday to avoid crowds and we did all of the mazes in an hour. My compliments to the actors working this night. They were always on and tried to interact with us a lot. I've been to many haunted maze attractions and this is among the best for the length and production quality of the mazes. I was in town for ACL with friends and we did this on Saturday evening. It did NOT disappoint! The makeup, wardrobe and themes of the haunted houses ranged from creep to gory to scary. HIGHLY recommend getting the VIP ticket - the longest we waited to enter a haunted house was maybe 5 minutes; whereas with the general admission ticket the lines were very long with at least an hour wait AND it comes with preferred parking, so you're not circling to look for parking. Also, the staff was super nice and huge shout out to Sherry for her kindness and for giving our a group a behind the scenes look on our way out to give us a glimpse of how everything is put together. This was my first time coming to House of Torment and I've always heard stories about this place. I was expecting to be shook!! Instead I was just left underwhelmed and found myself laughing around this House of "Attempt". There are 3 levels to House of "Regret". Allegedly they get scarier each house you go to starting from 1. I did not think that was the case at all. They all just flatlined.. if anything got worse. In each house there were too many empty rooms with opportunities for scares. Almost like we were in a scary museum just looking at art. There were more of the animotronics than actual people in my opinion. Starting from 1 it was a zombie walkthrough, well they were not really zombies more like people just standing around grunting. This one seemed quick and dull. The second house was dimension of darkness or something like that. Starting out in this house they take a photo of your group for you to buy after you finish walking through to purchase at the store. Now this was a dissapointment because we decided to buy the picture, but felt robbed after we saw the print. On the computer it looked great then seeing the print the quality seemed to look worse. They offer a HD digital copy for an upcharge. This is clearly how they get the money. Back to the haunt, in this one the best part was walking the bridge inside the spinning tunnel. The finale was themed clowns. They advertise this scary pennywise all over the internet and website making it seem like he will make an appereance at the end or so I thought. Again not many people in this haunt. The rooms were great and the props, but it just wasn't scary. When we got to the end I thought "here he comes!". Welp. He never came, just some cheap clown that failed to do a scare. There was no pennywise or even someone with a chainsaw. They need more actors in the haunt or better scarers at least. It's now built inside the mall itself (not just in the parking lot anymore) and 3 houses. We paid $5 extra for a mini escape room and that was fun too & HARD! I was afraid it was going to be lame but was wrong. Only thing I didn't expect was for it all to be high schooler. And it was portapotties but so clean and not stinky at all! Bless up. Don't waist your money... Unorganized and very few people working the haunted houses you basically just walk through in large groups and look at the decorations. Maybe saw three humans inside working. Couldn't even claim out group picture. The code did not work. Worst haunted house ever: Dont get me started on the speed pass that they don't tell you that there is another pass called skip the line that you need to actually have. You have to figure that out after the first attraction. Then they make you wait in line again for that. We went for the Christmas haunt, Krampus. Totally sucked and total rip off. They only had the one haunted house and it was way too light and not at all scary. We paid $10 extra to go to the secret bar and we got one tiny shot of vodka and some juice watered down. On top of that no one knew where the bar was and had to ask like 5 different people. None of the employees had any idea what was going on. The only reason it gets 2 stars is because the selfie house was cool, but that's also another $10 per person. read more

House of Torment was fun, spooky, and really creative. This year it seems that they may be under staffed as there was many opportunities for dressed up people in the houses that weren't there. What is great is they have 3 houses that you get to tour with your ticket. The lines were easily manageable on a Friday night, and it goes fast. They have a small gift shop, a food vendor, and a dj for you to manage your time with between haunted houses. Go get in the Halloween mood and get spooked! Don't forget your Vax card! read more

Ok before I give this review, you need to know a few things. I knew before going that the monsters can't touch me. Once you know that, honestly it is not scary. Someone gets in my face I will either stare you down or laugh at you. Which I did quite a bit of laughing while in the haunted houses. This was the second day opening for the Halloween season of 2017. The lines were sorta long and got into line 15 mins after they open. There was no rhyme or reason how long the line would take. They did have the monsters who would do some entertaining in line to make the time go by. I just stared them down and they left me alone to bother some scared teen girl or boy. My husband and I only did 2 of the 3 houses, which note you have to do them in order for some reason. The first house was deranged and the second was a clown house. The first house had tons of strobe lights which if you didn't have epilepsy before going in, you might afterwards. I laughed pretty much the entire time I was in the house and not scary at all. I would recognize unfortunately anyone who was going to pop out and scare me since I had been the first person. The second house was the clown house. We had caught up to the people in front of us and ended up in a room with a clown. The clown started to laugh crazy so I started to laugh crazy and we had a one off of who was crazier. I think maybe I won? I will note towards the end of this house, some stupid fog spray was sprayed at us and my husband and I couldn't breathe very well. Not cool! Please note, they have beer before you get into line and I would highly recommend. They also serve food here which is nice since you will be there for at least a few hours. They have a few porta potties near the front as well. Overall, maybe I am too much of a realist or a badass for haunted houses? I purchased tickets and searched their website. All I found was that masks were highly recommended. Nowhere when buying tickets, on their vouchers, or on the waiver do they disclose that they require a negative covid test or proof of vax. It's very deceitful the way it is handled and they do not give refunds if you don't have proof on your person. They will kick you out without proof. read more
